On the phone it is explained to me they were going to warranty the part and car x would cover it. 1st trip to car x in shrewsbury: I took my car in for an oil change. And I was notified that I would need ball joints. And then I was called and told I needed a new Radiator, I took my car home, and let it sit for 16 hours. And this is what I came to. The front of my car was broken, my hood would not close without being slammed down. Oil completely over filled.. What I thought was oil all over the ground. 2nd trip to car x in Shrewsbury: I told them what they did to my car. They said the would redo my oil change and fix what was broken in the front of my car and check the rest of the work. Alica told me she was gonna have her husband come over from the kinghighway store and work on my car because "these guys don't know what they're doing" said Alica... A few hours later I come to pick my vehicle up, and was notified that she accidentally had stabbed my Radiator, with a tool. And they had to put in another new one.. And there was still oil all over my wheel area and under the hood. After I was just told by a guy from the Kirkwood location, that came to work on my car that they cleaned it.. I had to ask again if they would wipe it off.. I also checked my oil that day and it was still over filled.. But not as much as before so I thought it would be okay... The following morning I had to drive a good distance on the highway and I was scared for my life because I kept hearing noises.. So I called AGAIN for the third time.. The sent me to the Kinghighway store.. 3rd trip to car x: Took my car in after work that Tuesday they ended up having to keep my car over night and all day until 2pm on Wednesday.. They notified me that the "oil" that was on the ground, they were told from the Shrewsbury store that it was transmission fluid because they didn't put the tubes on correctly.. They told me that my Radiator was not put in the right spot correctly, my ball joints were not tightened all the way, and the had to give me my 3rd oil change because they over filled it. . . So I picked it up, it was okay but still not 100%.. I tuned on the heat and accidentally hit my air and immediately turned it to heat. My car freaked out and got loud and vibrated.. This happened 3 times. I took it back to the Kingshighway store immediately.. One of the techs heard the sounds and made it seem like it wasn't they're fault... My car had never done that before.. They told me if it wasnt consistently doing that they can't find the problem. And if it does it again to ignore until it happens all the time.. I was told this by the Kingshighway store manager Lee.. So since then I have not brought it back. They have ruined my Jeep.. I keep hearing knocking noises when I turn my wheel to the right. My car jumps when coming and going from stops.. On one of the last days I had it, it rained all day. And my car made a terrible grinding noise.. On Oct.27,2019 and I took my car to firestore to get completely looked at.. My Transmission was completely ruined with no transmission fluid in it..( from what I thought was oil on the ground from the first trip was transmission fluid.) So they never refilled my transmission fluid... They decided to give me $500 from the Radiator, that the manager at the Shrewsbury store stabbed with a tool.. And blamed the company the Radiator came from.. I ended up having to buy a new vehicle! I am very upset, and honestly feel helpless.. I had been unable to drive my car.. I had taken off work..They have caused so much damage! I hate complaining but this was the worst experience I have ever gone through with my car from an auto repair shop. read more

This place is a RIPP OFF They tried to charge me $800 TO INSTALL A Blower motor & cabin air filter. On a 2000 chevy surburbin It only takes 30 minutes to replace. They said they have to charge $89.00 Just to check it out, I know what I want,( a cabin air filter, & a new blower) it don't matter, this $89 doller inspection fee, is a RIPP off, If u need any work, they will apply it to the Bill. They wanted $500.00 for a blower motor that only cost $51.00, & a $89.00 Filter, that cost $14.00 at part store. I had they, but they won't use my parts. To install blower motor, remove 2 screws, unplug blower & push tab , twist & Remove. Takes 5 minutes. They never have any CUSTOMERS when I drive buy, daily. Now I know why. read more

I received a follow-up call from the district manager pretty quickly and he was able to get me into a different location where the safety/emissions inspections were done again at no cost. All the paperwork is correct and I appreciate the prompt customer service. I went to the 9965 Watson location in Crestwood and the manager there, Jake, was friendly and easy to work with. Several times I saw him chatting personably with other customers or going the extra step to help them out. It sounds like the issue was a computer fluke, which is understandable and the corporate aspect of Car-X did promptly follow-up and correct the situation. Original Review Below: I went in on 14SEP for an oil change and to get a safety/emissions inspection done. Upon reviewing the paperwork when I left, I noticed all of the paperwork was listed for the wrong last name and address, despite the vehicle ID being right. No worries, I called and they said that the home office was closed on Saturday and that the paperwork would be ready next week. I ended up taking some PTO from work in order to go in today, 20SEP and the paperwork was even worse. No new safety or emissions paperwork was provided to me and the CAR-X paperwork provided had not only the wrong address, but was for a completely different vehicle and VIN that I don't own. Somehow, my 07 Hyundai Elantra became a Jeep Cherokee. I'm baffled. The lady working up front said there was nothing else that could be done for me and so I was forced to just leave. Now I have two sets of paperwork, one of which is for a car that's not even mine and I've been told that there is no way to correct what was issued. I'm considering just getting the safety/emissions re-done at another shop just because this paperwork looks so messed up. Not sure where Walker went. This store used to be my favorite auto shop as Walker and his technicians would walk you around your vehicle and explain if you needed service or not. Last December, I brought my vehicle in for an oil change. Nick Massey studied my history for a long time. I asked him if there was a problem - he apparantly was trying to figure out if they sold me a new battery. Once they had the vehicle up on the hoist, he came out into the lobby and told me my battery needed replacing when there was nothing wrong with it - it was a newer battery. He sent me the failed battery test report via email while I was there, which may be part of the SCAM. It stating it failed the test but the paperwork they gave me after I paid for the oil change - said the battery passed all tests. I took it to Napa immediately who also verified my battery was in good condition and passed the test. Car-X lost my business forever. Untrustworthy business. read more

I used to love this place, they'd let you supply your own part and put it in for like $100.00. Most places won't do that (I think they get a cut of the 3x parts markup). BUT, I took my 12 year old Highlander in there for an inspection last week, and they failed it for a leaking rack and pinion. And tried to sell me on a new one for $1700--I declined. At home, I checked the power steering fluid reservoir, it was full to the line, despite that I don't believe I've ever added steering fluid in the twelve years I've owned the car. And I put it up on jackstands and had a look at the rack and pinion--everything was dry as a bone. And I took it to Dobbs today, and it passed. Dobbs didn't see any leak... So I think it's obvious this place tried to skin me for $1700 in unnecessary work, just because my plates were expired. I'll never go there again. DISHONEST MECHANIC SHOP--AVOID... read more

I wish things would have gone differently.. When you have an oil change sign for under $20 on your front window, why did I end up paying $40.00 ... I also needed a safety and emission done as well, and sure enough, they tell me I have to replace my master cylinder?? From what I've gathered from multiple car experts, if your master cylinder needs replacing you'd be having a lot of brake problems, like a lot.. and I'm having ZERO, in fact, took it to another auto repair shop, and like magic nothing is wrong with my vehicle, passed with flying colors. PS The average cost for a master cylinder for my vehicle on Google is $50, they estimated cost for repair at $600, and they sure didn't forget to tell me about the Car-X credit card... The first time I came to the CarX I had a Groupon. I had never been to a CarX before, and wasn't sure what to expect, but they offer amazing deals and this location is around the corner from my house. Since then, these guys have saved my butt and haven't totally raped my bank account. The first cold morning of the winter (like REAL cold), my car wouldn't turn over. My dad gave me a jump and I puttered to the CarX. They tested my battery and found that it needed to be replaced. Even though I didn't have an appointment, they got me in and out of there and I wasn't even late for work that morning. I was so thankful for the special attention and have been sending my family members there since. Prior to my most recent visit, I probably would have given more stars, however, this past time, I feel like they were trying to rip me off. I came in for an oil change, tire rotation, and new windshield wiper blades. I tried to ignore the Fox news on the TV and read my new issue of Yoga Journal. Then they sent out the nice guy - You know, the guy who sits next to you and uses your first name like he knows you. The guy they break out when they want to make a sale. Well, he tells me that all of my tires are falling apart and I need to replace all of them as soon as possible and here's the special deal they were willing to give me. I didn't say this to him, but my brother is a mechanic. He keeps an eye on my car for me and last time he was in town, I had him check my tires. He said my tires weren't that bad and that mechanics say women are the best customers because they can appeal to our fears and scare the daylights out of us. Well, I really don't appreciate that. Sell me what I need and I'll gladly come to you for it. Try to over-sale me and scare me? Sorry Charlie. I also did a little bit of a sneaky thing - My tire pressure light has been on all winter. I didn't *ask* them to fill up my tires, but I was curious if they would see the light when they were driving it and just fill them up because they are my chosen mechanics (Remember, I have sent multiple customers)...Well, they didn't. I'm not knocking any stars for that, but I surely would have appreciated the effort. Also, it makes me wonder if there was some other random light on if they would ignore it. We dropped off our disabled daughters car off at this Car X for a simple inspection, they called us back with the results a day later and we were shocked, it needed 1200 dollars work, but we thought if it needs it what can we do. My father in law who had worked on the car just a week before said "no way" that car is tip top so he paid them a visit and wanted answers. They proceeded to jerk him around for a bit but then after they realized that he knew more about cars than they did they came clean and said "the only thing that made the car fail inspection was a single brake light" everything else was just suggested repairs! So he put in the light and got the passing inspection and then proceeded to call them out in front of customers in the waiting room. Explanations and options were explained clearly and without any pressure. The pricing itself is about average but the customer service excels. I've always dreamed of the day when I'd have an $800 oil change. It finally came! Ok, truth be told IF you are very specific & request ONLY an oil change these guys are very reasonable in price. The problem is they seem to live and die by the "buffet repair" model - which is where they give you the Golden Coral list of issues that are wrong with your vehicle that MUST be repaired. I'm all for safety, but this was outright gouging. Honest shops will tell you "hey this might need to be repaired within the next year" or "I'm not sure what you planned to spend today, but here are a few things that might need to be addressed." They want your business for the long haul. These guys just say, "congratulations on your supersized bill that you weren't planning on, that'll be $500." Also make sure you double check pricing- other than oil service I called around and they were about 15-20% above other estimates. Sorry guys, you were nice, but I don't like being taken advantage of.
