Terrible and dishonest customer service ( from other reviews it seems like they do not honor their appointments at all so im not the only person) I cannot believe that after going to this location for the past 5 years and they decided to treat me so poorly. I booked an appointment for 1 pm for friday and i notified in advance that i will be using a coupon for oil change that i received for their location on Ashland. I arrived at 12:30 and the gentleman at the counter told me that there are a lot of cars ahead of me. and im like sure i can wait. Then the gentleman looked at the coupon and right after that made all a whole list of excuses. said the best he can do is 59 dollars for an oil change. I had to wait on their counter for 25 minutes while he said he was going to figure 1: We don't do basic oil changes 2: we are having issues with these coupons 3: we the best we can do is 59 dollars 4: we only carry synthetic 5: talks to his manager for 20 minutes on the phone so they can see if they can honor the coupon My best guess is that they wanted to not do oil changes and get rid of me. you don't have to be this dishonest. They could have justcalled and cancelled the appointment beforehand. that would have saved me a trip to your location. Customer service excellent, I made a few calls and got nice people each time I called. Rob was my main contact and he answered my questions, gave me a heads up about timing given it was New Years Eve and Day by the time I picked it up. I've been taking my car here for 15 years for everything from oil changes to tires to brakes to "what is that squeaking sound?" Most recently, Michael diagnosed a squeaky brake as uneven brake rotor wear that while a little annoying was perfectly safe. This saved me the several hundred dollars for rotors and pads that other shops in the city would have recommended and then happily charged me for the unnecessary brake parts. Do not go here! I just waited patiently in line to do an emissions test for the first time. It's a small lot crammed with cars. When I was next in line I moved forward and off to the side to get out of the way of a car leaving. Before I could move back the van behind me moved into the front of the line and cut me off and cut in line. Then a guy, who I found out is named Lenisi (Lenny) came out and told me I need to drive back around and go to the end of the line again. When I tried explaining that I was trying to be nice and move out of the way for a car he still said I had to go back to the end of the line. I said "Are you kidding me?!" There were areadly two cars waiting so I pull aside the second car. The someone from CarX said get to the back of the line. I said I pulled right after this 2 other cars. I the meantime others pulled begined the parked car so I did the same. The Car X rep came over to my car and told me that he will fuse to test my car!!!! DO NOT take your car to this Car-X. Unsafe work, no communication, and flat-out incompetence. Note: 0 response from their corporate owner, Monro. They will comment with their phone number and ask me to call, it's meaningless. I came in for a routine tire replacement and left with a TPMS error, two tires mounted backwards, and a bill I was never told about. A few days after the install, one of my tire pressure sensors stopped reading. I called and was told to bring the car back -- no mention of cost. After four hours, they tried to charge me $240 for work I never approved. This was for an issue that clearly started immediately after their tire job. When I pushed back, they dropped the charge -- but the damage was done. Then it got worse: the issue still wasn't fixed, another tire was now reading 0 PSI, and I was told they had removed the wrong tire entirely. Oh -- and both right-side tires? Installed inside out. Directional tires, installed backwards. That's not just sloppy -- it's flat-out unsafe. The manager admitted their team screwed up and promised to fix everything for free. That's the bare minimum. But between the attempted upcharge, the mounting mistakes, the incorrect diagnostics, and the wasted time, this place proved they have no quality control and no business touching anyone's vehicle. BEWARE. Never go to this mechanic! My friend was visiting from out of town and her catalytic converter was stolen. I sent her to CarX on Ashland Ave because we have had good service there in the past. Not this time. First they promised the car in 3 hours but it actually took 24 hours. They quoted a price which she reported to her insurance company but when she arrived to pick up the car, they wanted $250 more. She refused to pay, so Joe told her to get out of his store and "f**k you". But the worst is that on her 7 hour drive home the engine light went on and the next morning the converter came detached because they epoxied the thing to the car instead of soddering it. Her mechanic was so appalled by the work that he called CarX here in Chg. They hung up on him. It will cost her $500 now to repair the damage and the insurance company will not pay for it. read more

i don't know about the rest of their services, but trying to get an emissions test has been a nightmare. the first time i tried to get it done, it was saturday around 2 pm. i walk into the lobby, there was one guy behind the counter, one guy standing next to the counter, and someone else sitting in one of the chairs. i stood there for a few minutes before the guy behind the counter asked what i needed. i told him an emissions test and he said they were done for the day, that they only go till 1 pm. okay, fair. i didn't know the times because they weren't posted anywhere online. i asked when they do it, and he told me m-f between 8 am and 6 pm. okay cool, and i left. monday comes, and as soon as i get off work, i head right over there. got there shortly before 5 pm, and park in a spot. there was someone double parked because the lot was full. as i was walking up to the lobby, the woman with the double parked car was walking out of the lobby. one of the service techs walked up to her and asked if it was her car, and she said yes. he asked what she was there for and she said emissions, to which he replied, "oh, we're done for today." i turn to him and say that i was told they did it till 6 pm. he just said they were done. the lady seemed shocked at that as well, which is weird, because she came out of the lobby without knowing that they were done for the day. so either she wasn't told that, or wasn't helped while she was in there. before we both left, i asked when they start, and he said 8 am. okay, fine, i'll come back again. thursday (today) was our next available day, and my wife had time so she went right at 8 am. when she got there and walked in, the guy behind the counter asked what she needed and she said emission and put the card on the counter. he then told her they don't start till 9 am. now, my wife admits that she maybe got a little hot, but she tells him that's not what we were told. she said that he was very short with her and said again they start at 9 am. there was a little back and forth, and at one point he told her he doesn't have time for this and that he had other customers to attend to, but there was no one else in the lobby. at that point, she told him to "eff off" and he then blew up at her, cursing at her, telling her to never come back and that we're banned. as my wife was walking out, she took a picture of the emission hours sign on the door which clearly states that the hours were indeed between 8 am - 6 pm. at that point, he gets more angry at her for taking a picture in the lobby (of just the sign with the hours) and then proceeds to pull out his phone and starts recording her saying "oh you want to take pictures? fine, here's what a curser looks like." really unprofessional and kind of creepy. at this point, i don't care if we're banned there. based on these experiences alone, i would never go there, nor would i ever recommend anyone to use this location. if you read other reviews, you'll see that this isn't an isolated incident, especially when it comes to their attitudes towards women. we've filed a complaint with the state about its inaccurate emissions hours and behavior. read more

Wish I could leave zero reviews. The level of disrespect and hostility I was shown was beyond unprofessional. I am a very outgoing, friendly person, and I am incredibly respectful to anyone in the service industry, and the way I was treated is inexcusable. It was unprovoked, unexplainable, and honestly I think the front desk guy just needs to find a new job in a new industry that isn't customer facing, or get intensive therapy to address his anger issues. Read ALL the negative reviews before deciding to go here. This is an absolute pattern of behavior. I saw one positive review as the most recent review on google (which has a broken review algorithm, and negative reviews get buried at the bottom unless you filter by most recent). Many people (especially women) complain about similar issues related to being disrespected and how poorly they were treated. It's clear that this is just a pattern of negative behavior that the owner thinks is acceptable as it has been persisting for some time. I highly recommend going to Cassidy Tire that is nearby instead. They will treat you with 1000x more respect and actually do an amazing job servicing your car. This Car-X location confirmed over the phone that they perform emissions tests without appointments. This was my first time going to Car-X so I pulled into the lot and got out of my car to talk with the front desk. The manager, Joe Stanek, was already outside and unfortunately immediately hostile when I approached him to ask about services. With another customer present (who entered the lot the same way I did) he repeatedly stated that I disobeyed his sign saying, "Look what you f*cking did. Get out of here. We aren't f*cking servicing your car". I calmly followed him inside to understand why I was being denied service and the profanity laced rant continued. I advised Joe that I would be leaving a review after this experience to which he responded by following me to my car and taking photos of my wife and me as we were trying to pull out of the lot. I later realized that he was referring the word "stop" spray painted on the ground which I unfortunately didn't see since he was leaning over it. Due to the aggressive behavior and discovering similar complaints about this manager specifically from other customers, I've filed a police report. I cannot recommend this location with the current management. The unprovoked hostility and intimidation tactics have no place in customer service. read more

Despite all the negative reviews about emission testing on here, my experience was actually pretty positive. I called beforehand to make sure they had room for me. I went at about 4:30 on a Tuesday. The test itself only took like 2 minutes. Also, as I was backing out I heard the guy say something about not liking Cardi B because "she's too..." and I was like wait for it... "she's a whore." Lol of course. Mostly just funny because like, to be expected. Comes with the territory. But really took me out. So I would recommend going there but just make sure you're not playing Cardi B when you pull up because they might fail your emission test. I experienced very poor customer service when I arrived at an appointment 4/3 11am to have my tires and brakes inspected. Arriving a bit early and after waiting approx 15 minutes and past the appointment time, I was angrily told to sit and wait. Not all good deals are worth it. I saw a groupon for an oil change that was too good to pass up. Well...I should have. I purchased my groupon and called to book an appt. ( so I thought). I spoke to someone who was able to get me a 9:30 am slot the next day. Here is where things get interesting. I arrived around 10 min early and came across a silver haired monster of a manager. He stated he didn't have me in the system and someone else was scheduled at the time. He was said you don't have an appt. So I show him the email. He said that's an appointment request and I should "read my emails". Granted I missed that. However it unwanted energy and attitude. I said your energy is bad. An absolutely miserable place. I have been twice now and the people working at the counter are incredibly rude and unhelpful from the moment you step in the store. I consider myself friendly and patient and want to always give people the benefit of the doubt, but I watched the same worker be unkind to 3 people in a row while I was waiting in the lobby for my car. We all had greeted them politely and asked genuine questions about the process of repairs, emissions test, where to park in the lot for service etc. and he was condescending and wouldn't give clear answers. At one point he told a woman who had come for emissions testing that he was refusing to take any more cars because one person outside wasn't "lined up in line correctly" although he never told them that or explained what he meant. I didn't see anyone actually working in the shop while I was there, but there were about 4 cars in line for emissions testing which never were helped in the hour I was there and two men behind the counter eating candy and playing on their phones. In the end they couldn't even offer the service I was requesting but it took an hour to find that out while they were just sitting around. I would recommend you find anywhere else to take your car. There's even another Car-X like 4 blocks away on Ashland with such helpful and quality service. read more

The WORST experience I have ever had at a car shop. If I could give 0 stars I would. As a woman, I shouldn't ever be scared to get something simple done for my car. I simply went in for a wheel alignment, I was told that my brakes needed to be serviced and I told the manager Joseph Stanek "No, I am okay thanks." He walked away and I noticed it was taking longer than an hour for my wheel alignment so I asked how much longer just for him to tell me that I said yes to the brake flush???? I repeated again that I did not want the brake flush only the wheel alignment. He immediately showed me hostility and attitude when I clearly stated that I did not want the service on my brakes as my dad had plans to service that at home. Joseph Stanek then stated rudely that he wasn't going to argue with me and to never bring my car there again because they won't service me! I WAS NOT PLANNING TO EVER COME BACK WITH THE WAY I WAS TREATED!! Not to mention, the only thing that I came in for was a wheel alignment AND MY WHEEL IS STILL NOT ALIGNED. The whole time I was polite and clear with what I wanted and not wanted but instead I was put in a position where I felt I was going to get scammed as I was a woman alone at a car shop. I should not have to feel scared that something was done to my car with malicious intent! I have been going to this Car X location happily for 24 years, and aside from one rocky experience about 10 years ago with a horrible manager (who was thankfully there a very short time), I have trusted the business. The mechanics here are excellent. But this morning I had one of the top 3 most unpleasant and disrespectful customer service experiences of my life. The "manager" here (who has now been here a couple years I believe), was absolutely appalling in how he addressed me and another woman who was waiting. He is ill-tempered, unprofessional, and rude and clearly should not be working with other humans. I will not be back. Update** Everything this location did to my car not only could have taken my life, but cost me another $1000 to get fixed, on top of the $1600 they took from me to not fix anything in my car** My fiancé brought our car to Car-X because we could feel something was off. Turned out we needed a new Catalytic converter, but unfortunately, we got much more than we asked for. We do not drive the car often. A week and a half after it was "fixed" I was on the highway in very slow traffic in the left lane. When this traffic became GO my car could not go over 20 mph on a 65mph highway. This was extremely dangerous to say the least, I was terrified. When I was finally able to get off of the highway, my car couldn't reach above 10 mph and it reeked of exhaust. I could not accelerate. I brought the car to my hometown mechanic and he immediately sent me extremely troubling pictures. As he has been my family's go-to for many years, I trust him. But, don't take my word for it. the pictures can actually tell the story. When Car-X replaced the converter, they broke 2 studs, in fact they snapped both of them. One of these snaps poked a hole in the manifold. This caused the manifold to leak very badly. Not only did this make the car not-drivable, now exhaust was leaking into my car. When exhaust leaks into the passenger compartment, this is carbon monoxide leaking into the car. Many symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include dizziness, headache, nausea, sleepiness, confusion and even unconsciousness. Carbon monoxide poisoning can also be fatal. They left the broken piece inside, which is really difficult to remove (a stud doesn't snap, and it was a clean break clearly done with a tool). This can happen, but we should never ever have been sent home with the car in this state. Especially when the damage you caused could have caused FATAL damage in MULTIPLE ways. As you can see in the image, there is an empty hole. The stud on the other side, where there was not a leak, had also been broken off. Additionally, the nuts were not tight anywhere where they should have been. I'm wondering what type of quality assurance occurs, never-mind, clearly none. Additionally, they "replaced" my front right caliper. When my mechanic took it out, the pads and rotors were heated so badly, it burnt. You see white, and ASH. The rotor was heated so badly, it changed from silver to blue. I could have had my nephews or niece in the car, my dog, my fiancé. I am glad I was alone. I am glad we weren't on our way to the wedding we have hours away next week. You should be so ashamed and disgusted you let someone drive off your lot with a car in that shape. Do not bring your car here. This Car-X has a "if we broke it, we will fix it within a year!" policy. No thanks. The stars aligned and it couldn't have been a better experience. I needed new tires. Called a competitor (Just Tires) whose advertised price was $140 for each tire, when purchased as a set. After all the fees, taxes, etc., it was over $800. One quick google search, called Car-X, and it was $611 including all fees, for a higher rated tire. Wait...it gets better. This was a Saturday morning. I called them around 10:30, in the shop at 11:15 and done by 1:00...... on a Saturday with no appointment. Wait, it gets better. The manager called me about a "should repair" if I drive a lot of miles, but not critical or unsafe. We agreed to hold off till this fall. Great service, easy in and out, no pressure. Bought tires from TireRack and chose this location for installation. Called to schedule an appointment for right at opening at 7:30am. I arrived early but the workers didn't show up until 7:32am (no big deal). I gave time for them to get settled. When I entered, someone was already on speakerphone calmly explaining that their starter still was having problems. I let the worker finish the call before I introduce myself. The worker can't find me on the schedule and suggests I leave the car so they can do the work when they have free time. I decline and take my tires and leave. They got me in same day for both and took the time to explain what was going on. As someone who relies on experts for car advice, I never felt like they were trying to exaggerate issues or find something that wasn't there. i wanted to avoid this but I can't anymore. last year I took my cars here for service and breaks. Well service wasn't done in one, even after it was paid for. Then turns out after 3 months of having my car for breaks. The breaks never got changed. several attempts to make it right with two locations and the district manager. He was rude, made promises he didn't keep and I'm very dosap in the lack of customer service at that level. I had to have my card company do a charge back for almost $3,000 in services paid for and not completed. This is very disappointing from a manager at this level. I originally worked with Vince at Car Advise who was very helpful in finding a car shop that could perform all my services. CarAdvise recommended CarX I dropped off my car at 8:45am. I asked the person who checked me in (Joe) if everything was able to be performed, particularly the transmission flush and refill. Joe assured me it's not a problem everything could be done. About an hour or so later Joe called and told me my front brakes need to be replaced. That my new total would be $1100 with everything included, even the transmission flush. I said go ahead I'm ok with that pricing, considering my initial total was $849 front brake replacement for additional $170 was fine. However when car advise sent me the work to approve, the transmission flush was cancelled by the shop. I called Car Advise because I was beginning to suspect something was wrong. The Car Advise reps that spoke to the mechanic at Car X even mentioned the guy seemed very upset. I cancelled all service except for an oil change, air filter change, and a coolant flush. After I spoke to the Car Advise staff, I called a local car dealer that would complete the work for a reasonable rate if I got the car into the shop by 4:30pm, they would complete work by Saturday afternoon. I immediately called Car X to see when the car would be ready. Joe at Car X told me 3-4 hours. He was very upset and had a rude tone with me, as if he wasn't going to help whatsoever. I asked him if he hadn't started work to just cancel the order and I didn't feel comfortable with someone so irate working on my car. I explained my point of view and reminded him he told me he could do the transmission no problem. Immediately after we got off the phone, I received a text message from Car Advise telling me the car was ready for pick up. Because of the interaction I just had with the mechanic (Joe) I wanted to make sure that was the case. A Car Advise rep called that shop and described Joe as "spicy". 20 minutes after I got off the phone with Car Advise, Joe from CarX called to tell me the car was ready. They replaced a service sticker on my car saying that service is due by 6/16/2023 or @ 80144 miles which is the day I brought my car to the shop and my current milage. Clearly this disgruntled mechanic did not perform any services on my car. Joe made me sign a waiver before giving me my keys regarding a car inspection and if there are any issues the shop has no liability. After this entire ordeal I've been advised by the car dealership I brought my car to that no oil change was done (still had old oil filter), no air filter was replaced (car had old dirty VW air filter), and no coolant flush had been done. Even if the oil change was done, the invoice had the wrong oil type that isn't compatible with my car! Stay away from this sketchy place! I ended up spending over $1,200 at the car dealership to have everything corrected. read more
