Just tried carbones for the first time today. I tried the lunch combo of Caesar salad and chicken cutlet. There were no croutons in my salad. The portions are very small. I know I ordered half sizes because of the lunch combo special, but a 4in grinder come on. I can go to suway and get a 6in. The food did taste good but at 12 bucks it's way over priced for what u get. Most Italian restaurants give u a ton of food. Carbones does not. I will spend my hard earned money elsewhere. read more

If you are in the mood to eat and want traditional Italian, head to Carbone's kitchen in Bloomfield on Sunday night. 24.00 for a 4 course family style dinner. We are never disappointed and always have leftovers. The sauce is a traditional Italian sauce (slightly over salted). We started with arancini that was delicious. The Cesar salad was good -make sure you request anchovies although it's listed in the description you don't get them unless requested. We had the veal Marsala as our main course which was tender with a well balanced Marsala sauce. The spinach was perfect. We took the pasta and meatball side and tiramisu dessert home. The offered wines are over priced but getting half price bottles make it a little more reasonable. The staff and clientele are very friendly. I do need to say that the atmosphere is lacking -interior is dark, and it is located in a strip mall in the back of a parking lot. read more

Food is great, we eat here at least 3x/month. I was a bit disappointed though on my last visit, 10/21, when they had the CT restaurants for PR hurricane relief menu. 100% of the proceeds were to go to PR. The menu literally consisted of a martini and cod fish fritters (bacalaitos)..that was it. I should've called and asked what the menu consisted of because I had friends meet us there for dinner all the way from West Haven. Feel like it was not worth the trip. We thought it would be like a three course meal and a few things to pick from..kinda like a Taste of Hartford menu. Needless to say we were disappointed. What a disappointing experience! I went in for lunch this afternoon and waited a few minutes to be seated as the manager and host were chatting while sitting in a corner table. The host sat me at the bar and the bartender came a few minutes later to take my drink order. She seemed very anxious to leave and started walking away halfway through my order. The food was just "Ok". I was expecting to be wowed considering the prices. I ordered the smoked wings which came with 6 tiny wings for a whooping 12 dollars. I was expecting at least a dozen wings for that price. For my entree, I ordered the beet salad. It consisted of two thin slices of seasoned beets and a handful(if that) of spring mix for $9. Went for lunch with my friend. Ordered the fried calamari. Delicious, light, crisp. Love the fried cherry peppers in the calamari. Glad to see to the tentacles along with the rings, think they are great. Had the Sausage Rapini for my main course. My favorite pasta dish, just like my mother used to make, and it was awesome! My husband took me out for Birthday dinner. We originally wanted to try the 'real' carbones in Hartford. But after being heard that its same menu with much affordable price at Carbone's Kitchen, we decided to give it a try at this place first. We ordered Arancini for appetizer. I couldnt pass on this since Arancini is my favorite Italian appetizer. It was delicately presented, and taste was great as their presentation. My entree was their signature Carbonara, and it was the best carbonara I've ever had so far. It was not cheesy or greasy, nor too creamy. Very tasty! My husband had chicken parm, and it was delicious as well! We are def going back to venture more of their menu :) read more

I've been to the Carbone's location in Hartford several times - this was my first trip to the newest location in Bloomfield. My family and I came in (party of 20) after a wake - we didn't have reservations, and assumed that at 8:00 on a Friday night we would have to wait but they were able to seat us at three tables right away. The restaurant and bar area were fairly busy and the decor was a bit more modern than the Hartford location. We started out with a round of drinks and an order of eggplant fries. Eggplant fries were great - crispy, flavorful with a nice side of marinara. My wine was fine - but my cousin and sister noted that their martinis were extremely strong - to the point it was almost hard to drink. I ordered a pear, Gorgonzola and prosuttio pizza for dinner - the portion was huge (I had it for lunch the next day) and the flavors were great. I've had this combo at other places where they really skimp on the pears - this version had nice thick slices of grilled fruit. Others at my table ordered beef tenderloin, surf and turf and pasta carbonara. No complaints. In fact, my younger sister said it was the best carbonara she had ever had. Our server was knowledgeable about the dishes, friendly and fast. The other servers did a great job of coordinating all three tables so were were eating the same courses at the same time. Mediocre to bad Italian food, served in a generic semi-modern decor. The only positive part of the experience was that the waiter was very good - that delicate balance of coming by just often enough without being intrusive. Bread with oven cured tomatoes: Bread was horribly dense and the olive oil used with the tomatoes did nothing to enhance it. I'm not a fan of oven cured tomatoes to begin with, but it could work with the right olive oil. Wedge Salad: Blue cheese dressing came from a can :-( Lots of bacon if that's your thing - personal preference is that bacon should add to and enhance the flavor of the wedge. Here it was trying to make up for an overall lack. The menu said EVOO, but I think they substituted EVOO with blue cheese dressing - epic fail. Ravioli: A little under cooked but not too bad. Carbonara: Oily grease sauce, undercooked pasta, over-reliance on meat in the sauce to make the dish. This COULD be an amazing dish - unfortunately this particular interpretation would need to be reworked from the ground up :-/ Apple Crisp Dessert: Epic fail. The crisp...was.....not.........crisp. I'll go no further. Price was a touch on the high side - maybe a buck or two more than I would have expected for the type of place. Ambiance was a little on the generic side. Overall - fits in with a lot of the mediocre restaurants found in CT. CT: You can do better!!! read more

Eh... I don't get it. This place is pretty weak. I mean it's a nice enough looking space in a pretty antiquated strip mall in Bloomfield, but it's cold and I mean that literally. More than one customer had their coats over their shoulders. Additionally, the food and service are eh... The server we had was really weak. He was both slow and fast. It felt like he was rushing us to order and then it took, what seemed like forever for our appetizer and salads to come out. He came over and said, "let me check on your salads and appetizers." Miraculously our salads appeared but no appetizer. It came about five minutes later. We suspect he hadn't put the order in. In addition he didn't tell us the specials until we had already placed our order. "Oh yeah let me tell you about the chef's specials." Ahhh Ok... Why wasn't that the second thing out of his mouth after "can I get you a drink?" Weak! The salads were pretty basic. I had the Caprese salad and both my wife and I thought the burrata tasted as if it had been in a freezer. The dressing was heavy on both salads, my wife just had the mixed salad. The appetizer, the eggplant fries, was pretty good but underseasoned. I had the linguine and clams and my wife had the "Crazy Carbonara." Well, that name should have given us a clue. The dish just doesn't work. The carbonara sauce is totally overpowered by the smokiness of the bacon and sausage. There was also a layer of oil in the dish in addition to the cream sauce. Conceptually it sounded good, but in execution not so much. My linguine and clams were boooooooring! A fairly small portion of pasta served with a pretty weak wine based sauce. Overall, I have got to be honest Carbone's Kitchen's service and food seem tired. Italian food from Belmont it's not. I doubt we'll be back. read more

I visited Carbone's recently and I enjoyed the experience. We started off with some egg plants fries (not the actual name) and they were tasty. A little on the hot side when they came out. For dinner, I ordered the Fresh Rigatoni Bolognese and it was delicious. Some coffee at the end to top it all off. The staff was nice and so is the atmosphere. The food here is always good, but the service always leaves something to be desired, which detracts from the overall experience. At a recent visit, we were ushered to our table, and then sat unattended for a while and then periodically throughout the evening. Hire more wait staff, dudes. read more

An Onion Allergy at an Italian Restaurant. I have an affliction. I can't eat any allium. Garlic is pure torture but the chef(s) at carbone's kitchen were very accommodating and did not poison me or over-salt food to make up for the not using allium. They only had to modify my selected dish slightly. Our server was efficient and top notch. I notice most of their servers seem to be "seasoned" with an air of maturity. They must be the best of the best. From salad to entree to desert, everything was fabulous! read more

Excellent little Italian place in Bloomfield. The waitstaff was friendly and the manager even took the time to stop by our table and ask how everything was. The prices were also very good. Ordered curbside last Friday. Family ordered the chicken parmigiana and the chicken piccata. Meals came with house, caesar salads and warm garlic bread. Ordering was very simple and we arrived at the scheduled time. Popped open my back tailgate and they placed the food in my truck. When we arrived home we found the food to be outstanding. Made reservations and showed up a few minutes early for them. Was told we needed to wait, no problem. We were seated 10 min after our reservation time, no biggie. Our table was horrible. It was in an aisle area in the main room by the bar. Every time someone walked by my brother was bumped. We waited a long time for someone to come over. We ordered all at once as we didn't want to wait. The food was good, the service not so much. Our waitress had to be flagged down each time we needed her. Also we we told she was leaving for break and we needed to pay her now and her tip. SO UNPROFESSIONAL!! We were not even done with our meal. What if we wanted dessert or anther drink. We said we would settle up the bill when done. She said we needed to at least give her the tip. We told her no and asked for boxes as our meal was then ruined and the fine time we were having was done. Won't go back as the prices are not worth the portions or poor service. I love Italian food and this didn't disappoint. We had 7 in our party and showed up without a reservation. We waited less than 10 minutes for a table. Since we had kids we placed their order first before settling on drinks. Fresh hot bread and sun dried tomato pesto delivered to table - yummmmmm. Nice by the glass wine selection Kids meals delivered within 10 minutes Everyone ordered something different so there was lots to share. Went with a friend for lunch this past week and yet again the service was both awesome and hysterical. Kim was our waitress and she's just so funny and helpful with suggestions. My friend and I couldn't decide what we wanted so we split the salmon as well as the shrimp pesto both meals were delicious, the salmon was cooked a perfect medium! I got the white sangria and my friend got the blood orange martini both delicious! We finished with a Irish coffee with creme de menthe on top. Will definitely be back as well as always request Kim. read more

Here for Sunday Happy Hour. Love the selection of cicchetti 1/2 price Menu. Especially their mini pork osso buccco! I wrote the above when their happy hour was one of the best around. Too bad they've changed things. As of Labor Day, we were told, Happy hour has changed. They're doing happy hour from 4:00-5:30 and they've raised a lot of their happy hour prices. Oh, FYI they are now, charging $2.50 for bread during their "happy hour and a half!" We went here for lunch and we loved it. We ordered chicken a la vodka pasta and the Italian bomb pizza. We are really picky about pizza- we usually get Pepe's. While this was not as thin, it was really good brick oven crust with fresh mozzarella. We also had the vodka fettuccine which definitely tasted homemade (not sure?) but was awesome. Lunch today with a friend. Our waitress, Sue, was attentive and very pleasant. Both of us had the Spicy chicken sandwiches (I don't know why its weird when guys order the same thing - not that there is anything wrong with that - but my friend did get the "truffle" fries which made it, in some ways, even weirder, but I digress . . . ). My family are long standing return customers to this restaurant. The food is always great. Tonight, unfortunately, our dinner was made unpleasant by a poor experience with service. Our server was borderline rude and impatient with my daughter's food allergies. My daughter was very politely explaining her food allergies (a very serious condition) to our server, and unfortunately was met with a very rude, short, and dismissive reaction. It was almost as if we were inconveniencing our server (Robin) by being there. Very disappointing. I expect more from Carbone's, and am not sure we'll be back. 11/15/17: thank you, Carbone's, for an amazing night out and for reminding us why we love coming here. Party of 4, seated promptly, Sunday night. First impression: pleasant decor, several families with loud young children. (Did we walk into Bertucci's?) Menu seemed limited, but we all seemed able to find a few options. Seemed like kale was pervasive. (Was it on special?) My husband and I requested the "Kale Caesar" salad (get it?), which had a different take on the traditional Caesar by including some grapefruit sections. Strange combination, but will let it go. Why are restaurants so reluctant to actually divide the salad onto two plates when it is ordered as shared? At least, they could provide some utensils to make the splitting a bit easier. We asked for bread twice before it was finally delivered. Then we understood why the delay: bland, cool, Wonderwheat with exactly 4 pieces tossed into a basket. If you have to count the pieces, come around and place one piece on each bread plate. Oh, wait, they took our bread plates away after we had used them for the split salads. Veal parmesan served with kale (Had to ask for pasta to substitute for the kale as there was enough of that in the salad.) Wait, veal parm without pasta? I ordered a chicken artichoke pesto pasta dish and requested no mushrooms. Guess what came with my pasta? Yup. I sent it back, and it was returned quickly sans shrooms, but was lukewarm. Caught the attention of the host/manager (?), who promptly took the dish back to the kitchen. Our waiter returned, apologized for his error since he failed to inform the kitchen about the mushroom deletion, and advised us that he would have to pay for it himself. Was he hoping for a bigger tip out of sympathy? Other couple ordered the rigatoni bolognese and diver scallops, both described as "average." We were all rather put off by the experience, so it tainted our food enjoyment. Waiter asks if we would like dessert and we said we'd like to see the menu. Five minutes later, maybe more, he asks if there is anything else he can get us. Uh, the dessert menu? Desserts were pricey. $8-9. We passed. On the way out, we stopped and spoke to the host/manager and asked if it was indeed policy that the waiter would have to pay for the error that was made. "Yes, absolutely." We noted that it seemed inappropriate for this policy to be known to the customer as we shouldn't be made to feel badly about a service error and/or the restaurant policy. She said she would take care of that "with a reprimand." Ew. What a horrible restaurant experience. I would want a restaurant to support their low- paid staff the way we would want a principal in a school to back the teachers. The restaurant management should take full responsibility for the food, the ambiance, the training of their staff and the customer experience. They should also recommend that waitstaff write down the orders, especially when there are special requests. Having servers pay for their mistake is cheap and punitive. It costs the restaurant pennies in comparison to the high cost for the server. (I'm thinking of the inflated alcohol prices as I make that comment.) Is this supposed to be a deterrent? Maybe I'm naive about this; I don't own or run a restaurant. In any event, if you want good, solid, reasonably priced Italian food in Bloomfield, go to Concetta's. There are so many other options nearby... Oh, and yes, I did enjoy my pesto pasta -- when it finally arrived hot. read more

Slow service, messed up orders, and very overpriced...24 dollars for a half piece of grilled chicken with a few green beans is comical. Hostess didn't have our reservations when we arrived and had an attitude, then felt the need to interrupt us while we were eating to say we made our reservation at the Hartford location instead of Bloomfield.
