Driving to NY from Maine. Looking for a good NY delicatessen so put that in my phone and Carle Place came up. Having commuted from Hicksville to Manhasset when I lived on the island I remember some good delis in this area. Carle Place Deli came up first so that's where we went. A typical delicatessen with refrigerators on one side of building, chips and sides in the middle and then the working area with Boars head meats and cheese. Son need a restroom and they were kind enough to allow him to use theirs. There are no public restrooms here. While we waited I cruised the menu and cases and did notice a German cuisine vibe, the Roladin especially. We have a family recipe for. We were there for lunch so hero's in the agenda. Had a hard time choosing but we both ultimately chose The Lumberjack; breaded chicken with bacon and melted mozzarella. Lettuce and tomato to finish off. Grabbed our sandwiches and drinks and we were off and running. Opened our hero's to discover we could have easily shared just one! They are HUGE well worth the price paid. This is a hidden gem in the heart of Nassau County and one of the best German delis I know. I used to work in Westbury and this was always my go to deli for lunch and breakfast sandwiches and hot lunch specials. Their store made potato, macaroni, cole slaw and other salads are the best! The Carle Place Village Delicatessen once again recently (12/10/22) catered the Annual Hessian Dinner Party and the traditional German food was outstanding, consistent with the previous year. Rich Laurelli (the new owner) was there himself and was serving the guests along with a staff member. The food was delicious and served hot. Rich seemed to take great pride in the quality of the food he served. I look forward to paying a visit to the Carle Place Village Delicatessen and seeing all the food choices and enjoy a good meal. Village deli has been a staple in CarLe place for many many years recently they sold the deli and for the last six months the shelves have been empty with no beverages in the cases no groceries on the shelf and recently they changed the recipes for the salads. I got the potato salad macaroni salad and coleslaw and sadly we had a throw them out and it tasted like they came from a factory. I hope the new owners realize why they bought the store was for the fresh good food and outstanding service the prior owners showed to their patrons. Additionally it seems that they raised the prices. I probably won't go to this place for 2 to 3 months until they worked out the issues of why they bought this delicatessen. read more

Stopped there the other day to grab a sandwich and potato salad before work , guy that helped me had no gloves on and his fingers and hand touching the inside of the container he was about to scoop my potato salad in to , I told him to stop and he just looked surprised. Surprise dude , I like some cleanliness and sanitary conditions when it comes to my food. I have been going here since it was Rhodes , and it was still pretty good as Village Deli , but it seems like they are hiring people who can't even speak and have no concept of food preparation and cleanliness. Been in here many times and always think because it is crowded it will be so much better than it is. Today was a perfect example. There was a young woman in there who clearly did not want to work so getting her to take my order was like pulling teeth. My sandwich was not good. I don't know what kind of turkey they use, but clearly it's not Boars Head. The salads were not good either. Looks can be deceiving. Next time I go to "Capers" in Westbury or even "On A Roll", at least they use Boars Head products even if you don't remember to ask. read more

This deli makes good egg sandwiches because the rolls they use. I would go somewhere else except no one local uses really good rolls. The eggs are ok. The problem with this place is they do not always get your order right. They stand and argue with you rather than remedy the problem. Been going there for about 30 years and the food is usually good but recently this place has gone downhill. The last straw was when we were charged almost double the price for egg sandwiches after 11:30 am (it was 11:40 and the sandwiches were called in at 11 am). I guess it costs extra to ring someone up at 11:31. It makes no sense. They don't tell you about the price hike and when I asked to remove the extra cost they just say there's nothing they can do. Been coming here about 7 years now, it's the only non kosher deli in the immediate area. They're usually pretty consistent with good sandwiches, which is all I ever get from here. They have like 12 workers behind the counter so be prepared to be asked if you're being helped 11 times while you wait for your order. Reasonable prices, plus make sure to get a sandwich card for a free one after 10 sandwich purchases. Small building and a parking lot that could use some work loses points for me. Oh, and if you park in the parking lot try not to die as you leave, because on-screen parking blocks the views of oncoming cars both ways. read more

I'll give them two stars for the food because the cold salads (health salad, mac/potato, etc) are good but their prices are insane for the portion size you receive. They really should be ashamed of themselves for this. Sad to see too because I love supporting local businesses but when there are deli's all over surrounding communities, you offer me no choice but to go somewhere else. DO NOT buy a wrap here!! Barely any meat and cheese and like other reviewers have mentioned, they up charge for any additional items added. This is really a solid deli that has a great niche between location, clientele and product that they provide. The food here is made fresh daily on the premises and the inside is kept clean and tidy, a typical sign of a good place. The hot food selections vary daily and sandwiches are huge and really good. All the salads are super fresh, not just said to be, and the potato salad is to die for! This deli is the only place I have seen that has pro's working there! Most of the guys here have been here for many years...no one quits, and they can take a line running to the door and get it done in quickly. They are pros. Go at noon and see for yourself. I placed an order for delivery and they miss understood the order. I placed a call to correct the situation and was told that it would be corrected. later received a call back from a rude Manger stating that the order was done correct and too bad we are not going to correct it. He referred to a early time in which a hero was ordered and they sent a club roll for a $10. Sandwich. He thinks that i have nothing better to do then to correct his errors. I work for a busy Urgent Care in Carle Place and order out Daily from many different locations. Not a trouble maker as He thinks, just want my order correct and will never order from them again. Once one of the finest delis in the area but has greatly changed. The quality of the food is not consistent. The prices are higher than surrounding delis. Had an order completed incorrectly and when I called I was asked, "Did you eat it?" and when I replied yes we did, they asked me what do I expect from them. Recently picked up a breakfast sandwich on rye toast. The toast was badly burned and the burned surface was placed on the inside portion so it could not be seen. But they do; Village Deli charges extra for everything, so if you decide to put cheese on that hero, you'd best prepare to take out a second mortgage to pay for it. And though the staff is generally friendly, sometimes they make mistakes that make me question why I still go there. I have been using the Carle Place Village Deli for over 10 years and I have never been disappointed. I admit the prices are slightly higher than other delis in the area but the quality and service is a quantum leap above the others. The store is always neat and clean and the food always looks fresh, nothing looks like it's been laying around. Five days a week they have a very full selection of hot food either on sandwiches or on plates. There is a lengthy list of heroes and sandwiches or they will custom make any sandwich you want and charge accordingly. There are also a large selection of beverages of all types and snacks, candy and even ready made salads and wraps for you to grab and run. They even do outside catering of hot and cold food and they cater BBQ's in the summer! It's always fully staffed so there is little wait time even during the morning and lunch rush time.
