The view from the forest suite deck is very true to its name...green and shaded. 75% view is from the 2 giant trees right in front of the deck, 20% view is from the road, and the remaining 5% is hill view if you look to the top left corner. The tiny winged neighbors also like to get up close and personal. It depends on what you prefer, this suite might be perfect for you (not me). There are benefits of being a globalist, but getting better than average room definitely is not one of its perks. I often saw other globalists with better views or upgraded suites (even premium), but I am 0 for 8 stays so far... Anyway, besides the "view", most things at least met expectations, and you can read all about the pluses in other people's reviews. read more

We had a fantastic stay here last weekend for a short first time stay with our family. We were put in a bluff suite with a beautiful view! Everything was ready when we arrived late including a crib for our daughter all set up which is not always the case even when requesting one ahead of time! The food was delicious and we ate in the restaurant and had room service for breakfast and dinner. Our family enjoyed that heated pool at the river lodge and our girls loved feeding the chickens, watching the goats, and exploring the gardens. The tree swings were super fun and we hope to try the Smore's next time we visit. read more

We loved our stay at the beautiful Carmel Valley Ranch resort. The views were absolutely spectacular. We saw wild turkeys roaming around showing off their plumes. What a sight. Just below our suite in the vineyards. We were driven up to our suite via Golf cart with our suitcases. It was nice. The suite was very spacious with comfortable chairs and couch. The couch was a pullout to accommodate additional guests. The decor was nicely done in muted browns and grey. You could close off the living room if you wanted additional privacy. The king size bed was very comfortable. Not to mention the outside bathtub on the balcony. What a treat, too bad it was too cold to jump in. However, there was a nice bathtub in the bathroom. I took a long hot bubble bath which was really nice. There is nothing like relaxing yourself to sleep afterwards. A large rain shower separate from the bathtub. The toilet was closed off separate from the rest of the bathroom. The suite had high tech electrical lighting with Alexa available if you chose to use her. read more

We stayed in a Ranch Suite. Unfortunately, the new carpet smell was noxious and overwhelming as soon as we entered into the bedroom. Carmel Valley Ranch could have taken the time to air out the unit. The view did not match the nice view of the valley and greenery on the website. Imagine paying $668 for a view of the parking lot where people get picked up by a shuttle and chat loud enough to hear while waiting. Our deck had a ton of bird droppings. We didn't end up going into the deck as a result. The bathtub faucet made a cranking, banging noise. It sounded like the faucet or pipes were breaking down. The ice machine was broken and I had to wander around to try to find a working one. This was a disappointing experience that I don't care to repeat again. read more

Save the headache and don't have your wedding here. The wedding planner is super unresponsive, stands you up and doesn't listen to your requests about what you want for your wedding. Was ready to commit to my wedding here, but after the wedding coordinator kept ghosting me and confusing my wants, I went somewhere else. It's a shame because it's a beautiful property but if your wedding is important to you, I suggest going somewhere where they actually listen to you and communicate in a timely manner. read more

The cocktails tasted just...off. The bartender seems really angry at his coworkers for some reason and will complain to you about them when you order a drink....like, ok? Can I just get my wine please? - terrible food -- bizarrely, the ingredients are obviously high quality, but the preparation is bland and tasteless. The burger had NO seasoning, almost tasted like (high quality) boiled meat. - most of the staff seems a bit frazzled, disinterested, and confused, and are definitely not as friendly or courteous as Bernardus down the street. "Can we put in an order?..."uh...I guess so"... - the bell boys (bellpeople?) who are supposed to drive you in the carts to your room seem like you're really bothering them Overall, a stunning location, the outdoors tubs are lovely, the rooms are nice enough, but good god what's up with the staff?? read more

Recently stayed here for a lil getaway & we were very impressed & Happy we did. First we liked that the ranch is a gated property, from the moment we checked in to the moment we checked out we were treated very well, our room welcomed us with wine & a welcome card, we were given a tote bag w/ 2 reusable water bottles that came in handy during our walk on one of their 3 trails (we took the one that led to the corral, which was so cute & fun) we also strolled thru the vineyards after dinner and it was perfect. The Valley restaurant staff know how to treat guests & the food was enjoyable as well. The evening fire pits & s'mores kits provided are such a Great idea! This is our third stay at the ranch, this time at the Carmel suite (1200 sqft), great views overlooking the lodge. The place continue to be outstanding, the service, food, activities, jacuzzi, open fire pits (burning oak wood) in the evenings with complementary smores roasting, Hersys bars and graham crackers! okay - so this is hard and I'm not entirely sure how to rate this resort. The grounds are breathtaking but let's be honest, that comes naturally with the location. Everything is pretty average, I guess I was expecting to be more wow'd. Also if you are specifically looking for the room that has the dual sided fireplace, outdoor tub and swing/couch thing - I'd call to book to clearly specify. I booked online and it showed the pictures of that and I got something completely different. Had I known what I would have been arriving to I probably wouldn't have booked it. Seemed insanely high priced for such a basic room and an outdoor bath tub on a dusty patio. The service from the hotel was mediocre, at best. The kindest person we got was the night shift Robert - he was SO sweet and communicative when we arrived at midnight. That's about where the good service started and ended. Everyone after that was pretty dull, distant and made you feel like you were imposing. The best thing about this resort is the restaurant, honestly some of the best food I've had in a while and the service was amazing. (you can peep my review on their yelp). Everything about that restaurant was perfect, I wish the resort itself delivered their level of service. I will be posting a review of the Spa, but to keep it short - save your money! This is such a beautiful property. The rooms are a bit dated...the air/heater, bathroom fan, and fridge make very loud noises, that kept us up at night. I don't recommend sleeping on their sofa beds. Other than that, the rooms are nice. The bathroom is nice but the doors are like window blinds, so there is no soundproofing. The main living area had hardwood floors, which was nice. The balcony is large, with decent views of the golf course. We stayed in room 234, which is right by the parking area. The restaurant is the only downside to this resort. The food was very bland and nothing special. For the prices, the value and quality just aren't there. Avocado toast was $22, And additional cost for every little thing added. I don't mind paying for quality dishes...but both days, each of our breakfast dishes were mediocre at best. For 3 people to have breakfast, it was over $100. The egg dishes were bland and pretty basic. The service is a little lagging too. Other than that, I recommend this place for a family vacation. Next time we would go down the street to eat. Room/property: The room is very nice, spacious, fancy large bathroom, balcony, fireplace, walk in closet and tons of room for the dog to roam around. We love how dog friendly this property is. They even let her on the shuttles! The property is great with trails all over. Beautiful! We saw wild turkeys, deer, a hawk on a parking post, squirrels, bunnies, and a bobcat! Until all the families with small kids arrived for the weekend, it was a quiet, peaceful property that felt like we were alone. Activities: Beekeeping... very cool. I wasn't interested in this but my wife wanted to do it and I think I liked it better than she did! Dress out and go in to learn about the bees and help change our some of the trays in the boxes. Hilltop meet and greet... amazing. My wife got to sit down with 10 day old baby goats. They climbed on her, ate her hair, she loved it! Then we got to hug the 1500 lb Scottish Highland cow. The workers were outstanding! Falconry... probably the most amazing experience I have ever had. Snuggling with a great horned owl and having a hawk land on your arm from the sky will blow your mind! Food: We had breakfast at the lodge restaurant two days in a row. The buffet had lots of selection but isn't quite ready when they open at 7:00. It still did the job. We also had dinner and drinks there one night and it was fine. I had the burger and truffle fries. My wife had the pizza, which was a little wet. They brought us champagne for our anniversary, a really thoughtful touch. We found it interesting that the manager walking around at breakfast asked if everything met our expectations. At $1400 a night, you should be trying to exceed expectations!!! Sunset dinner: This one gets its own section. $232 for two adults. Mediocre buffet bbq, most of it cool by the time we got it to our table. Communal seating at picnic tables pushed together. Not the sunset dinner we envisioned. We thought at that price point that we would have a nice, romantic sunset dinner together with high level food. We instead sat next to people's kids running around swinging sticks in the air while squeezing between families to try to eat "together" ... and food that I can easily outdo at home. We left after one trip to the buffet line. We would not recommend this unless you are feeding 7 kids for free. If we knew what it really was, we would not have gone. This is the only part of the trip that was truly disappointing. read more

We had a wonderful stay at Carmel Valley Ranch! This is our first vacation since COVID. We stayed 5 nights - worked the first half and enjoyed the rest of the weekend. We felt very safe staying here with their expansive grounds and friendly staff. We always opted for takeout from the restaurant and the food is well-packaged and tasty. There were a few minor misses such as the phone in the room not working and getting a very filthy yoga mat, but I've overlooked these minor issues in light of everything else well taken care of. I requested a Microwave for our room and that appeared in our room on arrival :) Every time we requested items, they were brought over within a reasonable amount of time (less than 30minutes) in one or more trips. As for activities - there's obviously a gorgeous golf range. There are some unique gardens and activities for the family such as bee-keeping, a great fitness area (that we did not get to leverage due to the pandemic), nice trails for jogging and hiking. One of the hikes connected to a 14mile loop. We only got 2 miles in, but it was a very pretty hike with panoramic views of the valley. I'm telling all my friends and coworkers about CVR and have already booked our next trip back! Thank you for making me feel so pampered and taken care of during this odd year. read more

Only played golf here, but I must say the service was superb. A little pricey, but if Im in the area, I would certainly return. The golf round was $100 but it comes with a cart, unlimited range balls (on a nice grass range) and cold water bottles. The course is short but challenging with narrow fairways, plenty of water and bunkers. The more and more I write, I want to play it again and score better! read more

This place is amazing. Just a warning though: If you stay here, you will not go to Carmel-by-the-Sea. You will not do any scenic 17-mile drives. You will not visit any aquariums. You will simply alternate sitting by the pool, in your suite, and on your balcony. And every night after dinner you'll go to fire pits outside The Lodge for smores. You won't leave. We spent 4 nights in a Hilltop Garland Suite (#240). It was secluded, had beautiful views, and was a large, gorgeous suite. The bathroom is beautiful and well stocked, the room are clean, and the fireplaces (yes, plural) are warm and on timers. The patio furniture is comfortable and the views are amazing (we saw woodpeckers, wild turkeys, and deer). Favorites: - Beautiful, clean rooms - Pool and hot tub views - Fun places to explore (swings, garden, hikes, vineyards) - Smores every night from 5-10 (and you can find private fire pits all over to enjoy) - Beautiful spa with great services (and after your massage, they give you a cupcake!) Areas for Improvement: - Poor poolside service both visits, literally no acknowledgment when others were getting served. We really left wondering if we were supposed to ring a bell or something? We would have ordered drinks/snacks, but no one seemed at all interested. - Not a lot of options for on-site meals. The Lodge was fine, but not the variety we wanted. - For the price, you'd expect more warm/personal service...its just not totally there. Recommendations for future visitors: We loved our room - the adjacent parking, the beautiful and private balcony, the nice walk to The Lodge, and the views. But in looking at other rooms and their locations, there are clearly some rooms you'd want to avoid (and maybe they were priced or classed accordingly? I don't know.) But from my outsider view, it looked like some similar garland suites had balconies that literally overlooked walkways or parking lots. Or parking was forever away from the room. And some rooms would make a nighttime walk to The Lodge more challenging. Just based on our exploration of the resort, I wouldn't want to stay at the Bluff Suites or probably even at the Tree Top Suites. We really enjoyed the Valley Suites and would recommend those suites overlooking the 12th or 13th hole. read more

Do not stay here if you plan on relaxing for the weekend and sleeping in past 5 AM the gardeners start with their loud gas leaf blowers at 5 AM blowing everything from sidewalks to parking lots and waking up everybody with no consideration of the guest as they claim their a private business and don't have to follow noise ordinances. This is a review on the restaurant, not the hotel itself. The environment is pleasant, and the children's buffet is very convenient. The ceviche is not worth it, as it is rather bland and over half jicama root rather than fish. The pork belly and scallop is amazing, but it only comes with a single larch scallop. The duck pasta is excellent. The main reason I'm reviewing this 3 stars is that the salmon gave my father mild food poisoning, likely from the rice, since the fish was perfectly cooked. read more

Very disappointing experience. Kept waiting for our room for hours even though there were plenty of rooms available. The prices are triple for what they should be for the quality of experience. Staff poorly trained didn't know how to pour a bottle of Champagne and during our sunset supper there was constant clearing and prepping tables that was both lid and clattering for following morning breakfast. We felt like we were in a camp canteen. If the experience had been $300 then that might have been ok but $1000 a night is not acceptable. Cannot recommend, we were happy to leave. Not for couples as a luxury getaway more suited to families with kids camp. read more

CVR is a gem, gently nestled in the hills of Carmel Valley. We stayed two nights in the Vineyard Oak Studio and enjoyed every minute. The resort has really adapted well amidst the pandemic, the provide text message updates for the on-goings of the resort, their outdoor dining is really pleasant and well done...it doesn't really feel all that different which makes it a great getaway. Connor at the front desk was extremely helpful and accommodating. I recommend getting a CVR gin and tonic with the Empress gin and sitting on your patio, taking in the views of the vineyards. read more

How have I lived in the bay area and not been here before. I was here for a work offsite and then stayed on for the weekend, on my dime off course. ;-) I have been to Carmel by the Sea countless times but this is my first time in Carmel Valley. The Ranch is a great place to step off from the treadmill and just unwind and relax. They have a nice well equipped gym with lots of classes. Tennis courts, golf course, goat and chicken feedings and lot of other activities for kids and families. The favorite for most people who visit I am going to guess is the smores by the fireplace near the pool in the evenings. The room was just OK I thought. It was older and could use a reno. It had a nice view of the golf course from the balcony though. It is a big property, so don't be shy about getting a ride on the golf cart. Super nice employees and good dining options. read more

Been here half a dozen times now. First time ever was before kids. It was the most romantic and relaxing place. Fast forward to two kids later and it's still our happy place! The service is always impeccable. Now we get two adjoining rooms so one kid can sleep in the pack and play in the bedroom where there are blackout shades and the other can sleep on the pullout and not wake the baby when she needs to go to the restroom at night. We can sleep in our own room and either get a sitter or order in room service and have a low key date night in our pjs! Love love love this place and so glad they're a part of a bigger hotel chain so we can use points if we want to! Can't wait to take the kids to make s'mores tonight! read more

I really wanted to like Carmel Valley Ranch but our stay was mediocre to say the least. We went for my mother and grandma's birthday. They prepared a bottle of wine for the special occasion and we liked the gesture. BUT everything else that happened during our stay have deterred us from ever visiting the ranch again. Dinner: We made a dinner reservation at the Valley Kitchen at 7. We arrived early at 6:45pm and were accommodated which I appreciated. However, after we ordered, our food did not arrive until 8:13pm. My grandma fell asleep while waiting for the food. Service was not very attentive. Our server was not present more than half the time. Taste of the food alright, felt a little overpriced. Room: With the price of the suites we expected the place to be clean but we saw spiderwebs in a lot of places. The carpet was partially dug out and torn. More importantly when I tried to close the curtains to the backyard I hit the edge of the fireplace and almost cut myself. The edge was fairly sharp and poses as a safety hazard. Also, we had two suites booked and each room had different items missing. For example, one room we had a kettle but the other one didn't. My room did not have the bubble bath or bath salt that were included in my mother's room. I requested it through guest services. We called after 30min of waiting and were told the delivery was marked as completed even though we didn't receive anything and nothing was left by the front door. In the end it took a whole hour for them to deliver two small things. Check-out: During our check-out process, I noticed charges for breakfast ($188) and dinner ($4) which we did not have. Our dinner was paid for the night before and not charged under the room number. The staff's reply was that maybe another customer has been mixing up the wrong room number with ours. This is a terrible system as anyone can claim any room number and have the charge be delivered to someone else accidentally or on purpose. They do not check whether the customer is really the person staying in the rooms. I appreciated that the staff took these charges off immediately but they shouldn't have been on my card or under my room in the first place. Had I not check my bill I would've paid for these dinner and breakfast charges that weren't mine or my family's. read more

Loved this resort ! Everyone was friendly. The grounds are amazing . Property is located on 500 acres. Our room was serene with plenty of living space. I loved the patio and the two fire places. Plenty of choices for pools family and adult. We took the long hike to the top where the view was spectacular. Ian was our guide and taught us a lot along the way. Not everything was reopened due to the virus. The capacity was 1/2 but service still full. I can't wait to come back with family and friends. Oh yeah I forgot to mention the sun was wonderful. We decided to take a last minute little birthday trip to a place that seemed good for my husband and I, and fun for our two young (under 5) daughters. We were definitely not disappointed by CVR. The property was stunning, the staff was over the top friendly, there's tons to do, and the food was amazing. It's hard to find a place that's this nice and doesn't make us feel a bit guilty, one way or the other, for bringing our small kids. This place is different, they make it a point to be family friendly and I can't express how much I appreciate that. Good stuff: - family friendly - beautiful property - very friendly staff - Valley Kitchen restaurant was amazing - complementary s'mores every night - kids camps - pools - nice rooms - lots of wildlife Some stuff that could've been better: - someone started using a gardening blower out by the pool at 6am!! I have to say, this place is incredible. Wife and I came here on honeymoon (using Credit card points, I will say) and loved it. The king rooms with outdoor tubs are incredibly comfortable and luxurious. We were super impressed by how friendly, accommodating, and helpful all the staff were, from the check in desk people to the valet to the concierge to the coffee shop ladies. There are so many little nice touches (you pay for them, after all!)- nightly smore kits available to roast at their several fire pits, and the outdoor locations and scenery were incredible for walks and being outside in general. We didn't take advantage of many of the experiences (like a bee keeping tour) available, but we're really impressed with the quality of everything here in general. Lots of families and dogs! Beautiful property and lovely guest rooms but lacking in service. A few things that happened: -my husband and I ordered room service on the first night. When the food arrived we were told that the soup I had ordered "didn't make it" and they would bring us a new one. 15 minutes later the attendant showed up with the soup. Over the course of the next two days there were large broken shards of glass from the bowl of soup sitting outside our front door... they had never bothered to pick up the pieces of glass on the busy walkway. -on day two, my husband and I went to get massages at the spa. Upon arrival at the spa, we got the most brief, haphazard rundown of the spa. Normally, when you're spending almost $400 at a spa the staff will take the time to show you around and talk about the amenities. Upon opening my locker, the robe I was about to put on was dirty with someone else's foundation all over the sleeves and neckline. I took a different robe and alerted the staff. Also, unfortunately, my massage was one of the worst I have ever received. Upon checkout, the staff spent about 10 minutes trying to close out my check. When I appeared antsy, one of them asked if I had somewhere to be... which I thought was a strange question to ask someone who had been waiting 10 minutes for the staff to figure their own system out. -upon checkout at the hotel, there was no staff around at any of the three desks. I ended up going to a random desk in the lobby to get checked out, which caught the gal sitting there off guard. -random suggestion: please offer better hair dryers. I would expect to see a cheap small con-air at a 2-star hotel, not a 4-star hotel. read more

In these covid times of being short staffed there are ways for the existing staff to at least be accommodative. This is one of the nicest resorts I've stayed in. Beautiful setting in the hills around Carmel By the Sea. The rooms have a fireplace with wood provided. Most of the accommodations overlook the excellent golf course. The service and amenities are top notch. There is a concierge service to help you get the most out of your stay. For golfers the course is beautiful and a challenge for players at any level. There are two distinct nines, with the back nine providing a test of your nerve and accuracy. For the nongolfer, there is walking, lots of deer and turkeys to observe, spa and relaxation opportunities galore. This is one of my favorite places in the Carmel and Monterey area. read more

While I wouldn't necessarily recommend staying here, I would definitely encourage you to take in the sites of the property and enjoy a meal at Valley Kitchen. Loved seeing the deer and Turkeys roam the property. Based on how much we spent each night, I expected much better and more personal service. Maybe a turndown service, or nightly treats? Maybe even hotel staff saying hi to you and making you feel super welcome? There was just no instance of "exceptional" service, which we truly expected with the amount we paid to stay here...We sat at the pool for the day and it was extremely hard to get a drink or any attention from the wait staff there. Not ideal. The room we stayed in was nice, but there were smashed bugs on the wall and we could hear every movement from the people staying above us. Not fun to have kids running around up there early in the morning and late at night. Overall, beautiful property but don't recommend staying here as the price isn't balanced with what you get in return. read more

If the property was flat and not on a hill it would be easier to explore the property. My fat ass doesn't like to walk hills. Carrying my plump two year old up the huff and puff trail to view the baby apalca was the most exercise I've done in my entire life. They need to install an escalator. read more

This is a great spot to take your family or perfect for couples to go for a quick getaway trip. I really enjoyed my time here. My kids enjoyed all the amenities this place offered, the multiple swings, the garden, visiting the goats, s'mores hours and the kiddy pool. My only gripe was the hot tub was closed. nevertheless, this place exceeded my expectations.
