I had lunch for the first time at Carlton Corners less than a block away and for dessert we went to Carlton Bakery.The Coconut Shortcake,Cinnamon Roll,Nut chewy roll were all excellent.The box of Hazelnut sprinkled on a layer of Chocolate and the Chocolate Shortcakes were a disappointment because the nuts smelled rancid. I took the box back the next day and the owner said that smell was normal. We disagreed but he did give me full $12 credit and I took home some more of what I bought yesterday. The little poppers melt in your mouth - jalapeño, cremini mushroom, kalimata olive were the 3 we tried. Then it was the pastries... blueberry lemon ginger, peach mango, apple cinnamon. Have visited here several times while wine tasting in Carlton. Always had great, freshly made sandwiches on delicious artisan breads. (Always less than $10/sandwich.) Today my son & I opted for the "special", a salami & cheese plate. We picked 2 salamis & a cheese with a sliced baguette. We were told that was a "medium" serving. It was good & we assumed it would be around $20. When I went to pay we were charged $50! OMG! That amounted to over a dollar per slice counting the baguette. Nothing was marked with a price. We told them they needed to show prices. We won't make that mistake again, no matter how good it tastes! Unacceptable for a "snack" plate at a corner bakery! Beware! read more

Intimate, fresh breads, cookies, and buttery treats for the eyes. And, the macarons! Beauties. So.....we went in and had a cup of good coffee and a scone. Tasty. We saw these absolutely gorgeous chocolate hazelnut shortbread cookies and said -- "Hey! We need to take these home." They had a nice little bag of two for $5.00. Purchased individually they are $2.75 per pop. We got the cookies home, brewed a cup of Joe and sat down to indulge. Not the greatest shortbread cookie. Actually it tasted a bit odd. Couldn't put my finger what it was I tasted. I searched out the ingredient label. Nothing too alarming there. Sugar, butter, flour....the usual stuff. .......Then I saw the expiration date. June of 2018!!!!!! SIX MONTH EXPIRATION DATE????? How can this type of lovely, soft buttery gourmet cookie, made with loving hands in small batches, and hoisting a huge price tag, have a 6 month expiration date?? And what really freaked us out was there was no "pack date." So, here's the question: When were they packed? What is that "off" taste? Rancid butter! Delicious! We live within walking distance of a well known French bakery but drive 40 minutes just to come to this bakery when we can. The macarons are amazing, best I've ever had. My husband loves the 10 grain bread and everything else we've had here has been delicious too. Add stumptown coffee, friendly service and you can't go wrong! More than a bakery now! There are a few tables with a menu of several sandwiches, a quiche of the day, and soups (two when we were there.). We had a classic (turkey on raisin walnut bread) and a standard (ham on 10-grain bread.) Both were terrific and quite large. The bread was heavenly and the meat generous. (I did notice at the table next to us, someone had the chicken cordon bleu that looked wonderful but wasn't nearly as large a sandwich.) Amazing!!! We were driving through town in our RV and were wanting to get a sandwich, and we came across this bakery. So good! Everything we tried was amazing. Their 10 grain bread on the sandwich I had was awesome. My husband had a BLT on a baguette. Everything was delicious. We bought a few different pastries to take with us. All were amazing! Called first and talked to the owner (I think) to ask what they might have for a special breakfast treat for some house guests. She was friendly and made several suggestions -- so I made a relatively long drive because I wanted "the best." When I got there, the owner was gone and the girl behind the counter was SO NOT HELPFUL. She said they "didn't have anything." I had hoped for something special - and ended up with basic cinnamon rolls - but hoped that they would be amazing... They were awful! Hard, dry and chewy. A real disappointment after driving all that way to get something extraordinary. I will not be returning and would not recommend Carlton Bakery. A real disappointment. read more

We had heard good things about this bakery and, while passing through Carlton, decided to try it. It is an attractive place. We bought an $8 Batard and when we cut into it found it to be very expensive Wonder Bread. Very nice looking loaf, but spongy interior, over risen, soft crust and little flavor. We also tried the raved about expensive macarons; too sweet, too sticky and left an unpleasant after taste. We will not waste money there again. read more

Another WOW!! for this little bakery. We were out wine tasting and stopped by for a sandwich to take for a picnic. We were just going to get one sandwich to split but the roman pizza looked interesting so we got that as well. We forgot to tell the lady it was "to go" so the sandwich and pizza came out on plates. We decided to just go with it and to eat half and ask for a box for the other half. We got the box but after one bite we knew nothing was going in that box. We chowed down on some great food. Both sandwich and pizza were awesome. We have a wood fired oven at home so we know our pizzas and this stood up in all respects to any pizza I have made or had. It was innovative and fresh.
