I had a very late dinner at the CARABINER, along with a few too many shots. Co worker and I ordered two items and shared. I got the chorizo chimichanga and she got the grilled cheese and bacon sandwich. The chimi had potential but it was too skimp on the fillings. All tortilla, not enough meat. The grilled cheese was bomb. It was a triple decker with bacon and tomato. Very tasty. Others from our group said the Carabiner was the best restaurant given the consistently poor service at a few of the other spots in the resort. Staff went out of the way to accommodate our family on Christmas Eve. Mom made Christmas Day reservations- but blanked on Christmas Eve. They squeezed us in - a lovely lounge spot by the fire. We had two kids , 5 and 7, hangry from a day on the slopes - and they were so kind. Our server went way out of her way to work around my long list of food allergies. It wasn't even kept under a heatlamp between the era when it was made and when it was served. Edges were dry and cold, not even warm in the center, zero juice. I get it, resort prices, convenience of eating in the Summit Lodge, trying hard not to complain about the $25 price, but it was just a limp cold burger. Fries? Also cold. I mean, the least they could have done, after recognizing the long time passed between making the meal and serving it, is refresh the fries, no? Cold greasy fries, cold dry overcooked burger. One star at any price. It's not like there's a shortage of burger options right at the Summit either. Am I going to complain that it was $75 for three burgers at our table? No, not if they were hot juicy Wagyu Cheeseburgers, but then, these were not. read more

We were a party of eight and all food was bad. Cocktails were bad too. Do not order the Rodeo. Then again bartenders were very young and probably inexperienced. The burgers were way overcooked, like charcoal, and the cheese tasted like plastic. Fondu was very odd, too liquidy and served with berries and too flavorful overcooked veggies. The meatballs were dense and rubbery. But the worst was the carbonara, which was just a plate of noodles and cream. Server was nice and agreed to comp the pasta and two burgers but manager only compped one $36 burger, even though neither got eaten. I never write reviews, just don't go here. This place needs to step it up for where it is, the prices, and the competition that's coming. read more

It's a good option if you're trying to grab some food and cocktails and want to avoid the crowds. Cozy small restaurant located in The Summit hotel. I enjoyed relaxing by the indoor fireplace. I had two dirty martinis and they were good. Tried the green curry chili and it was OK. The menu was very odd as I can see they were trying to do random Asian fusion items. Nothing really made it amazing but it was definitely more relaxing than the food court dining. read more

I was in Big Sky last week with my family. As the day got much later, we started looking through Yelp to find a place that is open and has good reviews. Since the hour was past 9pm our choices were limited but we found Carabiner Lounge but it did not have great reviews. We decided to eat here anyways because it was so close to us. The setting is beautiful, the service was excellent and most importantly, our food was delicious. Our server was extremely patient and kind. We came in with two young children and they asked him several questions and he took the time to answer them with a smile, which we appreciated greatly. The server recommended the Nashville Hot Chicken Wedge and he was spot on! I normally would have ordered a steak or something like that...not a salad but I'm VERY glad I went with his recommendation. It was delicious and the amount of chicken was large. The drinks and appetizers were great. At the very end, I made it a point to tell our server that they have a number of unjust reviews and everything we experienced was quite the opposite. I would highly recommend eating here. read more

A nice option for a sit-down lunch accessible from the base of the mountain, so this can be a lunch spot during a ski day. We did have to wait about 30 min for a table, so it ended up being a longer lunch break than we expected. They had some local beers on tap. Poutine involved fingerling potatoes, rather than french fries, so was a hearty dish that served as my lunch. The burger looked good but maybe a large portion for a ski lunch. read more

The worst, and ironically most expensive meal we've had on the mountain. I would recommend skipping the overpriced "Asian fusion" which is really just "mediocre, Asian ingredient filled, food." We had the poke nachos, which were by far the highlight of our dining here. The flavor was nice, but the portion size was maybe 8 wontons crisps. We also had the green papaya salad, which could have used the traditional bed of sticky rice, to make this a more hearty and full flavored appetizer. Then we split a noodle bowl with tofu. This dish was a whopping $22 and maybe worth $10. The flavor was off, heavy with ginger and vinegar, while simultaneously being bland with peanut. Not sure how this was accomplished, but it was. We often eat Asian food at home, both traditional and chef inspired fusion dishes, and this place did not live up to any of them. Want to guess what our meal cost, even with splitting an entree? 80$ what?!? And not to mention it took a rather long time for our drinks to come out. My final drink was served with the check, which I took "to-go". This spot was not full and there shouldn't have been a bar back up. The wine, beer, and cider are all more costly than any of the other spots. So would I return? Nope. No thanks. Not again. read more

The staff at this restaurant go above and beyond! The service is incredibly friendly and caring and the culinary team is TALENTED! I have very annoying dietary restrictions and hate to make a fuss at restaurants. When the staff found out I was staying at the hotel for 5 days, the chef preemptively prepared versions of dishes that were safe for me to eat. And they were FANTASTIC! The dan dan noodles were out of this world. I am so grateful fir their hospitality and care. I can't recommend this place enough! read more

My friend and I sat here for most of our day while our friends skied and enjoyed the amazing service by Sara, Billy, and Steve. We tried their espresso martini, the toddy, the lemongrass marg and our waiter Billy's take on an Irish coffee for drinks and every one was delicious. For food, we had the dumplings, the lettuce cups, and the poke and those also hit the spot. The reviews referring to the price might be forgetting this is a big resort so the prices are going to match that. The service makes the price point absolutely worth it. This place is hard to capture in words. Ok, maybe one word. It's good. Pretty much that - good. I had a good cocktail, good food, good service, you get the idea. Nothing was bad or off but (with one exception) nothing really stood out either. The happy exception was the dessert menu - everything was great! We spent a week in Big Sky for work and ate at nearly every restaurant in Vista Hall, the Summit Hotel, and Huntley Lodge. Carabiner was our best dining experience while we were there. Yes, the service was a bit slow as mentioned in other reviews, but they had the most vegan-friendly options and fresh veggies were a rare find during our stay in Big Sky. The food is ordinary. I ordered the bison sliders; they are advertised in three versions. Since the server did not ask me which I wanted, I assumed I would get one if each. She made the choice for me. The patty was well done; they did not ask how I wanted it. It was barely warm. I ordered the chimichanga yesterday. They were bite size, which maximizes the amount of dough and minimized the filling. I enjoyed dipping them in the salsa and the sour cream. Not sure how to dip into sliced olives. Call them tostadas!!! This was not what anyone in North America thinks "nachos" are whatsoever. I'm all over ceviche and other such tostadas but was irritated that I expected something totally different.
