A group of us had lunch here yesterday. It was not crowded. Plenty of empty seats. Waitress was attentive and polite. The food was average. The avocado appetizer was sub par. Bland. It needed some type of spices added. My order, turkey club was average. Bacon was not crispy. Turkey tasted fresh. Lettuce though was wilted and definitely not fresh. In fact we all commented on the lettuce in all are meals. Wilted and stale. My French fries were not hot. Warm at best. Now they charge for using a credit or debit card. Like most other retailers and restaurants, they want to pass the card fees onto the customers. Yet, their menu prices are high for what you receive. Lunch for one is well over $20! Not a good first time experience. Food was bland. Chicken wings were ok... Kobe burger was the biggest disappointment -asked for medium got well done, Egg was dry, Mac and cheese bun had absolutely no taste. Not to mention the plate ends up looking like a murder scene since you have to eat it with a fork and knife. This is exactly why we're not supposed to write reviews of a place during a Yelp Elite event. It was such a great event, the service and food were delicious, I got to speak with the owner who was so nice. They had this steak they were serving in small pieces as part of the many samples during the event, and it was so perfect done and perfectly seasoned that I was eager to come back. Finally I decided to come back and splurge on a steak here. $40, so it's already higher than some stiff competition in the area, but I figured if it's anything like what they served at the event, it's worth the splurge. Couldn't have been more wrong or more disappointed. Ordered the steak medium rare. This is the top steak on their menu. Check out the picture to see what I got. So pathetic and disappointing, I ended up rejecting the meal entirely. Don't get me wrong, that salad looked delicious, but I didn't show up for a salad, and at that price I was honestly offended by the steak they brought me. The one manager tried to encourage me to stay for something else, but never again, I went elsewhere for a much better deal both in price and in quality. Fun musical decor, but gosh that was just so obnoxious, not only the fact that it was clearly not medium rare but rather well done, but such an obviously pathetic cut of meat for any price never mind the best steak on their menu. New Year's Day so it was quite busy, we were told it was a 15 minute wait which was about accurate. After sitting down, we got our water immediately, but it was never filled again. We were seated one booth away from the front door, and with the doors constantly opening and closing it was freezing inside. After placing our orders, we waited A FULL HOUR to get our food. I couldn't feel my toes because it was so cold. Also, multiple tables around us that were seated after us received their food before us. One of which was a large party of 10 who got their food within 15 minutes of sitting down. Our server, Amaya, gave no explanation as to why our food was so late, just a quick meaningless "sorry." Our food came out soggy and inconsistent temperatures, which makes me think it was left on the heat lamp for a long time and forgotten about. There was no offer to remedy our long wait. Carnegie Diner is a good new addition to Secaucus' chain restaurant dining experiences. In true diner fashion there's something for everyone on the menu. The decor is bright and inviting. They have both indoor and outdoor seating as well. I came for brunch. They have an unlimited mimosa option which you don't see often anymore. My friend and I shared some mozzarella sticks which were pretty good. I had an omelette with egg whites, chicken and vegetables. It came with salad and shredded hash browns which are my favorite from a diner. Over all the portions were decent and the food was tasty. The food was not amazing by no means but I don't expect amazing food at a diner. My biggest gripes were that my coffee was watery and the staff weren't that friendly. read more

So happy Carnegie came to Secaucus! Portions are huge and worth the price! Unique extensive menu, but also includes Carnegie's classics like pastrami and corned beef. I've tried their Wagyu pastrami in the past, but admit I prefer pastrami at a different restaurant. Today we tried their lobster roll which was filled with tender lobster on a brioche bun and swapped out the fries for the beer battered onion rings per the waitress suggestion. Great choice as it was loaded! Also tried their corned beef sandwich this round and enjoyed better than pastrami which is accompanied by a fresh spring mix salad, a pickle, sauerkraut and coleslaw on the side. Lastly we ordered the Farmer's Bleu Salad with chicken. Salad was to die for as it was baby spinach, croutons, raw hazelnuts, beets, dried figs and bleu cheese with your choice of protein. Gobbled most down with coffee, unsweetened iced tea, a bud light in a frosty mug and a dessert drink made with coffee, frangelico, baileys, whipped cream and cinnamon that again our waitress concocted! What a wonderful dinner I had tonight at the Carnegie Diner. From the warm greeting to the excellent service to the tasty fresh food, it could not have been better. The pleasant diner atmosphere is obvious with a touch of musical instrument wallpaper bearing tribute to Carnegie Hall for which it is named. I don't think there was a single time I had to ask for more of something after ordering my food because of how attentive they are. The music is a tad bit loud so going with the big party size I had made it difficult to have conversations across the table. I'm sure the smaller booths are probably okay, but if you're going with 5+ people be aware of having to project your voice a lil more, even to the waiter. I ordered 2 diner staples -- A burger and a milkshake! More specifically, I ordered the wagyu kobe burger with french fries and a brownie milkshake. The burger was pretty good and flavorful but to be honest i'm not sure that, for the price it costs, id order that over a regular cheese burger. On the other hand, the milkshake was absolutely incredible! 10/10 I would highly recommend trying out their assortment of milkshakes because that was easily the highlight of the entire meal. Another 5 minutes for our server to greet us. Another 25+ minutes for our appetizers. Another hour and a half for our food. I didn't even take picture of our entree because we waited so long that I was starving and forgot. There is no exaggeration in these wait times because we timed it. Once we walking in and saw the crowd of people at the door walking to get in we knew we would play the waiting game. Service was slow as expected and honestly the food wasn't that great either. My eggs weren't cooked right and I asked for over hard. I sent it back and never got new ones. Then our server literally left the entire restaurant. We were looking for him for a while until we finally asked another server to find him and she told us he left since he had another job to get to. That is ridiculous that we weren't informed before his disappearance. On top of all of that the milkshake was too watery and I didn't like the mozzarella sticks. Staff is very overworked especially the managers. This place has a lot of potential! Too many people for both walk ins and reservations are accepted. Our server, although new, was friendly, attentive and very accommodating. Food-wise though, personally, I was not satisfied. Not to mention that it took forever to arrive at our table.
