Terrible customer service! If I could give zero stars I would Two years ago on New Year's Eve I was married in Las Vegas. We celebrated with a cake from Carlos bakery. All was good I watched their show from the beginning and it was a dream of mine to have one of their cakes. So last year for our first anniversary we decided we were going to get another cake. A bigger better cake. An over 200 dollar cake. We live near cape cod so the closest Carlos was in Mohegan sun casino. It was a 1 1/2 hour drive one way but we were determined to get that cake. I ordered and paid in September. Again our anniversary wasn't until new years. New Year's Eve comes and we make the drive. Only to find out the store was closed. Not just closed but it wasn't even there anymore. Nobody ever called us. We never got a refund. How could a company like this do this to me?!?! A first anniversary party with no cake. I called many numbers. No answers no return calls. Finally through email I get a response and after a few days of me sending my receipt and such I finally got a refund. It was a fight to get it. They told me they were sorry and if I gave them my address they'd ship me some treats to try to make up for a ruined party. No treats ever came. I emailed and emailed some more only to be ghosted Well guess what? Almost one year later, I get an email. The email was to remind me that it was my anniversary and I should order a cake. WTF the nerve! So last Friday I email them back again. No response This year for our anniversary we are going to NYC I always wanted to go to their store in Hoboken. So I was craving some red velvet cake but I didn't want a whole cake so I bought the single slice from Walmart. First it smelled weird when I opened it but I still tried it. I have to say it tastes nothing like the red velvet I'm used to. It was not even close. I remember watching cake boss growing up and he played a part in why I became a baker. We've known about Carlo's for years, but could never get into the bakery since the lines were always insanely long. We got lucky on our last visit to Jersey and the lines were almost nonexistent, so we decided to stop in for a snack. The cakes are definitely pretty and the rainbow cake is as fun as you'd expect it to be. We opted for pastries though and we got one Zeppole and one tiramisu. The lobster tail was absolutely amazing. Crispy layered light dough with a custard type filling on the inside. Great portion and taste (love the crisp of it). The black and white cookie was just okay. The service was good as there were only two ladies working behind the counter. It is quite overpriced in my opinion but that's to be expected. They helped him for over 5 minutes never even acknowledging we were there. Finally one of the girls helped us. At first we thought we wanted the pre packed box with 4 cannolis and 2 lobster tails. Then we realized we couldn't pick our cannolis so we told her we wanted to pick. She looked at us and said, that is going to be a lot more expensive." We said yeah we for that. We ate in the bake shop. The lobster tails were pretty good. They were filled with cream. The cannolis were average regular, chocolate, and peanut butter. We did. Or try birthday cake. I have had Carlo's bakery a few times since I used to live in Hoboken. Their cakes are awesome and make a great gift for anyone. Typically on weekdays they are not crowded at all so it is very easy to grab a quick treat. Seating wise, there is not a lot of seating available but they have great TO-GO containers. Personally, I would skip on the sweets except for their cannolis which are fabulous. I come here for the cakes, they are famous for their cakes and I have driven 1 hour up to grab one from this particular bakery. Ambiance is overall mid but the service is great. The bakery has a more lowkey vibe to it. Overall, I enjoy coming here and will be back for my cakes in the future! I've tried Carlo's at other places but haven't been to their own location. There is a great selection of baked goods all on display with a menu board with all the pricing listed out. Ideally I'd like the price signs next to the actual items so there's less looking back and forth, but it's nice when things are listed. I only got the chocolate covered cannoli since it seems like a unique item. It had a nice crunchy chocolate shell and filled with a sweet cream. It was delicious, but at $5.25 it's a little expensive for a treat. I like the selection of baked items, but yes it's on a more pricey side vs. other places. It's near the park with a view of NYC and near the Hoboken train station. A nice stop in the area and can take the goods to a scenic view. The staff was helpful and prompt. Who wants to eat some cake? I haven't been watching Cake Boss like I should due to momma hood. When we were heading back to Newark to fly out, we had time to pop in for a sweet snack before going to the airport. There wasn't a line when we got there at 10:30 a.m., but there was a group of 20 people that came in shortly after us. The bakery offers anything you can imagine. I went for a rainbow cake for us to share and our kids split a M&M cookie. The prices are a little on the high side and it's understandable since it's paying for the company itself. There is even nationwide shipping if you want to send some sweet love in a package. We were able to get ahead in the line since the staff saw we were there before the crowd arrive since we weren't ready with our order. They got our items to us and thanked us for coming in. While we were outside on a bench eating our treats, I saw Mauro and Grace (two family members on Cake Boss) walk in to start their daily routine. What a disappointment.... Buddy what happened to the Crumb Cake? It is nothing like it was! The format and the recipe has definitely changed for the worse. The last time I had it was a couple of years back, it was made on a sheet pan. The cake was thick and moist with a ton of yummy buttery crumbs on top and the counter employees would cut a slab and box it. Omahgah RAINBOW CAKE!! With all the catastrophes and bad energy in the world right now, what I really wanted was a colorful dazzling sprinkle loaded cake for my birthday. Sprinkles Cupcakes came out with their rainbow layer cake last year for Pride month and again this past June, but it's only available one month of the year. What's a girl to do? Somehow, FB or IG heard my prayers and I saw an ad for Goldbelly featuring Carlo's Bakery! I remember watching Buddy Valastro on Cake Boss many years ago and enjoyed their imaginative and functional cake designs come to life from the hands of their cool and talented staff. Seems like a fun business team to be a part of. Anyone remember the Hot Wheels race car track made of cake?? Carlo's Bakery has three kinds of rainbow cakes: original white vanilla frosted, chocolate fudge, and pink strawberry (which I sent to one of my besties for her bday last month). Each one comes fully rolled in multi color sprinkles! Check out the demo video on their IG to see 3 cakes constructed in 8 min. I heard vanilla frosting is the sweetest. I love chocolate so fudge for me! The cake is very dense as well but each colorful layer is pretty to look at! Bright and vibrant. I opted to get assorted individually packed slices to bring for work lunch because of virus restrictions. No sharing food at work, they say. The assorted 8 is extremely convenient and you can try multiple flavors! Add on an additional 8 slices for only $25 more! What a steal. I received 2 slices each of: vanilla rainbow, chocolate fudge rainbow, strawberry rainbow, carrot, red velvet, confetti, chocolate fudge, and cookies n cream. I had a slice of the latter, which I fondly call Oreo; that was amazing! Not as sweet as I expected. Dark chocolate cake layers with a crushed dark cookie buttercream. This was my favorite. I have to mention the small box of rainbow cookies I devoured. Swedish Princess cake is one of my favorites treats of all time and these Italian rainbow cookies composed of 7 precise layers of tricolored almond cake, raspberry & apricot jams, plus thin coatings of melted dark chocolate remind me of the yellow cake and light marzipan. It's all about the almond. Being from the West Coast, I had no idea rainbow cookies are a staple on the other end of the country. I've been to NY twice but didn't get to visit any local bakeries which I'm sure carry rainbow cookies and those round frosted black and white cookies. These are fairly small and you can eat a couple without feeling too bad. The 3"x5" box itself had 24 cute little cookies nestled inside its shrink wrap. Here in CA we have Sprinkles Cupcakes ATMs (mainly SoCal) but on the East Coast and parts of Canada they have Carlo's Bakery ATMs with rainbow slices available 24/7. Lucky ducks. Then again, I'd gain a whole lot of weight if we had those so never mind. Forgot to mention the cakes were packaged with dry ice and despite the almost 100 degree weather last week, the ice held up pretty well. The cake slices were still frozen. Couldn't leave Jersey without visiting the famous Carlo's Bakery! We went during the week later in the day, so there was no line (thank goodness!). I was surprised that the also served regular food, pizza of course. But we were definitely there for the sweets! I was anticipating there being much more of a selection of goodies, but maybe I was just being greedy....I guess it was sufficient. You had your option of a couple of cookie options, three or four cakes, cannolis, about three different cupcakes, a few cheesecakes, and a couple more items. Ok so my fiancé was in Hoboken and decided to stop at Carlo's Bakery for some sweets .it a very nice place and the servers were friendly.But this place is triple the price of everyone else for a 29 square radius and it's really not that good .I actually felt disrespected by how expensive everything was and the quality was just below average.the cream puffs were 10 bucks for 4 and they were just bigger than a quarter .the cannolis were 5.75 each (overpriced +a dollor ) and the cream tasted life the fridge ..it was the smallest lobster tail I have ever seen and that put the minimum of cream ..I normally do not complain but it was ridiculously over priced and below average. The women working the shop were super sweet and helpful. The bakery is also in such a cute part of town, there's tons of other things to do around there as well. I've read a lot of reviews complaining of how expensive it is; which to be fair, it's not cheap. But neither is life. The treats are great and it's totally worth the trip. read more

I never, ever right reviews but i felt the need. My wife and I both grew up eating at the bakery for years and when we both moved out of Hoboken years ago, we have not found a bakery like Carlos. Time and time again, we both tried to go get some goodies from there but there was always a line. For the first time yesterday evening, i managed to drive by and noticed there was no line. I was so excited to surprise my wife when i got home with 2 of our favorite things to eat, a canoli and a crunchy lobster tail. The entire ride home, my mouth was watering and i finally was so happy to come home and tell my wife, look at what i got us for dessert tonight. Unfortunately both the lobster tail and canoli was not fresh at all, too the point that my wife did not eat a quarter of what i brought home. Very disheartening because not only did our families grow up eating at the bakery all the time but i personally know a member that works there and he has never provided any of us with tasteless, soggy, obvious its been there for days pastries. I went to Carlo's bakery today. 4-12-22 I had bought a box of 5 canolli's Let me say absolute dog shit. This was by far the worst canolli I had in a long time. The filling had no flavor the shell was soggy. For 24$ I could of went to a real bakery and got good canolli's I had asked the lady can I get the canolli's freshly filled. She said no everything is filled in advance. I can't wait to see buddy at the exon so I can tell him he should be ashamed at that garbage. I would love to be proved wrong. Buyer BEWARE! I ordered a rainbow cake for a party, along with a 16 pack of black and white cookies. My order was placed on May 22 for a Saturday delivery on May 28. I received notice that the order had shipped on Friday, May 27. The order did not arrive on Saturday as expected. It didn't arrive on Sunday. And still not on Monday. I contacted Carlos Bakery to complain that the order had not arrived in time for my event and that I expected a refund of the nearly $200 they charged for the cake, cookies, and special priority overnight shipping. Carlos Bakery responded that the order must be lost and that at this point, even if it did arrive, it would (in their words) "NOT BE SAFE TO CONSUME." At that point (three days PAST the delivery target) they offered me a voucher for another purchase. I responded that a voucher is not acceptable and that I expected a full refund. They told me that a refund is not possible, as they simply do not offer refunds once an item is shipped. I responded to Carlos Bakery demanding a refund and explained that I was prepared to contact my credit card company to file a complaint. Carlos Bakery once again sent me an email restating their position that refunds are not issued, but that they understood how important it was to me and offered a "one time exception" to give me a refund. Their ridiculous email reads: "We do NOT offer refunds for delays caused by one of our shipping partners due to weather, mechanical error, strikes, natural disaster, inaccurate shipping information, mistakes on the part of our shipping partner's, or similar reasons that are outside of our control. That said, we know how important it is for your package to be delivered on time, this error is on UPS as the shipping service used showed next day delivery and our system automatically assigns the appropriate label. We will make a one time exception and have processed a full refund." Carlos Bakery maintains that UPS screwed up. That's absurd. The shipping label originated by Carlos Bakery (see the pic below) clearly states "UPS GROUND." Carlos Bakery knew that they'd screwed up, but they were too stubborn to admit it. Instead, they made it seem as if they were doing me a huge favor by graciously offering me a refund. Yes, I got the refund. And I was happy with their "one time" exception because that's all I will ever need, in the whole of my life, from now until I die. I will never ever order from Carols Bakery again. This company is riding on the owner's Cake Boss fame, and they do not give two craps about their product or their customer. BTW, the cake finally did arrive. Pictures are below. The first picture shows what it looked like when I opened the box. The second picture shows the cake more clearly as I opened the plastic wrapping. The third pic, as mentioned above, is of the shipping label showing the UPS GROUND shipping status selected by Carlos Bakery. DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS AWFUL COMPANY.
