Wow I cannot recommend CarMax enough! We had a wonderful experience buying a lightly used Nissan Leaf from them. They shipped it from Beaverton for free and we test drove it that week. The sale was hassle-free and straightforward. I even had it checked out at the dealership because I couldn't believe how easy it was and what a good deal we got, but Nissan said there was no issues! I paid $199 to have a car shipped from California ,it showed up a $31000 dollar car less then 40 k on it..I drove it and it had horrible road noise on the freeway. I told them to have it looked at before I would buy it.The tech said it was from the custom wheels(that had the exact same size tires on them that came oem)so I drove another car the same brand and exact model just to compare , the road noise was not near as bad,but the power lock was extremely loud on that one. I asked if they could put the wheels on from the 2nd one I drove to see if it solved the problem on the one I had shipped.They dont do that they said,so I asked them to lower the price a little so I could get new tires.They said they are no haggle,I said no haggle for a car with no problems right?So I was already in the hole $200 and it coulda been worse if I had got the car bought new tires and wheels and still had the same road noise.So I will take the $200 dollar hit anyday.I will however never pay to have a car shipped without looking at it first again,that way there are no surprises!Especially when it's non refundable. I could have saved a lot of headache if I had just read these reviews.So pay attention to what you see.I won't go back to carmax again! Randy and Matthew (had two sales people because of a shift change) were absolutely amazing. kept the whole purchase haggle free, with plenty of laughs in between. ERIKA OLIVA has the worst customer service, never was able to get in contact after she sold me my Honda civic when I still had concerns for the car and never put GAP on the contract after we discussed having it on there once I called a month later to clarify why she never put GAP on my contract she said she can't remember come a month ago what was discussed and couldn't help me any further since it isn't in her department. Worst " senior " customer specialist that I've ever came too. She also lied bout getting me reimbursed for the trade In car I had with my maxcare. They also just took that and never spoken to me after letting me know I'd get a check in the mail after finding out the agents that I was never going to get that check and they weren't sure why she said I was going too. me and my brother arrived at 6:50pm and we were told by the person at the front counter we can go look at cars in the lot and to let him know what we were looking for. We found a car he really liked so around 7:03pm we came inside and there was a different man at the counter in a grey shirt he said his name was Nick, then he asked us if we needed help we walked up and said my brother was really interested a car. He immediately says that they are closing and he can get us into an appointment but that there are 3 other people waiting and then after all of that he tells us the car is already being looked at and to check the website and midnight to see if it is still available, that part was fine we we completely understand if someone else is looking at that car. We had drove from McMinnville, I know timing was bad on our part but we were welcomed in expecting to be helped with a car because we were told so, and I think he said his name was nick and that he was the store manager, but he basically shut us down when we were going to buy the car out right. He gave the vibes of the store being closed and the staff leaving is more important than a sale. I completely understand people have family's and lives but again we were told we could look on the lot, and let them know when we were ready to be helped. read more

I deducted one star because the online registration did not go through in my case. I showed up at my appointment time and they didn't know who I was or what car I wanted to test drive. I had also registered in person during my first visit, which was to have them appraise my current vehicle, and it seemed like they couldn't find me in the computer. Otherwise, a very pleasant place to do business. An associate accompanied me during a test drive, a good thing, as current automobiles are loaded with electronic accessories I don't know how to use. When I expressed displeasure with my test vehicle, the associate did not get snotty. I am still struggling to find a satisfactory vehicle and will doubtless visit them again, without apprehension. read more

The service here is incredibly poor. They set an appointment with me to drive an hour away (from PDX) down for a test drive and when I got here they told me "we're sorry we transferred the car to someone else so we can't sell it to you." Their explanation was that "this happens sometimes" and "when you talk to people on the phone sometimes they don't do what they say" Awful service. I have financing locked in, a test drive appointment, and I am physically here during Covid and they just said sorry our bad. Do not shop for a car here. There are so many better options. I paid to have a car shipped from Sacramento to Salem Or. I wanted to look it over and test drive before I purchased. That's not how it works with Car Max. I found out that once you test drive you have to do the deal right then and there otherwise they'll take the car off hold and put it back on the lot. Buyer beware when paying to ship a car from somewhere else. I will never consider buying or selling with Car Max. I will eat the $249 paid to ship it and never got a chance to see or drive the car as I was threatened to come drive it and bring money or it's going back on the lot. Back on the lot it went. Took off a star because I can't haggle on the price(sorry, I love doing that). I'd recommend Carmax while you're shopping for a car because they have several of everything. This means you don't need to visit 20 dealerships to try the different brands. They're all right there. This is nice if you're not sure exactly what you want and are considering options. Prices are competitive, sales people aren't pushy and service is pretty great actually. Have bought a car there. I would recommend their warranty on about any car you get. The warranty we got at Carmax was useable at the Nissan dealership, not just at the carmax. read more

I got a good quote for my car and went back a week later to trade it in. My new car was ready to go and the transaction went a lot faster than other dealerships. Our car buying experience was completely different from the previous 4 vehicle purchases I've made at this location. On 3/11/24 The evening supervisor at the Salem location used discriminating tactics to make it impossible to purchase a vehicle even after being approved not even 48 hours prior at the same store with financing ready to be signed. We had a wonderful experience each time before walking into the Salem store that night and he shattered everything we had worked so hard towards. We rushed to the Salem store after work and drove 1 hour and a half from our home to pick up our new vehicle only to be told we HAD to trade in our vehicle or else we wouldn't be able to take the car we had already been approved for home. He insulted my partner, my 3 year old daughter, and I before turning us away after spending 3 hours in their store only to be denied due to his personal feelings towards us. If you are looking for a place to make you feel undervalued this is it. I do not recommend anyone purchase a vehicle from this store. Absolutely terrible! Bought a car with only one previous owner. My car is having severe issues only After 34,000 miles. Replaced burnt spark plugs which cost me over 300! Replaced a coil which cost me 225 and is still having problems, might have to throw the whole car away LMAO KMS. This location unfortunately wasted our time. We have been looking to sell our Jeep Wrangler and we're looking for appraisals. Carmax was recommended highly from a friend and we called beforehand to get an offer, but they insisted on an in person visit. We had another competitive offer and shared it with them, asking several times to make sure a trip from Eugene to Salem would be worth our time. Each time they said they offered excellent competitive prices and the trip would be worthwhile. It was not. They offered over $8,000 less than the competitive offer, they said it was due to the market and what they had in their lot. I really wish I could give a better review as this place was recommended to us but it was truly a waste of time. Poor communication and frustrating, but the reason this isn't a one star review is was the gal who took the photos for the car, (not the same person who appraised it) was very nice. After purchasing a vehicle from this same location only a week prior me and my wife elected to get a late appointment due to her getting off of work late. Little did I know my wife had an issue with the night supervisor in which he used his power over the employee sales rep we was assigned to only to make us feel uncomfortable, I reported the issue about his sales rep misrepresentation and I asked for someone else in which he did nothing. I was completely displeased to why we was there for so long getting interrogated having to go through questionnaire test to see if we were who we said we was especially being there in the past two weeks a total of 6 times and also brought a vehicle from this same location. We were lied to we were bullied and disrespected. My wife has been a Carmax consumer for 6 years she has purchased a total of 7 vehicles from Carmax and the way we was treated I've never witnessed This type of behavior from any car dealership ever before. So because of this I said that I would go over this with my attorney and further take legal action if needed. He then not only instigated and antagonized me he also put a banned on my wife's account. We felt discriminated against and heartbroken because I really wanted her to have that vehicle. I wouldn't recommend this location at night time to an enemy. That supervisor need to be investigated and terminated, and if anyone has experience this same problem please follow up with a complaint to stop this from keep happening. Car business is more than just selling. For me, it starts from 1- pre-sale verification (quality standard and recondition of the car) : At Carmax-Salem in Oregon, their 125 quality check points is a marketing B***Sh*t. I was never able to get a definitive answer what those check points are. My car has many critical software updates unattended. There is also a crack in the windshield that was never indicated on the website nor was it addressed before putting the car up for sale. The car sat on your lots (Boston, Connecticut, Virginia...) for over 15 months and I doubt you missed to update the car to a properly functional level. Now, because of that my battery and gear shifter light are malfunctioning. Moreover, the transmission oil is very dirty triggering engine light. Keep in mind that I drove the car less than 3000 miles since I bought it four months ago. 2- sale (transparency and pressure free) and : Carmax is one of the leader company 3- after-sale or customer care (stand behind the quality of your product): this is the most critical aspect of car buying process and my experience with Carmax left a bitter/sour taste in my mouth. I was approved for a repair during the 90-days limited warranty period. It turned out to be a faulty diagnostic and after a couple of try when the real root cause was finally diagnosticated, that is "outdated modules software", they then refuse to fix it. Instead, they offered a repair solution (battery replacement, shifter light replacement, unfit aftermarket front struts) that is not going to address the issue. Why? Would Carmax-Salem have covered the software update if that was the first diagnostic I brought up? I got no answer. Which means Carmax's limited warranty is spineless and substandard or not up to the level. Also, I notified Carmax-salem about the cracked windshield and I offered a substandard service. Where is the competitive advantage of Carmax services? I paid a premium for a car that was worth way less. After four months of trial, I can attest that You lost me for life. read more
