We came here while visiting my mom. We love Mexican food and miss the SW style, so I was excited to eat. Honestly, the experience and flavors were so amazing, I'm not joking when I say this might be my favorite Mexican restaurant in the US to date. My wife had the carne asada and it was an actual thick and juicy steak cut into pieces. Usually you get a flat steak but this one was something else. We went again later in the trip and she ordered this again because it was just too good not to. I ordered different things on the two occasions. I'm writing this about two weeks later so my memory is failing me but I remember just absolutely loving it. On my second visit I had the Pollo Fundito. Great food, wonderful atmosphere! We came for lunch when restaurant open. Our food and drinks were served immediately but, felt we were being rushed. Server asked if we finished our plates, mine was not finished, I let her take it anyway. Next ticket put down on table chips and salsa taken away. Friday night Is busy! Got there at 5:30, waited on patio apx 10 minutes and was seated. The place was packed! So many people. Got the best waiter, he was on it. Pleasant, attentive, and friendly. Ordered queso and chips - delish. Food was fantastic. Chicken tostada, tacos rice & beans, chili reyanos enchilada rice & beans, and a burrito. Everything was perfect. $5 margaritas were so good. We moved here to AZ and have been searching for a good Mexican Restaurant. We enjoy the food at Don Ruben's. The taste of the different dishes we've tried were all yummy, the prices are reasonable. It's typically pretty busy. The place could use a face-lift as it seems a bit out-dated, older but it was fine. The service was good and that coupled with good food and decent prices is a winner for us!! We'll be back for sure! read more

I routinely get take-out from here about 3x a month. Consistently good. I always get the #4, which is two cheese enchiladas with beans and rice. And of course their complimentary chips and salsa. I've never had a bad experience here. I used to stop from time to time at their old location on Cactus in Phoenix a few years ago. Always a good meal there too. There are a lot of Mexican food restaurants to choose from here in Maricopa county, so I do recommend Don Ruben's as one of the better places. read more

The food at this restaurant is good. My issue is with the owner. I ordered a chicken taco salad and the tortilla was undercooked when the owner brought me a new taco shell. He put his hand on my shoulder when he gave it to me. We were in a booth at some point while we were sitting there he came up behind me without saying anything put his hand on the middle of my back and rubbed on me. This is completely unacceptable touch a woman without her approval. Especially in the manner that he did it. I'm in town visiting family for the weekend and my little brother wanted Mexican food for dinner. We decided to check out Don Ruben's since it was on our way to our family's house. The food was pretty solid overall. The chips and salsa were refreshing. The tacos and enchilada were tasty and well-seasoned, but the Mexican pizza wasn't that great. Not much flavor. I was surprised that they didn't have hot sauce at the tables or bring you hot sauce for your entrees. Everything came out hot and fresh. The only real letdown was the margarita--it tasted off, not like a margarita should taste. Like it had some weird after taste of dirt or something weird. Service was friendly and the atmosphere was casual and comfortable. This is the SPOT. We wanted just a classic chips and salsa on the table Mexican restaurant and Don Rubens DELIVERED. The salsa was delicious and complimentary. The Diet Coke was crisp and our waiter brought us as many limes as we wanted. I had the steak fajitas and they did not disappoint. The shredded beef was also a hit! This was such a happy find. Ever since I was a kid, I have loved Mexican pizza. Well Don Ruben's has a very tasty one. It's under Botanas. I always get chicken but I'm sure the beef is good too. I love the chips and salsa here. The hot sauce has a good flavor as well especially if you like garlic. The mini chimis are another great comfort food. Love the jalapeño cream cheese it comes with. The fundido loco pizza is also super tasty, and it has the jalepeño cream cheese. I've eaten here a few times by myself as well as with family and the service is always friendly and fast. It's been busy every time but the staff works hard. The dining room is nice and well lit, but still has the beloved Mexican theme. Ordered the caliente burrito, no where in the description did it say it was deep fried, came out looking like the cooks squished it down in the fryer with antoher basket! I'm there to take home. My only problem is that I need handicap parking and there's limited parking available for Restaurant attendees. The complementary not greasy light chips and tasty salsa set the tone that this was going to be good. I so enjoyed my chicken tacos and the rice and refried beans are top quality. This was our 1st time to this Do Ruben's, it was AWESOME!! I remember when I was a kid, about 47 years ago my parents used to take us to a Don Ruben's in Glendale on Thunderbird ave A LOT. It was great back then, lots of family memories!! The manager said it was the same family owners. We got there about 4:30 and they were very busy. The food was amazing! Erika was our waitress and she did a fabulous job, she was on top of everything! The bathrooms were clean. The prices were very reasonable $35, 2 meals including 1 alcoholic beverage. We were able to order within 5 to7 minutes of being there. They were on it. The service was amazing the chips and salsa were really tasty too. My wife and I both ordered the green cheese enchiladas. They were really great. She had chicken I had beef. Doesn't matter bother were perfect. We always have the best meal at this place! We've been regulars since their time at 43rd and Cactus and truly nothing has changed since they moved. A chicken burro or the shrimp tortilla soup are my favorite go-tos. My husband loves the Blake tacos and the tomatillo sauce that comes with them. We were looking for a new Mexican restaurant to try while celebrating my nieces recent high school graduation. Id never noticed this place before and had been in this same parking lot in the past at a few other food spots. I was please when we arrived to be greeted right away and that they had an available table for the five of us. Our server was friendly, took our drink order and left us to review the menu. We quickly ordered the spinach queso as well as the bean dip off their appetizer menu. I'm glad we also had the chips and salsa because the appetizers both came with flour chips which are horrible in my opinion. So we used the tortilla chips instead. I do wish the salsa was a bit spicier than salty. Both dips were delicious, but i really enjoyed the jalapeno cream cheese mixture in the bean dip. We ordered many different items for our main course from shredded beef tacos, carne asada taco plate, enchiladas etc. I loved, loved, loved the flavor of the green sauce on my chicken enchilada. My beef taco was a bit dry, but toppings etc were great. The bean tostada that came with the meal as well was tasty and beans had good flavor. The portions were good size and we did have to take some leftovers home. Pricing was amazing honestly. I cant remember the last time we ate anywhere with meals this large for under fifteen bucks. I think margaritas are $4 during happy hour. They also offer hot and mild salsa also a plus for us. I like mild my husband loves hot.
