First time getting loaded quesadilla. I can appreciate the size but when ordering I didn't realize everything was inside. The guac and sour cream. I don't generally eat all my food and my concern was how do you heat it up? I was very disappointed and feel like $20 for a quesadilla ($17 for door and $2 tip) is a lot just to be thrown away. We LOVE Caramba!!! We go as a family with our teens and everyone is happy with their food!! The bartenders are super nice and you get great service here. We ordered all different burritos and everyone really enjoyed what they ordered. Our daughter had the mini chimichangas and she said they were so delicious. Visited the area for work and i was looking for some Mexican food. I received a few recommendations for This place. I ordered a carne asada Burrito California style without the potatoes, and 2 carne asada tacos. Both had legit no flavor. How is it possible to have carne asada with no flavor. That's the whole thing, flavor, flavor, flavor!! Fresh lime etc. Just overall disappointing. Came in with a large group. Food was hot and fresh, though this is the first time ever out of all their locations and as many time as we eat at a Carambas was different. Carambas (59th Ave & Utopia) catered my friend's memorial service which I was in charge of setting up & serving. Steve delivered the food on time and it looked amazing! As a retired caterer, cook & Hispanic myself I pay attention to the all the details. The presentation of the entrees was awesome! Everything looked beautiful and was absolutely delicious! They brought a generous amount of salsas, guacamole & sour cream. Both salsas & guacamole were outstanding! The chips were fresh and the salad was beautiful! I don't even know where to begin with Caramba's. If you're looking for actual Mexican food, keep walking--this place is a disaster in a sombrero. The chips were stale, like they'd been left out since last Cinco de Mayo, and the salsa tasted like watered-down ketchup. I ordered the enchiladas, which arrived lukewarm, soggy, and smothered in a "cheese" sauce that looked like it came straight from a can labeled "Regret." The rice was mushy, the beans were dry, and the guacamole? Brown. Somehow both overripe and under-seasoned. I could make a better taco blindfolded with a microwave and some gas station tortillas. Let's face it, you go to a Mexican restaurant for good Mexican food. This is not that place. Ordered bean burrito and tostada. Burrito had a lot of tortilla and not not much in the way of beans. The new carambas is open!! Great food and some of the same great staff. Really nice bar area and patio. The entire family loved eating here. Will be back. Street tacos - fantastic. Large pastor tacos - fantastic. Primo margarita is still my favorite margarita just about anywhere. If you have an EV, there are 12 charging spots by the restaurant. If you dont have an Ev, there was ample parking all the way to the west in the parking lot. We may park out there even on the weekends and evenings, just to enjoy the walk. I have been to this location many times, but today's experience was unacceptable. The manager at the register ignored me while carrying on a conversation with another employee and did not acknowledge me at all. When I addressed the lack of basic courtesy, the manager responded disrespectfully. This level of service from a manager is not acceptable and needs to be addressed by ownership. read more

Horrible experience with some staff (Juan). I've been a carumbas patron for over 35 years (Glendale and 55th Ave) We have several restaurants that we visit because of the food and the staff. So when the staff is good,l and personable, we will return for sure. But when the one of the staff (Juan)makes you feel uncomfortable because you prefer a certain staff member due to their personality, we will stop visiting that establishment. It's sad that one person can cause a problem for patrons . As a business owner, I know the value of regulars and how important the staff plays a part in building a relationship with "regulars". We had a hankering for Tex-Mex food, so we begin our search for a restaurant where we had not yet dined. We are visiting from Tennessee where good Tex-Mex restaurants are few and far between so, we are trying as many restaurants as possible in search of the perfect chimichanga. The chimichanga is what I ordered and "Ay Caramba!!" Definitely in the top 5. The presentation was absolutely a work of art, with the sour cream, pico and avocado on top sprinkled with cheddar cheese. It was truly a sight to behold. The tortilla was golden brown and crispy as it should be. The chicken was melt-in-your-mouth delicious' My wife ordered two chicken enchiladas and they as well were perfectly plated. But here's the reason for not achieving a 5-star review: the chicken was not piping hot as it should be. It was warm. Acceptable? Yes but not perfect. The margaritas are fantastic. And they do not skimp on the tequila. They also offer bottled margaritas as a takeout option. There is a self-serve salsa bar and the mild salsa is spot on. The restaurant has a large outdoor patio and the interior is divided into two spaces: the main dining area is family friendly and the Cantina has a full length bar and caters to an adult crowd. It is obvious that there is a hopping crowd in the evenings. We will definitely return and this time, we will make it known that we prefer entrees that are piping hot through and through. read more

OMG! The BEST Mexican food we've had since we've been here 3 years. Had to drive alllll the way out west to get it. We were in the area and decided to pop in... so happy we did. My niece and I had the shrimp quesadilla which were VERY good and well seasoned. Hubs had the chicken fundido which he also enjoyed but couldn't finish. Bless the salsa fresca bar for saving a flavorless meal. It takes a special skill to turn freshly made food into something that tastes more like cafeteria steamer tray fare, but they somehow managed it and it made me sad since I wanted so much to like this homey little spot with a cute thatched roof bar (unfortunately only bottled beer but the margaritas did look great). The cashier was busy on the phone and should've at least given some eye contact acknowledgment that she'd be with us shortly but it was as though we weren't even standing there waiting to place our orders. In contrast, another woman was busily cleaning off the tables and helping people at the trash who were trying to place the trays and push open the bin, so we left a generous tip in the jar for her sake. The sides of rice and beans were small and bland, the chicken burrito had nice pieces of chicken but where was a flavorful sauce? The green corn tamales were not in corn husks like in the pictures and were almost all masa with scarcely any corn to be found. The raspberry tea was dark and over sweetened, but was pleased it wasn't in styrofoam but paper--we need to reduce plastic use, so the tiny little plastic cups at the salsa bar should also be switched over to paper. Ample outdoor eating area with misters, but right along shopping center entrance so lots of traffic and no plants to add atmosphere or walls to buffer noise. Plenty of room for improvement overall so am surprised that a local chain with years of experience just didn't work for me. read more

Been going here for 18 years, not exactly sure. Juan the manager is still great every time he sees me. The bar has gone down since Jake opened his business. Tonight was by far the worst service I've ever received. The owners grandson just walks around, doing nothing. The bar tender gave double chips to both couples next to me and my wife. Her first drink took thirty minutes. Gave our order probably after an hour of little to no service. Then twenty minutes later the bar tender asked is this your order, with a question. Hadn't even placed it yet, nope. We asked for our check, long time customer finally had enough of the bar. Won't be back, supported this business for years but worst service by the four people in the bar tonight. Sad, most of my friends knew I loved going here. You totally worked around me and then gave me a check for the wrong drinks, didn't ask for my food order. Won't be back, long time customer that's finally decided it time to move on. This Phoenix chain has been around for years and this particular location used to be frequent destination for the Princess and me with her sister and former husband. Somehow it fell off the rotation but luckily we've recently re-discovered it and it's been a joy to renew a friendship. While Carambas has an extensive menu, we typically opt for the Carna Asada plate- two tacos absolutely stuffed with a generous portion of tasty meat. The tacos are served two-tortilla style with a light layer of cheese between the two which is awesome as it helps hold the meat securely in place. The plate comes with rice and beans which I completely dose with some of the wonderful salsa from the always clean and full salsa bar. There are salsas of varying hotness for everyone in your party. Years ago we had dinner there and I had one of their margaritas which I believe basically comes out of a Slurpee machine. It was good! And strong! I had to be driven home that night by the Princess. I bring this up because they seem to have won The Best Margarita in the Valley per Phoenix Magazine which I believe comes from their readers. Crazy, right? In a Metro area filled with high brow restaurants and "Cadillac Margaritas" for $15, the "best" margarita comes from a machine, served in a plastic cup. God bless America!
