Don't be fooled by the pics--this place is not budget-friendly. We came in expecting a decent meal under $50/pp, like the photos and menu led us to believe. Instead? A lake fish for over $50, Elk over $60, NY Strip pushing $70 and a glass of wine for $35--even though the bottle retails for $50 (I checked!). Seriously? This is even more than some of the finest steak houses in San Diego, which this was not. It's the tail end of ski season, and it feels like they're squeezing every last dollar out of tourists. The service was solid--no complaints there and thus an extra star--but these prices are out of touch with reality for most Americans. Skiing's already an expensive sport, and places like this are turning it into something only oligarchs can afford. read more

Great dinner at Cabin! This surprised me as I thought it would be more casual but it was a little more fancy. Service was great. I recommend reservations. 1. Caesar salad - fresh tasting. Good size with cheese 2. Mussels in curry - no peanuts in the curry. Very good and lots of sauce! Very tasty and big mussels from NZ 3. Bison - a little gamey but overall cooked as I asked and flavorful 4. Cheesecake - very good and filling 5. Love this restaurant - it's more fit for larger groups who want a nicer meal at the base. The food is tailored more towards beef, elk, bison but they do offer a fish and pheasant dish for those who prefer that. The cabin salad was great, a good portion. The NY strip was cooked a perfect rare, they do know how to cook to the correct temperature. The pheasant was super juicy and the wild rice side was a great complement. Highly recommend this place but knocked it down one star because of a $7.50 split charge for the dishes. read more

What can I say other than The Cabin is AWESOME!! We have been here for lunch and dinner the last 3 days the atmosphere is laid back and the service is always fantastic!! The bar has great selections of Bourbon as well!! For lunch the Fish and Chips are out of this world perfectly cooked Halibut!! If you have a chance to make a dinner reservation do it and get the Elk it is their specialty cut of meat amazing!! Oh and wash that down with Orin Swift The Prisoner!! Entering the restaurant you're greeted with warm wood tones throughout this tiny little hole in the wall. I was by myself so had a seat at the bar. The staff was great! The team recovered from a power outage just before opening!! The Cabin is extremely Montana from the albino Elk mountain to the huckleberry martinis. We began with very well made mixed drinks. This is an excellent restaurant in Big Sky that shouldn't be skipped just because it is a bit harder to find. Service here was the best we experienced and the menu is one of those that you open up with a smile and sense of relief. Highly varied with tons of options for the whole team. Only annoying part is that they have three different winter opening times listed in three different places online (5:00, 5:30, and 6:00). Would be nice to clean that up. read more

Short story: Diner quality and atmosphere at (very) fine-dining prices. How in the world is this place way more expensive than Olive B's or Block 3, to name a few? Longer story: The service was friendly and fine. The walleye and veggies were good, though hardly worth $57. ($57!) Nothing else was even close. The single open room has tables and chairs covered in padded vinyl; both would be at home in a diner. The brie was bland and cool when it arrived at the table. The bread was slightly stale. The rice was flavorless. With two courses, we were in and out in 50 minutes. But maybe that's a plus here; we certainly didn't want to linger. read more

The Cabin bar and Grill restaurant is a good restaurant with fantastic ambiance. A great Western feel with a log cabin setting. The menu is diverse, offering everything from Beef, Bison, Elk, Trout and a plethora of other dishes. As a group of 8, we were able to try a variety of dishes. The meatballs were tasty but the consistency was a bit chewy. The trout, however, was delicious, both tender and flavorful with a wonderful sauce which did not overwhelm the natural state of the fish. The only suggestion I would have is for the staff and management not to argue with patrons on the preparation of the meal being served. Though expectation of rare, medium, well done, etc. vary for different individuals, the patron should have the last word on how meat should be prepared and not be debated upon semantics. Aside from this mishap, it is a good restaurant worth visiting on your next ski/snowboard trip. read more

Great service! Great food! So many places were closed but we were so lucky this was not one of them!! We had a group of 5 -6 and had a variety of dishes: steak, walleye, elk, pork and it was all delicious. Many of us started with salads which were also a big hit. I'll start by saying that I've traveled to several different ski resorts all over the world and have never been impressed with any of the cuisine I found in those spots. I'm happy to report that the Cabin is one of the best ski resort restaurants I've ever been to! The menu is really appealing and diverse. From Bison to elk, duck to rabbit, there are a lot of wild game options to choose from. Most of our party got the Elk since it's so rare to find on a menu. It was fantastic! All the food we ate was really tasty and the service was pretty good too. My party of 7 all ate heartily for $700. Ate here last Wednesday. Asked the waiter if they had Michter's rye, which they did. Ordered three over the course of dinner. Bill came and they charged $89 per drink! I asked if this was correct. He immediately offered to take one off. I still asked if that was correct because even in Big Sky, Michter's should be no more than $20, absolute max of $25. He finally acknowledges they were serving me Michter's 10 year. I ordered Michter's, not Michter's 10 year. They clearly sought to cheat me. I wanted to like this place, but the food was so so average. We had the bison, trout, steak and gnocchi and everything was diner quality presentation and taste. No one finished their meal. Very hard to find for dinner because the sign has no lights and the restaurant is on the 3rd floor of what is basically and office building. Being at the bottom of the mountain, the food is SO OVERPRICED FOR JUST OKAY FOOD. The decor leaves something to be desired and the chairs are wooden and uncomfortable. The wine list is very reasonably reasonably priced! We had a weird experience with our server. When he gave us our Cabin Salads with burrata there was no burrata on them. When we mentioned it, he said he had informed us that they had run out of burrata at the beginning of our evening. This was not true, and it got even weirder when we were like "oh, none of us 6 people remember that" and instead of apologizing, he doubled down on the lie and gave us no option to cancel our second order of it that was on the way. I would call him rude. Now on to the food: MUST GET: -- Duck and waffle: their take on chicken and waffles. Very tasty, sweet and savory. But it was $42 which is NOT what it is worth. JUST OKAY: -- Cabin Salad: I assume the salad would be ok with some burrata -- without it it was dry and tasteless -- Brie app: brief wrapped in phyllo dough, can't really mess that up. I came here for dinner with several friends a while back, and we were all very excited by the menu! The available entrees included bison, elk, and several different cuts of steak. My wife and I found this place near the base of the Big Sky Ski Resort near Village Center. We stumbled upon the restaurant which is in a building near Arrowhead on the third floor. It had a more elegant feel than the other restaurants in the village area and a bar and kitchen to match. The wait staff was fantastic. Everyone was very attentive. They served bread to the table which was great with several different kinds of bread and butter. I had the Charbroiled Elk Tenderloin which was amazing. The dish was very nicely done and a great choice. My wife ordered the grilled salmon which was the special and was flown in that day. My wife loves fresh fish and said she loved it. I would recommend this restaurant for a nicer more upscale environment in Big Sky. You don't have to dress up, it just feels a little nicer that the other restaurants. While it took a while to get a table (reservations are essential here) it was 100% with the wait. The food is great and you can't go wrong - we each ordered different things and all cane away stuffed and happy. Including and perhaps especially the desserts. My goodness they were fine. But what really stood out was the service. Our server was the consummate professional. Crisp, courteous, knowledgeable, refined, and helpful. I wish he were at more tables in our lives. In our opinion this is the best nice place at Big Sky. Wow what a find! We stayed at Summit next door and this restaurant was suggested to us. It is beyond amazing.To start we enjoyed the cabin salad and cup of soup. The soup was roasted red bell pepper, zucchini, and corn puréed. Great flavor. My husband had the evening special Bison ribs with a raspberry bbq sauce. Tasty!!
