It does take some time for your food to get ready as it's cooked to order over an open fire pit (not something you see every day). Would definitely recommend the jamileh special (any of them) as it comes with a salad, hummus, pita, a meat, and marina bread (pita with hot sauce and onions in between). I've been here about five times and like that it's a family-run restaurant with an authentic focus. The falafal is hand ground, there are also huge kebabs on spikes and delicious kibbee. Whereas I agree that the shawarma is about two dollars too expensive, the owner takes considerable pride in his food and the cost of raw materials seems to be factored in here. Try the salads, they have a choice of three salads (salad platter) that is not on the menu. The owner is always handing out free samples so you can try the soups (quite good) and enjoy the quality of the meats. read more

As others have mentioned, this is a very tiny hole in the wall place and not the most beautiful atmosphere, but I am hear to write solely on the food and service. The service was great. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted immediately by one of the guys there. Very friendly to us and anyone else that walked in while we were there. The food was GREAT! Both my husband and I had the veal and lamb shawarma sandwiches. The meat was seasoned very well and had a good balance of sauce and dressing with meat and veggies. We also had the kibbeh and falafels. The kibbeh was also seasoned very well and was very flavorful. The falafels were amazing! Nice crisp crust with a very well seasoned inside. Never trust a Middle Eastern restaurant that serves French fries! Not authentic. I don't go to a place for falafel's and order fries. Same thing w/pizza restaurant's. Carmel Haifa is a recent addition to the Morristown dining scene. I must prefix my review with a little relevant background information. I am uniquely qualified to be the ultimate arbiter of all things shawarma, and many topics pertaining to the middle east for that matter (government, security/foreign policy and even a little petroleum/domestic policy) partially because I lived for 20 years in Saudi Arabia. I have comprehensively surveyed the shawarma scene in Al-Khobar, a bustling port city on Saudi Arabia's Persian Gulf shore, over a period of nearly two decades. To say 'I have eaten some mighty fine shawarma,' therefore, is an understatement, and I can consequently claim a high degree of legitimacy in the realm of assessing Middle Eastern, and specifically, Lebanese cusine. Carmel Haifa is not unlike most other shawarma I have eaten in the U.S I had the chicken variant, but in the shop they were giving out samples of the beef/lamb variant, which was quite tasty and nicely seasoned. The chicken itself is a little coarsely cut, and I was horrified that they cut the meat partially cooked from the spit, and finished cooking it in a saute pan. Instead of the traditional roll-up version, the Carmel version involves stuffing half a pita beyond capacity, and addting an assortment of greens. The tahini sauce is reasonably authentic and finishes nicely. Unfortunately no pickles or french fries in the sandwich (I believe these additions are unique to Saudi Arabia) so I can't count this against them. Overall a very average sandwich, but $6.41 is clearly around $2 too expensive. The plate, at $8.99, seems much more reasonable, and when I return, I shall try the beef/lamb plate. Service very good and attentive with plenty of samples offered. Seating area is very limited, only one or two small tables. I did notice some genuine kebab skewers: flat, wide strips of metal as opposed to a square or circular skewer. Since the kebabs are cooked over a charcoal fire, they appear worthy of trying, although after I get the beef/lamb plate. Overall a worthy addition, but the price of the humble sandwich, although packed with meat, is too steep. read more

We have gotten takeout from this place quite a few times - the food is great, and it is quite affordable. We've had the vegetarian platter, the lamb kabobs, the shwarma, tabouli, and the kufta kebab. The only dish we've tried that was disappointing was the shwarma-the meat was really dry and chewy- but it might have been just an off day because their other dishes have been consistently good otherwise. I would recommend this place for take out rather than eat-in as there aren't many tables inside, and the ventilation inside isn't great. read more

Shawarmas, falafel, kebabs... all very good, tons of flavor, done right, cooked right there in front of you, fresh fresh fresh... I just love it. The people, off the charts great... 6, maybe 7 stars. Did someone say baba ganoush? I did... because I just ordered 4 more servings. Honestly. Only knock, it's a dive. Very different. The meat is freshly prepared and you can try things here that I have never eaten before. The food is a bit on the spicy side, so be prepared for that. The portions are nice, and while I have seen other reviewers complaining, it's really a good price for an overstuffed sandwich (this is Morris County, always a little bit more). Parking is good, large lot around back. They get pretty busy in the evening I suppose from the trains letting out across the street. Advised to call ahead. The best Shish Kebab ever. Unlike the fake lamb in NYC, here you get the REAL meat. Amazing flavor with tender juicy meat. If you like lamb, you really need to try this. No this place is not a looker. But! It offers authentic Israeli food and family ran. We love the beef and lamb Shawarma sandwiches. Shish kabobs cooked over hot coals for a smokey crust. The falafels are done well every time. Moist on the inside and flavorful. The hummus, a little expensive but homemade beats manufactured every time in my book.
