Single Western Bacon Cheeseburger with no Patty because they didn't put one on. obviously didn't eat.

Got 3 sandwiches, spicy chicken, diablo burger, and a bacon western. They literally didn't give me a patty for my western burger :/

    Six Dollar Burger.
    Peter T.

I remember when Carl's first came out with this, the pitch was basically a "burger that tastes like it costs six dollars, but at a lower price," or some such. Apparently that six dollar burger will cost you close to six dollars now, and in a small combo? Seven bux plus. I rolled into our brand new neighborhood Carl's Jr., today, to fortify myself for a road trip I am leaving on shortly (yes, many burgers will be consumed!). This gleaming structure opened a couple months ago, replacing a KFC (which we miss, actually). The counter girl mumbled something about "Would you like to try our XXXXX six dollar burger?" And I replied, "why yes, I think I would." I glanced at the menu board and ordered the Original Six Dollar Burger combo (about $7.50), which is described on the Carl's website at charbroiled 100% Angus beef patty, two slices of melted American cheese, two slices of tomatoes, mayo, mustard, pickles, ketchup and red onions on a toasted sesame seed bun. I was the only dining room customer. The counter lady gave me my number and I waited - about 8 minutes. No sweat. Now, the difference between what I ordered and what I received? I received the big beef patty, between toasted sourdough bread, a couple kinds of cheese, and bacon. I know they used to offer something like that in the six dollar line, but I don't see it on the current menu. Whatever. It's pretty tasty. Unlike the "big 3", this patty actually tastes like beef. It's a shitload of calories and carbs, for sure. Carl's also features "natural cut fries" now (I have never figured out what "unnatural cut" would mean), and they were pretty OK. Better than Wendy's product of the same ilk. They still taste similar to an extruded product to me. Would I have it again? I think so. But maintaining my girlish figure would require me to skip the bread and fries. With a fork, the six dollar burger would be quite nice. I'd like to pay less, of course. And by the way? 100% Angus beef? Yawn. 80% of the beef cattle in the US are Angus. If it was 100% "Certified" Angus, that would be something to brag about.

Three ounce chicken sandwich for $7

This 3oz chicken burger cost me $7. The workers said this is the normal size. They could remake me the sand which but it would be the same. Would not recommend.

Clear sliced cut that's also been pushed back.

Lacking in customer service, attitude, and quality of food. Unfortunately, most of the Carl's Jrs have gone down and this is no exception.

Another good one is that kale salad with grilled chicken nuggets chopped into it. The mobile app situation is incredible. I place the order when we head out to the restaurant, and say I'm there about 5 minutes before we arrive (there's a spot where the timing is perfect) and we walk right in and it's ready. Store is neat and clean and staff is efficient. I've been to others that have friendlier or more chatty staff - however those were never locations I'd go to more than maybe once a year at best. So that said, I'll take fast, clean, quick and efficient over niceties any day. Even more impressive is that it's a very youthful staff so kudos to management too. Last reco - use the app you get points and free stuff quite often. My husband has gotten a brownie with points for every meal since after our first order, and the lake Oswego location offered a free fries for today's trip that we could double up with using points for his brownie!

Everything is ordering by kiosk and the food is what you would typically expect from McDonald's, crunchy chicken nuggets, iconic fries, but sadly my McDouble was dry and they forgot the sweet and sour sauce in the bag. I think they are really trying with their service and you can hear who I assume is the manager trying to motivate the young workers by telling everyone they are doing great job. But with that said, it's pure unorganized chaos. They keep running out of the table tent which means that multiple people are waiting on their order with the "same" table indicator number so that can get really confusing. In addition, I waited close to 30 minutes for my food and had to go up and try to flag someone down to ask where it is. If you have time to kill and plan to stay awhile it might be ok, otherwise I wouldn't suggest coming here if you were in a hurry or expect your order to be correct the first time.

Today I decided to try again...sadly my rating will not change. First off I sat at the drive thru order mic for over 5 minutes. After the car behind me pulled around and to the second window to order, I did the same. I ordered with my code from the app at the pick up window. Simple order Buy one get one for $1 + Large Diet Coke. On the way out I felt around for my hash brown to munch, but i ended up unwrapping my biscuit instead. So I ate it. Got home looking for hash brown, and it wasn't there. It is a very good thing that I am just across the street because i pulled out and returned. I told the woman working the drive through that it wasn't in my bag. She asked me what my order was for some reason...I gave it to her. She said it wasn't in the bag because there wasn't a charge for it. First of all there was a charge and even if it was free, shouldn't have I received it? I don't know if this woman is the manager, but this location needs some assistance. I am guessing the mic/speaker doesn't work on the outside drive thru lane...The bag also had a hole in it so it probably fell out in the restaurant. No apology or anything.

When we walked in for a Sunday dinner, we were greeted with the smell of roasting chicken and charcoal, a promising sign from the very start. It was pretty busy inside, but after ordering at the counter, the food only took about 15 minutes to arrive. Whole Chicken Meal ($27.74) - The meal comes with two 12 oz sides, an 8oz salsa, and either corn or flour tortillas. For the sides we went with the classic Mexican Rice and the Refried Beans. Both are pretty standard stuff from a Mexican restaurant. The rice is tender with still distinct grains, has an reddish color from tomatoes, and adds a scant amount of veggies mixed through. The beans are mostly smooth throughout, fatty and creamy. We went with the corn tortillas, of which they provide a whole stack of twelve, warmed until steaming, making them hot, soft, and pliable, perfect to eat with the chicken and sides. The chicken is legitimately amazing. Basically the entire restaurant smells like chicken fat being charred over mesquite. It's a mesmerizing smell that made me salivate upon walking in. The chicken is whole roasted with the dark meat and wings being cooked until succulent and juicy. The interior of the breasts are a bit dry, but there's not much that can be done with this cooking method! Otherwise, the char is excellent, creating an almost crust-like nature to the skin and the spice mix imbues a yellow glow to the entire tray. They give so much food that we only finished perhaps a quarter of it. We ended up bringing the rest home on our drive up the next day and ate it for another couple of meals. (5/5) I especially love their salsa bar off to the side of the main counter. There's so much variety, there's surely something to please anyone. They have a mild tomato, a mild but smoky, a spicy and fruity, a green tangy tomatillo, a creamy avocado, a crunchy fresh pico de gallo, a smoky and spicy, and a tangy and spicy salsa - basically all combinations someone could ask for. Even the spiciest additions are still very tolerable to my tastes. We were impressed enough to visit again the next day for lunch: Supreme Burrito al Pastor ($14.37) - This is hefty burrito, almost Mission-sized, being around 4 inch in diameter with the weight to match. It's first filled with plenty of Mexican rice, same as with the meal. For some reason, this time, the rice is hard and tough, like they had reached down to scrape the bottom of the rice cooker. It would likely be the most coveted portion of rice in a tagine or clay pot, but in a burrito, the toughness doesn't work well. On top of the rice are the refried beans, spooned over intermittently. It adds creaminess and fat to the otherwise dry exterior layers. Then the layer of meat begins - cubed pork, marinated in a savory and sweet sauce, then mixed up with chopped pineapples. It's more adobada than al pastor, and is on the sweeter end of things with the pineapple. The spice mixture isn't the most notable; they definitely focus on the chicken at El Jefe vs. the pork. Veggies, including lettuce and a pico de gallo mix cover the meat, followed by thinly shredded cheese and sour cream, which is thick and rich, perhaps more resembling crema than cream, and some guacamole, tangy and fatty. It's not the most even application - for example, the guac only covers one end of the burrito while the sour cream covers the other end. (4/5) I have to say, the chicken served at EL Jefe Grill is perfection. I would revisit just for that. Bathrooms - Two unisex rooms Note: El Jefe charges a 2.9% credit card fee. This is displayed at the register, but they have their POS set up incorrectly. Firstly, they lump the cost into the menu item instead of separating it out into a fee. Secondly, they actually charge a random fee rather than 2.9%. For example, the whole chicken meal is 3.1% and the supreme burrito is 2.7%. Very bizarre. I reported it to their management so hopefully it gets fixed soon.
