One of the lifeguards constantly crossed personal boundaries and eventually called me an alcoholic because I did not accept his unsolicited medical advice. The aquatics director and CEO made me stand in his office despite me telling the CEO that I cannot stand or sit for an extended period due to chronic pain and my disability, and while making me stand and listen to him repeat everything he said over email, they both basically took the side of the lifeguard, suggesting without asking the offensive party that the lifeguard was "joking" and I was more or less holding a grudge. They even suggested that the Bayside pool wasn't the right pool for me because I was offended by being called an alcoholic by this lifeguard. They never asked the lifeguard to apologize to me after I requested an apology. I do not feel respected at this YMCA branch. Another issue is the staff don't tell you that there's an additional annual fee on top of the regular monthly fee and joiner's fee until after you've joined. I reached out to the same CEO and membership director about this issue, and have been met with silence for over a month. But when they didn't like that I complained about a lifeguard slandering me and his continued foul mannerisms towards me, the CEO wouldn't leave me alone constantly emailing me and demanding I go into his office when I asked for a phone call to accommodate my disability to address the issue.

Their family membership is an excellent value when you take into consideration the complementary child care. Their pool and locker facilities were recently renovated and are very nice. The YMCA offers a wide variety of classes, and although the selection might not be as robust as other facilities, I have enjoyed them. The cardio/weights room, where I spend a lot of time has been updated with brand new equipment and is well managed - there are typically available cardio machines in the busy morning hours. This Y is also located next to the East Bay Bike Path - so one can easily bike here, and go out running during or after a visit. Bottom line a good value, a good facility for the area.

The service at this gym is personal, the environment is friendly, the equipment is well maintained, the showers clean and the dry sauna is great. The bonus is the food bar where nutritious smoothies are made. Highly recommend this gym to anyone looking for a good workout in a friendly atmosphere. Would like to give a shout out to Sherry L, the personal trainer I worked with. Sherry worked with me to develop a strength plan based on age, health history and goals. We used a variety of equipment including free weights, machines, TRX etc. Sherry is very knowledgeable with equipment technique and communicates in a friendly way. The owners of the club are very friendly, and take the time to make you feel at home. Not to mention, members here are relatively courteous and respectful. Great Communication, too. If there is something that is not right... they usually post that they are addressing it on one of the many boards located around the club. The equipment types and variations are very broad. I'd find it very hard to believe that if there's an exercise that you wish to perform, that with what they have available, it's possible. I've been to gyms in the past and had to work out on ripped and torn pads, squeeky or loose pulley systems, to dirty dumbbells. Waiting and waiting for that one bench that someone is hogging for 45 minutes while they are on a cell phone. That does not seem to exist here. Everything they have is in very good condition and are well taken care of. This gym doesn't usually get all that busy, especially during peak times (4-6pm). There is usually ample space and machines are typically free when you need them. I've never personally had an issue. This is one of the cleanest gyms, if not the cleanest, which I feel is very important, and judging by how other members are careful to clean machines, it's also important to them as well. Right from the beginning, the women at The Edge made me feel right at home. The instructors are so patient and encouraging, modifying workouts individually when necessary. And all the other women in the classes are down to earth and collaborative through the workouts. The classes are hard and I always feel a huge sense of accomplishment when I'm done. Natalina is a big supporter of local businesses and the neighborhood in general, and she combines her focus on fitness with charitable opportunities throughout the year. I love The Edge!

After some research I came to discover Mind Body Barre. I took a Mind Body Barre method class with Caitlin at the Rehoboth location and it was honestly one of the better exercise classes I've taken in recent years. The class runs about an hour and includes elements of ballet, Pilates, and yoga. The class runs at a moderate speed and is accompanied by modern pop music for the entire hour so it really keeps your energy up. The facility is spacious, clean, and well lit. the studio provides all of the equipment you will use in class but I would highly recommend bringing water and a towel. Parking is decent but I would arrive early to get a spot near the entrance. Overall I had a wonderful experience and I'm looking forward to visiting the studio again!

If you want good training, Body Natural Fitness in the Bristol oyster bar building is a hidden gem, and if you live in Warren the Bristol AF location is head and shoulders better. They have with few exceptions only one working model of everything so you better hope someone else isn't trying for the working erg, treadmill, or upright bike. Lastly, other RI AF locations are great. There is no hands-on effort or character behind this location. Case in point: instead of executing on friendly energetic staff hours at peak times to enforce tailgating, they have invested in their creepy big brother security system to badger and bully people in the name of a "secure facility" which is a hilarious joke for the unsuccessful effort they make.
