Everything was fresh and delicious. I had the stewed snapper with yams and beans and rice. My husband had 2 meats. The jerk chicken and curry goat with green beans and yams. He enjoyed my stewed snapper the best. The jerk chicken was good and all the veggies were too but the goat he didn't like. I called ahead and ordered the large stewed oxtail plate. The cost was $27.11. After driving from the NW Expressway and Rockwell, I get the plate and it's 1 and a 1/2 tiny bones. Literally half a scoop of mac and cheese and a half scoop of green beans, for darn near $30. I didn't even make it to my car. The plate was so light it was begging me to open it and see what he served me. Took the plate back in and asked him if only two tiny bones was the large plate, what did the small plate look like? Guy smiled, you know that shit eating smile you get from someone who's caught scamming. He ended up giving me two more TINY ass bones and sent me on my way. I'll never shop there again. This place gives black owned businesses a black eye and it reinforces the "every black person is crooked" stereotype. Never shop at this place people. This is the only Caribbean place that I've found in OKC. It's still covid and they don't have dine-in seating but based on the small line that formed right behind me, I have no doubt that this is a gem in its own right. It's a buffet style but not self serve. They serve you and had glass/plastic between you and all the food. This definitely relieved all my concerns of sanitation because I wasn't sure what to expect. They served with a mask and provide generous portions. One thing to note is that they've increased their prices so what you used to get for $10-12 maybe more like $13-$16 right now. They were out of the meat patties and callaloo which was a bummer but I got the following: Stewed Ox Tail w/spinach rice, sweet plantains Jerk Chicken Wings w/Mac n cheese and sweet plantains Sweet plantains are a fav in our house so instead of getting other veggies, we opted for extra plantains! The ox tails were juicy, fall off the bone goodness and they poured the juices on the rice ... so good. The Mac n cheese was good too. It's baked Mac n cheese so there's not the goey cheesiness like a regular Mac n cheese dish but my family enjoyed it. The jerk chicken is mild and I only ate one part of the drummette that felt a bit over cooked but since they let it sit in juices, it still tasted good and had ample moisture. I think sitting in the buffet may have overcooked it a tad. But the food was piping hot so I have no idea if they just make a little at a time and keep replenishing all day or what. They were friendly and the service is quick. Their hours are tough though. They close at 6:30pm so if you're getting off of work, you'll need to get there quick. If they run out and it's towards the end of the day, they probably won't make more. Now, if we have a craving for ox tail, we know where to find it. read more

Outstanding. True and authentic. I've tried the curry goat, Trinidad stew, jerk chicken, ox tails, all the sides, beef patty, and probably a few other dishes. My absolute favorite entrees are jerk wings and curry goat. I highly recommend having rice and beans (or just rice if you hate beans) so that they can scoop some of that entree gravy over it. They prepare the sweet plantains especially well and the mac and cheese is special. The black eyed peas are awesome too, but I don't know if it's because I just like black eyed peas or if it's because they prepare it extra good. Also, if you want more heat, ask for their hot pepper sauce. It's not the one on the tables, they keep it in the back somewhere. It's nice and hot. One thing I didn't care for is the jamaican beef patty. Let's face it, it's basically the McDonald's cheeseburger of Jamaica. And in that way, it is authentic. Once in a while I want it, and in some weird way it scratches an inexplicable food itch I have, but objectively speaking, it is not really something I would recommend. Overall though, this is one of my favorite places to eat when I visit OKC. During any one of my typical one-week visits to OKC, I make sure that I come here at least once. Last time I went there 3 times within a week. It's so incredibly rare to find such an authentic place, true to Caribbean cuisine, in a place like OKC. It's better than anything I've had in all the places I've lived including Los Angeles. For any foodie out there, it would be nothing short of a tragedy to visit OKC and not eat at Carican Flavors. read more

The flavor of the chicken was good, but I felt like it had been sitting in the marinade so long that it was becoming mushy, so that was a little disappointing. We are en route from Minneapolis to Austin and needed a lunch spot. This place caught our eye--usually if someone opens a Caribbean restaurant outside of Florida, it is delicious. This was no exception. The outside is quite unassuming but the people in the restaurant are warm and genuine. The woman behind the buffet is a friend of the owner and the son of the owner was there too! They helped us decide on the oxtail and the red snapper. We had black eyed peas , spinach rice, broccoli , plantains and Mac and cheese. Everything was flavorful. As others have said it doesn't have the traditional spicy-ness of the islands but definitely full of flavor . The cornbread is amazing. A lovely meal for about $10/person. We love this restaurant! We love the food! We loved the experience! We became familiar with OKC Black Eats at the Black Foodie Summit several months ago. OKC Black Eats recently hosted Brunch & Tingz at Carican Flavors. Knowing that this pairing would make for a great experience, we were excited to try something new for us. The menu is posted for you to study as you stand in the order line. The most difficult thing for us to do was to decide what to order. Honestly. Everything sounded so good, and some things were intriguing (Curried Goat, Stewed Oxtail, Callalou). We finally decided to order a variety of things and share, so we could get the most from our meal(s). If you go on friday she serves callaloo, which is the best concoction I've ever had. I crave that delicious spinach/okra mash. Upon entering, the food is behind the counter like a cafeteria style setup.. The food has always been fresh and hot, so no issues of the food sitting and becoming cold, because I have witnessed on several occasions the staff always replenishing the food! I got the Jerk Chicken which was very good! It was seasoned well, and had a nice kick to it.. I also got the Curry chicken which was good, but not as good as the jerk chicken.. More curry flavor was needed for the curry chicken, kind of tasted watered down.. My thoughts about this place: I feel the cooks are holding back on the seasonings... Me being from the caribbean, I know how the food should taste! It's like there trying to cater to there location instead of cooking the food how it should be... This is a great little spot for Caribbean food in Oklahoma City. I am not sure if there are others that are specifically Caribbean. The owner Sharon is a very nice lady and the food is reasonably priced. The hours of operation aren't the most convenient, as they do close by 6:30pm Mon-Saturday, during the Fall & Winter months. Apr-Sep they are open until 7:30pm. This is probably a good thing as it sits close to the heart of the ghetto. It is on MLK after all, but 2-3 blocks north of NE23rd street on the west side of the road. Meats: I have come out here on a couple of occasions, The food is delicious. I had 4 different meat items and from best to worst: Oxtail, Lab stew, chicken curry and Jerk chicken. Their oxtail is mouth savoring. The lamb stew has a lot of bones, but its authentic and awesome. The curry chicken is pretty good, but I prefer indian curry chicken, call me bias. Their jerk chicken is not spicy at all and since it sits in fluids, it is moist but non-jerk flavored? Snacks: They do have meat pies which I really like. It is minced meat seasoned in a filo dough wrap and fried. The cornbread is better than any cornbread I have had. Vegetables: Spinach rice is pretty good and makes you feel healthy with the spinach in it. Best sweet potatoes I have ever had Green beans are so good and without the bacon that others use. I didn't try the baked mac & cheese or the cabbage, but those are options as well. When they do have plantains.. those absolutely rock. Drinks: Sorrell is a drink from the sorrell flower which is quite refreshing but a little too sweet. Definitely worth trying. Ginger beer has an interesting taste, although it obviously tastes very gingery. I have had them cater at my work several times and its usually a hit. read more

Started coming here a few months ago and now try to visit regularly. The food has been great every time. My usual order is the rice, curry chicken or jerk chicken and fried plantains. The chicken is really good and I love the fried plantains. My only small complaints are the hours make it difficult for me to eat here as much as I'd like. I've also tried the ox-tail on a previous visit and was very flavorful and something I would recommend! The place is set up cafeteria-style where you can choose what you'd like. The owner is always very nice and very welcoming. A couple co-workers that I went with today said the sweet tea was some of the best they've ever had. Very good place, I usually get the jerk chicken with cabbage and macaroni and cheese (sometimes referred to as mac pie), this place is very authentic in it's taste, if you are looking for authentic Jamaican/Caribbean dishes this is the place to go! The restaurant itself is a little small but it has all the necessities that you would expect of a restaurant (proper seating, restrooms, etc). The place is not a traditional sit down per say, it does not have waiters or waitresses, you go up to the counter, order your food and sit down. The good news of that, you don't have to worry about tips for waiters or waitresses, In regards to the Jerk chicken I personally think the spice is mild, I have been to other Caribbean places in the US that were much more spicy, so if you have shy'd away from Jamaican places before in the past because of this, give Carican a try! The rice was dry with no flavor , the oxtail didn't have any stew like taste , seasoning or sauce to go with the rice. The only flavorful thing was the plantain.
