On Saturday, May 9th my wife and I decided to go to Carlos for an early dinner. We arrived about 4:25pm, approached the hostess station and asked to be seated in Tino's section. The young woman working at the hostess station told us that Tino had "too many tables". We were bummed because we have known Tino for over 20 years at 2 different restaurants and he always provides sterling service. We understood and the hostess proceeds to seat us in the main dining area. We passed many empty tables and ended up in the last 1/2 booth by the kitchen entrance and the service area at the back of the dining room. My wife asked me what I was thinking about the table. I told her I wanted to leave and she agreed. She felt like we were punished for asking for a server we know and trust. We got up, left the restaurant and went to Popo's at 59th Ave and Bell Road and had a wonderful meal. Management, I kindly suggest that you get a hostess with manners to great your customers. After all, the hostess is the first impression customers get of your restaurant.

My family and I recently dined in for a quick lunch. The service and ambience of the restaurant was really nice and the waiter was quick to take our order. We enjoyed some spinach queso as an appetizer along with our salsa. I absolutely loved the queso, though it tasted more like a beer cheese dip for a pretzel than basily. Though you can't go wrong with cheese, we finished it quickly. My family also enjoyed the beef tacos, green corn tamale, and the Carne Asada. Overall pretty solid options. For my lunch, I enjoyed a side of refried beans and rice with a flour tortilla. Their tortilla was super fresh and hot, it was absolutely perfect to eat with my side of beans and rice. The proportions were also great as well. Overall, we enjoyed our dining experience.

They're great we come here all the time really good food and complimentary chips just that they never used to charge for drinks on combos, but now they do. Now they're as expensive as everyone else out there. Still, good food and atmosphere.

How have I not reviewed this place before? I've only been to this location a couple of times, but I use to be a huge fan of the one on Northern and 12th Street. I loved that old building and it's charm. I remember the host that worked there made sure that the customers had chips and salsa within 15 seconds of sitting down at the table. No lie, it was incredible. This place lacks the charm of the original location and the food has taken a bit of a dip in quality. The chips took a little longer than "the old days", but still quicker than most other places else. The salsa is as excellent as ever. This is more Americanized Mexican food, which is not a bad thing, just different. I've always loved their cheese crisps, but they are not as good as they used to be. Same thing with their enchilada sauce, as the cheese enchiladas were my normal "go to". I will probably go back, but it's now average rather than exceptional. 3 1/2/ stars

We enjoyed another good meal at Carlos O'Brien's at Norterra. I had my usual Chili Relleno w refried beans. My wife had a Shredded beef Taco and Rice. We were both very satisfied with the food.

The cocktails were good. The servings were good sized and three of us took home part of our meals. The prices were fair and i would order the same again. Now the not so Good: It was difficult to find. We ended up parking a fair distance away. There was not room for us (6) indoors.... I'll know next time to reserve a table. The patio was dirty, bird dropping all over the railings and floors. It felt like lunchroom aftermath. I would have really appreciated a cushion on the mesh metal chairs. Being outside led to slow and forgotten service. There were some timing problems with our drinks and appetizers (forgotten). Then they showed up about two minutes before the salads and entrees. Our server took full responsibility and that was awesome. It seems like a great place... just a few tweaks will take it up a notch. String some lights , put some paraphernalia on the tables. Maybe even some bread.

Ordered the large size beef and chicken bowl with side veggies and 4pc gyoza. The portions are very generous, this one bowl can easily feed 2 people. To give credit where it's due, the ambience of the restaurant was great. The live music was enjoyable and the dancing created a fun atmosphere. The women's restroom was also impressive -- clean, well stocked, and the mirror with the neon sign made for a great photo moment. Unfortunately, the service and food did not live up to the setting. Our waitress appeared overwhelmed and, at times, came across as outright rude. I understand the pressures of working in a busy restaurant, but hospitality is still the foundation of the service industry. I actually found myself going out of my way to "kill her with kindness" just to avoid receiving the same snarky tone she used with some of my friends. It worked -- she was civil with me -- but it shouldn't take that level of effort from guests. The food was where things really fell apart. The buffet setup was poorly executed. The foil buffet pans repeatedly slipped into the chafing water, which ended up soaking the food. Any experienced food service professional knows the proper way to handle this: bring the replacement pan first and swap them out simultaneously. Instead, the staff removed the empty pans and walked back to the kitchen, leaving empty slots in the buffet while guests waited. As a result, several dishes were compromised. The mac and cheese was completely runny, clearly diluted from water getting into the pan. This happened to multiple items. The fried pickles were also a miss -- not crispy, extremely salty and sour, and tasted like low-quality hamburger dill pickle chips that had been breaded and fried. No one at our table enjoyed them and several people commented that they were far too tangy. There also seemed to be serious communication issues between the kitchen and the floor staff. Buffet items were frequently empty and slow to be replaced. The "salad," if you could call it that, was essentially a bowl of lettuce with no tomatoes, cucumbers, or vegetables -- just plain greens. Toward the end of service, the restaurant even ran out of dinner plates, leaving remaining guests to use small salad plates. The only items I somewhat enjoyed were the margarita pizza flatbread and the bacon jalapeño wontons, which were decent but nothing memorable. Beyond that, my meal consisted mostly of a bowl of very uninspired lettuce. As someone who has worked in the restaurant industry, it genuinely pains me to leave such a critical review. I don't write this out of spite, but out of hope that management sees it as an opportunity to evaluate what's happening on the floor and in the kitchen. There is clearly potential here given the atmosphere and entertainment. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I don't see myself returning anytime soon.
