If you are considering doing business with Maverick Car Company in Boise, please, take a moment to read. Although a bit lengthy, the experience I had warrants a two minute read if you are looking for more in a buying experience. There are some ups and downs in this, and to be fair, some ownership on my part. Here we go... When my wife asked me to look at a Jeep Maverick had listed, I arrived and found an exceptionally nice vehicle. The atmosphere felt upscale, all their vehicles were higher end, and the staff weren't pushy. To be honest, the staff were also exceptional; I had the privilege of working with Ray Stout. This comes into play a bit later. I purchased the vehicle, didn't haggle on price, and brought it home on a Thursday night. We had agreed during the signing of papers to have one part replaced and it was supposed to take a couple weeks to get the part. Here's where things became complicated, largely on my part. My wife took the car to work Saturday, by the time she limped it home Saturday night it was barely running; the lights were flickering, rough idle, several times it tried dying. I do my own automotive work, from our old '64 CJ-5 to our newer BMW X5, so I wipped out the ole scanner; it said "Misfire, Cylinder 2". Frustration is an understatement. Given decades of poor dealings with other high end establishments I not only found service departments incompetent and/or corrupt, I came to the conclusion the warrantees and rendered services were criminal in nature; needless to say, I did not agree to an extended service contract. I was convinced I was alone in this problem and by Sunday afternoon I had the engine disassembled down to the block; I replaced plugs, coil packs, plenum gaskets, and brittle hose connections among other things. Here's where it gets interesting. The following week, Ray Stout (mentioned above), called me up to see how we were loving our new vehicle... Poor Ray. I was loaded for bear. It was a polite, albeit direct conversation. He held fast to the promise that Maveric would make it right and asked why I hadn't reach out - I explained the above rationale. He asked for an opportunity to make it right, I agreed but had zero confidence. Weeks later, the part we agreed to have replaced during the purchase still hadn't been replaced. More frustration. Ray stuck by my side with frequent communication and explained how a process had put me in limbo thus me "slipping through the cracks". He pulled in managers and the owner of Maveric, Freeman. Our interactions were professional, he asked for details, screenshots from the scanner, receipts for purchased parts and promised to investigate. Still suspicious, but at this point it was irrelevant - the work was complete and the car was back on the road. I anticipated either no word or, best case, an "I'm sorry Steve that you purchased a used vehicle with no warrantee. Best of luck." Here's where Maverick shined. On Thursday I took the car in to have the part replaced - the work they performed was flawless by my standard. Freeman met me in the lobby, our conversation was pleasant and cordial, he inquired about why I hadn't contacted them and I began to realize they stand by their product and reputation. He shook my hand, thanked me for my patience, and handed me an envelope. Inside was a check for every dollar I spent fixing it. He didn't have to do this... We both knew it. We both also knew I failed in trusting them, I should have called them, but was convinced they were the same as every other company. They are not like every other company and I was wrong. From initial contact: beautiful selection, elevated presentation, customer focused sales staff, skilled service department, to gracious and accommodating owner... The only negative came from me and my preconceived notions. All this to say, I should have trusted them... And you should too. I will return, I will ask for Ray, and I will continue to advocate for this team who represent true service in an industry plagued by crooks and swindlers. The truck I bought was massively scratched and the interior was a disaster with stains and a nasty smell. They did not budge on price at all and yet I ended up having the vehicle professionally detailed with roughly 30 hrs of work done to it on my dime. I then took it to their service department for a very noticeable broken front bumper clip and caught 2 service mechanics leaning on the truck as if it was a park bench after I begged them to be careful with the paint due to the fresh detail I had just paid for.Massive amounts of dog hair behind the back seat as it was removed in efforts to figure out were the smell was coming from.... massive nastiness and visible stains on all the seats including a big coffee spill on back seat and yet the salesman insisted that it had been cleaned and I clearly knew he was full of crap. Recall on vehicle also not handled and of course that was also on me to do their job and get it taken care of. Over all the buying experience was supper easy but their vehicles are absolutely not properly presented well and they could give too craps about anything!!! I recently sold a second car via consignment with Maverick Car Company. Once again, the experience was absolutely fantastic. Cassandra, who I worked with selling my RAM 1500 several years ago, was just as pleasant and professional as before, and made the whole process very easy. The car spent less than a month on their lot before it sold and they handled all of the paperwork. All they needed from me was the title and a couple signatures. As with the RAM, we received more money for our Acadia than we would have trading it in or going through KBB. Maverick charges for detailing the vehicle, and there were a couple minor issues they needed to address, but even after those costs we still walked away with more than we expected to get! I will continue to utilize Maverick whenever we have vehicles to sell because the experience both times has been exceptional. read more

Left a review two years ago about my experience being 5 stars when we bought our truck. Today was a different story. I have a 2014 Toyota 4Runner. KBB has it listed at 19,600 to sell to a dealer. Went in looked at the car we were interested in and began talking numbers. CarMax offered 19000 if I bought their car so I expected close to that number from Maverick. WHAT A JOKE. They quoted me 15000 for my trade. I was buying something lesser in value because I do not want to be in debt over a car but they expecting me to give them my car for 15,000 and still pay almost 3,000 for the new car. The biggest insult the car on the lot is OVERPRICED as well and still thousands under my trade in. The sales lady was nice so that's the only bonus. She said she will let me know should anything come in but now that I know what they will offer I will never use them again. My son and myself each purchased a car from them two years ago. It was a good experience. However, when my wife and I returned recently to purchase a car for my her. We had a very poor experience. My wife went down by herself on the third visit as I was working and the sales lady told her lies about our trade in as to why the value was so low. Rather than be honest and say they could only offer a certain amount, the sales lady started telling her things that were wrong with our trade when in reality none of it was true. Nope nope nope. We bought a car from their value lot which I fully understood came without a warranty. (We have bought value lot cars from VW Boise before with zero problems.) Maverick said a safety inspection had been done and I should take to a mechanic which I did. Two days after purchase it FELL APART! First took to BIG O and they found 14 errors. Took to VW and incurred a $3k repair and two weeks without a car. Next week more issues - every warning light going off and would not drive even with pedal to floor. Radiator and engine issues - total estimate for repair was $6-7k. This is for a 2009 vehicle mind you. Maverick said they'd take a look. Only found a "pinhole" size leak in radiator and said it drove fine. (Car was dropping at least two cups of radiator fluid a day and VW found massive hole) Offered to take to auction to what they could get but would not refund. Next day car CAUGHT FIRE while my son was driving it and almost went off road. All was caught on camera. Maverick still would only offer to take to auction for a trade in. Tried to trade in elsewhere and inspections found SEAT BELTS AND BRAKES NOT WORKING. They also found the engine had been muddled with to cover known damages. I got $0 for the unusable and dangerous car and had to pay for a new car in full. Not only this, my husband bought a smoke free vehicle from them 4 years ago that reeks of cigarettes to this day. My mistake for trusting them a second time. I would never buy here again and if you do I would get a full warranty in writing that is reviewed by an Idaho Attorney. read more

A few months later, when I was getting an oil change at a Toyota Dealership they said there was an issue with Brake pads and I should take it back to where I bought it to look into the issue. The team at Maverick was so professional, answered all my questions, texted me photos I asked for, and even dropped off the Land Cruiser at a Toyota Dealership of my choosing for an inspection. The vehicle passed inspection with flying colors and I bought a one-way plane ticket to Boise. Went into test drive two vehicles. Worked with Corbin I believe and English accent salesman. Wasn't sure on what vehicle I wanted to potentially take home but was curious on my cars trade in value which would help with my decisions. Salesman claimed he couldn't give me a value on my car unless I knew what car I wanted to take home with me because he stated he had to "pull my credit" to get my cars trade in value. This is inaccurate info. He got defensive with me and had an attitude and ended up walking away from me. Made my decision not to buy from there easy, although I have purchased through them before. I cannot say enough good things about this dealership. I bought a Ford Fusion from them 2 years ago and the entire process was so easy and stress free. I had no idea that buying a car could be that relaxing. In the past I had gone through one of the large dealerships and it was so stressful and nerve wracking and after I didn't feel that I got a good deal. I did not feel that way at Maverick. I had been in numerous times before I found the car that was right for me. When I found my Fusion I wasn't sure we were going to get the numbers to work but the salesman I worked with, Jason, is also the lead loan guy and was able to help me pick out a car that would work right from get go which saved me the hassle of picking one I wasn't going to be able to afford. There also was no hassle of trying to haggle the price down. They automatically price the cars at the lowest they can, typically at or below the KBB value. I actually left the lot with equity in my new car which is incredible. The car I bought was, and still is, in great shape. There have been no issues and I feel that I bought a great car. I never once got the feeling I was being lied to or swindled Into a junk car and there was absolutely no pressure on buying. They have a great selection of vehicles, everything from sports cars to off road to trucks and vans. All of their vehicles are in great shape and are mechanically sound- they won't sell a car that has issues. And if you're looking for something specific you can go in and talk to them and they will attempt to find it for you. As their name suggests, the experience at Maverick is like no other dealer. I worked with Scott (sales) and Johnny (finance) who were both great. On the test drive I mumbled about the brakes feeling "soft". When we got back and Scott brought it back to their shop and lifted it up for me, we checked the pads (at least 75%) and rotors (brand new) and then everything else on the truck. I've bought a lot of cars and no dealer has ever brought me into the shop to inspect it. The sales process was as low pressure as sales can be. They didn't grill me about financing or payments, and the price on the truck was below market. Financing was a breeze and they were completely transparent. During the sales process I had a deadline to get to my son's soccer practice. They totally respected that and kept checking with me to see how much time we had left, and I made it to practice on time. In my new truck. Overall it was a great experience. I think this is a great place to go for first time buyers as well, no pressure and you can take as much time as you need to kick the tires, or even walk underneath in their shop. The whole process is transparent, so you can get a great idea of what buying a car should be like. Not only did I have to get the fuel injector replaced on a used car I bought from them LITERALLY 20 MINUTES after I bought it, but they sold me a truck with RUST all over the bottom and said it was coming from Wyoming, when really it came from the east coast and had been driving on salted roads/. I'm rating this establishment as sub-par because of the general manager. The vehicle that brought me to this lot was an overpriced 2015 Honda CR-V EX-L. After a test drive, I was prepared to make an deal on the sales price (which was ** way ** too high, based on the mileage of this vehicle). Augie agreed - and tried to make a deal on my behalf. The stoic general manager didn't budge. After walking away, Augie convinced the buying manager that the vehicle was priced out of its market. Not more than 20 minutes later, Augie called me with a lower price. Augie brought us back. And Augie sold me the car. I would recommend this auto lot to anyone - just ask for Augie. read more
