I ordered these on a whim one night when I didn't feel like cooking and haven't looked back since. That was about 12 months ago (Jan 2023). Since then, De Pasada has been a weekly staple in my household. It was certainly more convenient when they were on DoorDash, but them no longer offering delivery hasn't stopped my craving. I pretty much order the same thing each time: an order of guac--fantastic and made fresh daily--2 pastor tacos, 2 carne asada tacos, and horchata. It is always still warm by the time I get home, always seasoned perfectly, and overflowing with meat. I've also eaten at the establishment a few times. The staff is always kind and service is quick. The dining area is that have your typical, local family owned taco joint in Chicago. Besides, you're there for the food, not the overpriced ambiance. Tacos are reasonably priced as well. Although their guac and salsas are amazing, I can't in good faith recommend their chips. They always taste a bit burnt or stale. So I order the guac and use store bought. Not a big deal. I love the lady that works here. Shes so warm and happy ahaha. My go to are the al pastor and lengua tacos like you see pictured. Ive also tried the carne asada and a gordita. Everything here is great, classic taco shop with flavorful meats. Everything is well seasoned and I appreciate the simple cilantro and onion toppings. While it doesn't have anything unique that separates it from other great taco places, it just got the basics done right. Ain't nothing wrong with that! read more

Good steak tacos! I came in for lunch and ordered 3 steak tacos. $3.00 each I believe. The service was pleasant. The steak meat used was grade A. The place was also clean. My issue with them is I prefer red sauce over the green that they automatically give you w/out asking you what your preference is. 1st off, I'm allergic to green peppers which I'm sure the green sauce is made with. So I had to pay $2.00 for red salsa. NOT COOL!!!! I'll go back, but I'm definitely going to advise them that this is absurd. It was normal size and very pricey for its size. $9.75 is an outrageous price for the burrito I received despite how good it was. The burrito came with rice, beans, cheese, sour cream and guacamole. Is also came with lettuce and tomato, but I always order it without. I personally feel that it makes the burrito too watery, and tastes too "salady". The lengua was good and I felt it came with plenty of meat. Another thing that through me off, was that they only offer green salsa. No red salsa at all? That ended up being a huge mistake, because I feel played after paying $30 for two bland steak burritos. These burritos were border line disrespectful considering that they put barely any meat in the burrito, and the meat that they did put in it was bland and fatty. The rice, beans, and guacamole were also bland. They should be embarrassed for calling this Mexican food and serving it to the public. This is truly a Kitchen nightmare, and although Karen says there chicken tacos are good I will not be going back and getting played by them again. The food here is always spot on, prices are affordable, menu is varied, and the salsa-I could drink it by the gallon. I ordered the combination platter that came with steak and chile relleno and the flavor it packed really surprised me. I can taste that the steak they use is fresh, they season it lightly so the meat flavor still comes through, and they give you a generous portion. This was my first time trying the chile relleno and I polished it off in under a minute. A beautifully roasted pepper with no bitterness stuffed with a light cheese and covered in a thick batter (more like a corn dog than a breadcrumb situation). The food here is very good but I am more impressed with De Pasada owner Manuel (We-Me) Espinoza who is the founder and runs this place like a father teaching his kids, with patience. He is very hands on, We-Me is known to teach new employees how to run the cash register, prepare foods as well as interacting with customers. He tells me "if you don't train these people right from the start they will ruin your business". So when you try the amazing steak burritos and steamed beef tacos please ask to see We-Me and tell him "Muy Bueno We-Me !", as he always likes to hear from his customers. Found this location via search and it turned out to be great. It can be easily missed from Taylor street but well worth a stop in. They have a pretty big menu with a lot of different options, even an entire vegetarian section. There were a decent amount of people inside, mainly UIC students, but the food came out very quickly. I've been to De Pasada a few times, but I guess I always end up forgetting to write this up. This is one of my few goto quick and dirty authentic Mexican joints. Nothing fancy, but just good stuff. Today, I asked for a veggie burrito with the add of chile relleno. I think I saw them thaw out a frozen chile, but they did do this for me as it's not something on the menu. I've had the chile relleno version at another one of my fave places and thought I'd give it a shot here. Not the best... But it was good. The burrito comes with all the good stuff including rice, beans, cheese, sour cream, avocado, lettuce, tomatoes, etc. I went with the normal size and not super size and thought it was more than enough food; I ate half of one of those. I also had a tostada, which was decent. With beans as the base, it was flavorful. Again, probably not the best I've had, but I enjoyed the food. If you eat in you get some chips and really good sauces while you wait for your food. Always a nice touch. The drinks are in a refrigerator, so canned come, etc. Will continue to visit De Pasada... This was my go-to spot for tacos during grad school (8 years ago!!) and I still come back now and then. I always get the same thing, 1 steak taco and 1 chicken taco with onions and cilantro. The steak is seasoned well and their chicken taco is one of the best I've had. Their shredded chicken is always tender and moist. Make sure to pour on some of their salsa verde. Their horchata is really good, too. It's not too thick and I like when I can feel the little granules of rice. I usually water it down a little since it's usually to sweet for my palate. We dined in for the first time and ordered tacos de carne asada and a torta de carne asada. Both were super delicious! The carne asada is flavorful and soooo tender, it's hard to find places like these. Red salsa was amazing along with the crispy chips they serve when you sit. We had horchata and it was really good! If you are in the area I totally recommend checking De Pasada out! A friend of mine told me about this place and had only good things to say. I ordered the Chile Relleno Dinner (see photo) and My boyfriend ordered the Steak Quesadillas. After placing our order we were given complimentary Chips and Salsas (red/green) which I loved! I loved the green salsa so much and went through it so quickly without hesitation our waitress brings over another serving - and this second serving of salsa made my dinner plate even better! My boyfriend enjoyed his meal and I was pleasantly surprised by mine! I should mention that after ordering I initially thought my meal wouldn't be enough food to fill me up and boy was I wrong! My dinner plate came with about 6 (maybe more) corn tortillas and I used each one, one by one, making myself Chile Relleno tacos - each packed with rice/beans/lettuce/guac/salsa!! It came to a point where my boyfriend was halfway through his meal and I wasn't close to finishing 1 Chile Relleno (the plate came with 2). To say the least, you definitely get a bang for your buck! Overall if you are in the area and are looking for something outside the American/Italian spread De Pasada won't disappoint! I should mention that I am a Vegetarian and I was very pleased to see that they totally cater to vegetarians, they have a pretty big menu with all sorts of options! Their Mexican food is okay. But they are not very consistent with the quality. I've been here many many times now. My favorite dish is lengua (tongue) taco and fish taco. But sometimes the fish taco can be overcooked. I've tried their beef taco but again sometime it can be too salty or overcooked. I would give them five stars if only Pilsen is not nearby.
