For our mains we had the Prime Rib (impressive!) and the Sweet Corn Raviolini (great flavor) along with the Mushroom Marsala (very good) as a side dish. The Lemon Sorbetto (with the limoncello ) for dessert provided a nice finish to the meal. Very friendly staff and our server Craig was terrific. Great, lively atmosphere. My 2 nd time dining here & all I could think about was the 17 layer chocolate cake We started with fresh bread and a hearty wedgini salad but no Gorgonzola for me ...along with mozzarella sticks with caviar For our 2nd course the Chef sent us out a delicious plate of ravioli filled with smoked ricotta with a creamy corn sauce. For the entree we had the Ribeye with Rustic potatoes, but again all I could think about was the 17 layer chocolate cake & when it finally hit the table for my mouth watered from anticipation . Great oysters! Stopped in for some beer and oysters. Took advantage of happy hour and enjoyed them for only 2 dollars each. We had 3 dozen! They were so fresh and delicious. The service was on point as we were greeted by some friendly people and served with class and finesse. This is a very nice looking place. It's been a while since I've been back to the south street seaport and everything is so different. It used to be a public place where people could go and enjoy the views and have some fun eating and drinking but now it's become a more exclusive place with restaurants and music venues, cool but not the same. We went to pier 15 the Watermark to have a late lunch and was dying to have oysters well that didn't happen and a story for another time. Like I always say things happen for a reason, we continue our walk towards pier 17 a sign with oysters yes yes yes lol. They were it serving outside due to the air quality and heat . We were skeptical because it looked like a high end restaurant but they were very welcoming. I came here with two friends to celebrate our friend's 28th birthday, and we had an amazing experience from start to finish. One thing worth mentioning is that parking was easier than expected. We were able to find free street parking nearby, although I would recommend arriving about an hour early if you want a good chance of finding a spot. The birthday experience started the moment we walked in. When I checked in at the front desk, the hostess asked, "Who's Jhelani?" and then immediately wished him a happy birthday. It was a small gesture, but it made the celebration feel special right from the beginning. I ordered the 8 oz center cut filet mignon with a side of broccolini. The filet was cooked perfectly, tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The broccolini was surprisingly one of my favorite parts of the meal. It had none of the bitterness that broccoli can sometimes have and was seasoned really well. The atmosphere was classy and upscale without feeling stuffy. We were seated on a floor that was relatively quiet, which gave us a great view outside overlooking the boats and made the experience feel even more special. What really stood out was the service. The staff was attentive throughout the entire meal and always made sure our water glasses were filled. They were knowledgeable about the menu, offered great recommendations, and made us feel well taken care of from beginning to end. A detail I really appreciated was when our steaks arrived. The staff encouraged us to cut into the center of our steaks right away to make sure they were cooked exactly as ordered. It showed that they genuinely cared about getting everything right and wanted us to have the best possible experience. For my friend's birthday, they also went the extra mile by printing his name and birthday message directly on the menu, which was such a thoughtful touch. They finished the evening by bringing out a complimentary dessert with a birthday candle. Overall, the food, atmosphere, and service were all top notch. My experience at the restaurant was disappointing. The prime rib was served with a very heavy sauce that overwhelmed the flavor of the meat. A well-prepared prime rib should allow the quality of the meat to stand out, but this dish did not meet that expectation. The service also detracted from the experience. The hostess repeatedly attempted to remove the chair I was using to hold my purse, despite many empty tables and chairs available. This felt unnecessary and made the dining experience uncomfortable. My most recent visit to Carne Mare was for the Winter 2026 Restaurant Week menu, and it absolutely delivered. I started with the wagyu beef tartare--outstanding and exactly what you want from this classic: rich, impeccably seasoned, and beautifully balanced. For the main course, I chose the King Salmon Salsa Calabresi. The ingredients were clearly top-tier, and the sauce had just the right amount of acidity to complement the salmon without overpowering it. The skin was crisped to perfection. Dessert was the mascarpone cheesecake, and honestly, it was flawless--light, creamy, and the perfect way to end the meal. I also have to compliment the bartender. She made one of the finest Negronis I've ever had, and I've had more than my fair share. Perfectly balanced and expertly executed. When I visit Carne Mare, I usually sit at the bar, which I highly recommend. The leather barstools are genuinely comfortable (with proper backrests--an underrated detail), and the bar itself is a stunning mix of warm wood and hammered copper. It's a beautiful space and a great way to experience the restaurant. Between the food, the cocktails, and the atmosphere, Carne Mare continues to be one of my favorite spots in the city--sophisticated, welcoming, and consistently excellent. read more

Came back to Carne Mare for my birthday this year and was not disappointed. The weather was nice to view the seaport clearly but not to eat outside. As usual the service was impeccable as Anthony and his team really looked out for me. The chef had a calamari special so I ordered that to start. New on the menu from the last time I was here is the Lasagna. It's a generous size but not an overly thick pasta and so delicious. I ordered the King Carne prime rib (medium rare) as my main and it was AMAZING . I was so full I couldn't order dessert but since it was my birthday they brung me a complimentary gelato, it hit just right. Side note the A-mock-xicillin is a great drink (non-alcoholic). Disaster for those with allergies; the incompetence and contradictory messaging by waitstaff, managers, and chef sent me to the hospital via an ambulance. What was supposed to be a nice meal with my parents and new fiancé ended up costing me $1,200 and a major health scare. When we arrived, I told the waiter that I had a tree nut allergy and he took note. We ordered the burrata--no indication on menu that there were tree nuts, and waiter said nothing when we ordered it and he knew I had a tree nut allergy. It came; my mom took a bite and told me there were nuts. I flagged down the waiter and asked him directly if there were nuts. He denied this, clearly stating no nuts. I asked again, stating that my mom had taken a bite and said there were nuts; waiter said that it was the sun-dried tomato. I said what was the crunch? He said that there was a nut-free pesto. I pressed him--are you sure there aren't any nuts in the pesto? He assured me that "all of our pestos are nut-free." (Really?) Since I'd asked multiple times, and had been assured multiple times that there were no nuts, I ate a bite. There were clearly nuts. I started having an allergic reaction. The manager then came to the table to apologize--not because there were nuts but because there could have been "cross-contamination." I told the manager to please ask if nuts of any kind were used as an ingredient in the dish. He didn't know, so he went to check. The person whom he checked with (chef? unclear) apparently informed him that he/she uses almonds in the dish. I sent the manager away. The waiter then came over to apologize, and confirmed there were indeed nuts in the preparation and that he didn't know as the dish was new to the menu. I left shortly thereafter to take my epi pen, which didn't stop the reaction so I called 911 and went to the hospital in an ambulance. This was a nightmare scenario for anyone with allergies. A total failure of front-of-house staff. If you don't know, or are being pressed by a patron, do the right thing and double check immediately with the back of the house. I am appalled. read more

My whole party just decided to have oysters although we usually are not big on them, and we have been thinking of them ever since! The mozzarella sticks with caviar arrived cold, the red snapper crudo was slimy and far too fishy for my taste, and the soft scramble crostino just didn't work--the texture of the eggs with the prosciutto was a miss. After a hot day of roaming FiDi we wanted to eat by the water. Cool off, enjoy the breeze and have some good eats. We had a reservation at Carne Mare so off we went. We ordered the Granita and Alpino for drinks. The drinks took a very long time to come. It came way after we were finished with our appetizer. The granita was a cup with chunks of ice, grapefruit, and other flavors. They bring a bottle of Prosecco to finish making the drink table side. The server had to carry other drinks and the bottle. She struggled to balance the bottle with everything. I was worried something would drop. The bottle didn't have enough Prosecco. They should just finish making the drink at the bar. The drink was delicious though! Fruity and refreshing. The Alpino was skippable. For our appetizer we had the spicy crab lettuce cups. Small portion for the price, but tasty. Careful when eating this, a misplaced bite can cause all your sauce to leak out. We also had some complimentary bread. The bread was baked well! Hot and toasty, the cheese and salt flakes were amazing. Service was a bit inconsistent here. When the bread was served, some tables were given butter some were not. We had to ask for butter twice and it took them about 20 minutes to give it. As for our mains we had the Mezzi Rigatoni and Milanese Cowboy Veal Chop. The rigatoni was not good. Lukewarm and loaded with rosemary that was overpowering. The rosemary was not chopped at all. Whole leaves of rosemary was in the dish. Each bite had dry and hard to chew leaves. The veal chop was just straight up bad. It was a huge dry piece of meat. It felt unseasoned and extra fatty. I had to cut off pieces of fat before eating my chop. $75 for this absolute rubbish topped with a sprig of rosemary. The sides were okay. We had the potatoes rustica and creamed spinach. The potatoes were fried to perfection. Well seasoned, probably the best thing we ate besides the bread. The creamed spinach felt like a wet slop. I was with my pregnant wife and our daughter, and my wife had been excited all week to try the lobster pasta and the mozzarella with caviar. We arrived at 6:00 p.m. to find the restaurant more than half empty, both inside and on the patio. We were told, rather abruptly, that nothing was available until 8:00 p.m. I politely asked whether any of the empty tables on the dining room floor, at the bar, or outside were reserved, and was told they were not--but that the restaurant simply wasn't accepting walk-ins until 8:00. When I asked if there was any flexibility, we were quickly dismissed. As people who genuinely enjoy dining out and have been fortunate to eat at everything from Michelin-starred restaurants to small neighborhood gems around the world, we've never felt so unwelcome. It wasn't the lack of availability that was disappointing--it was the dismissive attitude and the feeling that we weren't wanted there. Ironically, we walked by about an hour later after enjoying a wonderful dinner elsewhere, and the restaurant still appeared just as empty. A great restaurant is about more than creating an exclusive image. Exceptional hospitality should make every guest feel welcome, whether they're regulars, first-time visitors, or simply hoping to enjoy a memorable meal. The bathroom is on the 2nd floor too. They have outdoor seating too. There's a beautiful stair case. When we went there to check in, the hostess said they had seating outside. So we dined outside. I guess they were full inside. It was raining this day, so the chairs outside was wet. But my jeans were wet from sitting on the chair even tho a waiter wiped it down. Bummer. Loooong wait for anything we ask for. Goodness the service was slow. The prime rib comes out 16 oz. of perfectly cooked medium rare, breads are truly delicious and so nostalgic worthy of what the very best of the American Cuisine used to be like, each appetizer is seemingly made with Michelin Stars Chefs and the main dishes are served without any distractions. The meal started with complimentary bread, which was so flavorful and light and fluffy! We started with the $16 mozzarella with caviar appetizer - tasty but overrated. It tasted like both individual ingredients put together, and not like something new or unique. For entrees, we had the ribeye and the filet mignon with sides of creamed spinach and rustic potatoes. Everything was good except the filet which was tougher than I'm used to and kind of dry. The steaks came with a couple of different sauces, which saved the filet, but for the prices they charge, it shouldn't need it. That said, the salsa verde is chef's kiss! They even printed out a birthday message on personalized menus for me and my friend. Classy! I have never seen that before. For drinks, I got the granita cocktail given the rave reviews but didn't love it. While it was somewhat refreshing, I didn't love the massive chunks of ice which left very little drink. We sat outdoors and loved the ambiance. Beautiful views of it doors and the indoor dining area was nice as well (request a table by the window on the second floor). First, the steak that came with the steak and eggs had way too much salt thrown on it, and it definitely wasn't medium rare as ordered. Even calling it medium would've been a stretch. It was still good, but properly cooked steak at a chophouse seems like the bare minimum, even at lunch time. You can also sit outside if the weather permits. I've enjoyed both the lunch menu and dinner. One of my favorite items is the gorgonzola crusted steak!
