Trapper's Fish Camp - A Return Worth the Wait (4) Our group of six chose Trapper's Fish Camp for our monthly dinner outing, and I'll admit--it had been well over 20 years since my last visit. After this experience, I can confidently say that was about 20 years too long. I had forgotten just how well the food is prepared here. I opted for the Crab Cake Sliders since I wasn't overly hungry, and they turned out to be the perfect choice. Great flavor, nicely portioned, and satisfying without being too heavy. I paired them with potato salad and coleslaw--both were solid sides that complemented the meal well. My wife went with the Fried Clams & Fries and was very pleased with her selection. Always a good sign when both meals hit the mark. The only downside was the noise level--it can get a bit loud--but with a full house, that's somewhat expected. Overall, a very enjoyable return visit. Every trip we make to OKC always includes a meal at Trappers. My wife loves the fried clams and we cannot get them in Tulsa. I always try something new when I go so get the etouffee, blackened redfish or the prime rib. I which they'd open one in Tulsa. It's very rustic decor is very clean and service is always good. Sometime we'll have to overnight our visit to OKC so I can sample their huge variety of bourbons. I keep adding my name to their e-mailing list but I never get anything. read more

Early dinner at Trappers. 30+ years of fun, enjoyment and good food. Arrived at 4:50 p.m. and the parking lot was packed. Once inside we jumped ahead of the long line and went to the bar. The bar has 6 to 8 high two-tops and there were several available. This is our normal approach when there's a line, and there's almost always a line. We started with a couple of beers. Jan ordered a Yuengling (bottle) and I ordered a Moose Drool on tap. We normally don't order beer with dinner but thought beer paired better with oysters and fried food. We started with a dozen oysters and they were outstanding. We like to spice them up. Jan takes the horseradish mixes it with the cocktail sauce that we dip the oysters in. She also spritzes the oysters with lemon juice and I dab them with Tabasco sauce. Yum! Jan ordered the fried shrimp dinner. It comes with fries, cole slaw and two hush puppies. They serve 10 very large shrimp. The shrimp was very good. The fries were excellent. I ordered the fishcamp salad with ranch. The salad comes topped with fried onions. The salad was really cold which is how I like my salad. I ordered an appetizer of fried clams. thoroughly enjoyed them. Love the atmosphere, the vibe and the energy that Trappers provides. It was a bit noisy but not to the point of being a distraction. The service was good. The prices moderate. read more

Trappers is one of my favorite restaurants. I don't wanna' give a bad review. I ordered it to go lunch from there about thirty minutes ago. I tried to call and speak to a manager with my concerns, I was hung up on. I'm not calling for compensation either. I ordered a salad, it was extremely wilted. Huge parking lot in the front, saloon like on the inside with bar on the side and booths lining the walls and tables in the center. Everyone was attentive and friendly. Raw oysters were fresh. Had to ask for salt each time. They're not on any of the tables and the servers don't automatically bring them unless you ask. Their Crawfish Etouffee is amazing. You can taste cajun heaven. Had it for lunch and went back the next day to get the dinner portion. I like to add a few dashes of tabasco sauce for that extra spiciness. The Fried Oyster was just okay. Have had better. Ambiance is incredible. Service was impeccable. I believe his name was Matt. Ask for the guy that looks like Lou diamond phillips. I had the coconut shrimp and it was awesome. My fries were Luke warm at the most and cold by the time I was through 3 shrimps. Hubby had the prime rib and lobster and he said it was great!! Mash potatoes had the same problem as the French fries. Bread was delicious, but my coleslaw was a Nono! Too much dill and dry. Hush puppies were good, spicy. Would I go back you ask? Yep!! Trappers Fish Camp is one of my favorite restaurants, the food is always fresh delicious with an excellent presentation. I love the fried onions on the house salad with their delicious blue cheese dressing. I ordered the whole chicken, which is a small chicken marinated for 24 hours and Cajun deep-fried - the skin was crispy flavorful and the chicken was juicy and very delicious. My hubby ordered the Cuban sandwich - pork roast, andouille sausage, pepper jack cheese, sliced pickles, mustard on a grilled hoagie. The prime rib with crawfish andouille was delicious as was the gator and tilapia. The blackened chicken pasta was also a big head very flavorful. I'm a team player so when the work team decided to go there, I went along. I'm just not a huge seafood fan. I am, I found out, a huge fan of their Trapper Salad. Wow - this place is truly an experience and I can't believe I had no idea it existed here in OKC! As soon as you enter you see stuffed bears, deer heads, fishing boats and trouts on the wall - a lot of cool decorations that creates a magic hunting and fishing expedition atmosphere. The food is also excellent - a wide array of different seafood plus prime rib selections - healthy ones too, like their Hawaiian mahi mahi with a light lemon seasoning and grilled vegetables; you can also order other side dishes like mushrooms and broccoli. This was a cool looking restaurant to be in-lots off stuffed stuff including a shark (yep). Seriously I liked the inside, it was fun like a beach restaurant with their kickbacks is. I have been a loyal customer of Paul Seikel's restaurants since 1989 when I first dined at Pearl's on NW 63rd St. & Classen. My latest experience, however, cannot be tolerated. My wife & I took our cousin to Trapper's for a birthday dinner. He was running late helping customers furnish their new house. He arrived just as our food was being served. After he was seated and began enjoying his dinner, my cousin noticed the restaurant manager staring and whispering to another employee. He very respectfully approached and asked if everything was alright, at which time he was told that he would have to leave. He quietly gathered his things, straightened his tie and walked to his car. I then spoke with the manager. I pointed out that at no time was my cousin disruptive, disrespectful, or anything but a gentleman. He would only tell me that he "was told that the gray-haired man can't be there". We boxed up our dinner, paid full price for all three meals, tipped the customary 20% and left. This is not the Oklahoma standard. Un-be-lievable! read more

Trappers is like a warm Cajun hug, one of the most consistent restaurants I've visited. Super relaxed and comfortable vibe, a come as you are kind of place. We visited on a Saturday afternoon and the place was hopping, and so was our waiter. Even though he was responsible for a very large party along with our 4-top, our service did not suffer. We started with fried gator bites and each picked seafood--the Okie Ponchartrain with fried catfish served over spicy crawfish etouffe for him and gilled rainbow trout over dirty rice for me. Both also came with a garden salad which means they also came with a box because it was more than we could finish! Pro tip: always ask for extra remoulade! read more

Trappers has been around for a long time, but I haven't been there in over 10 years. Tonight's meal was outstanding! We started our evening with a perfectly prepared old-fashioned and the alligator app. I wasn't in the mood for pasta but the crab topped salmon sounded good. I subbed out the linguine for green chile grits - it was a weird it delicious combo. The salmon was perfectly cooked and the grits were delightfully spicy. My husband really enjoyed the Cajun pasta. The service was good and the music and rustic decor were very enjoyable. We will be back. read more

We had a good meal here. Granted my husband wasn't super impressed but I will say it's the butteriest damn rice I've ever had. Also, those loaded tater tot appetizer was badass! It was so good. My salmon dish I got was really good and I would recommend it. My husband got the prime rib dip. It came with the steak pretty well done on it absolutely no pink. Despite that, he thought it had a good flavor- but best prime rib in OKC maybe not. Service was excellent though, best we've had in awhile, wish I could remember the gentleman's name. Saw butter was served with my dinner and wondered what the butter was for. On way out noticed other tables had fresh bread while all I got was crackers. Asked to take most of my dinner to go, he dropped off just a container. Possibly consider I'm from out of town staying at hotel and need utensils and a bag? We eat here every time we're in OKC for a horse show. In the past, we have always enjoyed it. This year in August when we were in OKC, we went and ate at Trapper's, and none of us enjoyed it nor did we finish any of our meals. The service wasn't as good as it had been in the past, even when you walked in the hostess station wasn't as friendly as in the past. The food was just off. We have eaten at Trapper's many times over the years. Maybe close to 50 times. It has always been great but the last 2 times we have been there the quality was different. The time before it was pretty mediocre. Everybody has an off night so we went tonight for my daughter's birthday. I always order the same thing. Prime Rib and the barbecued shrimp on a skewer. My wife and I ordered the prime rib medium rare. Both were bloody when the came out. We had to send them back for a little more fire. They brought them out and they were cooked right but as tough as a tough steak. Hard to cut and not much flavor. The shrimp skewers were good but the ones in the middle were not done. They had a funny texture to them so we got them to go so we could heat them longer in the microwave tomorrow. We sent the prime rib back and asked for coconut shrimp instead of the prime rib. They were great. The salad was great and the squash Rockefeller was great. My daughter got the salmon with crab meat. There was less than an ounce of crab meat. It looked more like bread crumbs not the fresh white crab in the photos. The server was great! We left her a good tip but I am really disappointed in the food quality. I recommend Trapper's to everybody and take friends from out of town there all the time. We will still go back but I guess I need to skip my favorite dish from now on. First time here. It's a restaurant and whiskey bar. Very cool ambiance it has all these hunter fishermen kind of things all over the walls. A lot of animal heads which it's not my favorite thing because it's just tough to see and know that they were hunted but it is what it is and it does make for ambiance in the place. I wasn't even planning on going out to eat it all but I went to a place next door to shop for something and didn't get what I came for so I decided to stop and eat early and I'm glad I did. Their old-fashioned was very good. They had a special on prime rib so I got it. Absolutely awesome! Everybody who served me was wonderful and they were very sweet to my dog as well. I love a place that has good service but they're really chill as well. I would definitely come back to this place they are all very sweet and the food is great. read more

Trappers is conveniently located on the west side of OKC where dining options are a bit more limited. So Trappers is a great spot for lunch or dinner. I've had it several times, and service is always good. Food is always in huge portions. It's a bit dark inside, but they have loads of very rustic decor. Definitely try this spot! read more
