This past week I took my truck to Tire Doc on the Island because there was a terrible vibration in the front end. They correctly diagnosed the problem as broken belts in a front tire, made the repairs and aligned the front end in a timely manner. They're courtesy and professionalism was exceptional. Over priced ripoff is their specialty. Very condescending office personnel , couldn't get out of there fast enough . Never going back.

I had problems with my engine light going on and then off. Car Doc diagnosed that it was a problem with the turbo and they offered a couple ways to go with that fix. I agreed that acceleration wasn't what it should be and decided I would go with what they recommended. Once the turbo was removed they showed me a crack on the inside wall of the turbo. I haven't had good luck. They are busy and both times a minor issue was fixed, but later other issues were found, requiring more work after both times. When discussing, they don't listen too good and keep repeating what they did, even though problem not resolved. Both times we asked about whatdid mechanic think about our concerns and was told didn't have time to discuss with him. Each time charged for diagnostics, yet never reported any other problems. However, when asked they said they only diagnosed and confirmed what the initial problem (concern) was and didn't diagnose anything else. . Seems not right. And they are not cheap by any means. We went there with 2 different cars over 6 month period because dealer costs were high (We are all for using local businesses anyway). They ended up being higher. Beware. I'm sure they do simple work ok. It wasn't an easy experience is the best way to explain it. read more

I called to make an appointment for an oil change since I was driving it back home. I was told they open at 8 so bring it in and it will be worked on around 10. I dropped it off at 9:30 and was told they won't be working on it until the afternoon. I heard back after 2:20 and it was ready at 2:40. The price for the oil change was as expected. The assessment inspection on the under carriage was deemed a safety issue that should be taken care of right away and the emphasis was on safety. However, the cost on the repair of $1,400.00 gave me concern as I just drove the vehicle for 400 miles and didn't detect a major issue. In my experience when this happens is to get a second opinion. I took it to my friend a master mechanic and business owner back home and after further testing the car, the issue was not as serious and the repair not as costly. Always get a second opinion from a trusted mechanic and don't get pressured. read more

I brought my car in since Firestone was too busy to take me in. I went down the street and saw Car Doc. I had a leak in the front right tire. The very kind friendly man in the office told me to drop it off in the morning and he'd see how it looks. An hour after I left the car, I got a all telling me that I needed 4 new tires, but of much more concern, it was very dangerous for me driving around since I needed four new bushings. They had worn away and very easily the problem could cause the front wheels to go sideways. He had me go out and look at them with him, like I know what I'm looking at. They didn't have the part but would have it for me in 2 days. I had to leave for Tampa in the morning. The fellow continued with the con and told me I might not make it. All this for a leaky tire. I made an appointment with a garage in Oldsmar for Thursday afternoon. What a surprise, after a an hour or so I got a call telling me to pick up the car, it was fine. I went into Awesome Auto looking to have the job done, but instead, this honest man told me the truth. I wouldn't bring a skateboard to get fixed at Car Doc. read more

WARNING: DO NOT BRING YOUR VEHICLE HERE!!! We brought our car in for a simple oil change, but it turned into so much more than that. They BROKE a piece that couldn't be replaced that same day, so my car was stuck there for a few days before they could make it "drivable." They later fixed it (YES, they charged EXTRA-- $200+ more-- although it was their mistake)... but wait.. we arrive to pick up the vehicle, but it wouldn't turn over... THE BATTERY WAS DEAD. So, the manager comes out, opens the hood AND we see that the cap for the engine coolant was OFF and laying on the engine. THEY FORGOT TO PUT IT BACK ON?? Talk about a serious risk for us to be driving with the cap off, considering we would have never looked under the hood in the first place because these so called "professionals" should be doing their job right.. To make it even better, they weren't even apologetic about the whole situation. I wouldn't even take a car here even if the service was free. read more

The staff is very friendly and accommodating. I needed my headlights changed in my 2011 Cadillac, unfortunately the front bumper has to come off . They provided the service as agreed at a much more reasonable price than the local dealer. I like doing business with local folks and this experience was a real plus. Jeff, the magician mechanic at Car Doc, literally brought my car back to life. My '94 Miata now purrs like a kitten, and the AC blasts out COLD AIR for the first time in years! Toni (I don't know what her job title is-office manager? jack of all trades?) was so thorough, personable and professional. Mike, the owner, came out and chatted with me for a while. I thought that was a very nice touch. It was delightful to have such a good experience. They are all excellent representatives for the town of Venice.
