Host is super social and loves having a good chat over profits. Food was good. Jamaican Pattie's we're slightly dry.

Wow this place is legit! We were here on a July 4th weekend, got in line around 11:20 (it wasn't…read moretoo bad) and watched the line just get progressively longer. There's umbrellas along the queue so you're mostly shaded while waiting to order. The wait to order goes by somewhat slowly - in a way that feels well timed to not overwhelm the kitchen. For eating, there's counter space along the water and there's a FEW small stools to sit on underneath umbrellas. Honestly everything does look VERY good and I would definitely come back multiple times; I'd be interested in trying nearly everything on the menu! For this first visit, we got one piece of fried halibut and the poutine. The chips (fries) are VERY good. Next time I wouldn't order the poutine as a party of two because it is pretty salty and filing (maybe it makes sense to share with a larger party). I've got my eye on the salmon sandwich and the tacones for next time.

Going against the general crowd opinion about fish and chips…read more Chips actually were very good. 5/5. But fish for me was not as afresh as I expected it to be and the coating felt little thick for my taste. On the other hand the tacones were lip smacking good. We tried ones with cod but the the flavor was highlighted coz of added coriander seeds in their sauce. Loved the coleslaw. Can't eat those deep fried fish without refreshing side due dish. Salmon was also good. 4/5. We stayed in line for good 40 minutes but found a table along the boardwalk. This was on a Monday evening. At 6 PM. Thankfully, all the time busy marina kept our toddler busy. It's a small shack and right between a seaplane harbor and kayak rental. WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND TACONES!

Service was friendly though…read morewe were left alone the majority of the meal except when they server came by to take our order and get our bill. Other than that, no one really checked up on us though some people (owners? employees?) did walk by. Food was tasty though we both found the jerk chicken and shrimp salty (it was a bit spicy for me but that's just my tolerance). For around $25 for my dish after tax and tips, I can't say I left completely satisfied. I like supporting local businesses and would recommend trying though!

I really wanted to love this place more then I did. I originally just wanted a Coco bread and patty…read moresandwich. However, it appeared you could not put the two together when ordering and the server (I think) was extremely nice but she had to go back and ask with every order. It was weird since it showed on the website you could get a beef patty and coco bread. In the end I ended up getting a patty in a coco bread but it was so complicated to order. My husband got the same thing and an order of Johnny cakes with the Mango butter. The best thing about the whole experience was the Johnny Cakes and the mango butter. It was truly the mango butter that had me bring a smile to my face. If I could, I would of slathered the whole butter in the Johnny cakes. When it comes to the beef patty, my husbands was warm yet mine was ice cold in the middle. Clearly microwaved I would assume. In the end it was just an okay experience if that. I would like to see more consistency with the menu and the knowledge of it and the promise of fresh made food being true. It sure didn't taste like that with the patty.

The cheese empanadas were good, but the cheese and the chicken empanada was not great, thanks to boiled, flavorless chicken. The house-made tortillas that accompanied the carne asada were very good. The steak was on the tough side. Service was quick but not particularly attentive. The young woman at the counter brought out our food but never asked how it was. The place is a dive, but with the exception of the women's restroom, is clean. The toilet in the women's restroom was gross, the toilet paper was sitting on the sink, and the paper towel dispenser was broken.

I think it is safe for me to state that El Mana is the only place where you could get some traditional Honduran/Guatemalan food. They have baleadas wrapped with their homemade tortilla. They also offer on their menu: tamales; pupusa; savery or sweet empanadas; Pollo (fried chicken with fries) fritos; and their version of enchiladas. Be warn their enchiladas dishes are not the ones you normally encounter at a Mexican or Latin restaurant. These Honduran enchiladas are made in the style of a tostada. Crispy corn tortillas, piled with meat, veggies, cheese, and eggs. The owner is a baker so make sure you try some of his bake goods. I got one of their freshly baked Guatemalan bread that I was told Hondurans eat along with their coffee for breakfast. I can see why-- it tasted like a muffin or a donut. The location of the restaurant is within a strip mall off Birchwood, so it may be hard to find, but lots of parking available. Family own and run--from the owner's daughter who runs the front of the restaurant to the owners themselves who put a lot of their own love into the food they put out. The dining area is spacious and perfect for a small or large group to come dine. The owners daughter, who also works there said they wanted the space to be a place where families could come together and enjoy all the food she loved growing up with her mom's cooking. Food is one of the things that bring people together and at the same time expose them to other cultures. Can't wait to bring my family here to dine.
