Staying at a hotel about five minutes away, we were ready to head out for some breakfast and coffee in the morning. Checked Yelp and this location was the closest to our hotel. It was located in a shopping plaza in downtown Monterey where Trader Joe's is located. Parking was easy and noticed a large outdoor seating area outside. But it was a gray and cool morning, so there were no patrons sitting out there. The line was only two deep and after I placed my order, we found a table as the decent sized dining area was busy. Got a large drip and a Bacon Cheddar Brioche. The dark roast coffee, as I really love my Peet's. First time trying the breakfast sandwich which had a homestyle egg, crispy double-smoked bacon and melted Cheddar on a brioche bun. It was a tasty sandwich and I would order it again. I was happy to get my Peet's coffee in Monterey and the delicious sandwich was an added treat. read more

Look, I get it - when it comes to the likes of Starbucks, Peet's, or any other chain, coffee related or not, if you've been to one, you've practically been to them all. Which, after all, is kind of the point. So really, the only things worth noting might be about the location, the service, and/or if something really good or bad happened. Which, in the case of the latter, is what brings me here! While I try to support local, independent coffee shops whenever I can, there's no denying that the chains have a certain value to them. More often than not, when I do visit one, it's usually a Starbucks because, well...more often than not, they're the closest one around! However, if given the option, I'll usually opt for Peet's instead, especially if I need a caffeine fix. Not only do I find their house blend to be stronger, but they have one of my favorite drinks around - THE BLACK TIE. Made with Cold Brew Iced Coffee, Condensed Milk, Chicory Simple Syrup, and a Half & Half, the taste is similar to that of a Vietnamese coffee. Yet, despite how many times I've ordered it, it wasn't until coming to this Peet's that I learned of existence of the COCONUT BLACK TIE. Subbing Monin Coconut syrup for the chicory one, the taste feels slightly brighter and more tropical. As for the rest of my experience here, it was largely similar to any of my visits to any other Peet's in the past. The inside is both quiet and clean, the general vibe is cozy, and there is a good amount of seating (there was even a person who setup two monitors on a table, which I've never seen before, anywhere). As for parking, there were a bunch of spaces in the lot, but I could see it being a bit more challenging during peak hours, as there's also a Chipotle, Panda Express, and a Trader Joe's in the same complex. And, of course, I'd be remiss not to shout out to the staff here for teaching me something new that all of my years of going to Peet's never did before. Went to this location for the 1st time yesterday. The cashier was not friendly. Pretty rude and seemed annoyed with my questions. If I'm going to pay $8 for a drink, I want to make sure it's something I will enjoy! While waiting for our drinks, I noticed how friendly she was w/ the people after us. This place is in a really convenient location inside the same plaza as Trader Joe's in the downtown Monterey area. There is plenty of free parking available, but the lot does get busy. There's ample seating inside and outside there is a nice area that they seem to share with the outdoor bar next door. Staff are friendly. I ordered an iced vanilla latte. Coffee takes a while to be made. Perhaps it's the slower vibe here. I was a bit disappointed because it was very heavy handed with the syrup and there was quite a bit of grounds that gave me a sandy sensation as I drank. read more

The drinks are good here, nice environment for a pick-me-up before going to work or school. Good service too. So far I've had the Americano, Latte, Drip Coffee, Chai Latte, and Matcha Latte and all have been good and energizing without the caffeine or sugar crash afterward, which is a huge plus for me. You have the option of sweetened or unsweetened Matcha Lattes. There's free WiFi, it's clean, organized, and has an LA-paced vibe. Never tried Peet's coffee, and my partner and I came from out of town here so we were excited to try it. Unfortunately the cashier was rude and very dismissive, her name was Casey and looked and my partner and I as if we didn't belong there not sure if it was because we are People Of Color but the lady behind me was white and she greeted very kindly, which I thought the switch up in attitude was crazy lol. Peets is amazing, Hard place because of all the homeless from the transit plaza hang out there. Not sure how to correct that. Cozy location with both indoor and patio seating. Easy parking. The vibe was comfortable and background music reasonable. I didn't notice any of the non-housed population mentioned in a prior post. I was welcomed, seen, valued as a guest. Coffee drinks tasted great, per my expectations for all Peet's locations. I also bought beans, which were recently roasted, and full of flavour once brewed at home. Love the staff, especially the happy woman at register with butterflies on her apron. Visited location July 19, 2019 First time at a Peet's coffee and I must say it was a good experience. The coffee was really good. I ordered a white chocolate mocha and it was just right, not too bitter and not too sweet. I really like this location, and the staff is friendly and very professional and the coffee drinks are delicious. the reason for the low rating is this location has become a daycare for the homeless. they seem to tolerate people sitting around all day not spending any money and bathing in the bathroom. I understand that the staff are not police nor should they have to act like security but it creates an unpleasant environment. I recommend Captain + Stoker a few blocks away. I've been a Peet's customer for almost six years now. Went to this location for the first time a few days ago and am happy to report it is pretty legit. Very clean, organized, with lots of merchandise, snacks, and pastries to select. I've been really enjoying the Americano lately, but the Peet's Coffee lattes are also very excellent. Although I missed it, for next Christmas I would recommend the hot chocolate too. Holiday designs of the cups are also tasteful and elegant. In the COVID-19 era, this Peet's Coffee follows all the regulations. The signage for social distancing and lining up are easy to follow, so you wont really get near any people. I visit Monterey a few times a year from Dallas, and I always look forward to going to Peet's Coffee since we don't have one in Dallas. Unfortunately, every time I've been in the last six months, I've encountered the same rude cashier. She smiles and greets other customers kindly, but when it comes to anyone who isn't white like herself, her attitude changes completely. Her ugly attitude and terrible service are incredibly frustrating and disappointing. It's appalling that someone like her represents one of my favorite coffee spots.
