If I could I would do 0 stars. The sales associate Eduardo was great friendly. When it came down to doing the "serious part" we came prepared with getting approved with our bank and had a great rate. However, we got the Not accepted news. Why? Because the middle initial did NOT match the ID. Funny story is we have family members in the car business as the sales manager and GM in another state. What they say? "That's not a legit reason to say no, They sell the cars cheap but crush people on the financing side, thats why they said no to y'all".. so word of advice DONT GO TO CARMAX if you bringing a bank loan from somewhere else because they are losing money with you. Will reject you and make an excuse to say no and go with another customer that will be having higher rates to make money off them over you. read more

So we are in the market to replace my wife's car. Went to CarMax now for the second time and received the same treatment. So I feel compelled to leave a review. On our first visit we spoke to Reggie, very personable and willing to help. I told him ( because he didn't acknowledge my wife) that she was in the market for a new car and wanted a quote for the trade in value of her current car. ( my wife is an independent woman and can handle her own business). Reggie wanted my wife to wait inside while he and I went out to look at the car. ( He was worried that she might get cold). She rolled her eyes and went out to look at their inventory. So we got the quote ( he only spoke to me) and we left. She was rather irritated at the way she was dismissively treated. So she saw a car online that she wanted to physically look at. This time we spoke to another salesman ( didn't catch his name). He initially approached me, I walked past him and told him that she was the customer. She asked about the car in question and he looked after me, saw I wasn't coming back and told her " ya it should be over that way". And walked away. I am really appalled at the treatment my wife has received her. I thought this was 2018 not 1820. Needless to say we are not purchasing anything from CarMax. read more

I have been going here to get the car I bought from them an oil change.. well on desperate measures I took it into a near by business. They brought me the oil filter saying that the places that has been doing the changes hasn't been doing them right. The filter was old and failling apart.. the whole point of an oil change i to check the filter..... i will not be bringing my car in for any further oil changes or any type of maintenance. read more

Tried to buy a car that was available and needed to be transferred. We had our name on it for a hold. Some how someone else was able to put it on hold. It's was a good car and price, had more extras on it then most we had looked at. Anyway we had a conformation that we were send a link to pay the fees required. So they messed up and when I tried to get it they said there was nothing they can do. They offered another car that was more in cost and didn't have the extras the one before had. At no time has carmax shown their concerns on why this happened or tried to make it right. We had this car since the 10th of Sept and was back and forth. I guess since they sell some many cars they could car less for their service to their customers. Who cares if one person doesn't buy the car. They just move on to the next. They don't adjust prices they don't work as a whole team as carmaxs together. They work independently to make the sales for their own store. It's sad the lack of concern a business has about doing what's right theses days. They want you to just by the car or they don't care enough to make you stay and by a car from them. read more

Carmax takes advantage of people when they can. As someone who just wanted a different vehicle, I thought this was the place to go. They didn't care if they sold me a crap car. It's my own fault for not being educated enough on cars, but I honestly didn't notice anything wrong with the car I purchased. About three months in it started overheating- they couldn't find out why so they sent me home with it. Few months pass and it overheats again! All they did was replace radiator cap after having the car for two weeks. This car struggles to even get around town; let alone even leave town. I feel trapped. And I'm stuck in a 6 year lease too. I take responsibility for not really knowing. Bottom line: be smarter than me. DO NOT BUY FROM HERE OR ANY CARMAX. They WILL rip you off as they have many other people. read more

I usually hate buying a car. It has been 10 years since my last experience is dealing with a car salesperson. I highly recommend making an appointment to see a representative before going.... I love that the prices are set. There is no haggling. You get a test drive and they have options for you to choose from on financing and various insurances. There is a seven-day bring back policy if you are not completely satisfied. 30-day warranty on the car in case something breaks. Soooo... I went for a German car with a bit of mileage on it. Within a day the car's engine light came on with all sorts of red lights on the dummy lights... It is obvious that the previous owner did not maintain the vehicle. My husband and I brought it back and they took it back with no questions. I told them about the vehicle malfunction. We got a full refund and reversal of services. Any other car deal (private or commercial) and we would have been stuck with an expensive problem. We will try a car that is a better bet with this dealership. Keesh and John have taken fabulous care of us. I feel that I have been dealt with more than fairly and that all the services and programs at Carmax are meant to protect the customer as well as the business. They seem to want repeat business. It has been the most positive car-buying experience I have had. I will just pick a car with less mileage and a maintenance schedule I feel more comfortable with. read more

My daughter bought a car from Carmax. It broke down in Atascadero, CA within the 90 day warranty. She called the Bakersfield Carmax on 6801 Colony Street where she bought the car at about 6:30 p.m. She was told a tow truck was being sent from Bakersfield to get the car. I went to Atascadero from Bakersfield to pick up her, her grandmother, and my 2 grandkids up because they could not all ride in the tow truck. It is now 15 to midnight and we are still waiting for this tow truck to arrive. This dealership is leaving my family stranded over a hundred miles from home. Don't buy from Carmax. They force you to use their financing and gouge you. I have a 746 credit score and make over 100,000 a year and the best they could offer me was 8% on the loan. I haven't ever had a loan for more that 5%. They allow you to refinance within 3 days but it is a nightmare. The banks don't want to deal with Carmax because they make it difficult. This is been the worst experience I have had purchasing a vehicle ever! My first experience with Carmax was fantastic so I thought I'd try again. Unfortunately this time was a total train wreck and I was being told it was my fault. "I misunderstood what was clearly been stated". Even after I double checked and made sure that what I thought I heard Was indeed what I had be told. I believed it then went and acted then when it was time for Carmax to keep their end of the deal it was all my fault. I was given a new deal but when I asked for that to be put on writing I was told to just trust them that they would this time be good for their word. I wish things had gone differently. Beware of extended warranty, it is not explained in detail at time of purchase. We were told $450 deductible on any covered repairs, not true. I purchased a car on a Wednesday. I signed paperwork that stated the car had been tested and ready for me to take it. Three days later the car wouldn't start. I was able to jump start it however when I parked it it died again. I wasn't able to jump start it and they had to tow it. I was already upset that it broke down three days later. When I got the loaner car, as soon as I drove that home, the check engine light came on. I was extremely frustrated and staff didn't seem to have much of an explanation as to why I left with two cars that weren't ready and fixed. I returned the car and got my money back since it was before the 7 days were over and still had time. If you are looking for a car.... CarMax will simply give you a headache so go elsewhere. read more

We were in the market to buy our daughters first car. To be completely honest, I didn't want to shop carmax. I didn't want to deal with a "scummy" used car lot. But after some unsatisfactory treatment at some other dealerships in town we decided to take a look at what CarMax had to offer. We arrived fairly close to closing time, but the sales associates were extra friendly and accommodating. I let the associates know we were looking for my teenage daughter a car and what the budget was. The sales associates took us to the lot and explained where the cars were that would fit into the budget and said they would be close by if we had any questions. At no point during the process did we feel pressured to buy something we didn't need or pressured to outspend the budget (as previous dealerships had tried to do). Since we had came in so late, we decided to come back in the next day. We chose 3 cars to test drive. We had settled on one and went in to discuss financing. I had already received a pre-approval from my bank but let CarMax run our credit to check competitive rates. And to my astonishment CarMax came in under my bank! Let me remind you to this point we still felt no "salesman pressure" and the no hassle finance approval was fantastic. I added my personal information and we had answers in minutes. Once we had completed the process we moved to finance to sign all the documentation. From the time we walked on the lot, test drove 3 cars completed the finance process and drove the vehicle home we had probably been at the dealership a little over an hour. Not the all day experience I've had with new car dealerships in the past. We also had to bring the car into service for a relay switch replacement & received the same excellent customer service in service and checkout. I definitely recommend CarMax if you are in the market for a used car! read more

Placed a hold on a car Saturday a 1pm. My husband test drove the car and told the sales rep (Nick) that he would talk with me and get back to him. He told Mike he would keep the hold on the car through the end of business on Sat. Nick followed up a couple hours later via text and I told him we were at our daughter birthday party (for whom the car was for) and that I could happily call with a credit card to hold the car until the a.m. - I received no reply from Nick. Sunday a.m. we text him again & he replies, sorry the car was sold last night. He said that although we offered a CC to hold the car another day, that the "sales manager" had other plans for the car and sold it. I called and spoke to the sales manager (Scott, I believe) and he told me that he knew nothing about a credit card hold & that Nick was off on Sunday, therefore the hold was released and the car didn't actually sell until Sunday afternoon! So basically SOMEONE is lying about the entire situation and in the mean time we the potential customers are out, and left with a "I'm sorry, but I'll find you another car" - Well to me it's the principal on the matter all together. And now that I have read some reviews here, I suspect that the car was sold to someone they could finance it with, as we were going to pay cash. I also received a "review" request from them, and I find it very odd that when I click on the link - it can't opened......Just sayin' We will be looking elsewhere for a car for sure. read more

Worst experience we have ever had First we found a car and it had to ship from Florida to California. A month later we called and they sold the car to someone else and never let us know it was there. We had approval and everything on it. Then they said they would ship a similar car over for us to look at. WE called them a few weeks later and they almost sold that one as well. I'm very disappointed at this CarMax. My husband and I put a car on hold and the experience started off great. We got notification about the hold right away and a representative called us right away to address our auto needs. This is the reason why I gave 2 stars (first impression is very important for consumers). We don't live in Bakersfield, but we were willing to drive all the way there so we can purchase this car that we put on hold. We set up an appointment with that representative and let him know that we were coming today to look at the car. This representative calls us back not too long ago from now and said that the car WE PUT ON HOLD was being transferred and there was NO WAY he can reverse the process after it's been done. So there you go, everybody, don't trust that this location will actually hold your car for you even though you've been notified that it has been. I bought my car about two months ago, and my power steering gave out, I then tried to contact CarMax to see if I can get that fixed because the car is at 56000 miles that's to short for there to be a major problem like this. I went into carmax to purchase my 3rd car from them. I went in with intention of trading in my car but didn't work out that way. I sought out the rep I had only conversated by phone over a year ago, even before the purchase of my second car. but the customer service she provided to me then was outstanding although I didn't get to see her when I went in. I gave her a call a few weeks ago, she went above and beyond to get me into the car I wanted. I bought a 2013 Kia Optima on May 3, 2017. Today I went to the gym and when I returned to my vehicle it would not start. I called AAA and they came out and gave my car a jump. The technician advised me that I needed a new battery. I proceeded to drive directly to Carmax. I was first advised that it was not covered under basic coverage, but the Service Manager, Audie, inspected the vehicle and found that the battery had failed miserably. We have bought three cars from Carmax. Two of the vehicles we purchased together so experienced our problems simultaneously. When we bought my husbands car it had no plates. In the paperwork you sign it says it is your responsibility to make sure the title is clear and the registration is okay. When we signed the paperwork and asked about this we were told " the title is clear the plates have been lost and the DMV will re-issue you the plates.." I asked if the registration was current and where was the registration. I was told " yes the registration is current but we do not have the paperwork the DMV will issue you the paperwork. " we paid for an entire year of registration after we were this. 4 months later and several phone calls asking where our registration and plates were. We finally got both. The registration was already six months old (from our date of purchase in May) and would expire in October. We paid for a year and would have to renew after six months. Even though they LIED to us and said it was current and we would get the full year registration they refused to do anything including giving us the 150.00 back for the six months of registration we paid for the vehicle when it wasn't even ours. If you can catch them in this lie they will lie about anything. DON'T BUY FROM THEM THEY WILL SCREW YOU IF THEY THINK THEY CAN! Second issue we had is the stereo on my vehicle was not working properly and they will fix any problems with your vehicle within 30 days..... For 30 days I called and left messages (5 total) and guess what? Not one call back. Granted I should have been more diligent but still poor poor customer service on top of the manager blowing us off saying oh well you got screwed on your registration. read more

Bought a vehicle that is currently still worth over $30,000 purchase Carmax extended warranty and was told because coronavirus or they don't have employees whatever they will not look at my vehicle or on my warranty I was told to go to a list of other shops here in town and when I went to every single shop I was told they were not capable of working on my vehicle because it was too new and I didn't know how to replace turbos or any of that warranty work got the runaround for over three weeks now finally waited and got my vehicle to Ford dealership seems to be taking care of it with Carmax extended warranty but it's just sad to Carmax basically told me if I took my vehicle to them they were just gonna have it towed out and not honor my warranty super sad thing is how we were in a legal binding contract for my extended warranty super sad Get a Bakersfield location only cares about the initial sale once the vehicle is sold and they have your money they do not care and they will not help you and they do not honor the warranty I had to call the Palmdale Lancaster location and they were the only ones who were able to help me out read more

We selected a vehicle from the Fresno CarMax. It was transferred (for free) to the Bakersfield store so that we could inspect and test drive it. CarMax does a fantastic job of detailing their vehicles; inside, outside and under the hood were immaculate. During our test drive, my husband noticed that the vehicle was pulling to the right. Our salesperson (Heather), sent it have it serviced without complaint. The actual financing/ purchasing process was about as streamlined and simple as it could be (aside from a glitch we had with our pre-approved loan that ate up about 15 minutes of our time). On the day we purchased the vehicle, we were in and out of the dealership in 45 minutes tops-- AND the vehicle was freshly washed and the gas tank was topped off. I was impressed with Heather and the Bakersfield CarMax. I highly recommend this dealership for the purchase of your next vehicle! read more

The buying experience was great they were helpful and were able to get me approved... But 45 days after buying the car it would not start and they would not help me without charging me because it was outside my 30 days. Took my car to the dealer they said the oil was gummy, the antifreeze needed flushed ( it had never been done), the breaks need to be flushed(again never done), and the injectors needed replaced. If they had gone through the car properly and done some routine maintenance on it I would not have had these problems. read more

I came in here today to sell my 2005 Hyundai and I was not disappointed with the service I received. Everyone we dealt with was very friendly and answered all our questions without hesitation. They made the process of selling my car easy and enjoyable. We didn't have an appointment, but we didn't have to wait long either. I'd say from start to finish the process took us an hour and 15 minutes. They offered me an amount that I thought was reasonable and fair. I'm sure that given the time and effort, I could have put my car on Craigslist and gotten around $500 more. But going that route would have been a big hassle, and I didn't have the time or energy to do that. I don't mind losing the extra money that I (possibly) could have gotten selling it on my own. For me the convenience of CarMax taking care of everything is worth every penny lost. I don't even have to set foot in the DMV! read more

I did not buy the first time opting to buy new from a dealer, but my wife an I are inclined to buy used this time. Both of the cars we identified as possibilities were located in different cites. One car is being transferred from Buena Park and should arrive this week. The other car in Fresno was pre-reserved so we will only get to test drive it if the first buyer declines. Our salesperson was Kris. Pleasant, patient, and informative. My only concern about purchasing a car from CarMax is some of the negative reviews on this site.
