It's been over a year since I've started coming to Carlos Restaurante and Cantina. I've been here about once a month and enjoy it very much. Carlos has excellent food. I've had everything from Ceviche, Chicken & Beef Enchiladas, Ensuiza and Mole Enchiladaa, Chile Rellenos, Carnitas, Fajitas and other specialty dishes. They have all been good-some great and some are favorites that I have over and over again. I just had a dessert for the first time-usually, I am too full. Tonight, I had flan and while it is different than I am used to, it is a tasty treat. Service is top notch and servers are very knowledgeable about the menu and meals. Prices have changed very little in almost 1 1/2 years which is nice considering how other places have changed multiple times in that same time. Ambiance is very beautiful and comfortable with murals at the booths making you feel like you're in Mexico. Extra commendations to Junior who has helped us almost every time. Enjoyed our dinner here. Was promptly seated with chips & salsa. The chips were plentiful but the salsa lacked heat. Where were the chiles? I had chicken chimichanga and hubby ordered vegetable mole. The mole had nice bite to it and was devoured. My chicken chimichanga was cooked right. Shredded boiled chicken and firm tortilla was nice, but again... where's the heat? Beans and rice were nice but a bit thin. Will try other dishes soon. read more

We were in town visiting friends and stopped in for some dinner, we started with the potato skins which were delicious! I had the special of the night which was shrimp enchiladas with rice and beans and a watermelon margarita, my husband had the ground beef enchiladas with rice and beans. The food was amazing!!! While visiting my brother in Oregon, I was determined to find a Mexican restaurant that would taste a tad bit like original Mexican food. After a little research I found this place and I was not disappointed. The service was great, we asked for a table under the big tree outside and they were very accommodating. Nice atmosphere, with a friendly and attentive staff. The chips and salsa were great. Had the Cadillac Margarita which was excellent. The food was delicious and served hot. I had the carnitas burrito. Definitely a find the the small town of Winston, OR. Would definitely come back when traveling through the area. read more

Absolutely the best service and food around. We had pollo a la Diablo and Carlos's margarita and it was perfect! A must go!

It was an ok time out we got seated fast then we order our drink I was unsure of what I wanted so my boyfriend got a doctor pepper and I got a sprite then I ordered a mango margarita blinded and it wasn't good very strong could only taste the tequila. Of course they gave us chips and salsa but when it came to our chips being empty a lady named Maria asked if we wanted more and before we could say anything she just grabbed it and came back and slammed the chips down with very little chips in them. Ok. In all truthfulness, we're in a blue collar town with lots of residents who don't make to much money. In Oregon visiting family and decided to stop at this spot after visiting Wildlife Safari. Such a bad choice - so much regret. It took a couple minutes for someone to notice we walked into the restaurant/were waiting on the lobby area but not the biggest deal. We were a party of 9 people - 4 kids and 5 adults (1baby not counting) - so I thought it would be a minute to seat us but we were actually seated in the very back room right away once our presence was noticed by a young guy in a black shirt. So pretty spacious room to ourselves. Chips and salsa were brought out by a lady in a red shirt. Downhill from there. 5 minutes after the lady gives us chips and salsa an older man in a green shirt comes by to take our drink order. Fairly simple - 5 waters, a coke, an ice tea, a sprite, and a root beer. 9 people - 9 drinks. Approximately 5 minutes go by, more chips and salsa from red shirt lady/no drinks. Finally drinks come - tea, sprite,coke, root beer, 2 waters. Approximately 10 minutes then go by with no server contact. Now mind you several looked in at us through the doorway and we all turned and looked back at them but they would not come over, like we were lepers or something! Green shirt man finally comes to take our order and during that time we ask for the remaining 3 waters. He brings back 2. Still one water short to one kid. The food took about 10 minutes to arrive after ordering which is not a bad turn around but by then we were stuffed with chips and salsa and our drinks since that's all we had for the past 25/30 minutes to occupy ourselves. Drinks are not free refill either by the way , so maybe all the waiting is a ploy to make you buy more soft drink refills? Food was very bland. No salt or seasoning. I'm from Southern California so slightly snobbish when it comes to Mexican food but this didn't even meet basic standards. The check came fast enough. After handing my card over, my family was able to pack up/take their to go food and load up in the car and even then I still had not gotten the return back to sign. Finally I guess they noticed me sitting alone for 10 minutes waiting on the receipt to sign so a new blue shirt guy comes over and says "sorry for the wait". I'm almost crying from how hilariously accurate that phrase explains the whole meal process. So I'm not from around here, won't come again, and would not recommend to anyone else who is from here. read more

Carlos Restaurant is considered our best place to stop for dinner while we travel from/to distances. Their food is not very spicy and but sometimes the salsa helps. My husband usually orders a shredded beef taco and a chili relleno meal, I order a la carte shredded beef taco and relleno. Can't tell you how surprised we where when our tacos have shrunk to taquito size, literally half the original Carlos taco. I understand prices are up so maybe adding another dollar to the taco price might be in order, but return to the full sized taco, please! read more

Our party of 5 needed two sets of special accommodations, and we were readily provided them. Second, the food was delicious: chips were hot and fresh, salsa was fresh (although they had absolutely nothing spicy available), and my flautas meal with rice and beans was phenomenal. Everyone enjoyed their food; only one of us had anything leftover to bring home! Service was friendly and just right for attentiveness. We were talking so much that we didn't realize they had closed and they were too nice to tell us! We aren't local but our friends are, and they are already planning to go back. read more

We just moved here & hadn't really found a good Mexican Restaurant. After asking around, we tried the one most recommend. We were met at the front door immediately & felt welcome! I ordered a margarita & hubby ordered a Heff Beer which were both very good. For our lunch I ordered a chili relleno which I loved! Very flavorful & spicy! He ordered a tamale which was so good with shredded beef & yummy gravy. Home made salsa was also very tasty! I've been here multiple times in the past, however today me and my family stopped by for lunch but not even 4 minutes later left due to poor service due to the fact that I had brought my service dog. I was told that we would be put in the back of the restaurant so that my dog would not be visible to other customers, and that I also needed to show a "permit card" for my service animal which is not even a thing !! A business cannot ask for any identification, medical information, or training papers... however they may what task the animal provides, and if it is a service animal. People with disabilities who use service animals cannot be isolated from other patrons, or treated less favorably than other patrons. I will not be returning any longer. read more

We have eaten at Carlos's several times & the food & service has been wonderful until a week ago. Service was a joke. We were seated & that was it. I had to get up & go ask for chips & salsa even tho the guy was there & saw us come in but was to busy talking to someone to bother to bring chips etc. Then came the meal, no on ever checked to see if everything was OK or did we need anything. I had to hunt then down for napkins. Then again I had to hunt them down for go box's & the same for the bill. The food was great as usual but the service was the worst we have ever had. This kind of service is unacceptable to say the least. We may go back but if we get this kind of treatment again we will not return. I was in this place today and have been here many times, but today was the worst I was with a group of women we had a reservation but we walked in and the person had no idea we had one, then we go into our room no silverware. we all sat there talked a bit the waiter got our drinks, took a little longer then usual. but the amount of time we had to wait to order our food was an hour, we got there at 1:00 then it seemed to me another 45 min, before we got our food, I am aware of the shortage of employees you may be experiencing, but you had the reservations on the books and should have planned to have more employees. when the food did come it wasn't real Hot like it alway's is it was luke warm along with the plates the food came on usually you can't touch it, but today it wasn't very disapointed in service today. read more

My husband is generous tipper & in the 45 yrs we've been together I've only seen one time he was upset enough not to leave a tip. Tonight was #2. The service was deplorable. One caveat, I am very fussy about Mexican food and like "gourmet Mexican". However, when you're on the road and going through a smallish town, you know the Mexican food will not be gourmet. I decided to be healthy so I had the vegan zucchini burrito and I was happy with my meal. My daughter will eat bean and cheese burritos any day of the week and she polished off a massive burrito. For my taste the red sauce was nondescript. My other daughter had carne asada tacos which were ok, meat a little overcooked. My husband had the chicken in mole enchiladas and thought they weren't bad. Food gets three stars. The service gets five stars.
