While the grounds of the resort were rustic and beautiful, this category 8 Hyatt property is quite expensive. If you are into golfing it may be worth it, but if you enjoy spending time in a nice hotel room then you should look elsewhere where you can get a nicer room experience at a more affordable rate. Here are some of the issues I encountered during my stay in a Vintage Oak room with Outdoor Tub: - Upon arrival I inquired about EV charging with both the check-in staff and the bellman at the valet desk by the Lodge parking lot. I asked if it would be ok for me to leave my car charging overnight and was told that would be absolutely fine. In the morning as I was ready to head out I unplugged the charger to learn that the charging rate was by time and I was billed for the entire time my car was plugged in, which was 2x more than the car actually needed to be fully charged up. I would have appreciated this as a heads up from the staff, especially as I inquired about charging overnight. - Our booking package included a bottle of prosecco and bath items which weren't delivered until I made an inquiry about it. - The front desk staff asked about the purpose of our stay, to which we said it was a birthday celebration, and offered to gift us a bottle of pinot noir, but this was not delivered until I inquired about it the next day. - The room tier I had selected in my booking had an outdoor tub space with a fireplace that could be accessed both indoor and outdoors. However, for unit 289, we discovered that the outdoor space was not very private. From the gate to enter the patio, passersby could see directly into the room to the bed, or directly to anybody using the outdoor tub. Also, we could not open any blinds for the room without allowing full visibility into the room through the front window. In fact, since we were not the end unit of the building there were multiple times where people walking to the adjacent rooms walked by and could look at us directly in our rooms. There was nearly no privacy. From what I could tell, the next door rooms had a slightly different configuration where more fencing did help give more privacy. - The decor and equipment in the room was dated. The heater above the bed would blow directly onto our faces whenever it turned on. The louvres could be manually adjusted but it would reset every automatic on/off cycle back to blowing directly onto our faces. The sitting chairs in the room had stained cushions and had holes in the rattan which would snag onto clothes. The glass shower door could not be closed all the way without the glass door hitting the corner of the glass wall. - The indoor tub initially produced brownish water until we cycled it for a few minutes which hopefully was enough. - The outdoor tub didn't work at all until engineering staff came to fix it, which disrupted afternoon/evening plans. - Upon coming back to our room one afternoon there was a filled dirty laundry bag and cleaning supplies left outside by housekeeping, in the pathway leading to the entrance to the room. - After housekeeping left, we ended up with only one bathrobe in the room instead of two. That said, the staff I encountered at the front desk and at the Valley Kitchen were all very nice. The lodge had many fireplaces to hang out around, and nice S'mores kits in the evening. The pools looked relaxing, and we might have used them if it weren't for the cooler rainy days that haunted our stay. read more

Oh man, this place has so much potential but is a total disaster. We came here with 6 kids and 14 adults to celebrate my Mom's 75th birthday. She was/we all were so excited but one thing after another kept disappointing-- then add the price point and promise of luxury and excellence on top of it, and it's an embarrassment. Each time we'd bring up the disappointments they were responded to in a way that was disingenuous and lacked follow through, and there was never any kind of: "what can we do to fix it?" or "oh no! So sorry, here's an idea: can we try to fix it this way?" Just total apathy, like they know they're selling a lemon and have to play along and pretend in their role. My guess is they are just understaffed and underpaid, and don't really care, which makes total sense to me. I probably wouldn't either in their shoes. Anyway, a list of things that missed in no particular order: - There were open, used nail clippers with clippings around them when we arrived in our room. -Two of the pools do not allow kids under 16, which really brings down the kid friendly image. Kids pool is packed and swarming with yellow jackets. -Food throughout is gross--which was in weird contrast with their farm-y natural-y image they are trying to go for. Just a bunch of heavily processed, over-priced, over-salted, over-sugared, bland....honestly feels like whatever you could buy at Costco for a fraction of the price. - The main restaurant SUCKED. The food was just okay, but totally inconsistent (and meat was terrible quality). And the price point just ridiculous--barely 2 cups of vegetarian risotto for $42?! We ordered things that just never came or came waaay late (I mean, a side of veggies as they're clearing plates and bringing the check?). They never offered us desert, coffee or tea, just brought us the check. (For a large birthday party?) It took FOURTY MINUTES between finishing salads/appetizers and bringing entrees with no acknowledgement of what was happening, and the entrees were cold when they arrived...and half the salad/app plates never got cleared. Definitely NOT fine dining, and definitely NOT worth the almost two grand for a special family birthday dinner. -No one explained anything at check in--like, how to get around. The little information about how to utilize the property that is available is online....but the internet situation sucks/isn't workable in many places on the property. -Hot water is scalding and out of control/impossible to control and erratic (maybe changing with other people's use in other rooms?), and made it dangerous for my kids to shower (again, kills the kid-friendly/safe image). -Shuttles are inconsistent and would often just not show. We waited 30 minutes in the hot sun with small kids for a shuttle despite asking multiple times for one. (Again, NOT so kid-friendly). -Did someone switch off our light for housekeeping? We turned it on multiple times and our room was never made up (over 3 nights) . Did they just not have time to come after we called? Gross food just sat in our trash cans and towels piled up. -There were very few towels to begin with and no blankets for the pull out bed where they were supposed to be. We had to call for more and they took over an hour to arrive at night to make up the kids bed. (again the kid thing...) -Pillows are big and hard and uncomfortable, and only one type is in the rooms (Bluff suites and studios that our crew was in at least) I could keep going but I think this explains it some. This was just what our family of 4 experienced, I'm not even bringing up what other people in our group experienced! Two stars for the beauty of the property and the few things that went right. If you're planning on really investing a chunck of change to get loved ones together for a worthwhile experience, check out other places that have more capacity to really personalize and offer excellence and attention for special family occasions. This place is a nice idea but just misses. read more

Always so tranquil and relaxing. Love how everything is in one place on a mini-vacation. Carmel Valley Ranch has always been one of our favorite places to go for a quick getaway. It's on the pricier side of places to stay at in Carmel Valley, but in my opinion, it is well worth it. Upon entering this private Ranch, the friendly security officer greats you with a wonderful "Hello, Welcome to Carmel Valley Ranch" the gate opens and you get the scenery of the rolling hills and golf courses with a touch of the lavender fields instantly makes you feel giddy. Check in is easy. You have an option of contactless check in through the World of Hyatt app or physical check in at the lodge. I recommend going to the lodge, as the mobile key on your app is a bit wonky. As always, the rooms are beautiful and the view was spectacular from our room. I believe we were in the Treetop Suites rooms. PETS: One time charge of $150 Upon arrival there was a huge fluffy pillow bed and Milk Bone doggy treats along with a water and food dish waiting our little pooch. Nice touch! Activities: Lots of complimentary Fitness activities and some Hikes and garden meet and greets. There are chickens and Goats and Horses that you can visit. Hilltop Yoga is beautiful and I am assuming wonderful for the body (didn't get to try this, maybe next time) Dining: $$$$ The Valley Kitchen is delish and is the main restaurant. The market has yummy pastries and made to order coffee/espresso. The is the cafe at the golf course that serves Happy Hour food, but we didn't go here. Then the kiddie pool area has a cafe that serves typical burgers (delish) and Hot dogs (foot long) COVID related: -everyone is masked -hand sanitizers mounted everywhere -Everyone is distanced and is very mindful of each other. -S'Mores kits are individually packaged, don't forget the roasting sticks, go for the ones that can be extended. This is by far the best resort in Southern California. I am so amazed of how many activities that they have in the resort. They have golf, multiple hiking tracks, spas, and also exercise heavens (complimentary with the stay) Also all of the rooms are suite, with smallest suite @ 700 square feet, that is bigger than some apartments. Even better, during covid 19 independent suite is good for infection control. Bathroom includes floor heating, it's crazy. And the views are breathtakings, for all the suites. read more

Kids screaming, techno blaring from common areas due to "events", loud noise from within adjacent units (including footsteps), techno blaring heavy bass across the whole property. Did I mention techno blaring throughout the property? We are mid way through a 5 night stay... and front desk offered a nonsensical $100 off when asked when the loud music would stop. Had such a wonderful, beautiful and most importantly SAFE stay here. One of my biggest concerns about staying in a hotel during Covid was all the human interaction that could potentially happen, especially in tight spaces like an elevator, or in the lobby to check in. But at CVR, I didn't have to worry about any of that. First off, the property is HUGE, as in 500 acres, so there is so much outdoor space and you can be as distanced from everyone else as you want! Secondly, check-in was easy breezy and completely contactless as we were able to check in through the Hyatt App and get a mobile room key. And lastly, while there are shared hallways - there are no elevators needed to access your rooms - so no need to worry about being stuck in a metal box with anyone during these times. As an added Covid bonus, the AC/Heater are individual units so you don't have to worry about the air being circulated from room to room. The room itself was also just so beautiful & modern, with hardwood floors, a fire place and an amazing patio with a seating area and an outdoor tub! The resort does offer quite a few different activities you can partake in during your stay (you can find their activity calendar on their website - some are free while others you do have to pay for), but we opted not to take part this time around. I definitely plan on coming back again in the post-Covid future so I can take part in all the resort has to offer! read more

I had a 2-night stay with my family. The property itself is absolutely gorgeous. We loved the hot tubs, pools, fitness classes, and the corral with all the adorable animals. The breakfast at Valley Kitchen was hands down the best American breakfast I've ever had--delicious omelets, smoked salmon, and even the steel-cut oats were exceptional. It was such a beautiful and peaceful experience, and it would have been perfect except for what happened on our last day. After breakfast, we went to the spa locker room to check out the amenities. A middle-aged Latina staff member (I believe her name is Betty) came in while I was there. She watched me the entire time I was in the locker room, which lasted about a minute, and it made me feel extremely uncomfortable. Shortly after, another middle-aged Latina staff member, named Julisa, entered. The first woman said something to Julisa in Spanish, and they both turned and looked at me. It felt odd, like they were talking about me, and it was unsettling that one of them kept staring at me. I decided to leave, and the whole time, Betty continued to watch me. I walked to the spa shop next door, and to my surprise, she followed me inside. I thought it was strange. Then she spoke to the spa shop staff member, who then walked toward me without saying anything. It felt like they were talking about me again, and it was uncomfortable, but I brushed it off thinking it was nothing. Later that afternoon, my mom, sister, and I went to the hot tub at the Lodge to relax before checking out. After getting out of the hot tub, I took 3 towels from the pile (since there were 3 of us). A moment later, a staff member--Betty, who had seen me earlier that morning and followed me into the spa shop--came out and told me I couldn't take the towels. I was completely confused and asked, "Are we not allowed to use the towels?" She told me to call housekeeping. I explained that housekeeping doesn't provide pool towels. Without saying another word, she reached out and grabbed the towels from my hands. I was in shock. I asked her again, "Are we not allowed to use these towels?" She repeated, "Call housekeeping." I was so stunned that I didn't even know how to respond, so I just walked away. My mom and sister were left without towels to dry off, and we all had to walk back to our rooms dripping wet. I was extremely upset by what had just happened. Later, I went to the spa to use the swimsuit drying machine. While I was drying my swimsuits, I grabbed a towel to wipe my hands. Julisa--the same staff member who had spoken to the first woman Betty that grabbed my towels--came in and walked straight toward me. She told me, "You can't use that." I was so confused and asked her what she meant. Instead of answering, she spoke into her walkie talkie, and the young lady from the spa shop entered, as if she were backup. Now, the 2 of them were cornering me and blocking my path to the exit. I couldn't believe this was happening. I asked them what the issue was, and the older woman rudely demanded to know my room number. When I asked why I was being targeted and what the issue was, she refused to answer. So, I just walked out. This experience was truly shocking and incredibly degrading, especially at a Category 8 Hyatt resort. The staff members deliberately targeted me, bullying and harassing me without any explanation. They treated me like I didn't belong, despite being a paying guest. I should have reported the situation immediately to the front desk, but I was so upset that I just left and called the resort later. They investigated, but it became clear that those staff members fabricated a version of events that didn't reflect the truth. While management did apologize and made attempts to rectify the situation, it didn't change the awful experience I had with those women during what was supposed to be a relaxing family vacation. If you visit this resort & encounter rude behavior from Julisa & Betty, report it right away. Guests should never be treated in such a degrading, harassing manner. read more

While it is far from a RANCH (with horses, no?), it is a RESORT, totally. It is a spa. A getaway. Tennis courts and a golf property. A place to get away from it all and relax. And, it is a place where you play your fake violin while I had a 2-night / 3 day all-paid work conference. SCORE! The property is immaculate, every tree and every flower and every blade of grass manicured. I knew it would be good, just not THAT good. Deers and wild turkeys roam the property, and then there was me scootin' around with my mouth open. It's so beautiful everywhere you look. The food served during our conference was excellent. The facial I received at the Spa was one of the best I've had. The property is self-contained, Then, there was the room. Large bathroom, heated floors, tub, shower, very nice with high-end products: shampoo, conditioner, body soap, hand cream, bath salt, and soap. The outside balcony had a private tub that I made into a soapy wonderland. The room, with a double-sided fireplace with the balcony, was wonderful. The bed and pillows extremely comfortable. Plus, it's extremely quiet...I got amazing sleep. Overall, it's a special place that I hope, or lucky enough, to come again. read more

Our Overall Review: We spent our first night / first few days of our Honeymoon at Carmel Valley Ranch. There was a few complications in our room that we originally had reserved. But the staff and mangers made sure we enjoy every bit of our stay. We could not thank them any more. The staff members were friendly and helpful... definitely looking forward to staying here again and again, and again. Room Review: The room was beautiful. We were original supposed to stay in a one bedroom but due to problems in the room we were put into a studio room. You think it would be a bad thing? LOL. Had bad luck and happened to check in on a day when the systems were down so when I checked in they were unable to program key cards for me and we had to go in our room through the bellmen. The customer registration was one of the worse I had encountered (it seemed to be only this staff member). She did not welcome us as a Globalist, did not show us a map of the property, and did not give a welcome bag. The hotel system was down from about 3pm to 7pm with no wifi. Because we had work to do we were forced to go out of the property to find wifi. When the system was finally back up again and I went to get my room keys the same staff member did not apologize for any of the inconvenience. The property itself is nice but everything is really sprawled out. For example the fitness center is a mile away from the rooms so you would have to drive or request a shuttle to go. The breakfast was mediocre which I was disappointed as I thought all the ingredients were from the organic garden. My avocado toast had very little avocado and was piled with a lot of salad. To me this property is striving to have a vibe similar to Alila Ventana but I've much prefer Alila. read more

If you want the wedding of your dreams, avoid Carmel Valley Ranch AT ALL COSTS. Despite having a fully signed and agreed-to contract for months, CVR manipulated us over the course of almost half a year, until ultimately the Director of Events, Christina Richardson, called us to say that they will not be able to accommodate our wedding anymore and will be invoking their cancellation clause. Their contracts allow for them to cancel WITHOUT cause. So, until you are literally walking down the aisle... they can cancel your wedding for no reason! We discovered CVR in Feb '22 and immediately fell in love. It was a little out of our budget for our big Indian Fusion wedding, but we were able to get some more family support so that we could celebrate our special day the way we wanted. After signing the contract, everything went downhill. We had been promised a level of excellence and service, but were left empty: unanswered emails, false promises, unprofessional calls, and just sheer carelessness like spelling the bride's name wrong in emails. This was doubly disappointing because all their reviews have been good, but there clearly seems to be a turn in their service. During our original contracting process, we asked for room blocks for ourselves and our wedding guests, and CVR said it would be no problem, but would be a separate process/contract we do after we sign the venue contract. Shortly after signing our contract, we reached out about the room block. CVR then proceeded to ignore our request for over a month as we helplessly sent emails and called every 2-3 days. They finally came out of the dark and asked if we could get on a phone call. We immediately obliged, thankful to have made some progress. Sadly, we were faced with immediate disappointment as CVR asked us to MOVE OUR WEDDING DATE. They clearly demonstrated at the time that CVR should not be in the wedding business. They had zero empathy for us, and clearly functioned in support of corporations and profit. They never took into consideration a non-traditional ethnic celebration with many days of interconnected events that would also have to change. They never took into consideration that we told our grandparents and told family members traveling internationally who already applied for visas. In retrospect, there were early signs or red flags we missed when we signed the contract like their incessant attempts to price gouge and add unnecessary items/requirements. We said no, we'd like to keep our wedding date. CVR said they would get back to us on room blocks. Fast forward another 3 weeks of silence and my repeated emails requesting updates, when they finally come back and say they will not be able to accommodate any rooms. Why? Because months after we signed, ANOTHER COMPANY offered to buy out the whole property for our wedding weekend, and CVR let them. To hear that the CVR team booked a buyout after they delayed our request for a room block for months (and then ultimately rejected it) was absolutely gut-wrenching and Machiavellian behavior we could not have expected from any venue. Wedding planning is already stressful, and this news added extra burden as we now had no location to get ready or change between ceremonies as we are an interracial, cross-cultural couple having two ceremonies. We had guests traveling with small children, including breastfeeding mothers in the bridal party, who would now not be able to attend as they were relying on rooms on property for their comfort and necessity. We asked for their help in figuring out a solution. After ghosting us for another 2 weeks, we received a phone call saying that they will not accommodate our wedding anymore. They canceled our wedding with little remorse and zero backup plan! As we scrambled to find a replacement for CVR's misbehavior (we reached out to 103 venues), we finally accepted that it is going to be next to impossible to find a replacement venue on the same weekend anywhere WITHIN A 3 HOUR RADIUS. To the staff at CVR: I will never forget how you treated me. You claim to be a luxury resort, but my wedding planner read all the emails, and said you are the worst venue she has dealt with in 25 years. You made my last 9 months MORE stressful, MORE traumatic, and MORE expensive than any bride should ever have to deal with. To other brides and grooms reading this: I want your wedding to be amazing. Be smart and avoid these liars at all costs. Through calls, emails, in-person site visits, and texts, I spent NINETY-SIX HOURS going back and forth getting manipulated, lied to, and gaslit. I would not trust them for any wedding, especially multi-cultural celebrations. The venue cancellation destroyed me for weeks. I do not want this to happen to any other bride or couple getting married to ever have to go through this. I do not wish the stress that CVR caused on me, my fiancée, my family, and the people closest to me... on anyone. It's not worth it. Do not get married here. read more

I had the absolute best stay at CVR. I stayed here for a few days and was impressed with their COVID policies. You can download the Hyatt app and check in and check out through the app, and receive your mobile room key on the app, all without ever having to check in at the lodge. They also keep the rooms vacant for 24 hours between stays. And you can order dining from their main restaurant delivered to your room - All of this can be contactless. This made the resort appealing to me, enabling me to still enjoy my vacation while being cautious and limiting my interaction with others during a time like this. The suites are spaced across their massive property, and our suite specifically had a huge outdoor space for us to use which is great for a time like this. We spent a lot of our time on our private patio so definitely enjoyed this aspect of the suites. We had our pup with us so they provided dog amenities which included two dog bowls, a dog bed, two milkbone dog treats, and dog poop bags. One of the primary reasons we chose this resort (aside from their precautions for COVID), was that they are extremely dog friendly and have acres of land on their property for us to roam. We spent the first day on the golf course and absolutely loved that it is dog friendly. My pup loved being out there enjoying the fresh air with us, and we felt so much better having him with us rather than leaving him in the room. The golf course was absolutely stunning and is very well maintained. They also provide spike change service. We dropped off a pair of shoes at the clubhouse and within a couple of hours, they dropped off the shoes with new spikes in our room for us. We spent some time lounging at the pool. There is a pool attendant that helped us get set up with towels and adjusted the sunbrella for us as we needed. He was extremely nice and helpful! The seats are all 6ft+ distance from each other. We lounged by the pool and ordered pool side dining. Highly recommend the salmon salad over kale. I couldn't have asked for a more relaxing day! Overall, highly recommend staying here, especially if you have four legged fur babies. I've been pretty cautious and careful and hadn't even dined out at a restaurant in months since COVID started, but I felt comfortable with my stay here. read more

NEVER GO THERE WITH A BABY SPECIALLY. The place is gorgeous but service is pathetic. We booked two rooms. None of them got cleaned without us having to call four times. You can use their shuttles to go around the property. Some drivers of their shuttle service were completely inconsiderate. And did not want to help with the stroller or keep it inside. Only one actually helped us put it in the trunk. THE HEATING DOES NOT WORK IN THE ROOM. They were not able to help us. Imagine putting a baby in such low temperature. Had to turn on the fireplace the whole night. Not sure how harmful the fumes will be to my baby. Having such a terrible time here. Worst luxury hotel ever. Staff is great but absolutely zero management. Torn couch, lousy menu, dirty floors, room service is ok if you want get a cold hamburger, the manager is nowhere to be found, and they put us in a room that is worn, no amenities, and a very long walk to get to the restaurant (although the valet staff was great). Pretty obvious if you use Hyatt points they'll banish you to the hinterlands. BTW, we booked two nights, but we're leaving after for home after one night. We'd rather leave and eat the cost of the second night because IT'S JUST THAT AWFUL. Worst hotel experience we've ever had. Really a suck expensive experience. read more

The grounds are stunningly beautiful. The service is hit and miss. The food has gone way downhill from what was offered in previous years. There are far fewer activities offered now, and when we showed up for the Goat Gab and Organic Garden Tour, there was no tour or formal goat gab session. There was just a guy there who said that we could only pet the goats through the fence. All of this was fine, but what wasn't fine was how filthy our suite was! For close to a grand per night, it is completely unacceptable to offer a suite with marks on the toilet that come off with cleaning (yuck!!), a rug in the main room that had a strong greasy/stinky dog stench, and an unswept floor complete with a bobby pin and food particles. We had our dog with us, and we love dogs. The stench was strong, so much so that our crawling baby reeked of it every time she crawled on the rug. I mentioned this very politely to the front desk, and they said they would call housekeeping to swap out the rug, sweep the floor, and give the toilet and rest of the room a better cleaning. We kept our dog out of the room, but no one ever showed up, so we waited for our cleaning the following day. They came and went, leaving behind the dirty rug and filthy floor. This feels so wrong given the price of this place! I expect much better. read more

I used my points to redeem two nights in carmal valley ranch. TLDR: I was very disappointed and couldn't be happier when I finally came back home. Cleanliness needs a big improvement. There was a uncleaned, half eaten cookie near the bed (not under). soils on sofa, both indoor and outdoor. bathroom was clean though. The worst thing was the room itself. We were assigned the Bluff suites where 3 rooms on lower level (+2 rooms on upper level looking directly at you) share the outdoor area. There is literally 0 privacy because people can directly walk to the sliding door where your bed is facing so if you get neighbors you either choose your privacy or 0 natural light. Honestly I'd rather have a small balcony. During the second night, guests next door let their dog out unleashed on that small outdoor area and that dog kept barking at our sliding door. Noise...I could hear people shower, slam the door, walk...Have fun at 8am on your vacation day because kids in any nearby suite will start chasing and screaming outside of your sliding door. Awesome place for a getaway with friends or loved ones. Upon checking into the "Lodge" I was really impressed by how clean the establishment was. Concierge was friendly and check-in was quick and easy. Service was also great, between shuttling our belongings to the room, to providing us with additional amenities. The resort itself was beautiful. There were a lot of activities to do, and a lot of free and paid options to choose from. We took a nice stroll through the trails, visited the farm animals, and had complimentary s'mores later that night by the fire pits. I highly recommend having dinner at the restaurant during sunset as you get a beautiful view of the vineyard. The double bed suite was also very spacious and clean. It's a lot bigger than it looks in pictures! The beds were so comfortable and design and amenities were modern and up to date. It was like an upscale version of glamping. Even the pull out couch was comfortable. Best part is that the resort was very dog friendly. I loved that they had a dog menu at the restaurant. My pup very much enjoyed the outdoors. Our recent stay at CVR was a challenge to say the least. We hope the details will help them improve, and inform future guests. First off, almost all staff we interacted with were amazing. Jocelyn at the checkin, John at the Corral were exceptionally warm. We also loved all the animals and fun little events. The order of events which led to our negative review: - Checked into a estate room with a kitchenette, helpful for our infant daughter. - 3 year old and infant sleep after the drive while we unpacked. Receive a call that there will not be hot water during our stay. We are given a choice to pack and unpack at another room across property, or have no hot water. We chose to stay as it would take multiple hours to setup all childrens items. We are told water will be fixed asap. We are eventually given access to another room for showers. - 2nd night of our stay, weird noises occur below our room, and suddenly, fire alarm goes off. Both children are awake and crying, couldn't settle them until 2am. During this time, the construction crew let us know that the welding for the water heater set off the alarm. This construction occurred at 11:30pm. - AC was broken. Didn't impact us as it was cool at night, but temps reached 80+ during the afternoon. We ended up having the kids nap in the car. We've stayed at this property many times prior, and this was the only time we've had any issues. Not sure what happened here. In the end, we were offered the equivalent of a comped dinner and some hyatt points. read more

On our honeymoon, and so thankful that Carmel Valley Ranch was one of our stops this week. It came highly recommended from a family friend, and we can see why. The property is gorgeous, I mean the views just cannot be beat. I'll add some photos but I know they won't do it justice. They have tons of amenities, pools, activities! Complimentary s'mores every night until 10PM was a fun touch, and fit right in with the nature vibe of Carmel valley. We loved just walking through the property - the lavender fields, vineyards, gardens. Lots of wildlife. Every afternoon the pack of turkeys would give us a show from our balcony. We took advantage of the hiking trails in the mornings, and would have loved to play basketball or bocce if they had been open! We didn't realize many of the activities advertised on their website were scheduled throughout the day rather than an activity that can be done whenever you please. With heading into Carmel and Monterrey to explore, we didn't make it to many of the activities we would have liked to just because the timing wasn't quite right for us. Our room was awesome loved the fireplace for colder afternoons and evenings while onlooking the beautiful view. Though there were some hiccups with the room along the way. We couldn't keep the toilet filled with enough water to regularly flush, would be annoying in the middle of the night when you can't get the toilet to flush AGAIN. We got one of the rooms with the kitchenette which was nice to have for breakfast and snacks. Although it came stocked with only one fork lol, no soap or sponge for washing dishes, no kitchen towels so we dried them with bathroom towels - just should be stocked with these things for regular use if we're paying for the room with the kitchen. We also pressed a button by the front door that said "make up room", we come back 4 hours later and nothing had been cleaned so we called the front desk. They told us the "better way" to let them know we need our room cleaned is to call them. They only had an hour left in the day and didn't have time to clean our room now...Hmmm. When you're paying almost $600 a night I'm sorry but that's just unacceptable in my opinion. If you're charging me that much, service comes at a higher standard. And for us it just didn't fit the bill. Overall, this was a good place to stay, and we're glad we did! For us, the service didn't knock our socks off. If you're in for a splurge with gorgeous views and lots of activities, I think it's worth it. Just don't expect the luxurious, next-level service you may be more familiar with in similar priced upscale resorts - not quite up to par. read more

What a nice place to stay and golf. Six couples purchased a one night stay with two days of unlimited golf at the Ranch. The resort is beautiful. Unfortunately we didn't spend much time outside of the golf course. The golf Course is very nice. The first day we played from the white tee and we found it a bit short for women so opted to play from the lavender tees on the second day. Some downhills and some uphills. Some lakes you can hit your ball in, some wind On the second day. The rooms are beautiful! Our studio suite was huge and had an outdoor bathtub. I wished I had time to use it!! There was a nice two sided fireplace which warmed Our room and the outdoor deck. The bedsheets were fabulous and so soft that I wondered what the sheet count was. I was in heaven. And then the bathroom floors are heated! And I love all the complimentary Bath crystals and soap, cotton balls and q-tips, kettle chips, apples, Cliff bars and trail mix. Very very nice touch. I also enjoyed the robes and complimentary sandal slippers! The only thing was the two rattan chairs in the suite was not very comfortable. Too hard on my back and just uncomfortable. Also, the sliding glass Door and fireplace glass should be cleaned better so I could see out better! We also ate at the golf course restaurant. Great eggs Benedict with avocado which I shared with my husband. The coffee, however, runs $6 a mug. But you are in Carmel - so just to warn you. Carmel Valley Ranch - Beautiful 11th hole - Hotels Near Me - Carmel, California

We've been to Carmel Valley Ranch 3 times and it never disappoints. The first time we went was in 2016 where we got engaged, and most recently we returned this month for a family weekend getaway and booked 3 rooms. I will admit that the restrooms have dated a little bit this most recent time we went, but all the top notch amenities and great service make this consistently a positive experience. Before our daughter, we loved the adult only pools (there are two pools that are 16 years+) - super lux feel and comfortable without having to fight for lounge chairs/beds. This most recent time, we had our toddler with us so we made sure we paid attention to the amenities and participated in some of them - we especially enjoyed the "Garden Meet & Greet" where we got to visit a small farm area with goats and chickens and the nightly "Smores" was fun by the fire. The family friendly ambiance and activities made this stay go by so fast as they kept our toddler busy! We wish we had planned for more time at the family friendly pool but we ran out of time as we were trying to squeeze in sightseeing in downtown Carmel as well. Hopefully we can return in the future and plan to spend more time at the resort to maximize all that CVR has to offer! We love the top notch breadth of amenities, friendly service, and comfortable/spacious rooms! read more

We stayed here after Thanksgiving as a trial run for a planned Christmas stay. I am so glad we did. The hotel property is huge with many activities and things to do and see. It is definitely a family friendly resort, i.e. lots of little kids. The decor and ambiance of the main building was welcoming and festive for the holidays. All of the staff were very friendly and genuinely welcoming. The room was large with a separate living space, large bedroom and large bathroom all connected by a central hallway. The view of the valley was beautiful. The room itself needed a lot of TLC, as did other areas of the property. Many of the posts for the outbuildings had visible wood rot. Our living room cabinets that hid the mini fridge were falling off the hinges and scraping the floor. The sofa was covered in dog hair which even made me itch, and I'm not allergic. That was gross. The closet had cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and was missing a cover for the light on the ceiling. However, the worst part was finding not one, not two, but three bugs, spiders and/or beetles in the bed when we pulled back the covers! To top it off, the duvet on my side of the bed had a large yellow stain on it. This experience alone convinced us to cancel our Christmas reservation and stay elsewhere. Three months later, I am dealing with repeated charges to my credit card for my stay in November AND for the canceled Christmas trip! The people I'm working with to resolve the issue and trying their best and understand my frustration but it is still an unnecessary hassle. I won't return for another stay. read more

Overall I really enjoyed my stay at this resort. It has a ton of amenities and I really loved it. I did not mind paying the $55 resort fee per day because it includes, free parking, smores, pool usage, many classes and an over all beautiful resort w walking paths and gorgeous views. I loved our room coffee maker, filtered water and ice, reusable water bottles, nice patio w bath tub, fire place and pretty view. You feel very secluded. I loved the adult pool and the free cabanas, that are first come, first serve. The food here was very good and service was very good as well. The doggie fee of $175 per stay was not bad. We come to carmel often and this will be our go to resort. What was not great is the rooms are dated. The tile in our bathroom was heated but several tiles were broken and or stained. The floors were also scratched up. We did have our dogs so maybe we got the doggie room, not sure. For over $800 to $1000 per night I think the rooms need a refresh. Everything is beige, from floor to ceiling, beige. It is not as pretty as it could be. Over all I love it here and would return. read more

The WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! The F&B inside the golf clubhouse is awful. This is now the second time in as many months an order was placed and food not made. Yes, we made an order--it was written down. Then the bartender/server never checked in on us and never, apparently, checked in on the order. You might wonder--"oh, they must have been busy". Nope, we were the ONLY people sitting indoors at a table. If I were the owner of this place, I'd fire everyone and start over. It's that bad. The ineptness makes mediocrity look good--and it's not. The golf course is wonderful however with a very good team of people. I never wish to post this type of review--ever--but this situation X 2 calls for it. At least for now, AVOID THE GOLF COURSE DINING ROOM AT ALL COSTS, as the staff is asleep at the switch. read more

Beautiful property, but not great for strollers. We stayed here for our wedding anniversary, our first one after having a baby, and had a great time despite some inconveniences of coming here with a baby. Pros: - Beautiful and serene property - Rooms are spacious, clean, and modern. The king bed was plush, the pillows were amazing, and the sheets felt great. - Food at the restaurant was fantastic. They have a breakfast buffet, a bar at the outdoor pool area, and are open from 7am to 10pm each day. - Lots of activities to do and places to roam around on the property. - Felt very safe as we had to check in with the security at the closed gate each time we entered. - Free s'mores, tote bag, and reusable water bottles at check in. - The views of the vineyards and the hills were incredible. This is one of the reasons why you come here is to have the gorgeous view of the valley. - The Organic Garden was so beautiful with sunflowers, artichokes, chickens, and nice areas to have a picnic and plenty of benches for resting. Cons: - Hiking trail from the Lodge to Vineyard Lawn isn't accessible via stroller without going down a few stairs. Also passage through vineyards is steep. - You have to take a shuttle to get to kid's pool area. The pool area next to the Lodge is off limits to those under 16 (we got kicked out with a stroller despite the front desk staff telling us it was okay to be there with a stroller) - Our outdoor soaking tub can be fully seen from of the balcony of room next door through the twig wall. Our neighbor had a dog so every time we went out on the balcony, it would bark. - We needed to go down 3 flights of about a dozen steps to get to our room which wasn't great with a stroller and rolling luggage. - Hike from the Lodge to the Organic Garden is a dirt path and has curbs (not great for strollers or wheelchairs). - You have to log in to the Wifi with their system so our baby camera via wifi didn't work. - Most of the activities cost money and it's not cheap (e.g., $95 per person for candle making class, $145 per person for 2 hours of the kids spending time with animals, etc.). We wanted to do the free hilltop meet and greet and they told us we couldn't as we needed to make a reservation (the online activity calendar said no booking required). read more

One of my favorite dish is their amazing pancakes! Super fluffy and light. We lived our room and the patio outside. Went on a hike and it was such a peaceful, beautiful and relaxing! Review from the desk of Flopsie the Corgi. Grounds: My gawd. This place is massive. If I were a big strong Golden Retriever, I'd roam this ranch like a wild turkey (which they also have). My legs are short and Im lazy so you'd think I'd hate being on a ranch but I don't. Why? Because they have gold carts and shuttles to drive my lazy corgi butt around. Yeah. I was golf carted back and forth from my suite to the main lodge, then shuttled over to the lavender field. I mean, I walk all the way from my room to the road on the side of the building (17 steps) to get onto the golf cart. Don't worry. Ranch life is made possible for those of us who just want to live lazily. There are poop stations around the grounds. There are deers. I tried to chase Bambi. My mom did not approve. There are wild turkeys. Technically a gang of 10+ so I didn't mess with them. They could eat me like a Snickers bar. The Organic farm has goats, bees and chickens - while I would've like to get into the chicken pen and show them chicks a thing or two, dogs are not allowed in the organic farm. Just you wait! Food: Dog menu. Need I say more? Ok, so my hoomin ordered room service and in the room service menu, there's a dog menu. So basically, I can say "bring me a bone marrow" and boom! A bone marrow magically appears at my room. Pool: This is not my ideal situation (so minus 1 star). Dogs are not allowed in pool areas unless you're a "service" dog. Technically, I bring joy and laughter to people which I consider a "service" but the ADA defines service dog a little differently. Anyways, my hoomin found a shady spot outside of the pool area, brought me some water, and I chilled outside while my hoomin went for a swim. I would've preferred a dog cabana next to my hoomin's chair inside the pool area. Oh, it would be better if they could add a frozen watermelon so I can enjoy that poolside. read more

We booked 9 suites and rooms for my son's wedding at this resort Oct 4-6. . Beautiful location and grounds. Checking in was easy, but unusual that they asked me and all my guests if we wanted daily housekeeping. I said of course, who wouldn't their rooms cleaned and fresh towels for $1800 per night. I thought that was unusual after staying in more than 500 hotels in my 77 years of age and never been asked that question. I asked if that was an extra charge to have our suite cleaned. She responded "no "but some people want their privacy. I responded then those people can post their "do not disturb door hangers" or screens. Well that's our policy was her response. I went to our room just feeling that was an awful policy and a scapegoat for the room cleaning staff. Boy, was I right! Repeatedly phone call to get our room cleaned on the day after we checked in and blatant lying by the housekeeping desk that our "do not disturb" sign was displaying at our door. We never illuminated that sign. We were sitting in the room most of the day when the cleaners claimed to have come by and reported that the "do not disturb sign" was illuminated. No one came to our door, no one knocked on the door, no one phoned the room. They sent a text at 4 pm that they respected our privacy and have tried to clean our room but they don't clean rooms after 5 pm. I called them for the 3rd time with a raised voice and they finally send a cleaner at approx 6 pm after going in and out of our dirty room all day. I learned the next morning that 3 of our family members in their respective rooms had similar experiences. Seems like the cleaning staff will hardly make any efforts to clean rooms, especially knowing that their backs are covered by that unbelievable optional room cleaning policy at check in! The suite was supposedly among their best, with a torn sofa, 1 tiny closet and really shabby furniture. The bath towels, hand towels and wash cloths were motel 6 quality and only 2 each. The bed was comfortable- that's the only good thing about the room and their food and beverage folks did a great job with my son's wedding and that was the main event so we forgive all other shortcomings. I recounted all this at checkout to the young lady at the desk who apologized but didn't write down a word I said to her about the service. I suppose that's their policy too. Maybe she wrote it down after I left. I try to give people in the service industry the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately or fortunately for them, they'll never see me and my family again. Back up to the Pebble Beach hotels where a suite is a suite and no one asks you if you want your rooms cleaned. read more
