$655.82!! THIS IS HOW MUCH IT COST FOR A REGULAR OIL CHANGE!!! I KNOW THAT THIS IS LONG, BUT PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU BRING YOUR CAR, CAR-X! YOU'LL BE GLAD YOU READ THIS I PROMISE!!! BETWEEN THE FEMALE MANAGER AND THE DISTRICT MANAGER, JEFF C., THEY TREAT THEIR CUSTOMERS LIKE TRASH... WITH COMPLETE DISREGARD!! I only put five stars so more people would see this. If I could give it no stars I would. I had an extremely disappointing experience with the CAR-X location in Overland, Missouri. The female manager is not the rudest person I think I've talked to this year. She looked at me in my face and told me a lie, and then refused to fix the problem. I called the district manager Jeff Colburn as suggested. He was just as rude. Told me he would give me a call back so he could talk to her about the situation and never called me and both of them have avoided all of my calls and will not call me back so I have no choice but to fix my car! I specifically requested Mobil 1 High Mileage oil and a Mobil 1 oil filter. Instead, they initially installed the wrong oil and the wrong filter. After I brought this to their attention, I was told they had corrected the mistake and replaced both with the products I originally requested (BTW IT WAS A DIFFERENCE OF ABOUT $94)! $110 for regular oil change plus $94 more for Mobil 1 SYNTHETIC HIGH MILEAGE and Mobil 1 FILTER! So now we're at $204! I stopped to get gas at Circle K and then drove straight home when I left. I parked in the garage and went inside. The next morning I went to leave and smelled coolant. So I backed out of the garage and lo and behold there is coolant all over the floor of my garage where my car sat. They had topped off the fluids as well so I checked my vehicle myself and discovered the Mobil 1 oil filter had not been replaced as I was told. On top of that, my engine was approximately one quart low on oil after the service, which is unacceptable. And honestly, I don't believe that they changed the oil on either. They charge me for what I asked for, but they just put in their house oil and filter. I went back to CAR-X (because of the leak until it's fixed I can't drive it safely so I only went to CAR-X to get an oil change. It was late so I went home and then drove it straight back there in the morning) where they refused to fix it, saying it wasn't their responsibility. Yet, it wasn't listed on the inspection report. There was no coolant leak before I brought my car in, and nothing about a leak was documented on my inspection report or service notes. If a coolant leak had existed beforehand, I would expect it to have been noted during the inspection (considering they write down anything faulty before doing the oil change to make sure they don't get sued for things they didn't do). She (the manager) told me that they didn't go anywhere near where they could've caused damage to cause the coolant system, which was an out right lie because it was leaking right near the oil filter, just a little bit over towards the passenger side. The car-x guy came in and said that it was my thermostat which was another flat out lie. Not only it was a brand new when I took it to Big G auto (in Bridgeton) I gave him five stars and I highly recommend you look into taking your car to this service shop and not CAR-X. The mechanic told me that the cooling outlet housing was cracked And by the looks of it, he felt it seemed intentional. So now another $451.82 later my car no longer has a coolant leak (Car-X said it was the thermostat tho remember)?!?! Based on my experience, I have serious concerns about the quality of the work performed and the accuracy of what I was told. I trusted this shop to properly service my vehicle, and unfortunately, I left with more problems than when I arrived. I cannot recommend this location based on my experience. NEVER GO BACK OR RECOMMEND TO ANYONE. Poor service from the get go. Scheduled safety and emissions appointment a head of time - showed up early with one person in front of me. They left and I waited an additional 20 minutes until I walked back into the office and saw all of them talking - then they took my car back. They had the wrong name and vehicle on my receipt. Failed safety stating I needed new back brakes and pads, new front sway bar and front axle shaft, totaling $1372. I took the car somewhere else and didn't need any of this work to pass the safety testing. read more

Oof! Where do I beguine. I call in asking if they can do a couple services for me 2-3 days in advance. They are a full service mechanic and they do it all!!! Great, I need to have my tires abs breaks inspected, oil change, mirror replaced, diesel filter (particulate), and the windshield. He said no probalem see you Thursday just drop you car off at 8 am it will be ready by end of the day. Thursday's, I get there they are not sure if they can do the mirror, and they haven't really contacted anyone to do the windshield. But we are hopeful. Get a call around noon, about three hours later, they didn't say anything about my breaks, so like std testing no news is good news right?! Lol we Hope! But they can't really do the windshield today, they can reschedule it for 400++$. Woah, I called one other person and they were able to do it for 180!$ that is a huge amount I saved by not trusting this company. He continued to say that I had a recall on my filter, and to call the dealership to have it done. The dealership is two weeks backed up, it's a filter I'm paying to have it changed... or so I thought. My list of great news didn't stop there he said they really didn't want to do my mirror have the dealership do it when they change my filter. Honestly this is feeling like a bait and hook at this part of the call. He tells me they can do all of these services but does none of them except what makes the shop the highest profit margins. So his voice lifts, he gets on to what he can do for me, an oil change and my tires need to be replaced. Sounds like a quicky lube to me. He has the details in hand ready to go. 2X 119$ for tires not to bad. He used the scare tactics that my threads where showing, I know for a fact they were not, he was just using high pressure tactics to make me feel unsafe to buy under duress. I agree let's get that oil change and two tires, it's after 3 o clock and they call me back. Roughly an other three hours for a high pressure sale and not doing 75% of what I asked. Remember they are a full service and can do it all!!! I show up, abs he's giving the same speech to some one who clearly has a language barrier. Dealership, only can do the things that have the highest ROI. Just sad honestly. He says "413$" I got an oil change, and 2X 120$ tires. That means 240$ in tires Ans 180$ labor and oil change. Hmmmm. Nope, I just got scammed and slammed. Not only did he lie to me about my threads showing (scamming) he also freely added 29.99 per tired 59.98 total Road Ready Tire Package. (Slamming) I never asked for this, this was never discussed, and I didn't know I even had it until after I paid. The oil change is a good deal, considering it's roughly 75$ for full synthetic. Val volume down the road charges 125$ and a dealership cost 80-90$ Overall I won't return. Scamming and slamming is terrible tactics and shouldn't be used in selling of products. I was already buying tires, he didn't need to lie. But that's how he lured me in is with a lie, that may be all he knows how to do. I suggest being very careful going here they will take advantage of you. I met one of the mechanics they seem genuinely concerned about the cars I trust the mechanics not to sabotage my vehicle, that's why I have two stars. If you want the story in a nut shell "go to a dealership" it's what he's going to tell you anyways after he has lured you in, keep your vehicle hostage, and then used high pressure sale tactics to maximize his profit. My Jeep needed a safety inspection and turned out to need some very costly repairs. Not only did Tim walk me through these with all of the alternatives and costs/benefits; he helped me to not be charged for the work after I decided about an hour later to not do the repairs for financial reasons after first giving him the go-ahead. Tim was extremely knowledgeable and offered sound advice going forwards regarding used car research and purchasing. For someone who puts a lot of faith in mechanics this garage appears to have at least one ethical expert working there. Will be back for pre-purchase inspections in the near future and going forward with my vehicle. Highly recommended. read more

We all have car emergency days & when a business comes to the rescue of your car emergency, you want to tell the world about it! Today my plan was to take my daughters car to an oil change business & have her car's oil changed & also get the inspections I needed to renew her license plates. While driving to this business, I ran over a curb & blew out her front left tire. AAA came & changed my tire & I went home to find a tire shop that carried the brand of tire on her car. I finally called Car-X on Page Ave.. I talked to the manager, Cliff Buerger & explained what happened and what I needed. He said he had the tire & he would fit me in to put on the new tire, change the oil, do the inspections & an alignment (if needed). When I arrived he wrote up the work order & the car was taken in within 10 minutes. I waited two hours (remember, four different type of jobs needed to be done!). As I was paying the bill, I mentioned I was planning to go to the license bureau in Creve Coeur. Cliff said there was a license bureau three minutes down the road. So, off I went & 30 minutes later I had my daughter's new plates (they are giving out the new bicentennial license plates now). While there, I received a voice mail from Cliff that said his mechanic may have left his flash light in my car, so I returned to the shop. The flashlight had already been found, so I asked to borrow a screw driver to put my new plates on. He said since I returned for nothing, he would have his mechanic put them on for me. Now, could a bad day have ended any better than this? Thank you Cliff & team for taking care of a mother, who was trying to take of her daughter's car, but hit a bump in the road, literally! read more

If I could give it ZERO stars I would, but unfortunately I can't. Took my mini van or there for a simple tune up but ended up having to change 2 ignition coils and 2 fuel injectors. After spending $1300 there, my ck engine light was still on and even worse, it was blinking/flashing. They said it was misfiring and jumping around so it's not on one cylinder. They couldn't figure out what was going on. The store manager suggested to have one of his tech guys from ANOTHER shop (Watson) to come down and drive my van all the way back to the Watson store to ck it out. According to the store manager, that tech guy is one of the best guys and that at his curing location, no one knows what's wrong. While all these things is going on, they still drove my van around to test drive it while the check engine light was on and flashing. At first I agreed but then I talked to one of our friend whom also had an autobody shop. He said to take our van out and nvr come back to car x because they have no idea what they are doing. After going to our friend's shop, it turned out we had to change all 6 fuel injectors. But that wasn't all, my cat was bad too, due to car x constantly 'test driving' my van. After evevrythig was fix and my van was running like new, I ended up paying close to $4g. I suggest, EVEN IF u need something as simple as an oil change or tires, or even inspections, to NEVER EVER GO TO CAR X! read more

Against my better judgement, I sent my husband to this place of business to have a quick patch placed on a puncture in our tire based on the positive reviews I read on here. I'm completely aware that not all punctures can simply have a patch placed, but this was a simple fix. We purchased the car brand new, so it would stand to reason that the tires would have relatively the same amount of miles as the vehicle. The "mechanic" tried to tell my husband that we had an alignment issue, scrubbing, or a rotation issue...unfortunately for him we're educated enough people to know that this car has 17,000 miles on it and the tires were rotated at 10,000. We understand that it could potentially be a safety issue to place a plug too close to the side walls, but that's not the case here. He tried to sell my husband four new tires for $500 and when he mentioned getting a second opinion it miraculously became $400. Don't waste your time with these people. They're dishonest and money grubbing. read more

I took my car in to the Overland location yesterday for a front end alignment. The technician came out and told me he was surprised I made it in alive. The adjustment sleeve on one side of my car was completely loose so the right front wheel was free to move laterally as much as 3 inches side to side while the left side wheel was moving straight ahead. They quickly threw some numbers together for an estimate which I knew was extremely marked up. I do my own car repairs so I know a ball joint shouldn't cost $200. The local auto parts store had the same part for $19.99. I know its a business and there is some markup on parts but $20 and $200 for the same part is ridiculous. I drove the car slowly back home where I proceeded to remove the tires and work on it myself. One adjustment sleeve was all I needed to return the car to safe operating condition. A measly $11 part would have insured I made it home okay. Instead this location merely wrote "Do Not Drive" on the estimate for repairs and gave me my keys after I declined to let them charge me $700.00 to do unnecessary work. I later found that two of the parts on the invoice didn't need to be replaced. The two parts that were not needed on my original invoice would have cost me $424.00. That's money I can now leave in my pocket. At the minimum I would have gladly signed a waiver for them to install a clamp and a nutted screw to hold the wheel securely so I could get it home but this option was not offered at any time. I have taken my car to Car-X for years but this visit left me feeling like some changes will need to be made. I took the car in today for an alignment at another shop and they took care of it within an hour. I asked them about the work I did and they noted that the parts were adjusted just fine. read more
