Went on the recommendation of a friend who knows I continue to search for authentic NY Pizza since I was born and raised there in the Italian section of the Bronx on Arthur Avenue. He said this was the best pizza he's had in Colorado. I can't image where he's been eating where the food was worse than here. I couldn't get a single slice so I ordered a small pie to go and ordered the Immigrant hero sandwich. I don't know which was worse but they were both so bad I couldn't eat them and they ended up in the trash. The bread on the sandwich wasn't even Italian bread. Later learned it was supposed to be French bread but it was the driest, toughest French bread I've ever eaten. There was hardly any cold cuts inside, virtually no dressing at all making it even worse. Them, going from bad to worse, I couldn't get past the pizza crust. I've had not so great pizza in a lot of places outside NY but this was, without exception, the absolute worst crust and overall pizza I've ever had and it had an odd flavor too, it if you could get past how dry it was. I've had better pizza from Dominos and other low end pizza chains. Don't know who is saying this is great food but surely they have not been to Italy or even NY. I admit I was hopeful but alas it was not to be. The search continues. To be fair the service was very good but the ambiance not so much. read more

Step in to the 1950s at this legendary spot for Italian sandwiches. Amid a classic old school setting, the Little Immigrant is amaze-balls! Mine was served by an attentive waitress who was very nice. Carl's Pizza has some spectacular homemade Italian sausage. We hadn't been for at least 10 years but used to frequent for their Italian sausage. We've even stopped in and bought some bulk to make pizza at home. Note that it is currently $7/lb. if you opt for this. There is a very slight kick. We hold Carl's near and dear to our hearts despite the unusual pizza crust. It is crunchy and dry and is definitely an acquired taste with some nostalgia thrown in. I can't help but love it but I can't say we'd try to replicate it at home. The good news is that it can withstand the weight of the toppings, like so many crusts can't. They were bustling when we were there on a Sunday night recently. We decided to eat in on the spur of the moment. Note that the ambiance is straight throwback to the 1950s. We weren't alive during that time but definitely enjoyed the music and adore that time period. There were a lot of the old skool Northside folks coming and going, We are glad this is still a neighborhood staple and will continue to support these folks when we need some of the Italian sausage deliciousness. read more

Sitting inside transforms you to somewhere else - it feels like you're no longer in Colorado! I loved the old school feel of the place. It's small and cozy, and although it was pretty busy, service was fast and the servers were easygoing and friendly. We tried the platter sampler which was a combination of fried veggies (zucchini, mushrooms and onion I think) and the satellite pizza minus the olives and pepperoni. Everything tasted great, though the appetizer portion size could have been a bit bigger and the pizza crust was a bit more hard and dry than I'd like. read more

My neighbor literally gave me a slice of pizza out of the box on the way into his house - and that's when I fell in love. The sauce, the crust, the sausage - just wow. It is with a heavy heart I write this review. Returned to Carl's after 15 years and boy was it terrible. We used to love it and hubby's grandparents used to even have dates there. It's been around along time and a lot of personal history for our family. The food was terrible. I ordered what I used to, the Carl's special..a little of everything. The pasta tasted store bought and not the yummy noodles I remember. The meatball had zero seasoning and the ravioli was so thick it was chewy. Red sauce was so so. I started with the minestrone and couldn't believe what they served me. (see photo). I needed a knife to eat it and it tasted terrible. Not to mention how sloppy it was served to me. I am obsessed with Carl's Pizza. Being an enthusiast of mid-century architecture and signs, I had actually photographed Carl's in the past before actually visiting them for a meal for the first time this week. In a neighborhood that has experienced an unrelenting tidal wave of gentrification over the last few years, Carl's is an absolutely phenomenal old-school pizzeria. I am incredibly grateful that a place like this still exists in the Northside. The service is friendly and it's the kind of restaurant where everything is clearly homemade. Their pepperoni pizza was delicious and had obviously just come out of the oven before making its way to our table. One of the employees shared with us that Carl's has been in the same place since they opened in 1953. I can only hope that they are open for many, many more years. read more

My family has been coming here since the 60s with my grandparents they actually knew Carl. This is a Colorado staple! It's really freaking good food, I really like their spaghetti or meatball subs. John is the owner and is super nice we always say hi to him every time we eat there. Very welcoming space like going through a Time Machine hasn't changed in over 70 years! read more

My dad has been coming to Carl's Pizza since he was young. I hadn't been there for at least 30 years and it's still just like I remembered it: booth seating in the main entrance and additional tables and seating in the next room. It has a family owned business feel to it: busy, a lot going on, people picking up to-go orders, phone ringing, and crowded. All the booths were filled while we were there. We ordered a sausage, bell pepper and mushroom pizza and an order of spaghetti. I really liked that the pizza was not greasy. The Italian sausage they used was a quality meat - again, not greasy - and they added the perfect proportions of meat, veggies and cheese. The spaghetti with meatballs was good also. I like that Carl's is a no-nonsense, casual dining experience and the staff were all friendly and accommodating. Eating at Carl's brought back a lot of memories of what the North side of Denver used to be. I hope it's here for many more years to come! read more

OMG we loved this place when we in the hood! Today we had literally the best chicken noodle soup I've ever had, my husband had meatballs and sausage in marinara and it was great. and then the pizza.....oh the pizza! We wanted spaghetti, meatballs, and sausage so we ordered takeout from Carl's. We ordered a quart of spaghetti, salad, 2 meatballs, and 2 sausages. The food was simple but good. The quart of spaghetti lasted us 4 servings total. The ranch for the salad is sooo delicious! I wish I had the recipe for it. The sauce for the spaghetti tasted great and had little pieces of meat in it. We'll be back next time we're craving Italian. I want to try the ravioli next! read more

I wanted to love this place! We just moved into the neighborhood and I've had my eye on it since we got here. It wasn't necessarily BAD. But it just wasn't good lol. Pizza crust was pretty cardboardy. Alfredo sauce tasted store bought. We got a steak and ordered rare so we had some room for overcooking and it was basically well done with zero seasoning. Every time I drive by I tell myself, I need to try their pizza. Today was that day and I'm disappointed I haven't gone sooner!!!! Definitely some of the best pizza in Denver. We got half pepperoni and half sausage, onion and green pepper. I'm always skeptical ordering sausage on pizza, it can be too sweet, spicy or just plain overwhelming. Not theirs.
