(Prior to Jason coming we had the people who originally installed the system come and check it out and they determined the same fault but we had the feeling we were being rushed into making a decision about replacing it) Everything was delivered on Monday morning by 8am and Brandon & Mat removed the old heater & AC and we had heat again by 3:30 pm. They did a fantastic job with no trace of the old system or work inside or outside the house being visible. Would not hesitate to call them in the future. Price-wise they were less than our first call.

They were low pressure and presented me with exactly what was best for my place, not their commission. On the day of the install 6 people arrived working on the outside heat pump and the indoor condenser at the same time. They arrived at 8am and were done by 3pm. I live in a condo on the second floor and the AC is located in the ceiling. In spite of all the dirt and debris, the hallway was immaculate. They even wrapped the condenser with two layers of insulation so it would not sweat and damage the ceiling tiles.

So now it has been a week and the manager Chris finally called me back to say they were declining the job and they would refund my $89 estimate fee. No problem there but I really should have been informed at the start that their evaluation would take over a week. Communication is every bit as important as expertise

Bobby showed me two items that do need attention, but weren't critical enough to need to be replaced TODAY. I'll be inviting him back to complete the system by the end of the month for sure. McGinley to my rescue! Yesterday I heard a bang and my electric went out. Some lights came back…read moreon but others didn't. I went to the basement to check the circuits and discovered water on the floor around my heater and my new Thermostat also had stopped working. I called McGinley HVAC and spoke to Ryan and he quickly got me on the schedule for the next available technician. In about 45 minutes Charles arrived and immediately got to work on the leak and replacing the thermostat (which got fried from the power surge). My electrician wasn't calling me back so I asked Charles if he or McGinley had any electrician recommendations. He gave me the electrician's name and I called him. Within 15 minutes he was here and he found what was causing the power outage issue and fixed it. Words can't express how grateful I am to McGinley's team for their prompt and efficient service. Their kindness, compassion and outstanding service is appreciated. It is so reassuring to know McGinley is there for me and I highly recommend them!

So we can't be fooled. The tech tried to tell us that we needed to replace the control board. That's a $2,000 repair. We said no, but still had to pay $300 for his service call. Then we called a competitor who showed us that our problem was a hypo-allergenic heater filter with a weave so tight that the heater shut down rather than pump more air through that filter. It cost us $150 for the other guy's site visit and $35 at Lowe's for a new, less tightly woven filter. Problem solved. Don't go to Scatton's.

I was able to switch that out myself but I was still getting warm air. After reading some other reviews I had no doubt who I was going to call. J&M had great reviews everywhere I looked. After my experience with them, I can absolutely understand why and thoroughly agree with all those reviews. I called and Phil answered the phone immediately. I wasn't sure when I would be available so I called my significant other to see if she could be there to meet him that day. Not only was he able to come out the same day, he was literally there 20 minutes after I told him she would be there waiting. In the end I simply needed a recharge. Fortunately he had the older freon available that my a/c unit needed. This stuff isn't cheap, but the charge was more than fair for the quick visit and the recharge. Phil had great communication and my a/c is blowing ice cold once again. There was plenty of opportunity to try and pull one over on my other half but that simply isn't what they do. They find the problem and fix the problem without trying to take advantage of the customer. It's difficult to find a company you can trust these days. He let us know that our 16-year-old system had about a year left, if that much. And was he right. When the system died completely a couple weeks ago, he suggested what we might do given that we had a matched furnace/AC of the same age, gave a quote, and told us about the PECO rebates. Our new AC/furnace system was installed today and it works like a charm. Phil cares about his customers and does great work. He is reliable, responsible, friendly, and an expert at what he does. I had scheduled my day around them coming--they didn't know the employees didn't come to work until 1215? There was no way they could have let me know sooner and respected my time? They're offering to give me another appointment window that they don't think they can make? Why would I ever take that option? I've decided to go with someone else. His team showed up early, put down mats - then were on the roof, back and forth to the attic ... and efficiently done within a few hours. The white carpeting upstairs was spotless (ha, maybe even cleaner) after he left, so I know his guys worked carefully removing the old unit and shuffling equipment around. Before they left, they explained the new thermostat and made sure I didn't have any questions. Dan himself followed up with a text message to check in on us. He clearly cares about the work he does and wants to ensure customers are happy ... we're happy and now warm!
