After scouring around on the internet, I decided to go with Rick's Coffee Bar. Immediately, I knew if I lived here, this would probably be a place I'd frequent more often. I loved the cozy interior, the veteran friendly vibes, and of course, the drinks. I ordered the Miel, which I've seen around different coffee shops in the area, and was not disappointed. It came with two double shots, and the perfect about of honey for the sweetness. The hard part now is trying to decide if I want Rick's to be my coffee choice this week as well or to venture elsewhere.. I don't know. Hard choices, am I right?

I ordered a hot Noko Espresso with raspberry syrup, and it was very good--rich and bold, with a strong raspberry flavor just the way I like it. I originally wanted kiwi syrup, but they mentioned it's seasonal and wasn't available at the time. The interior of the shop was fine--not overly decorated, but comfortable and warm. After enjoying my coffee, I took a short walk to soak in the beautiful views at Lake Nokomis. What a great day!

We came around 1pm on a weekday and there was a bit of a wait as it was only one person making drinks and serving customers. They have an extensive menu with so many specialty drinks. It was a bit of decision fatigue before finally landing on our order. I tried the bananarama chai and my friend had their lychee matcha. The matcha almost tasted completely fruity with no actual matcha taste, to the point where it came off more like a smoothie or juice than a caffeinated drink. My chai wasn't bad, but I didn't get much of the banana flavor. The space itself has a few tables and there is free WiFi as well. They always announce new seasonal drinks so I may come back if anything catches my eye.

I was in the area today, and decided to stop in since I no longer live in the area and wanted to enjoy a good brew. Unfortunately, the experience I had left me leaving with a bitter taste in my mouth - and it wasn't from the coffee. I thought it goes without saying, but when a customer greets you, you should greet them back, not just stare. It would be even better if your staff would greet each customer first - make them feel welcome. Maybe I'm a millennial channeling boomer energy, but for years I'm noticing the customer service disappearing from a lot of businesses. I love that connection, but I'm understanding that some people see only a paycheck and skid by with minimal customer service and that is the new way. I don't plan to visit this establishment again. I wish the barista with star tattoos would have put in enough customer service energy that she did with her impeccable makeup.

Also love their outdoor patio when it's nice out. I've always been able to get on street parking. It's expensive, but all places are right now. Also love the notebook they have at the counter with the question of the day that you can write in. So clever!
