The food is always great here. They are friendly and fast. I had a bowl recently and it was delicious.

Dude. This restaurant is amazing! I am OBSESSED with the Stelote burrito (steak and elotes!) The steak is always cooked perfectly and I've literally never had any issues with the food. I LOVE their flour tortilla chips (almost like pita chips but so much better), the red pepper salsa, and their pineapple salsa. This place is a no brainer, definitely 10/10! read more

These tacos were fire! At first glance, it's hard to see why street-sized tacos would be nearly $5 each, but after eating them, I can safely say that the flavor in the meat is the selling point. My favorites were the barbacoa and steak; the fish was ok, but the cream in the taco tasted like honey, which overpowered the entire taco's flavor. Also, while they are street taco sized, they provide an ample amount of meat, so it's very filling; I felt full with just 2 of them. The burritos looked to be larger versions of the tacos with a few more toppings. Service was nice, and they get people in and out quickly. Great spot for later night eats, but not too late, as they close around 11p on the weekends. read more

We used to love the food here. What happened ??? We ordered 2 chicken burritos and they were horrible ! The chicken was so dry , it was inedible. Delicious!! Tried the Burrito Clucker ? (With chicken) and the steak burrito with elote. Both were very tasty and flavorful. Meat was fresh and cooked right in the front of me. Incredibly surprised the rating isn't higher. Love this small business and its delicious burritos. All this deliciousness at a quick, no-nonsense service. Been here 5x and have recommended it 10x. Everyone I know has loved it. I like that the burritos are packed with meat and ingredients. Pleasant surprises: My favorite is "A Fish Called William" burrito - the combination of the crusted tilapia, cabbage, and avocado was perfect. I usually prefer steak over chicken or fish but the creamy tequila sauce is unrivaled. And no, it does not leave a residual fishy taste. I also enjoyed the Mother Clucker which was replete with tender chicken. I think this burrito had more than enough onion and cilantro though. I'm not a salad bowl person, but I did love the crispy flour tortilla shell. Recommendations: Try the Steak Fajita which is filled with an array of peppers and mushrooms. It comes with a roasted red pepper sauce which I ask for on the side to prevent my burrito from getting too soggy. And mix this up with the A Fish Called William for a balanced meal. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER VIA MANAGER ALLISON!! Ordered 10 meals for company luncheon, for pickup. Carbon failed to include 4 sides of guacamole although it was on the receipt. Called the manager and she felt it was necessary to be disrespectful, unprofessional and condescending. Great food, poor customer service! read more

Things have definitely changed. Remember I try carbon when they first open way back years ago. I was the second customer that came in. The first thing I ever ate was the fidh burrito and it was complemented with a side of elote. It was the best fish burrito I ever ate because it was fried properly and the amazing lime sauce that was dripping. Now, it taste like a rubber piece of fish and scales due to the huge amount of cabbage that was stuffed in. The sauce tasted different and things aren't even what their used to be. So much for happy memories, so much for trying to support your local restaurant during COVID19. Good bye Carbon. read more

I have never been before and was impress with how fast our food came out! The menu was easy to navigate and didn't have an overwhelming amount of options We got chips and salsa to start with. We did a mix chip basket (flour and corn chips). The flour chips were gross in my opinion. Almost soggy. The salsa was nothing to rave about. Just good salsa. My husband order a chicken burrito and I ordered a chicken burrito bowl salad. Both were great. The chicken had a good flavor. I would say if you're in this area and you need a quick good lunch, this could be the place. read more

I have been to this location a few times and ordered occasionally a few times. They are pretty quick when you come to the location, but delivery typically takes around an hour or more. The food is good. I like the chips and guacamole. The mixed chips (flour and corn mix) offers a tasty variety if you're sharing it with someone and you don't know which chip you might like. My favorite taco is the tortilla encrusted tilapia taco with the toquilla lime sauce. It is so delicious I typically only need two to fill me up. The reason why they lost a star. They can run out of some of the items on the menu and do not post a sign to let anyone know or you place the order online and 30 minutes into the order you get a call the item is out. They seem popular and busy all the time. I have occasionally place delivery orders and once they messed up the order where they did not put cheese on my taco. The manager quickly refunded me my items after I sent him a photo of the taco with no cheese. This place typically has a booth at the taste of Chicago so if your visiting in the summer check them out there. read more

I drove by a few times and every time I can smell grilling and finally traced that to Carbon. Fairly small diner, you order up and they give you a number stand, you find a seat either at the counter or tables both area's are limited. They call the number and you pick up the food. No fuss or mess. I ordered 3 fish taco's and two beef - around $21. The fish was overly fried, I was expecting lightly grilled not totally fried, as for the steak, nice chucks but limited dressing. This is unfortunately some of the most terrible Mexican food I have ever had in my entire life. We got chorizo tacos and chicken tacos both which were lackluster. The chorizo tastes like dolphin meat or some weird meat I have no clue it was definitely not chorizo. Wow. Everything about our experience here was great. We placed a pick up order and from the time they answered the phone we were impressed. Since it was our first time ordering from Carbon we had some questions about the menu and the gentleman taking our order was incredibly patient, cheerful, and so helpful. He had great customer service skills and made the ordering process a breeze. Once we got to the restaurant to pick up our order every single staff member was cheerful and every single one had great customer service. Now the food... The best elote I have had from a restaurant! Perfectly creamy and just the right amount of spice. The rice and beans were also very good. The homemade salsas were wonderful. We tried every one and somehow every one was better than the last. They were each so unique and so delicious. Now to the main course.... Lomo taco- The steak was incredible and the caramel used onions added a great flavor. Steak taco- The steak on this was also incredible. Such a great grilled flavor. Stelote burrito- Wow. I will definitely be getting this again. And again. The steak and elote combines to create an incredible flavor and one of the best burritos I have ever had. Steak Burrito- A great simple burrito. Their steak is amazing and wrapped in that soft flour tortilla it's everything I could want. In summary, the customer service was too notch and the food was outstanding. I've had catering from Carbon about 4 or 5 times and it never disappoints. I love that they provide both flour and corn tortillas. They do a great job with the chicken, beef, fish, and grilled veggies. In the spring, I had Carbon cater an event I hosted for my high school students. Not only was there an ample amount of food to feed these hungry teenagers, but the kids were able to bring leftovers home! The maragrita lime sauce is so underrated and my absolute favorite taco sauce topping of all time. The pineapple salsa is not-to-be-missed as well! read more

Really good street tacos with a higher end vibe. They use a great corn tortilla, most likely hand made, with delicious steak and onions. The chips and salsa are quite unique. They offer a chips mix of flour and corn. I'm not used to the flour chips, but I think they may be better with the guacamole. The hot sauce that they serve is quite hot, but well worth it. They have very nice art work on the outside, but it is under the viaduct for 90/94. Although, the outside patio was still very nice. read more

I've been ordering food from here for the past 2 years through GrubHub. Delivery has been so far consistent, the order is almost always correct and the delivery arrives within the scheduled time. My order is basically always the same. I never skip out on the Elote (3.75$ for a large) and my main course is always the Burrito Salad Bowl (9.95$ plus extras). The Elote is creamy and delicious, however, it's not as spicy as I'd like it to be, but I always ask for extra spice when I order it. I always opt for the vegetarian burrito salad bowl only because I don't like how they cook their meat. I've had it with chicken before, but the chicken was extremely chewy and inedible. Cheese , guacamole and sour cream are extras, and you can't really have a burrito without them, but the entire salad bowl totals to about 11.70$. I feel like the price is really good for what you get. The burrito salad bowl is huge and I always end up saving the rest of it for lunch or dinner the next day. Last night, I ordered Carbon for dinner, however, they forgot to add my sour cream and guacamole even though I paid for them, so here's to 4 stars. Till next time! read more

Had them years ago and decided to go back only to find a strand of hair in my burrito all I can think of at this very moment is how many strands have I eaten considering I ate it in the dark of my bedroom. Took the hair in the the light... Density and hair texture is not mine and it was wrapped inside. I unfolded it to pull everything together and the strand was unraveling as I open it with the meat. No we never know what we're going to eat when eating out but damn. Disappointed cause it was really good. No I'm not going to take it back for a refund... just Note to self. I have had contact with Carbon via their delivery service in the west loop, but until I stumbled on to their "live grill" I did not know this place existed. What an oasis of cool. The food is good and plentiful and it appears their carry out is where they make their money because there are only 5 tables and an equal number of crowded counter seats. Not a comfortable place to eat, especially in Chicago during the winter; when the door opens the entire "dining area" gets blasted with the cold. I had the "A Fish Called William", tilapia in a tortilla, while my girlfriend had "The Mother Clucker",chicken and tequila-lime in a tortilla. Both were very good, but their guacamole, that we purchased as a side, is to die for. I would return for the guacamole alone. read more

I was so happy to finally get to Carbon after trying the fish tacos at the Taste last summer. Carbon was really good! I loved the steak burrito, the chips and my tilapia taco. Everything was piping hot and tasted fresh. Carbon is quite small and has the ambiance of an urban taqueria, which is what it is. I grew up in this neighborhood and I've been coming to Carbon since they opened. A tiny spot under the over pass of the express way and down the street from the mighty Ricobenes. The house specialty is the tequila lime marinated chicken breast. Beit a taco or burrito ( I'm loyal to the mammoth Mother Clucker Burrito) this thing is seriously packed full of the most delicious above mentioned chicken. Fire grilled and just an orgy of flavor. I add cheese and onions- comes with cilantro standard. It's juicy , its filling , you get a ton of it , and its freaking delicious. Now, I've had the fired grill steak , also just outstanding, the Fish Called William ( breaded tilapia) which is also just delicious. They have added Barbacoa, Chirizo, and fire roasted veggies. I usually get carbon via grub hub delivery... so this is for delivery only. I usually order a burrito or the steak and fish tacos. The burritos are pretty much always on point, not a lot of complaints there, I usually get the mother clucker and ask for no tequila lime sauce and they always get it right. The burrito itself is super good, lots of chicken, moist and satisfying. The tacos are also very good but usually when specifying no sauce or cheese on the tacos it is usually wrong.. Well let me just say, Chicago's best on WGN had this location on their show. Hence the reason for my travels. My wife and I tend to follow some of their reviews to see if some of these locations are as good as they say. We've had our goods and our bads with their choices. For example is this location. They raved about the Mother Clucker on how much chicken is in this burrito and give you the assumption that it is delicious. My wife and I had our own opinions on that. The Mother Clucker was not all it is cracked up to be. The chicken was kinda dry. And some pieces reminded me of one of those Chinese fast food locations that give you that chicken to where they are not concerned about what you think. On the other hand, The steak fajita burrito did put my taste buds into Curiosity mode. I found myself finishing the whole thing. The horchata was your typical horchata. The salsa was fresh and you could taste it. The staff., Friendly. Can I see myself going out of my way to come back here and dine again?., No. wasn't really impressed enough. I ordered the chicken burrito. It was really good! I think it's a nice step above chipotle. It's not a traditional taco and burrito place. My friend got the steak burrito bowl. It's an actual tortilla bowl as compared to chipotle burrito bowl which is in a paper bowl. One weird thing, they put carrots and peas in the burrito. Ask for tequila sauce on the side! Journeyed to this place while at a conference at McCormick place. I roughed it out and walked to Carbon. It was a little bit of a walk, but nothing too crazy. Upon arrival, I was shocked at how small the restaurant was; however, it was a nice day and there was plenty of seating outside. We ordered and went to sit outside. The food came out pretty quick. I was hot and plentiful!! There was so much chicken inside. While the place is nothing to look at, the food is good and the people are friendly.
