Yuck. Cold brew was fine but my latte was disgusting. I got it half sweet and love a sweet latte but it tasted burnt and was too sugary. I don't even know how to describe it but it was just bad. During the trip to Carmel, tried this coffee place early morning- pleasant staff - coffee was decent, I just tried their drip medium roast black coffee. Just what was needed on a chilly morning during thanksgiving weekend..and grabbed their carrot loaf slice which was really fresh and yummy. Not the typical very sweet types, and get it warmed for best taste. Part of the barnyard shopping center with plenty of eating indoors and outdoors too. read more

Okay... it's good. Got the Fireside Bevvy, it legit tastes like a toasted marshmallow! My partner got the banana bread latte, the foam is very yummy, and the drink itself is also very good. Both drinks have a good coffee taste. My only complaint, if I had to pick one, would be a little less syrup on the Fireside Bevvy, but the description says toasted marshmallow white mocha, so I wasn't expecting anything less than sweet. We've lived in Carmel since 2010 (full time since 2014) and can't imagine not loving Carmel Roasters in the Barnyard. Over the years, we've lived their coffee drinks, the delicious breakfast treats and burritos, but mostly we love the people who work there and make it an inviting place to go. Used to be Claire was our favorite barista, but she left to work in medicine helping people. Now our favorite is Charli. She makes a killer latter and a maniacal Mocha Frap. My wife loves her decaf mocha frap, no whip cream! Compared to Starbucks (aka The Borg) Carmel Roasters is the only coffee shop you should frequent. All three locations are good, but the Barnyard is #1! read more

After lunch at Sur at The Barnyard, we visited Carmel Valley Coffee Roasting Company around 2 pm, located in the same complex, for an afternoon coffee on New Year's Day. The staff was courteous, though they appeared a bit mellow. I ordered a honey lavender latte. Unfortunately, the lavender flavor was overpowering, and I ended up drinking only half before discarding the rest. Next time, I plan to try a plain latte which is my usual go-to drink. The café offers a simple and cozy atmosphere, with outdoor seating available to enjoy the fresh air. It's a pleasant spot to relax and unwind away from the crowded tourists in other areas. read more

Happened to be around the area and so glad I stopped by to taste their cup of mocha. It was delicious and believe better than Starbucks! Might be that they use Ghirardelli. Went there around 8am and came back around 1pm to get their blended mocha which was also amazing! Definitely coming back when in town. The craft of making a latte could use some improvement my medium iced latte came out very light and milky-- definitely an indicator of a not-so-great latte in my book. I understand a medium/16oz only comes with two espresso shots however, I think something went wrong here. I've been to other coffee shops where an additional shot isn't necessary and my latte comes out perfectly brown with a balanced espresso & milk ratio. Maybe it was the type of roast they used or their machine needs to be calibrated. I ended up transferring the latte to my own cup when i got home to save for tomorrow and I'll add extra espresso! read more

Nice coffee shop located in the Barnyard Shopping Center. I ordered a black coffee dark roast. I did want medium roast but they ran out at that time. I normally prefer medium roast but I was really surprised how delicious this dark roast was. It was not bitter at all. They had some delicious looking pastries and refrigerated snack foods but I was headed back to the valley and just wanted some coffee. Barista was nice and friendly. In business since '84, this old skool spot roasts their own certified organic beans in a vintage '40s Farina Italian Coffee Roaster, and feature custom blends, single origin and flavored mixes to suit everyone's palette. The Good: *Nice outdoor space *Coffee! *Carissa's Blueberry Iced Tea def tasted like blueberries. :) The Meh: *Mocha was OK but wasn't mixed well as there were still grainy bits of Ghirardelli® chocolate mix in there. *Customer service was completely nonplussed. I was trying to get an extra shot added to my Mocha, and she explained to me there's already two shots of espresso in there. I said, "Great now, give me one more (I'm a coffee/caffeine whore fyi)." She seemed to understand, but I don't think it happened. The customer service leaves much to be desired at this location. The person who took my order was kind and accommodating but the other employee (possibly the supervisor) is rude unless you're a regular. I spent nearly $70 this morning and myself and my order weren't received warmly by said employee. And when I had to return to have a mistake corrected she was rude yet again despite it being her mistake. In the future I will brave the line at the Carmel by the Sea location instead of risking feeling uncomfortable at Crossroads again. read more

I arrived at Carmel Valley Coffee Roasting Co while on a crisp early January staycation to find the place bustling, busy even. Because of this, I had expected that this location would provide a stellar experience as surely they had prepared for the weekend rush. Busy means good, right? I ordered my Latte with cold foam (a detail that is important for later in this story). Now, I'm sure you're asking yourself, "Does this guy know what he's talking about? Is he some kind of coffee connoisseur? Has he been to italy, scoured the countryside with the locals, painstakingly roasting and grinding his own distinctive blend of robusta and arabica beans to craft the perfect espresso to be consumed by the leaning tower while enjoying an authentic neapolitan style pizza with the absolute freshest whole milk low moisture mozzarella?" To which I'll respond, of course not. I'm just some guy with a caffeine addiction who expects the bare minimum or as expected result when it comes to my fast casual dining and cafe experiences. I didn't mind the wait, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, who knows? I wasn't paying attention, I'm half asleep over here. I was just hoping that in the end I'd follow my daily routine of receiving a delicious $9 latte that is definitely the reason I will not be buying a $1.2 million 200 sq ft. shed in fresno within this lifetime. I watch patiently as the barista places down my drink and wait for my name to be called. Finally, it's time to get on with my day. However, gamers, the barista notices something before calling out to me. She had blissfully forgotten the cold foam. I then watch, in what can only be described as in horror, as she dumps out about half of the drink in order to add the cold foam rather than simply remaking the drink with room to begin with. As she does so, I watch the freshly brewed double shot that she had just poured over the concoction of milk and ice go swiftly into the drain before being stirred in. As they were busy she calls out my name, places down the drink, and resumes work before I can say anything. At this point, I figure that it can't be that bad, I might as well just drink this. Unfortunately, as the drink wasn't remade and was instead poured out then topped with foam it ended up being super milky. I essentially was handed an iced sugar milk with a tittle of coffee. Was charged $5.75 yesterday for a large foglifter... just a regular drip. And today at the Ocean Street location I was charged $5.00 for the same. This company has a track record of not keeping their prices standardized. It's weird. More importantly, it is a huge turn-off to be charged this kind of money for a regular coffee. The mark-up on coffee is crazy anyway, and the customers know that. You might as well flip them off by pulling the trigger so quickly on prices. I am positive you could afford to absorb some of the increased cost out of consideration for your loyal (and local) customers. Just know that you have driven me straight to Starbucks, not by desire but rather by economics. read more

I saw the low star ratings and wasn't bothered I just needed my morning fix, you know what I mean. I ordered an iced oat latte and a small drip coffee. The iced oat latte came out as an oat latte. It was a warm day and I reminded the cashier that I had ordered an iced oat latte. She quickly went to fix it, and handed a hot oat latte poured over a cup of ice back to me. This drink was foamy, obvi the oat milk had just previously been steamed, and it melted the cup of ice immediately and was still a warm drink and down right disgusting. I was not pleased. We had to go back a third time to have the drink re done. It was then made properly and fine. Rude girls, specially the blonde one. She makes you feel uncomfortable placing your order because of the weird look on her face. Also, ordered a medium (and paid for it) but she gave me a small. While waiting in line another one of them was also rude with another customer, pulled her ticket to her face and asked "can't you read". Saw them being rude with people who entered to ask if there was a bathroom. (They have a sign saying "no public restrooms" but to get annoyed with tourists walking in is just sad).
