Met some friends for taco Tuesday. I've driven past this little divey hole in the wall restaurant for years and never stopped. Seating inside is limited but they do have a outside patio for when the weather is nice. No table service. You order at the counter and they call your number when your food is ready. A small free basket of warm chips when eating in, with a self service salsa bar with about six different red and green sauces and pickled jalapeños. They do sell margaritas and bottled beer, a step up from a old school Berto boys. Beers reasonably priced. $4.95 for imports and $4.50 for domestic beers. Took about 15 minutes for our food. One Carne Asada burrito and one Carnitas burrito. Food is served in styrofoam plates and tableware is plastic. Burritos are a little smaller than average Mexican restaurant burritos, but then again they were only $11.55 each. Meat seasoned in both nicely with fresh made guacamole. Nothing from a bag or container here. Carnitas had pieces of the crispy ends that I love. If I would have had a touch more pico and a little more meat and this burrito would have been awesome! Restrooms in need of attention. Overall it was a solid 3.5 dining experience. $32 for two burritos and two beers. Definitely will return. Friends flautas looked amazing. read more

I've been passing this place for years and I see the signs for best margaritas and signs for tacos, well finally decided to try it. I'm very disappointed for the price you pay for the tacos I expected better. The street tacos are small, which I knew they would but the tiny slab of meat on them, how can you call it a taco?! For the same size street tacos with more meat, I can get them for the same price or even cheaper at other places I know. Also there was one salsa that I can tell was old, the moment I bit into the tomato it had the canned expired taste to it. Service was good. The place was clean. Do not judge a book by its cover. This may look well seasoned on the outside, but it is full of good food and people on the inside. Today we were passing by after an adventure at Cerreta's. This is a location we usually visit during the Christmas season after walking around old Town enjoying the festive lights. Being celiac, the girls picked out a gluten free cheese crisps. Rather than one large flour tortilla, they give you 4 small corn tortillas. Very thoughtful. They had rice on the side. I had the chicken taquitos special with beans no cheese. Everything was cooked perfect. The taquitos can be tricky not to over crisp, but they were not over done. Service was great. read more

They actually use 2 flour tortillas for the burro, takes up the entire aluminum tin with lettuce tomatoes and sauce. The place is a hidden gem. Use to live down the street and we'd always get Mexican food here. Everything I've tried has been good. We ate here recently and I got the Grande Caramba (?). It wasn't bad, but I didn't love it. It felt like it was missing something, and the flavor of the sauce it was smothered in didn't seem to go with the burrito. I liked the fresh salsa bar - we liked all the sauces we tried. Everything was bad today. Went in to place an order to go. There was 1 person ahead of me and only 2 people in the restaurant. I waited over 20 minutes only to find out they never put in my order. I replaced my order and I should have checked it before leaving. The chicken enchilada was old and the side of guacamole was brown. The chicken taco was wrong too. Every Carambas location is great, this is the one by my house. I go in and eat there because they have the Best maragaritas! I don't use uber, and then complain my food is cold. ***Caramba just lost a customer of 10+years*** *** We have been patronizing Caramba for over 10 years; we have brought friends and family from out of town to eat here, ordered large meals for celebrations, and ordered from there several times each week*** ***The first time in 10 years that we had a problem with our order and management refused to fix it*** ***Horrible Customer Service Experience*** On 12/22 we ordered my birthday dinner from Caramba. It cost $70. All the food was great, as usual, EXCEPT for two items: the chicken fundido barely had any sauce and was dry and the chile relleno didn't taste right. I ate about half of my fundido because I was starving but my wife ate none of her relleno. Since we had company over, we decided to call Caramba the next day to deal with the issue. On 12/23, my wife stopped by Caramba with the food to explain the situation. The 1st person said "you ate all of it" and refused to even listen to my wife. He got his manager, who was even worse. He didn't even open her container of UNEATEN food, nor did he even try to identify and correct the issue. He told my us "we've been making these for xx years", "what happened, did you get full and then decide to come back for more?" and "do you know how many of these we sell a week?" And he kept going back to "you ate all of it" (which is untrue) and "why didn't you bring it back yesterday?" My wife was getting upset as she was being berated by these two. Finally the manager said "call the owner, John" and gave us his number. My wife called the number and got another Caramba. She spoke to the manager, Oscar, who listened to the issue and said he would have John call us on 12/24. 12/24 came and went. No call. I called Oscar's store back on 12/26 and started by speaking to a young lady who asked which items I had the issue with. As I was answering her question, a man came on the phone and said "This is Ralph, the manager! You ate your food!" and that he "can't" do anything for me. I could barely get a word in edgewise. I finally was able to say "are you even going to listen to what I have to say?" All Ralph could do was go back to the fact that I waited till the next day to let them know about the issue and that we ate "all the food" (once again, untrue). Disgusted, I told Ralph the he lost a customer of 10+ years and hung up. Today is 12/27 and I have still not heard from anyone, yet we gave our phone numbers to three different people. I don't care if you've been making this food for 35 or whatever years. You messed up and couldn't own up to it. For anyone at Caramba's who is reading this, do the math: 3x a week at $10 a visit. Minimum of 5x a year at $70 a visit = $1,910 annually, on average, that you just lost because you chose to argue about $20 in food and insult your long time customers. read more

We have been coming to this location for almost 30 years. We met the owners at the location upon one of our early visits and we've been frequent visitors here on a weekly basis. Live not 5 minutes from this location, but no matter where we were at in greater Phoenix, we'd go to Carambas/Glendale downtown location. We absolutely love the folks behind the counter and have gotten to know all of them over the years. Now, however, we won't be back as we found out this week at our latest visit they changed their tortillas - they no longer have the thin crispy tortillas for their tacos (our favorite item from them). The tortillas were replaced by a thick, yellow corn tortilla that was soaked with grease. This is our 2nd visit since they changed and we can't go back - tortillas bothered our stomachs and taste of the product was totally gone. We hated to leave them, but the choice by the owners (per the counter employees) was to change the tortillas due to price. Sorry folks - we're gone. :-( read more

Caramba's is... like a male and female God birthed a bar tender and gave them powers to make the Lord's Margarita. Best Margarita you ever had in your life for a better price than you could imagine. What's not to love? Caramba is my go to for a fast casual Mexican food meal. I got the Bean Burro Enchilada style with green sauce and I was in heaven. The burrito was huge and oozing with stretchy cheese goodness. I usually get the red sauce but not disappointed by the creamy mild green sauce. My husband always loves the enchiladas. And how can we live without Taco Tuesday and their lip smacking margaritas. Great value! And everything is served on a real plate- as opposed to paper. Love the outdoor patio. I highly recommend this company. The food and the service is excellent each time I go. I'm on a gluten-free diet and some things are not gluten-free but are custom-made to become gluten-free for me upon request and at a reasonable price for the portion. The previous time I ate here was like 13-14 years ago. I think this was the only location at that time. I had a spinach enchilada and a fish taco. I had already been introduced to 'bertos around the valley. Because they use 8" instead of 10" tortillas for their enchiladas I thought I didn't get enough for my money and they used cilantro, which I do not care for, in their fish taco. I removed this place from my list of lunch spots near work. The other evening eating at Stir Fry Paradise I noticed quite a few customers at the Caramba next door. So I looked up the reviews for all the locations and didn't see any red flags. And Korina A doesn't care for cilantro either and she made no mention of it in her review. So I tried it out again for lunch. This time eating in instead of sending someone for take out. I got the combination #4 (see picture), shredded beef taco, cheese enchilada, rice, beans ($6.65) and a small horchata. Total with tax: $8.54.It is still about a dollar more than a 'bertos and the enchiladas are still smaller. But it gets better. The meal comes with a bowl of fresh chips. There is a salsa bar with fresh made salsas instead of inedible hot sauce. They use the next grade up of cheddar cheese. The enchilada sauce is better. The beans and rice are a little better. And I can no longer eat all of a 'bertos combo any more anyway :-) I just barely finished this one. It was a perfect day for the patio. Being on the North side of the building I can see it getting hot at midday even with the umbrellas during the summer. It is still a fast food Mexican place but one that is worth a little more. It is now back on my list of places to go. read more

I've been eating here for several years. The food is always consistent and quality. The salsa is fresh and they have several choices. Their beans are great even though they don't use any lard, the same for the tortillas. They offer wheat tortillas as a healthier option which actually are good. I have had several dishes off their menu and have never had anything I didn't like. I would definitely recommend the mexican pizza. Its a lot of food and can be split between two adults. If you are looking for a healthier option, the salpicon salad is awesome. I prefer it with shredded beef. It comes served over a tostada shell smeared with beans, romaine lettuce, cucumbers, crumbled cheese, sour cream and guacamole. I give this place 4 stars because the bathrooms at this location are small and a little janky. They have outdoor seating, which is nice. A couple of the guys that have worked here for years recognize me and my family and greet us every time we go here. A great, healthier alternative to the common "bertos." read more

I usually end up having the same order every time because we know it's going to be exactly what we want. 2 cheese enchiladas, a bean and cheese burrito, and a combo with a tostada and taco. They're the only restaurant around me that can get the cheese in the enchiladas melted completely. Which you wouldn't think would be that difficult. Definitely give them a try. read more

This used to be our favorite, go to, fast, cheap and good mexican restaurant. I say used to be, because the last 4-5 times we have gone it wasn't the same. Messed up orders, WAY over salted shrimp and beef so bad you couldn't eat it. Margaritas have changed as well, tastes like they have gone to a mix. Because we have been regulars for so long we will probably give it 1 or 2 more chances, but they are on a short leash. Seems to me maybe management has changed and they are cutting corners. AWE.......the original Caramba's, feels like home. This location does not have a bar area like some of the other locations, but I have been eating here for 8 years and it is my favorite location. The staff is always super nice and the food is always out nice and quick. In the few minutes you have to wait before your food is ready you can take advantage of the salsa bar. They give you the chips, you pick your salsa, or pico. The beef chimi comes with sour cream and guacamole and until I have one here I don't like, I will keep ordering it. I have had there tacos several times as well and they are also very good. I don't like the 25 cent refills but other then that I can not say enough good stuff about Caramba's. read more
