I went here looking for a new car and got the run around not for a day, not for two days but for THREE DAYS! I reserved the car the day before and while he was taking my application another salesman was showing the car to another couple!!! They don't have a large inventory I was actually surprised at how tiny the lot was. I provided all the required documentation they requested and had several items that showed my physical address because I receive mail at a PO Box and they still wanted more. I gathered up all the items I gave them and drove straight to Tom Scott Toyota in Nampa and left with a new car and a better deal and with all the same docs the clowns at CarMax couldn't figure out! I was going to carmax to look at a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta. While the car was valued on the high end of the price spectrum, I still decided to go and look at it. I met the salesman and we went to do a test drive on the car, while an appraisal was being done on my trade. He did give me some information on the car, but for the most part, he was just talking about the carmax guarantees and how the car was reconditioned. The test drive did reveal to me that something was not quite right about the car mechanically. So after getting back, I decided to look at the other Jetta on the lot and it had a strong odor and as the salesman indicated, an accident history. Didn't drive it mostly because of the odor. I did feel that the salesman really was trying to push the car on me. During the test drive, he only talked about himself, nothing about the car and how great the prices were and so good that you didn't need to negotiate the price. Secondly, when he told me that the cars they sold didn't have accident histories, which wasn't true. Then he indicated that to me when he wanted to start the deal before the appraisal was done, but I told him no. Then when the appraisal was done, they listed things they said were wrong with my car, that weren't. I finally decided that I should leave and go somewhere else where I got a much better deal, price and no pressure. The only reason I gave it two stars is because while the experience was not that great, the facility was easy to find, clean, comfortable and the staff was friendly to me when I first walked in the door. read more

Absolutely the worst car buying experience ever! I paid to have a truck shipped from Texas to Boise and was quoted 21 days. The truck arrived 6 1/2 weeks later with no title. It took an additional 2 weeks to FIND the title and have it sent to Boise. The truck was then "accidentally" removed from being on hold and sold by another CarMax store, so when I showed up for my appointment to purchase the truck it was gone. The GM also suggested that CarMax employees don't know what a "standard bed" size means on a truck. Are you kidding me? Aren't you in the business of selling vehicles? I would never recommend shopping at CarMax. Horrible and stressful experience! The employees are rude and unmotivated to sell vehicles because they work on an hourly wage instead of commission. read more

We had a pretty good experience - better than we expected. Our sales rep understood what we wanted, and once we had decided on make and model, he checked inventory in other dealers to find the color we wanted. It was shipped to Boise at no charge, although it took about two weeks to arrive. The car had a few cosmetic issues, and it was missing the flat tire repair kit. However, they eventually provided us with a spare, jack and lug wrench. The fifth star would have been awarded if they had checked and fixed the spare tire issue before I found it, and shipped the car sooner. read more

I sat at CarMax for 4 hours frustrated trying to purchase a car. It was my first time buying a car and I needed a little extra reassurance and assistance. I was very frustrated by my experience because there was not one person that went out of there way to help me try to solve the problems I was facing, including the employee I was working directly with. Once she left, everyone just sat around and watched me struggle. It was both embarrassing and frustrating. However what changed my experience was an employee named Kiel, if you are purchasing a car at this Carmax I can not recommend Kiel enough. He is the only one who offered to help me, even though he was with another customer! He offered me empathy and assistance. Later when I returned with what I needed, he had me in and out of the dealership in 30-45 minutes! He was very professional and so helpful, without him I would not have been able to purchase the car. I went in wanting to buy a car I already new what my price range was and I was going through iccu I had a check ready to pay for a vehicle. I couldn't drive it the first day because I lost my license so that was my fault my friend drove it for me on our way back to the store one of the lights came on saying something was wrong and I asked what that meant and Adam Main our sales consultant said he didn't know to almost everything we asked or always seemed unsure and said I will ask my manager. During our test drives he would just sit in the back and not say a word and was just looking out the window enjoying the ride I guess. So that made me feel unsure. I was still considering the car because I liked it and I was set on buying it the next day because he said I needed my drivers license to buy it. So I told him okay put it on hold I'm going to come first thing in the morning after I leave the DMV and come back with the check and all. Well I was anxious so I went home read reviews about the car a lot of people liked it but it wasn't a hundred percent awesome so I looked into maybe changing my mind it was a Mazda but you guys also had a c250 Mercedes Benz that I fell in love with when I first walked in so throughout the night I was set and changed my mind for the Benz. I kept researching things because I couldn't sleep so I looked up more info through carmax because it looked like a good place to buy a car. I've never seen so many terrible reviews about a car dealership and what was worse is they were all alike too some people got sold lemons or they had issues with the 5 day return policy or their car broke down In a week or a month this lady said the car salesman told her the reason why her car was rattling was because all small cars do that......it was nuts out of 73 reviews I read only 13 of them were 4 to 5 star and they said nothing about the cars they just said their sales consultant was amazing and had a great experience. So I was a bit worried but I really wanted that Benz so next day I went back to the store Adam Main was waiting for me right at the door I told him I think I want to test drive both so I can make up my mind. So I did drive the Mazda first the light thing came on again and the Benz you could tell needed an alignment because when I hit the freeway I let go of the wheel and immediately went the other direction and the speakers were broken I'm not knowledgeable about cars so I thought if I can notice this I wonder what else could be wrong. The car was a little dirty on the inside and in the back there was an ash tray with ash still in it too. I asked Adam if I could take it to a mechanic or someone to look at it to make sure it's okay he said I had to buy it first and then I had 5 days to return it immediately I thought of all those reviews I asked Paul Otanez the manager and he said the same thing that I had to buy it and I had 5 days to bring it back. I had a terrible feeling so I said I would think about it right then and there Adam looked so mad and irritated after that he didn't even look or talk to us we said goodbye to Paul the manager and left. Thankfully enough I trusted my gut late that day I ended up at Volkwagon Audi they had the exact same color but in red and fell in love I asked if I could take it to get looked at and they said I could take it wherever i wanted immediately I felt like crying and told them about my horrible day and bought an amazing car there. Carmax 100 plus inspection failed to discover obvious repairs needed a total of (7). The buying process was a little long and not my favorite. I didn't like the preselected test drive route that didn't allow me to test the horsepower out on the freeway. I ended up finding a bunch of little and one important thing wrong with the car after purchase. So I went back and was rescued by the service department and their wonderful 30 day warranty. Very efficient and painless used car buying experience. I found a vehicle I was interested in on-line and called the dealership to have it placed on hold until I could go by that afternoon to have a look at the car. Eli (the salesman) was courteous, knowledgeable, efficient and helpful. He was patient and forthcoming with any and all information I wanted to know about the vehicle. Kudos. I returned the next day during my lunch hour and Mike and Kate had me out with the vehicle and paperwork completed in about 30 minutes. Again, well done! Overall the experience was very good. The only recommendation I could make to improve the service would be for the dealership to make certain the interior of the vehicle being sold is cleaned before sale. I didn't mention this because I was in a hurry but it didn't appear that much time was spent cleaning and making the interior of the vehicle presentable for sale. The exterior was in cleaned condition, having been washed the afternoon before. I would have rated this experience 5 stars had the car's interior been cleaned properly. Update 02/09/2017 I contacted Louis the CarMax manager and provided feedback on my purchase experience. I mentioned that the car was not clean enough. He asked me to bring the vehicle in to the service department to give him an opportunity to improve things at no cost to me. I did this and in about 2-1/2 hours the vehicle looked immaculate. Additionally, his team provided a keyfob that would operate the remote start system on the vehicle (the original keyfob would not). Louis and the service rep (Brianna) were gracious. It was obvious they cared about my business and made sure I was satisfied before I left. Brianna urged me to contact her if there was anything else she and CarMax could do to improve my experience. Went in looking to do a trade in on our FJ, they made us wait 45 min. for a quote and came back with a low ball offer. The sales guy said he makes the same no matter the price car we buy, but kept showing high end cars. We ended up selling our car on Craigslist for way more money and bought a car somewhere else. I get they want to make a profit, but don't waste your time, these guys are just like every other sleezy used car dealer. I recently bought a used 2014 Nissan Leaf from Carmax. It was a great experience from beginning to end. I started out looking on the lot. They were all quality cars and were categorized. I did not find exactly what I was looking for so I went home and looked on the Carmax website. I found the car I wanted at another Carmax dealership. I called the Meridian dealer and talked to a sales person who told me if I had any questions about the car he would call the dealer where the car was located and get the answers . After my questions were answered I decided to order the car. There are fees associated with transferring cars that change with different criteria. My car luckily enough had no transfer fees. My salesman kept me informed throughout the whole transfer. When my car arrived I was called and made an appointment to pick it up. When I went to get the car unfortunately one of the features on it had been misrepresented. I thought to myself "oh boy here comes trouble". I couldn't have been more wrong. The sales manager apologized and told me she would discount the price AND fix the misrepresentation or I could keep looking and walk away from deal. I chose to have them fix it and take the discount. Their service department took care of it in a prompt and very professional manner. They kept me in the loop with a phone call everyday throughout the whole process. We were looking at SUVs online and had heard great things about Carmax, Boise. (Which is actually in Meridian.) My Husband made a call and spoke with Ryan H. After giving him all of the details of the buying/selling situation he said, "Why don't we start with getting your current car appraised and we can go from there." Smart move because that was all that really needed to be accomplished. We knew what we wanted in our next vehicle, but we were not set on model. We went diwn a few hours later and met with Ryan H. He was knowledgeable about the various models. When I asked about a certain SUV he asked me what the price range was and then stated that it may be more than I wanted to spend. I found the fact that he did not want to push us out of the range we wanted to spend refreshing. In the end we got the price we wanted for our trade in and we are in awe of our fabulous new ride. Ryan H.'s sales style seems that he just wants to do a great job for you. Next we worked with Trudy to sign all the paperwork. She was so friendly and fast. Finally, the icing on the cake...they put a bow on the new ride. A HUGE bow. Made me smile. I had an amazing experience with CarMax. I had been looking at and researching different SUVs for about 6 months before I decided on a Jeep Grand Cherokee. I looked at my local dealerships as well as online at several dealerships. I kept going back to the CarMax website as they were roughly $3000 lower on the same model, similar mileage, and exact options. My local dealership refused to lower their price on the same vehicle to match CarMax so I finally decided to make the move on my purchase. I called CarMax and was answered by Rasheed who was very helpful and friendly. He walked me through all the steps of putting in a transfer and what would happen each step of the way. My transfer came in approximately 3 weeks, made an appointment to go to Boise for the test drive. Absolutely loved the Grand Cherokee, it looked BRAND NEW and was spotless. Paperwork was so quick, easy and painless (I'm sure it helped to get pre-approved). They sent the Grand Cherokee to get detailed while I signed papers which kind of surprised me because it was already spotless but I appreciated their attention to detail. I also received $800 more on my trade than my local dealership was willing to give me and it was $500 over what high list was on KBB. I had an amazing experience and will definitely be a return customer. The other guy who complained about them not matching the price on an identical truck with less miles.....then just buy the identical truck with less miles for $1K less?!!! Hahaha! I also highly recommend Rasheed as a sale consultant....he definitely knows his stuff and answered every question I had about the Grand Cherokee and showed me all the bells and whistles. read more
