We were on a bachelorette trip and had ridden horses nearby and all of us were starving. We came around lunch time on a Friday and it was not too busy and there were a lot of us. Everyone was so sweet. We ordered the Chicken Club, Ham and Eggs Benedict, Caesar Salad, Deli Ham and Swiss Sandwich, Corned Beef Hash, Taco Salad, Burrito, Cowboy Benedict, Jalapeño Carne Asada Wrap, and of course Mimosas. read more

In an area that doesn't have many options, it's nice to have a small quick cafe. The food is very good. I love the roasted chicken club (tip: add avocado and get it on sourdough). The macaroni salad is very flavorful, and I'm quite picky on Mac salad. My only complaint is the cost. The sandwich with side of Mac salad and a fountain drink is over $20. $4 seems high for a small fountain drink to go. Although i find it high priced, it's not enough to keep me from coming back for the tasty sandwich. read more

An amazing breakfast/lunch spot near the Tonto national forest ! I love it, fresh food, great service.

I really like this cute little spot. The breakfast burrito and omelettes are really good. And the Chai Latte is yummy. Inside seating is quite limited but there is a cute little outdoor area and takeout works as well. I did have an issue with my takeout order one day: the omelette I ordered came with bacon even though it was supposed to be veggie). However, when I called, the staff was apologetic and quick to make another one for me to pick up right away even though they were about to close. When I arrived, they comped the Chai Latte I ordered for our trouble (my daughter had one with our takeout and it was delicious so I ordered another when I called about the bacon). Normally I would reduce a review rating by one star for a mixup like this (adding meat to a veggie item and then us having to drive back to the restaurant) . . . but since it wasn't that far, and mostly because of their great attitude, it made up for the inconvenience so I leave them with 5 stars. read more

Sat on the patio nice day started with an ice water which was noticeably unfiltered tasting nasty, ordered a Coke sausage, gravy, and biscuits with a side of bacon. Let's break this down a Coke four dollars. The server never offered a refill bacon $5.50 while it was tasty I got two pieces of bacon so we're at $10 for two pieces of bacon and 12 ounces of soda, ridiculous the sausage gravy did not appear to be sausage gravy. There was no sausage in it. It had tiny random bits of meat that I could not figure out it was brown and had a gel like consistency not white creamy, or sausage The service was slow very slow and never once did my server ask me how my meal was for $30 I would never in 1 million years return or recommend this place very disappointing when there's so many other options. After hiking Pinnacle Peak needed a coffee. SO glad I stopped in the local gem! Was not gonna eat, but the smell of freshly cooked breakfast could not be passed up. Great food and service! A must try again next time we are in Scottsdale! Small local cafe with darling interior and offers outside seating. Scrambled eggs with cheese and spinach was yummy and it disappeared from my place. The buttermilk pancakes were light and fluffy. So delicious. read more

We felt that the food was average tasting, overpriced, and the service was slow. I ordered the turkey club and my husband ordered the BLT. We felt like the sandwiches were pretty small for the price, and we didn't like that the sides were not included. The table that we were sitting at outside was dirty and splintered. No one checked on us during our meal, and we had to go up and ask for the check. We were visiting from out of town and wanted to support a local business. The chicken salad is really good. Given we have very few other food options up here I would love to see them expand to dinner time. The resturant next store, Rosati's is un-eatable, so at night we have very limited options. And Pony Express has lovely people and clearly care about serving a nice lunch. read more

I love this place! I love supporting these local businesses! Our first visit but definitely not our last! It is my wife's birthday today and she wanted to hike Pinnacle Peak, which we did and she had searched for a breakfast/brunch place in the area. I already had this place bookmarked, score!! One thing to note right away is they are dog friendly so we got some petting in on some sweet dogs. My brother-in-law and I decided to try a special type order. He was a toss up on the Burrito or Omelet, I told him I would order one and he order the other and we would split them. Then I though, I'll ask if they can do that from the kitchen. They were so obliging and it couldn't have turned out better (check out the picture). I tell you, everything was SO GOOD! We ordered the burrito and omelet with Jalapenos and if you know my profile, you know why. And burrito with Chorizo. OMG, I am telling you, with the salsa, sour cream, the potatoes, MAN it was all sooooo delicious! The staff was just awesome, and just one question, are they family because they sure seem like it. I've lived here 3yrs and finally tried Pony Express out. WOW I've been missing out on the best breakfast in North Scottsdale. This place is really terrific and if you haven't tried it -Do! Biscuits and gravy with a Southwest twist were really epic. Service was great and a dog friendly patio. What more could I wish for. read more

What a cute little hole in the wall spot! We stopped here after our morning hike and it was a great experience. The waitresses were nice and we sat outside. We got the breakfast burrito and the chorizo hash. Both came with a delicious fresh salsa. The portion sizes were great and the prices reasonable. I'm a loyal customer!! I love to stop in for their BLT on occasions when I'm running errands and want to take something home to enjoy. The staff is always kind and helpful. The food is fresh and delicious. I haven't tried much else on the menu- but, I plan to branch out from my usual soon! I have heard their soups are very good! The interior is a bit simplistic and could a bit of jazzing up- that would be my only recommendation. The new owners are making lots of improvements- like they will hopefully have happy hours with wine someday!! read more

I live up in the Troon area and haven't had an opportunity to try the Pony Express Café until a few days ago. The food was excellent, and the service was outstanding. I just wasn't aware that they serve breakfast and lunch and the food was that good I mistakenly overlooked them. Now that I know that they're in the neighborhood I definitely frequent more often and I'm thankful to have them so close to the house it makes life easier and what an incredible convenience to be able to drive just a few minutes away for excellent breakfast. I really appreciate the owners trying to enhance their business to make an even better experience for our community. I love living up on the north side of Scottsdale but they're just aren't enough options. This place is a huge credit to the community!! Was looking for a place for a breakfast sandwich out our way and this place hit the spot! After reading the reviews we decided to try it and so glad we did! Hubby had sausage & egg on biscuit and I had bacon and egg on English muffin. Both delicious! Staff very friendly and food came out quick! Got pick up from here today! My husband got the breakfast with eggs, bacon, potatoes, and toast. I just got a side of potatoes and tea. My husband also got a latte and we got a cinnamon roll to share. Our food was ready on time and the people working there were really nice! They were sweet, I asked for hibiscus tea and they were out so they asked if I wanted black tea with some passion fruit syrup and I tried it. It was really strong and syrupy I ended up throwing it away after 2 sips. But I did appreciate them trying to accommodate for me! My husband said food was ok, his portions were small but it was enough. The cinnamon roll was stale, unfortunately that will be going to waste too. My potatoes were really good though, I added a little of my own feta and hot sauce at home and it was delicious. I'm not opposed to coming back and the service was great, the food we tried was meh. read more
