Chef Anthony came to our home, showed us many delicious dishes from plant base pizza, jack fruit Chile Verde and amazing healthy tacos. He cleared our fridge of the processed foods that were doing more harm to our bodies than good. He instructed us through a variety of fruits and vegetables, spices and seasonings, we were tasting it along the way, and when the final product was served..... We were delighted, a couple of frowns about eating the unknown, but when we tasted the food, we agreed it was something we liked. Chef Anthony has a love and passion for plant base cooking and I'm thankful he was able to share that with us. He is very calm and patient while instructing. He allows and encourages hands on learning, so we are included in the process of life. To create and mix foods and flavors that are healthy for us. Anthony, Thank you for introducing us to your passion, your love of food and life. It was an honor to have you in our home, helping us and give us the tools to make a difference for our future. We wish you success in your journey.

This past Sunday, we attended a cooking class with Mangiare Monterey. Sarah and Reggie, our hosts…read morefor the evening, were inspired by a class they attended on a recent trip to Spain. They were looking for something similar in the Monterey area and because it did not seem to exist, decided to create their own based on Sarah's Italian family recipes. The classes are done in the Comanche Cellars tasting room at 412 Alvarado St in Monterey. As we arrived, we were offered a glass of Comanche's Pet Gnat, a sparkling rose of Pinot Noir. For this class, the focus was on sauces. The cooking stations were set up with each couple preparing a different sauce; a meat sauce, spicy sauce and vegetable sauce (each tomato based). We had a small charcuterie to snack on as we cooked as well. I loved that all the prep had been done - no chopping vegetables. Everything was ready to go so after introductions we jumped right in with Sarah guiding the group through the process. Nicole, Comanche's resident sommelier, was on hand to offer pours of different wines which would pair with our foods. After we had prepared the sauces, we were treated to a family style meal which featured a homemade focaccia with a delicious ricotta, a fresh salad and of course pasta with the opportunity to try each of the three sauces. Which sauce was the best, I can't say. Although if I had to choose, I was somewhat partial to the vegetable. We were offered more splashes of wine while we ate. We finished it all off with some key lime cookies and a bit of Sarah's family's homemade Limoncello. It was such an enjoyable evening and something really different we had not had an opportunity to experience before. I think this would be so much fun for a special date night or just an opportunity to get together with a friend for a fun evening out. The next class will be held on February 23. The food was so good and our guests raved about it even after the event. We opted for a multi course plated service and everything was delicious, presented so beautifully and made fresh local ingredients that truly wowed us all. I highly recommend their short ribs, baked havarti oysters, and do not pass on Bruces famous brownies! We absolutely loved how great the team was to work with as well. From the very beginning Bruce listened to the tastes/foods that were important to us and delivered on our special day. Jordan was a true hero handling our event rentals and making sure we had everything we needed for our bar service. Both were very responsive the entire time, and even hosted us for a tasting a few months prior to the event allowing us to sample what we were getting ourselves in to. I'd like to add that we also played a round of golf with them- these guys really love what they do and the people that they get to work with and it was really special for us to gain friends along the way. Thank you guys again for such a wonderful experience and we can't wait to work with you again soon!

For a venue that is more expensive than other options, the value simply isn't there. Here are the main issues we encountered: 1) Strict "No Outside Food" Policy vs. Actual Food Provided: Their website explicitly discourages outside food, stating, "As our parties include plenty of food for the kiddos... outside food is unnecessary and discouraged." Because of this, we trusted them and didn't bring extra snacks. However, the actual food took quite a long time to prepare, and the only snack provided in the meantime was a single small bowl of pretzels per table. The kids were absolutely starving. When one table finished theirs, a staff member brought out more pretzels seeing they were hungry--only for him to find out after that they were strictly limited to one bowl, and the employee simply hadn't known the rule. When the other table ran out they weren't allowed to get extra pretzels! 2) We paid an extra $37 for premixed lemonade (which tasted like a standard powder mix). The kids were restricted to just one small cup each. They were still thirsty afterward, but they were cut off from the lemonade and could only get tap water after that. 3) This is a cooking environment where the kids are constantly using their hands to handle food. I fully expected the very first step of the party would be to make sure the kids washed their hands. Shockingly, not once did the staff line the kids up or instruct them to wash their hands before they started preparing and touching the ingredients. 4) We wanted to have an ice cream cake and they were unwilling to let us borrow freezer space for a small cake, stating that they did not have room. We know other cooking venues allow this and allowed an even bigger sheet cake. So were surprised that this cooking venue wouldn't have space in the freezer for a small ice cream cake. It was just an inconvenience as we had to go get the cake during the party. 5) To top it off, the tip must be paid fully in advance.

The premade sandwiches are all tasty and much better than you get in a grocery store. Customer service is a little hit and miss, based on personalities. There's plenty of seating inside and out.
