    $1 oyster happy hour
    Pamela K.

Carlota just opened and it is a quaint spot with amazing service and $1 oyster happy hour! I had a perfect visit at Carlota for their $1 oyster happy hour! My server was unbelievably sweet and worked with the bartender to create a non-alcoholic apperolly spritz for me (which was delicious!). I was treated well even though I just ordered oysters and a cocktail -- some places make you feel unwelcome during happy hour, but my server and the staff at Carlota were great. I noticed the other patrons around me were being well cared for too. Their happy hour menu has lots of yummy bites and drink options besides the oysters. 1000% recommend Carlota (which is a sister restaurant to a classic favorite, Bar Belly, next door.

The bar tender is the sweetest. We only enjoyed cocktails including the la Lola and Pedro espresso. Super tasty. Price is normal. But the bartender is phenomenal! Cute vibe. Sit at the bar for a little quiet chatting.

they had a pretty good happy hour deal- we spent just $90 for plenty of tapas for 4 of us and a pitcher of sangria. the mushroom croquettes were particularly delicious, and the sangria was also really yummy. loved the vibe and the servers were also very friendly. def a great happy hour spot

3.5 would be more accurate. Reasonably tasty Spanish food, I enjoyed the croquettes and basque cheesecake the most. The Spanish octopus, patatas bravas and ensalada were just ok. Good happy hour with drinks and small bites. Younger crowd and extremely loud, almost impossible to hear the conversation at my table.

We came to Carlota on the LES for their happy hour and the $1 oysters, tapas, wine, and sangria were all delicious at such a great price! Happy hour is Wed-Sat 5-7pm and all day Sun & Tues. Service was warm and welcoming, checking in frequently to ask us if we wanted anything additional. Some restaurants are a little rude to restaurant patrons so glad that wasn't the case here! Food items ordered were patatas bravas ($6), pan con tomate ($6), croquetas, mushroom and Serrano ham ones ($7 each), and a dozen oysters. The oysters were fairly small, but you get what you pay for. Only complaint was for the pan con tomate, where the bread was kind of soggy so I would avoid next time. Vibes were great overall though, would recommend!

Everything's up to par, flavor, consistency and service. Casual place with phenomenal food that beats any high end restaurant. There, that's the review

We went for happy hour and also shared a main entree and dessert. $1 oysters.. had to get a dozen. L really loved them and it was perfect with the soy ginger mignonette. Lil small but very clean tasting. We wouid've gotten another dozen but we were so full after everything.. The patatas bravas were surprisingly delicious. So crispy.. lil tasty treats.. sauce is just a tiny bit spicy. I'm a fan of bacalao so I liked my croquetas but L didn't like his with jamon. Croquetas are like maybe 2 bites each for a female. Small portion. We also got Sangria and a beer but also a Don Juan for L. The D.J. was a lil too light so not a favorite but the Sangria and beer was quite good. L really wanted to try the steak dish since we've been eating a lot of salad.. it comes with a good amount of fries and some peppers. I just took a few bites to sample the meat and shared half the fries since I was pretty full. Good fries but the patatas were better. Steak was cooked very well. Medium.. It's hangar steak so some parts were harder to chew but it was still very tasty. The cheesecake was recommended online so we had to order it. L loved it. It was really creamy in the center. The burnt parts did make it taste less sweet than other cheesecakes and the wild cherries were also very good. I wouldn't say it's a must try... but if you like cheesecake... then you should try it, I guess. Our server was really nice. We ordered a lot in comparison to other tables.. She refilled everyone's water glasses every time it got low. The place is small so it got full really quickly. It is a lil noisy but everyone was having a good time. Another server started workin her shift, also really nice. Prices are more reasonable during happy hour. So we did partial HH and reg menu. Would def recommend this place. We enjoyed our meal here, compared to other restaurants I've been to in lower Manhattan... will come back if we're in the area again.

Visited here for cinco de mayo and I'm happy we stopped in! While we originally intended to come for brunch, once we realized they (I'm assuming) did not have their liquor license and their cocktails were mainly wine based, we decided just to get some lite bites instead of a full brunch since we did want to have some liquor for the holiday. The restaurant itself is very cozy and the waitress was very attentive. All of the apps pictured were so tasty, especially the sauce for the patatas bravas! I would happily come back at a different time because from the three bites we did have, it was good! The cocktails unfortunately tasted a bit too much like wine for us to enjoy.

I really didn't like the Safira drink. It tasted like I sprayed perfume in my mouth. I also ordered the shrimp. The flavor wasn't great. Heavily oiled shrimp. And to top it off, the skillet they serve it on burned me pretty bad. There was literally no space on the table for anything and they don't bring a tower to allow more space. This made it difficult to safely have this burning hot skillet in front of me. This happened from simply trying to place my hands in my lap, and my hand touched the skillet because it was partially hanging off the table.

If you're ever in the LES, this place is a MUST. Oysters, patatas bravas & a pitcher of their sangria (all on happy hour, you'll thank me later). Definitely a spot to try if you haven't!

Great tapas restaurant opened by the same team/owner that owns Bar Belly next door. Carlota's tapas menu features Spanish classics like patatas bravas, gambas al ajillo and other not-so-traditional things like the chorizo katsu sando. The patatas bravas was quite a bit more crisp than what I've had in other Spanish spots which I quite liked. Prices were reasonable for the area, service was attentive and friendly, and the place has great vibes for a date or weeknight hangout with friends. One thing that I should mention is that Carlota really stands out with is their vermouth menu. If you're fan of vermouth this is a great spot to check out.

Cozy vibe, though the seating can feel a bit tight if you're with a group. Great happy hour with delicious tapas and drinks. The staff were friendly and attentive. We got full after sampling everything on the happy hour menu, so we didn't get to try many main dishes. Definitely planning to come back.

Carlota made me feel like I transported myself back in Spain except the price differences between Spain and NYC dining prices. If you are hungry, three dishes and two vermouth drinks will cost around you around $114. In Spain, a vermouth drink costs 3 euros, but here, it is $12 dollars, which equates to $11.8 dollars. 25% difference in dining, not including tip. I would have a pregame meal before coming on an empty stomach. If you bring a date, it's easily a $250 meal for two. Food is delicious nevertheless. My favorite were the crispy patatas bravas, delicious boquerones on toast (vinegary taste), and the pulpo (octopus). It's a place to splurge once in a while.

And because I was looking forward to fondue that day, we decided to go with the regular menu. The base fondue was $24/pp which I think was really reasonable. I can eat the cheese all day) The fondue was served in a cast iron pot and you get baguette for the dipping. You can pay more for additional add ons but we decided to just stick with the baguette. ~ Two Skewers Plate (Kofte Colorado lamb, herbs, spices & Chicken yogurt, red pepper, herbs, spices) Served with house-made harissa and tzatziki, and a choice of mushroom bulgur or squash caponata. Initially I was worried the chicken skewers would be too dry ( as that is the case for a lot of places) but no, the chicken wasn't dry and it was well seasoned. I'm happy that I went. The tapas we tried were great. Patatas bravas were crispy on the outside, with a fluffy inside, and maybe a touch too much salt. The hamachi crudo was excellent, with a unique coconut and mango sauce that gave it a touch of sweet to go with the zest. And the pulpo was great, the octopus was well prepared and the sauce was hearty without dominating the taste. The half chicken was the most memorable dish; our server recommended it, and it's clear why. It was unbelievably juicy and tender, with plenty of lemon flavor in every bite. The table we sat at was quite large, and I think it could have fit a few more people. The staff was friendly, and the lighting wasn't too dark, nor was it too loud. While I liked the atmosphere, I found the food, or rather specifically the tapas, to be not good at best, while the main dishes were better but also ranged in quality. The fact that the tapas we ordered were pretty closely priced to the mains means I would recommend the mains only based on portion and taste alone. To drink, a bunch of us split a bottle of wine from their large and pretty reasonably priced selection. The first tapas that arrived was something that I could not eat. This was the Pulpo Zarautz for $32, listed as octopus with garlic and merken seasoning served over mashed baby potatoes. The dish was small, and people thought it was OK as they found the pieces of octopus a tad chewy. They liked the spices but were surprised that the potatoes were a bit cool. The $24 Gambas Al Ajillo, with slow-cooked prawns, white wine, EVOO, garlic, and mermen, was alright. There was a handful of shrimp, and they were decently cooked, but the "ajillo," or rather, the garlic, was very light. Therefore, I found it a bit bland, which is almost never the case for this dish. I wouldn't recommend this based on price and flavor. Last and least of the tapas was the $22 Tortilla De Patatas, listed simply as a Spanish omelette. There was an option to add chorizo for $2 more, which we did. Along with the omelette, this also arrived with a few sauces and some pieces of crunchy bread, which were the highlight, as the omelette wasn't good either. The texture of the omelette was very different than any other Spanish omelette I've ever had. It was quite soft with a bit of chew, with a mild chorizo flavor. Along with the greenish color, it wasn't exactly appetizing. I wouldn't recommend this at all, but thankfully, that was the last tapas we ordered. My favorite of the main dishes was the Solomillo & Pebre for $28, listed as skirt steak topped with parsley and olive oil, with hand-cut fried potato and salad. While not the most tender, as it is a skirt steak, it was still well-flavored with the topping almost reminding me, to an extent, of a less oily version of chimichurri. The potatoes had a unique texture, being slightly crispy on the outside while remaining slightly soft in the middle. The salad on the side, which also arrived with one of our other mains, was a tasty mix and certainly more effort than a typical salad you find in many of these places. We also liked the $32 Costillas De Cerdito, with pork ribs in beer, mustard, and rosemary with hand-cut fried potato and salad. The pork ribs were flavorful, though I did find a bit of it to be a bit fatty, but some of that is expected with pork ribs. The mildly sweet and slightly rich sauce paired with the pork ribs. The same comments from before can be made about the potatoes and salad. Last was the OK Paella De Mariscos for $38, listed as rice cooked with shrimp, mussels, clams, prawns, and fresh saffron. The portion size was good, with a lot of mussels and clams in particular, and a handful of shrimp. Of the bite I had of the two large prawns, they were plump and juicy as well. However, the rice was both a bit bland and a tad mushy and felt a bit overcooked compared to many other paellas. There was some socarrat on the bottom as per usual, which was the best part. It's a bit difficult to rate this place. The spices, textures, and flavors were lacking from the overpriced tapas, and I honestly wouldn't recommend any of them. For the main dishes, they were tasty, but you can get a better-cooked skirt steak at many other places for a similar price. The ribs were decent, and the paella was just OK. If we only had the tapas, I probably would be giving this place a 1, but for the whole meal, an upper 2, rounded up.
