Why ain't nobody tell me that the Trinis had the oxtail game on lock? I've never had oxtail this tender in my life. It fell off the bone. You literally didn't even need teeth to eat these oxtails. The plate came with a lot of food too: A generous portion of oxtails of all different sizes: big ones, little ones, medium size.... But all of them were meaty and incredibly flavorful. It came with my choice of spinach or cabbage. I chose the cabbage, and it was delicious. It also came with rice and peas, two pieces of plantain, and macaroni and cheese. This was a big plate, full of food! But this is Texas, so I'm not surprised. I also wanted a little cocktail, so I asked the lady at the counter if the rum punch was strong. She gave me a slow nod and that should have prepared me, but ya girl was not ready. I got the blue rum punch, I think it was Caribbean breeze flavor. It tasted like it had coconut milk in it, but I couldn't make out the other ingredients. What I could make out was that rum. That rum was loud! And pronounced! I wanted a strong drink and I damn sure got it! How strong was it? Well...I'm not a lightweight but I barely got through a third of the cup. I was feeling it after the first few sips. If I drank that whole thing I knew I was either going to be swinging from the chandeliers or asleep in the middle of a crosswalk somewhere. That rum punch will creep up on you. Eddie and I loved the food which was the curried chicken, rice n peas, Mac n cheese pie, and the plantains. They were out of a lot of stuff since we came in after lunch rush, but the food that was still there was pretty damn delicious. The chicken was dark meat and super tender fall off the bone. I was visiting the farmers market with friends, hadn't had Caribbean in a while and decided to check this place out! Of course I came to Yelp and made my choices based on the reviews I read. I chose the jerk chicken entree which comes with 3 sides and plantains. For my sides I chose rice and peas, macaroni pie and since they were out of bhagee/sautéed spinach I had the cabbage mix instead. $20 may seem a bit steep for the entree however I found it to be plentiful enough for 2 meals since there were 4-5 pieces of chicken parts and large portions of each side except for the plantains which there were only 2. The jerk chicken fell off the bone, very flavorful, and had a nice heat to it! Ask for jerk sauce for added heat with slight sweetness! The macaroni pie tasted like someone's soulful grandma made it. The rice and peas had the perfect balance of rice and peas with flavor. The cabbage was sautéed yet fresh, and the plantains were cooked to perfection. The lady working was very nice and patient even with a constantly forming line. I must admit I'm an ox tails snob. When I first tasted them, I knew the flavor was different from others, but I wasn't sure I liked them. More pronounced allspice and bay leaf; sweeter than I expected. However, they were the most tender oxtails I've ever had at a restaurant. Had a thick flavorful sauce that most restaurants do not have; the peas and rice couldn't stand on it own but the sauce more than compensated. Plantains well seasoned and cooked, and I didn't even bother with the Mac and Cheese. They give a healthy portion of food, so I didn't eat it all. I saved a good portion for leftovers, and when I finished up I was sure they were the best oxtails I've had in a very long time! I'm almost hesitant to go back, for fear I may have a let down. My wife gave the curry chicken a B- The customer service was a bit subpar. The rice in the rice and peas was gummy and no flavor, the spinach was soupy and tasteless, the cabbage was under cooked and again flavorless the curry chicken lacked curry, was watery and overcooked. My BFF got the same except she got jerk chicken and the jerk chicken was a little better but not by much. The vegetables were the same. If I could them less than one star I would. Had to stop by here to try their drinks! This place is located inside the Dallas Farmer's Market and has plenty of food to offer. However, we were a bit full from lunch, so just decided to try their refreshing drinks. We asked the server what the best flavor was, and he suggested that we try a mix of the mango and the sorrel. I am super glad we did, because it was SO GOOD. Drink $4.50: This was well worth it. I wish they had a larger size. It was so refreshing and sweet. I have never tried sorrel before, so it was definitely a great experience! Will be back to try the soursop! The roti's portion was enormous so we split it. The way they served it was they served the fillings wrapped in their homemade roti like a burrito. The garbanzo was beautifully cooked and when ate altogether with the tamarind sauce + their homemade habanero sauce, it was another party in our mouths again. Food - this is why its a 2 star - I ordered some doubles , curry chicken roti and beed pattie - food was super salty! The only thing that saved the doubles was adding the tamarind sauce. The chicken roti also had too much ground cumin flavor - so unfortunately was pretty disappointed jn taste - maybe they had an off day ? So here I am living in Texas by way of the beautiful Virgin Islands I most certainly was born and raised on island food. Its the main cuisine I prepare in my home, unfortunately DFW has a major shortage of the goods. Stopped by here and ordered curry chicken plate. I asked the young man at the counter if I could get a jerk chicken plate but with the boneless meat that they use for the jerk chicken sandwich. He was extremely rude and told me to just pick the chicken off the bone myself. Now has I wanted to do that I wouldn't be asking for boneless chicken.
