Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Prices are very competitive. However, PBC's attempts to add unnecessary services didn't sit with me well. They told me I needed an oil change almost 2,000 miles before the 7,500 mile requirement for my vehicle. Additionally, they claimed my vehicle wouldn't pass state inspection without the installation of new brake pads. I have never had lousy customer service in my life. The only reason I am giving this establishment two stars is because of the discount I received. I arrived around 9:45 am. The employee, Ruy, told me I was supposed to be there at 8 am. Days prior, my fiancee called to schedule an appointment and told me to come in the morning and drop off the car. About fifteen minutes later, I received a call from Ruy. He said the service would take longer because they needed an additional part that was not coming in until around 2 pm. I said, "ok, fine." Ruy told me that with the additional part and labor, my total would be $473, and the car SHOULD be ready by 4:30 pm. I texted him at 4:37 pm to inquire about the status. The message showed as being "read." I waited a bit longer and sent a follow-up text a little after 5. I did not hear anything back. So, I called Ruy's cell phone and the business' landline. No one answered either. I arrived around 5:26 pm. That was 34 mins before they were set to close. An employee headed to his car stopped and informed me they had closed early. I attempted to converse with the gentleman. However, his English vocabulary was limited. I called Ruy's cell phone numerous times. And when someone answered, it was clear that the person was drunk. The person proceeded to tell me to "suck his cock." He said he had a big one and that I would like it. Ruy called back, and it was clear he, too, was inebriated. He apologized on behalf of his friend and told me he would be at the shop in 20 mins. I had been waiting in the hot sun for an hour when he arrived. The work was not finished. He and I exchanged heated words; he said he didn't get a text or have an Android. He showed me his phone as proof. However, the phone was a Samsung. I explained that iPhone texts to an Android do not produce read receipts. He then tells me that I owe him about $566. I asked how it went from $473 to $566. He claimed he never told me that was the total. After another argument, he dropped to price to $388. He paid me a few thinly veiled compliments and told me to return for future service. I will not be returning. The disrespect, lack of communication, drunkenness, and forever-changing prices left me in utter disgust. Take your car elsewhere. read more

I wanted to make sure my niece's car was tuned up for this coming school year. Everything was completed very efficiently. Very disappointed with the customer service at PBC. I made an appointment with Chris (the owner) days in advance for a simple oil change. When I arrived at the agreed upon time, he wasn't even there. Another shop attendant then proceeds to tell me their bay is full and it was impossible to accommodate my appointment. He did not even attempt to offer any help or escalate the issue. This was the second time that they did not honor my time, and wasted my mileage and fuel to boot. =================================== Update: The owner, Chris, noticed my feedback and called me to explain his side of the situation. I will just say that he ran into some difficult circumstances and had to be away from the shop, and he offered to perform the oil change free of charge to rectify their mistake. I told him that while I empathized with his situation, the service mishandling goes beyond him being there and it's difficult to consider giving another chance, but I appreciate the call and it indicates that they genuinely try to make it work. read more

Without a doubt the best car shop experience of my life. The first time in years it hasn't felt like the mechanics are just trying to jerk you around I bought an NB Miata from them a few weeks ago as a project car after seeing it listed online. When I came in to see Ruy about it there was no pressure or sales crap, just take it for a spin, let us know how you like it, here's all the fun things we've already done to it. Having just dealt with a shady dealer a week before, it was a breath of fresh air and I came back the next day with cash in hand ready to buy. And they're enthusiastic and knowledgeable about Miatas so I look forward to working with them in the future. When picking up the car, we noticed an odd bolt missing in the roof frame that Christian said he'd take a look at, and in all my excitement about buying the car I forgot to follow up. Fast forward to now and I was reminded of the problem when the top wouldn't go down all the way. I called and they were happy to have me come in and take a look, and when Christian remembered the bolt from the sale, he immediately had his guys to work getting it taken care of. And even after what ended up being an hour or two to drill out the old sheared bolt and replace it, he wouldn't even charge me for the trouble. Solid class act guys. Had a Hard Dog Roll Bar installed in my MX-5 Miata, along with leaking oil. Work was well done, estimates were very close. Roll bar was simple, oil leak turned out to be a incorrectly installed timing belt. Was given updated estimates and updated when new things turned up. Really nice owner, worked hard on the car and clearly loved that it was an enthusiast car. The not great, but not horrible. It's a small shop and it was kinda difficult to know when my vehicle would actually be finished. I showed up and nobody had any clue I was dropping off my car even though I spoke with a tech over the phone the previous day. When picking up my car the receptionist also seemed to imply they had no clue I was showing up despite several conversations on the phone. This wasn't a huge issue but it was a small annoyance on an otherwise perfect visit. I will be using them for future Flying Miata upgrades and performance work. read more

The shop is clean, the service excellent, and the ownership eager to please if you have questions or any special requests. I noticed my wife's Highlander Limited 4WD V6, which is a great car, in great shape, was at 123,000 miles, and I know that 120,000 is an important service, so I knew it had to go in somewhere soon. I was close to taking it to the dealer, but then I reflected on the bad experiences I've had with dealerships missing things, suggesting work that I knew was unnecessary (for instance brakes that I'd just had done elsewhere only a month before), and doing shoddy work. So I called PBC and set up an appointment. They've done good work on my Toyota Tacoma, Honda S2000, and my Miata with great results The work was done on time, and they documented the work and retained the old spark plugs for me to see. Case in point about the dealer (in this case Koons Tysons): We had the 60,000 mile service done there, and spark plugs is one of the REPLACE items. On this 120K service, PBC discovered that two of the spark plugs were different and significantly more worn than the other four. They were the two hardest get to (see my note above about this), so guess what? The tech at the dealer had clearly replaced only four, skipping the two hard ones that take the most time, and charged me the full price (which is something like 5 hours in the book). I have a lot of experience working on cars myself over the years as a hobby, so I know a good tech when I see one and understand how things function and what it takes to do certain repairs. I'm very particular about cleanliness and precision, which PBC always delivers in spades. They even washed the car and vacuumed it out before returning it, which it really needed, but I didn't ask for. read more

I went to PBC Automotive last Wednesday to ask if they had a 2 inch hole saw and could cut an insert for "top hats" or in other words extended strut mounts. The owner said of course. He quoted $471 to install top hats, a speed sensor and replace an o ring in the cars distributor. I drop the car off at 9am on Friday, they call me at 11am because they don't know how to use the original rubber bushings with the new top hats. They also mention having to buy the proper tools to do the job because they did not have them. I call the manufacturer of the top hats and tell them to call the mechanic. The manufacturer calls them and talks for 30 minutes to explain how to install the top hats. I check on the car at 6pm, the owner says they installed the speed sensor and o ring, tells me he is going to change me two extra hours and I can pick the car up the next day. I get to the shop 12pm on Saturday, no speed sensor was installed because they need to replace the heater hose and can't find one. On top of that, my strut was bent but they reinstalled it anyway. The mechanic tells me I am going to need to replace it soon. I complained but paid them $571 to get my car out of their shop. Keep in mind, the original price of just installing the top hats $295. I go outside and look at my car, my hood is crooked because the mechanic didn't check the clearance of the strut tower. The mechanic has an attitude and says he thought the car's hood sat that way because it is a 1991. They have cars from the 60's in the parking lot that are straight, he's clearly trying to piss me off. I ask him to shave a few cm off the strut tower to get the hood to fit, he shaves the whole top of the strut off. I tell him that I didn't ask him to do that and his reply was "I know I did that because you are irritating me, I told you I could of cut the hood.". This guy never said a thing about cutting the hood. Now my hood is damaged, and both of my struts are damaged. The speed sensor I need to pass inspection was never installed. Their customer service was horrible, no one called me to state they needed another strut to install or a heater hose to install the speed sensor. My overall experience with PBC Automotive was horrible. Beware of taking your car here, they do not respect other people's things or take pride in their work. read more

I recently had PBC do a significant amount of work to my car, and am writing this review after having my car back for two weeks. First off, I have a 1991 Mazda Miata and prior to being towed to PBC it had been sitting in my parking lot for about 9 months. Secondly, PBC performed a substantial amount of work on the car, ranging from replacing the entire valve assembly to brake rebuilds. Patrick and the crew are extremely friendly, and kept me updated throughout the entire process. I even spoke with the Miata mechanic a couple times, and can tell he lives and breathes Miatas. They diagnosed issues, and developed multiple solutions to save me money yet ensure a proper repair was performed. I was impressed with how they handled this extensive rebuild (the quote Patrick emailed me was even divided up into different categories), and updated me on the progress. Two weeks after picking up the car, I have to say I'm thoroughly impressed with the final result. My car runs better than I have ever experienced (I've owned it five years), and I measured my fuel economy at about 27 mpg (mix of city/highway). The car idles great, and there's practically no lifter noise. I highly recommend PBC Automotive, especially if you own a Miata. They provide a professional service, and are honest and reasonable (they even returned the car with a full tank of premium gas!). I will be returning to them to replace the soft top. read more

My buddy can't say enough good things about this place. So when I needed to have new tires installed, I scheduled an appointment. Since this was a workday, I arrived early for my appointment so that I could be on my way as soon as possible. Whatever the reason, they opened up the shop 15 minutes late. I proceeded inside without complaint, explained what I needed done, and handed over the keys. As the only customer there that morning, I was surprised that I had to wait over an hour before my car was returned to me. I never learned why it took so long to have four tires installed, or why business opened late. I hear they are THE place to go if you have a modified Miata. However, I'd say go somewhere that appreciates your business instead. read more

My family and I were in Virginia on a business/family trip. our breaks went out.. started crunching and making awful noises. They needed to be changed. its nerve wrecking when you don't have a place or know anyone in the area. I called back home to my normal mechanic who guided me through what I needed. I did a search for nearby mechanic and found them on Google. It was after the closing time but they answered the phones. Not only were they honest with their pricing, gave us a discount for 1st time customer, but they were also understanding that we were from out of town and had two small children to keep safe in our vehicle. The owner squeezed us in first thing in the morning and changed are brakes and rotors. The other worker (sorry cant remeber name) was also very effecient in explaining to us what was wrong. If we were to move to that area they would probably be my permanent mechanic. read more

I went to PBC automotive to have various things performed: oil change, new catalytic converter (I knew it was bad from having my check engine light scanned previously), and a safety inspection. PBC automotive performed everything efficiently and at a GREAT price. They explained everything to me and went beyond their duties (my hood latch release was broken and they asked if I wanted that repaired as well). They were able to do everything in a timely manner. I dropped my car off thinking it could take a couple days but everything was finished the same day. Next time I will just wait for my car since they have a clean waiting area with a computer & wireless internet to use. The bathroom was also clean which is always a plus at a mechanic shop! The shop is a bit of a hike from where I live (Alexandria) but it's definitely worth the drive! read more

They seem to do good work on miata's and the owner seems pretty knowledgeable about them. I'm not happy with the customer service at all. The manager acts so arrogant while at the same time trying to be your friend. He takes the word condescending to the next level. From reading all the great reviews, I decided to take my audi here for an oil change over a year ago. Big mistake. While waiting, a woman came in and the manager started to go all gaga over her, IN FRONT of other customers waiting for their cars, awkward to the next level. He needs to do that on his own time. On top of that, get this, he pulled out his AR15 gun or whatever to show off. Seriously? Do I need to say any more? PBC is a very stereotypical mechanic shop with rude blue-collar workers and technicians. If you have a miata and need specific work done, then by all means go here. Otherwise I would pay the premium and go to a dealer where at least I know I will be treated with respect. I don't know, I used to live in Vancouver and was never treated in this manner at any auto shop I went to, I hope people in this area aren't all like this. read more

I've found the work to be top notch, with great attention to detail at a reasonable cost. I came in with a self diagnosis and was actually talked out of spending $300 to fix what I thought was the problem. Most places will just take your $ if it's on the table. Came here to get some wheels mounted on my 335i and left with a gleaming set of new rims and satisfaction with a job well done. They mounted four run-flat tires on new rims in about 2.5 hours and even transferred the TPMS sensors. Costco and Target were across the street to kill some time. When I first moved to NOVA around 5 years ago I had a lot of trouble finding an honest mechanic. I would take my car for an oil change and the mechanic would include a laundry list of other items that should be fixed but I knew were fine. It was refreshing when I went to PBC and never had to deal with these type of issues. Whenever there's an issue with my car they provide the details of what's wrong and their suggestions. I've never felt pressure to have something repaired that wasn't absolutely necessary. Most recently, after putting it off for a while, I had a faulty oxygen sensor replaced for my upcoming emissions. I set-up the appointment ahead of time and it only took about an hour as I waited. Everything is running great and my check engine is finally off.
