I arrived at11:20 for 11:30 appraisal appt. Checked in and told to wait at car. Phone call about 3 min. Later asking a few questions about the car and told they were sending the appraiser out. After 30 min. I went back on to find out why they hadn't been out. They said they had a log of appraisals. I Noticed there were about 4-5 people with 11:30 appts. Another 30 minutes and I began to leave when the appraiser came out. After the visual I waited another 30 minutes for the printout. I got a visual 10 out of 10 but the appraisal came back at about 1500 less than the KBB guaranteed trade in amount so unless you're buying here. Don't waste your time. We've purchased 3 cars from this location and treaded in 2. They lost a possible sale and a prime trade in. They need more appraisers or schedule less appts. read more

Don't go here. There is a customer service rep named Antonio and instead of just letting us pick up the car that we scheduled for a 24hr test drive, he sat there and questioned our budget. At this point he has no idea into what our finances look like. Nor does it matter, we are there for a test drive, if we choose to buy then thats a discussion with the finance Dept...not Sales. It's just a $45k car...do you need people to dress in suit and tie in order to appear to be financially fit to buy it??? He wasted an hour of our lives. read more

I thought I got a good deal on a 2019 Tesla Model 3 found out later after washing it several times to get the watermarks out and was unsuccessful I had to buy a product called chemical guys water stain remover, and detailed wax and by Maguires product as well, upon visual inspection after the fact and wasn't allowed to test drive it or have it washed and cleaned accepted the car due to a hassle pressure gaslighting sales person's and manager that claimed another buyer put it on hold when I had it on hold also it was sold above market value price and the body of the car look like it was in an accident which no insurance claim but can visually see part of the hood and door or misaligned and a big hole on the driver seat under the mat which I can see why it was not test driven !!! And to add to the issue Tesla it self replaced the trunk harness and 12V battery invoice is the proof of repair beware of pushing but subtle sales people and gaslighting as well as the manager Ray said to return the car and redo and reapply financially just cause I requested I did not want the CareMax which 50 something's items do not cover and only 7 items or the minimum generic services and still have a co payment SMH read more

I have been looking at trading in my Dodge Charger R/T for a few months for a newer Dodge Charger. I had gone to a few dealerships looking specifically for a Widebody Scat Pack, and was treated pretty poorly elsewhere, even though I was pre-approved. I had all but just about given up hope when I came across a really competitively priced Widebody Scat Pack with 2k miles at Car Max. The guy who helped me here at Buena Park I believe his name was Steve or Steven was VERY rude he started to show me numbers before he even gave me a chance to see the car. As we walked out the lot he was walking WAY ahead of me basically running to the car. When I asked to test drive his exact words to me were "why do you want to test drive if you're not gonna buy it, that doesn't make sense if you're not willing to give 5k down" mind you the car was stick shift & im a girl (I've driven stick for 2+ years now) he racially profiled me because I was speaking Spanish to my boyfriend & was being sexist all cause it's a sports car. The extended warranty was affordable, the cost of the GAP is comparable to what they charge at the credit union. I chose a Jeep because that is what I wanted. A lot of people have a lot of opinions and aren't afraid to rain on my "new car parade"...but in the end I feel so at peace and confident because they stand by thier promise with that 90 day warranty. I hate negotiating and with CARMAX you either like the price and pay it or you don't. I purchased a vehicle at this CARMAX about 8 years ago and it was a smooth transaction. I was quite happy with the experience but little did I know that I'd be back again in a few years. I recently decided to buy a small used SUV and did my research to figure out exactly what I wanted. Once decided, I searched online to see which dealerships had what I wanted at the best price. I found two that seemed to be the best deals. A Honda dealership had one option but was unresponsive to my initial inquiry so I drove over to this CARMAX to take a look at option #2. I was very glad I did. Rudy, the sales associate, was very congenial as he showed me the car. He had answers to most of my questions and was honest when he wasn't sure. He provided a no-pressure environment and helpful information. After a test drive I knew I'd be happy with that car so we went inside and did the paperwork. Financing was extremely quick and rates were highly competitive. After the test drive it took less than 90 minutes to get everything taken care of and the car keys in my hand. My only gripe is that the interior of the car was not detailed. Vacuumed, yes. But the seats, console, door interiors....filthy. Had to spend a couple hours cleaning it up. And why does CARMAX insist on having to glue their "not-easy-to-remove" stickers and decals all over the car? For the second time, CARMAX in Buena Park provided an easy and pleasant purchasing experience for a process that many people unneccesarily dread. read more

I purchased a 2012 Chevy Avalanche from the Buena Park location less than a year ago. The paint on the roof is now peeling off the truck. When I took the truck in to the service office for them to review the damage the service manager stated there is nothing they can do for me. I did not give these people $38,000 for this truck to have the paint peel clear off the roof and for them to take no responsibility for the truck they sold. This place is the worst. Hand over your keys and they start the appraisal portion. 15 minutes later we got the appraisal for my car. It was much lower than what my car goes on the streets, so I passed. I love my car and if I ever do sell it, there are people willing to pay a few grand more than Carmax was offering. read more

In one word to describe this place: SIMPLE. They really do get you in and out of this place quick, unlike the time I was here six years ago. Everything is computerized so they input your data and gets you an appraisal in 30 minutes or less. That's like the same time as pizza delivery! Travis helped me to get my quote. We even had a few minutes to browse through the inventory of used cars online to see if I can find something. Unfortunately, I couldn't. The newer used cars here are a little bit rediculously priced because they cost more than what the dealership would charge. So I would look into something that is used at least two years old. Factoid: Did you know Carmax was opened by the same people as Circuit City? I did not know. Did you also know they are now implementing salespersons with IPADS? So it would be more of a personalized service than the sit down cubicles. They just started in Nashville , it's supposed to be rolling out nationwide. read more

Before actually buying a car from Carmax, I had an enormous amount of confidence in them. Now after actually having to deal with them, I am very disappointed and discouraged! There were many many places where Carmax Buena Park fell short: 1) Salesperson assured me that the car was detailed and Carmax logo sticker taken off of trunk- neither were done and upon closer inspection, the car was filthy in some pretty obvious places (dashboard, instrument panel, behind steering wheel, windshield smudged etc etc). The only thing they will do to resolve this is for me to make an appointment to bring the car back (45 miles away) and have their service dept "look at it". Not cool... 2) After giving my salesperson my Drivers License about 5 times during the transaction, I was called after driving 60 miles away from the location to be told that I need to return so they can make another copy and that I will not be funded for the loan if I don't. 3) According to my salesperson, they only use regular generic motor oils and 87 octane gas in ALL of the cars they bring in and sell on their lot. Being that I bought a high performance (and very expensive) car, that in the online owners manual, clearly states that it requires full synthetic oil and 91 octane gas, it was quite alarming to know they took the right (full synthetic) oil out and put regular oil in as well as filled the tank with 87 octane gas. If you're looking to buy a high performance vehicle from them, you may want to ask a lot of questions or take it to get an oil change right away. Once you run full synthetic, it has to stay that way forever- surprising they don't know that or care. 4) Speaking of owners manual, I was assured the car had one and, of course it does not. The sales person said I can buy one and then bring the receipt all the way back to Buena Park to get reimbursed. Not the most convenient solution as it would probably cost more in gas than the manual... I guess shame on me for trusting the Carmax brand so blindly and not double checking all of these things before leaving.... If you value your time at all, make an appointment online before heading down here. Better yet, make an appointment after doing your research and knowing the car you want to check out is at this particular location. We walked in (without an appointment) on a Sunday evening and were told it would be about an hour wait or so. Definitely waited longer but it's whatever because that gave us time to look around the lot and pick out ones to test drive. The guy was helpful but didn't seem to know much about the cars I was interested in and wasn't all that familiar with their inventory. The test drive process itself is a bit different with switching drivers at the stops right outside the arm gates. I would say that CarMax is an alright place to test drive cars to figure out or narrow down what you do and do not want. There's a decent variety. However, I would never buy a car from here. Got an online offer and went into the dealer to get everything completed and off the bat they said it is a 5 hour wait to see someone and complete paperwork. Went back less than 24 hours later and said I want to accept the offer and when the paperwork was being done that offer change by $2000 and the manager said oops a mistake was made and nothing can be done. Had a Hyundai Sonata transferred here from Burbank so I went with my mom to check it out and I loved it but wasn't IN love with it. I told my sales associate, Tanner,(who is freakin dope btw) that I was also interested in the VW beetles so he took us over to them and we were able to look inside. I looked at a few and they weren't anything special but just as I was going back inside there was a beautiful candy apple red beetle that just screamed my name lol I looked inside and fell IN love. It has tan leather seats and the sunroof I wanted. It's definitely a girly car and I feel as though it was made for me. The price was reasonable and I got financed pretty easily. It wasn't a painful process at all. The only issue I had with getting the car was that my insurance company isn't open on Sundays so I had to come back Monday morning to get everything done. Every employee that assisted me was very friendly and attentive and made me happy that I purchased my very first car from them. I would definitely recommend this location to anyone that's looking for a new vehicle. I also advise you to check online at carmax.com before going in so you can have the car you want transferred if it isn't already there. Great sales but bad service. The car buying process here is straightforward as it should be for Carmax. My salesman Daniel was a great guy and did a fantastic job! No complaints there. When it comes to service however (I had to take it back for leather rips, miscellaneous interior issues, and brakes) - all minor things with the exception of the brakes. This is where the frustration began.. A newly purchased vehicle with brakes that are making a lot of noise is just not right. Keep in mind every purchase comes with a 30-day warranty that covers this! I began to see everything from scheduling my appointments ( I came back 4 times), to the impossible of getting ahold of someone from service on the phone, to the actual service agents - all an excruciating process. It felt like I was bugging them for something they should automatically do. When dealing with Staci and Jon (the service agents) I shouldn't be told "our tech will be at lunch", not get offered a loaner, or have to schedule the earliest appointments by pushing for it. If a customer has a issue don't say there's nothing we can do even if it's "wear and tear". It's not what the customer wants to hear. Darren (the service manager) gets his own paragraph because this guy is a real piece of work. His role was to approve the replacement of my 4 brake pads (which the SA finally OK'd) - I took him for 2 test drives, came to see him 4 times, and in the end he didn't do anything but criticize the 2 minutes of my driving he saw. AVOID THIS GUY AT ALL COSTS. He talked to me like I was trying to cheat him. Everything that they couldn't do (brakes) or called "wear and tear", the Carmax in Costa Mesa did in a much faster and more convenient manner for me. I got so frustrated with their warranty service that I had to take the vehicle elsewhere to have it fixed in a timely manner. The worst part was that the new mechanic said the problem had been going on for at least a year based on the amount of corrosion under the hood. The damage was located in an area that an untrained eye would never notice and we didn't even know anything was wrong until it wouldn't start. Turns out there were two separate issues that were unrelated to each other. I strongly advise potential car buyers to avoid this company at all costs. I had a much better experience here than what I was expecting. I came in to sell a relatively new vehicle, and Carmax was recommended after not having much luck selling it private party. Upon arrival I was greeted by Kevin and Amber, and they immediately got me started on the appraisal process, which only took about 20 minutes from beginning to end. When their offer came back, it was over $1000 than the KBB trade-in value. After they give you the offer, you have a week to accept. Once you drop the vehicle off, they handle the paperwork and your out in no time. The only downside is that they don't take appointments when dropping off your vehicle. The first time I tried to do so, they quoted an hour and a half, so I had to make two trips. Besides that, I am very happy with the outcome. read more

It was time for a car for my daughter (no more driving her to school) and she had fairly specific wants. OK, very specific. But we found the exact car she wanted on the CarMax web site, with very low miles and in our price range, so we swung down to check the place out. I had called first and spoke to Niko, a really nice salesman from South Africa (girls, you will like his accent), and he was waiting when we showed up. He was very nice taking us for a drive in this car and another one on the lot, offering water, coffee... We wanted the car but needed a few days for free up the down payment, so they just held the car for us, no deposit, no paperwork, no pressure to roll off the lot that day... When we came back a few days later, we completed our deal quickly and efficiently, and drove off with the latest addition to our family of cars. Now, CarMax does not deal, so if you are expecting a haggle fest to drop the price, go elsewhere. Also, they are a used car lot not tied to any one manufacturer. I knew more about the car than Niko, but that is because I was looking for this specific car. At that brand's dealership's used car lot, it would not be the case, but understand that no salesman is going to be an expert on every car on the market. We did get a fair deal, no real pressure, they worked with our timing, and we professional and courteous. You sometimes don;t get this on a used car lot. read more

This Carmax has a good variety of vehicles to sell. I came on a hot summer day just to see what they have to offer. I was quite pleased with their selection. I looked at Hybrids, convertible European, pick up trucks, and whatever that caught my eyes in the lot. They do offer a decent finance rate depending on your credit score. The sales person was friendly, except wasn't that knowledgeable. I asked very standard questions such as finance, where did the vehicle come from, features, etc., and she couldn't really answer any of those questions. I don't expect them to know everything... but at least be familiar and do some studying instead of asking another person before getting back to me. I could have just asked the other person myself! Oh well. She did not understand the features of cars such as where is the start button for hybrids, nor the mechanical aspects of a convertible. I just felt like the salesperson was out to make a quick sale. The finance gentleman was very knowledgeable of the vehicles and the financing programs. Very articulate guy, and is able to answer all my questions to the best of his knowledge. If he was my sales guy, I might have bought a car off their lot that day! THEY SOLD ME A MESSED UP CAR. I am now stuck making payments on a car that is just sitting there because no one wants to help me. Soon after purchasing this vehicle it started having issues "luckily" I had purchased the extended warranty. I would get it fixed and it would keep messing up. In the 3 years that I drove it I had to take it to the mechanics several times. Until finally the warranty informed me that they were no longer going to fix it because it had expired. But the car had broke down before that. And I tried explaining that to them but they don't care. So I contacted Car Max they sold me a car knowing it would break down on me. They tried charging me 4500 to fix it and stated that was helping us because of our situation. Made an appointment online (as requested) to appraise my car. Talked to Steven on the phone, he asked a couple intro questions, and confirmed the appointment at 10a. That same day, he texted in the confirmation and said he's actually in at 12 noon if we were comfortable moving it to then. I replied saying 10 would be most convenient so he agreed and said he would assign a different associate to assist. The next day we go in at 10 and the guy at the front said we would still have to wait despite our appointment. I said I had an appointment time all confirmed and Steven was supposed to assign a different associate to assist us. He said Steven didn't tell him anything.. 5-10 min wait is fine but 30 to an hour? It's sad that an entire industry has such a problem that a company like car max can come along and use that as their unique selling point. Anyway, I arrived at CarMax on time and unfortunately I was waiting for 30 minutes. That was obviously very frustrating. I had an appointment setup, so I consider 30 minutes to be a big fail on their part. However, when I went back to the front desk and told them, they sent Laura Bender out and she walked me through selling my car. Once I was with Laura they were quick about checking over my car and giving me a fair price (the exact price that Kelly Blue Book had said my car was worth). Because the process was so easy, and honest, and I was given a fair price, I am still giving them a five star review despite the long wait.
