No place to park so we drove through. Great amount of choices on the menu. We had chorizo and egg. Chorizo and potato and bean and cheese tacos. The tortillas were soft and fluffy. Northwest San Antonio isn't exactly a mecca for "autentica comida Mexicana*," so I was surprised, delighted, and a bit skeptical when a Taqueria Jalisco opened less than a mile from my front door. The demographic in my side of town is so overwhelmingly white that we have evolved into a semi-transparent subspecies; look closely and you can see through my lily-white skin and marvel at the workings of my internal organs. Many Mexicans have referred to me affectionately as an "inverted coconut**," as my appreciation for spicy, greasy, real-deal Mexican food (of the variety common in Jalisco) belies my demure Little Lord Fauntleroy/American Psycho good looks. But enough tomfoolery; I can assure you, my friends, that Taqueria Jalisco 3 is a rare beacon of "luz" in a part of town where Taco Bell is often considered the pinnacle of Mexican food. Like every Taqueria Jalisco in San Antonio -- the vast majority of them housed in repurposed Whataburger A-frames from the 1970s -- this location offers a veritable smorgasbord of delights, including enchiladas, carne guisada, menudo, and even whole fried tilapia. Alas, my experience has thus far been limited to breakfast tacos, as they are less difficult to eat whilst driving to work. The breakfast tacos I've wolfed down have ranked among the best in town. The large, pillowy, diaphanous flour tortillas are undoubtedly "hecho a mano," as are the resilient, pliable corn tortillas made lovingly with masa harina. A traditional bean-and-cheese taco hit all the right notes (the unctuousness of lard, a crown of sharp, freshly grated cheddar), while a standard bacon-and-egg taco featured plenty of crisp bacon and soft scrambled eggs. The pièce de résistance (pardon..."plato principal de la comida"), however, came in the form of a burrito-sized corn taco stuffed to the hilt with tender, juicy, full-flavored all-meat barbacoa. The corn tortilla held its own against the juices, a sprinkle of raw onion and cilantro added freshness, and a spritz of lime cut through the fat. This behemoth taco -- a steal at $3.99 -- would satiate a 700-pound gorilla. I, however, ordered a second. This tiny little place is usually swamped with customers (drive-thru and dine-in alike) regardless of the time of day, yet the crew of three somehow manages to juggle the phone, the kitchen, and all transactions with graceful aplomb. The ladies here are friendly, ingratiating, and seem to genuinely enjoy their work. I tip them generously and suggest you do the same! Writing this review has made me hungry and upset that I'm stuck at work with nothing more than a bag of Chex Mix. Folks, if you live anywhere near Helotes and crave a taste of the Southside, then look no further than the Taqueria Jalisco at the corner of Guilbeau and Tezel. I must return soon and venture beyond the breakfast tacos. Methinks menudo is in order, as I am an inverted coconut of the highest order! *I am indeed fluent in Spanish...and several other languages. Doesn't blow you away but a solid choice with tons of delicious looking options and conveniently located at the corner of Tezel & Guilbeau on the NW side of town. It's a cute little spot with in store dining and a drive-thru. Their menu is pretty big with a few surprises and many classics than you can't resist, like my smothered burrito the "Jalisco Burrito", served with rice and beans. THE GOOD: My Burrito - Look at that thing, huge! But it was also very tasty. The red sauce was on point and offered the perfect pop of delicious Mexican flavors to every bite. I added a little of each of their houses salsas on top for extra punch, which is what I love! Take a look at the photo showing what's inside! The fresh avocado slices, layered on top of the mixture of cheeses, meats and more...YUM! The beef was good, not great. Might go with shrimp next time. THE BAD: The Milanesa my wife tried, which I had a few bites of, was way too thin and dry for me. This super thin style only works on a Torta since the toppings add the necessary moisture. At $10, this was not the best. This is my second time and was better than the first. Kids didn't like what they tried the last time but didn't eat this time. I have been here a few times and went again today. I had 3 tacos, as did my wife. I usually get the al pastor or asada tacos, but I chose 3 I hadn't had yet. The tortillas - They aren't the best I've ever had, but they are good ones. bacon and egg - I enjoyed it. It's scrambled bacon and eggs and not eggs with a strip across. barbacoa - My wife and I each had one and when we opened the tortilla was soaked. We just dabbed it off and they were great. It was juice and not grease, which was nice since so many times that is not the case for barbacoa. chorizo and egg - Was decent. Good flavor for it. chorizo and potato - My wife had a couple of these. She liked them, but said the potato pieces were a bit large for her personal preference. Overall it's a decent place to have a quick bite on the go. I can't speak to the dining room as I have only done the drive through. read more

This little Mexican restaurant was impressive and exceeded any expectations I had of it. Went in during a weekday for breakfast and it was pretty busy inside and their drive thru. I ordered coffee and some tacos. The service was pretty fast and friendly and the food was just full of flavor!! One thing I personally liked from here is the fact that the coffee is served with French vanilla creamer. I love flavored creamer and you don't see this offered much at restaurants so the fact that this was an option...just won me over. Now to the important part....TACOS! The tacos are stuffed with a very generous portion and taste even better with their delicious homemade tortillas. I def recommend the bacon, potatoes and egg, carne guisada and papa ranchera. Once you look past the tiny parking lot and long lines. You're greeted with friendly workers, keep track of your ticket to hand to the person at the window. Their large lemonades best in town! My fav place next to the house. The Barbacoa is served everyday and the corn tortilla are the best. Look like flour in the pics but they are done perfect and not too much lard that would make them too dense. The pork leg tacos are a hidden jem. Chopped and in a tase sauce that's very tasty and not a spicy. The carne asada and al pastor are much better than the fajita FYI. The reason I am giving all five stars is that this place is complete. Both tortillas are done re-evaluate welll. I mentioned the corn earlier but the flour is not too doughy and thick. The avacado salsa is my favorite by far. The breakfast tacos are plump and cheap. The bfast plates are great as well. Delicious! I've seen this place a few times while in the neighborhood and decided to finally grab something. I went early for the breakfast taco special. 3 tacos for around $3.50. I got the potato and egg and smothered it in salsa. This place seems to always have a line but a worker comes out to get orders if the line begins to back up. The tortillas are soft and warm it compliments the taco filling so well. I'll be coming back here to try other breakfast tacos very soon! read more

The place is small, so if you are in a pinch, use the drive thru. I tried three tacos and all of it cost less than ten bucks. Of the tacos I tried, the breakfast one was the most flavorful. The barbacoa wasn't bad, but a little greasy and the pastor was just above average. I am giving them four stars for the amount of food and the overall flavor being above average. This is my grandparents local taqueria. I picked up from here this past Friday for a lent lunch. We got chili rellenos with cheese and cheese enchiladas. The service was very friendly and quick. When paying I had to grab a big to-go cup of jimaca, it looked so good with its bright color. And it was absolutely delicious!! I loved the chili relleno- so tasty. The cheese enchiladas weren't my favorite but were ok. Rice and refried beans were good but just needed a dash of salt. read more

I'm giving an extra star for the unwavering consistency of quality and service. Tv seems to be on ksat 12 most mornings. The structure that became this taqueria has been through many alterations since about 1985 when it was a Fajita Junction, insurance agency and burger joint (added patio), followed by a taqueria (enclosed patio), and changed names a few times. I've never experienced an issue that the staff wouldn't immediately address. I feel that this indicates a trust in the employees to make decisions and take actions. Sodas are served in cans with an accompanying cup of ice, tea is fresh when I've tried it. Friendly staff tops off coffee fast, it never loses temperature. I really like the red salsa, and recommend the chorizo and egg. Tacos with white cheese are a nice upgrade. read more

Firstly, this should be labeled as a concern. Long story short my order was wrong in the drive through. After getting yelled at about what was given vs what I ordered, i finally got back up to the window to get my correct order. I've never seen this before, but I was told to hand my food back. My concern is that i hope and pray that it was not given to someone else or reused. I've never seen a restaurant do this. This is the go-to spot for quick, delicious mexican. The food comes out fresh and hot! My favorite orders are the chalupas, and fajita plates. Their carne asada is a bit tough for my liking, but their carne al pastor plate is DELICIOUS. The portions are huge so you can easily split an order into two meals or servings. They are a mainly drive through restaurant, although I believe they also have dine in seatings, just incredibly limited. But I take advantage of their drive-thru window, since it's COVID anyways!! Weekend breakfast has a line into the Walmart parking lot - so order ahead. They don't have curbside pickup, so park and go inside to pickup your order. GREAT little place! This is my go to lunch place when I'm on this side of town. True, seating is limited, however quick turnover on tables. They bring you a small carafe of fresh salsa, with a little bowl of queso. Both are on the spicy side, but not too spicy. Their lengua tacos are delicious, and all their tacos are on the large side since tortillas are handmade. Even though there is only a total of 3 people working in there (counting the cook), they are always friendly, and pace is efficient yet relaxed. I had the 3 crunchy beef taco plate and one al pastor taco, as well as one beef fajita taco. The crunchy tacos consisted of box shells, and were not fried tortillas like they should be. The crunchy tacos arrived in a soup of sorts that made the shells soggy and terrible tasting. The al pastor taco tasted like the meat was old and probably had bad trimmings. The beef fajita was really more like a skirt steak and not fajita. My wife had the carne asada which came with cactus beneath it, rice and beans on the side. The nopales were also soggy and old tasting. She does say the tortillas were ok though. Lastly, no chips and salsa were served.
