Carl's Pizza has some spectacular homemade Italian sausage. We hadn't been for at least 10 years but used to frequent for their Italian sausage. We've even stopped in and bought some bulk to make pizza at home. Note that it is currently $7/lb. if you opt for this. There is a very slight kick. We hold Carl's near and dear to our hearts despite the unusual pizza crust. It is crunchy and dry and is definitely an acquired taste with some nostalgia thrown in. I can't help but love it but I can't say we'd try to replicate it at home. The good news is that it can withstand the weight of the toppings, like so many crusts can't. They were bustling when we were there on a Sunday night recently. We decided to eat in on the spur of the moment. Note that the ambiance is straight throwback to the 1950s. We weren't alive during that time but definitely enjoyed the music and adore that time period. There were a lot of the old skool Northside folks coming and going, We are glad this is still a neighborhood staple and will continue to support these folks when we need some of the Italian sausage deliciousness.

    Taco pizza!

A NW Denver icon pizza/Italian staple. Nicest staff and great service. Get a salad. Best blue cheese dressing!! Taco pizza rocks!

Sitting inside transforms you to somewhere else - it feels like you're no longer in Colorado! I loved the old school feel of the place. It's small and cozy, and although it was pretty busy, service was fast and the servers were easygoing and friendly. We tried the platter sampler which was a combination of fried veggies (zucchini, mushrooms and onion I think) and the satellite pizza minus the olives and pepperoni. Everything tasted great, though the appetizer portion size could have been a bit bigger and the pizza crust was a bit more hard and dry than I'd like.

I've been enjoying Carls since I was a kid. I love that it's never changed. Good food, great service and late night delivery. I've noticed that one of my favorite pizza's is never mentioned so here it goes! MEXICAN PIZZA! Yep it's the best! You get Mexican and Italian.

With a lively interior, hip music and a 90's type vibe, the energy here is high. The hostess was helpful, shared opinions and asked me questions about what I liked and did not steer me to as specific selection. Families, runners, women groups and Uber eat drivers are enjoying the chill vibe with hip music playing in the background. The selection was not easy as several combinations were intriguing and did not sound typical but innovative. The lemongrass beefy crunch with lemongrass braised beef, herbed slaw, maple orange vinegarette, pickled carrots and daikon, 5-spiced crispy onions, mayo on a pressed garlic focaccia was a must try. It is a major favor bomb! The meat was juicy, good hints of lemongrass, a light / fluffy focaccia and crispy, attention grabbing onions. HOMERUN and a true visionary with this concept. The people running the food and drinks were all super nice. I like the overall vibe of the place. The food left a lot to be desired. I got the chopped cheese and the bread to meat ratio was awful. It was such a large piece of bread that I finally just opened it and ate the insides. Way too much bread. If I ever end up back there I will get the cheeseburger. You order at the counter, grab a number, and then find a table. Seating was filling up quickly, but we managed to snag one. I went with the Focaccia & Mozzarella, and wow. The house-made focaccia might be some of the best I've ever had, soft, fresh, and with that perfect bounce you want from focaccia. It's filled with fresh mozzarella and spinach pesto, and I added chicken for extra protein. The sandwich is huge, easily big enough to split with someone. The sandwich itself is on the pricier side ($17 + $6 for chicken), but the quality is there. You can also add prosciutto for less, which I'd definitely consider next time. The house pickles on the side were gas. We also grabbed a half loaf of sourdough for around $6, which I thought was a great option. My fiancée and I sometimes struggle to finish a full loaf, so being able to buy half was perfect. I had some toasted with breakfast the next morning, and the sourdough was excellent too. They also have a great-looking pastry selection, and I'm already looking forward to coming back to work my way through the other sandwiches, both grilled and cold.
