Title: Horrific service and completely selfish management If I could give Drift zero stars, I would. We had an 8:30 PM reservation on June 20th and weren't seated until after 10:00 PM. We didn't get our food until 11:30 PM (which arrived cold), and waited 45 minutes just for drinks. The waitress was completely chaotic and unorganized. To make matters worse, after we had to track down the manager just to pay our bill, the waitress confronted us at the table, demanding to know why we didn't leave a tip. When we told her it was because of the service, she made a face at us right in front of the manager. When I asked the manager for the owner's contact info, he whined that it "wasn't going to be good for him" because he'd only worked there a month. For example, there was way too much dip and not enough bread to actually enjoy it properly. The service was disappointing. We returned to Drift the other day to enjoy the food and have a classy meal. However, there were certain aspects that did not live up to our previous experience. The service was still professional and friendly, but the food left something to be desired. Though it was a Thursday evening, the weather was not great, so it was not overly surprising that the restaurant was not very crowded. Because of that fact, the gracious hostess offered us our choice of a few different tables, from a larger booth to a two-top near the window. We opted for the booth that would give us a chance to look out into the restaurant AND to still see the Manhattan skyline. We decided to order some drinks, and I opted for an Espresso Martini, which was not typically something I would have gotten before dessert, but I wanted the extra caffeine! Plus, their version included a caramel cold foam, which enticingly made it extra creamy and delicious. In fact, it was definitely one of the best espresso martinis I had ever had. We were deciding to skip any starters, so we asked for some bread while we waited for our entrees. The plate of focaccia was decent and hit the spot, but we were charged $2 for it, which was not a big deal but also not appreciated. For my entree, I went with the Lobster Bouillabaisse. The broth was flavorful, but there was not much of it. In fact, the dish came with three sweet rolls to dip into the soup, but I could have lived with less given the limited amount of liquid in the bowl. The included blue prawns were good, but the Hokkaido scallops and lobster were chewy. There was also supposed to jumbo lump crab, which seemed to have been replaced by gritty clams. There were also leeks and Yukon potatoes that were sliced in small cylinders and looked fairly similar to each other. The potatoes were bland, cold, and under-cooked. Overall, it was not very impressive for $48. My companion's Prime Filet Mignon was of an unknown size on the menu, but arrived looking smaller than the typical 8-ounces. It was also over-cooked. He did like his mashed potatoes, though. For dessert, we decided to get the Apple and Pear Bread Pudding again, since that had been excellent last time and would hopefully be a redeeming feature of the meal, which it was. The sweet, caramelized brioche had been infused with cubes of fruit, baked, and drizzled with a sea salt caramel. We replaced the designated companion creme fraiche gelato with a scoop of passion fruit sorbet, which was less of an appropriate pairing, but more of an appealing variety to us. While Drift truly offered a stunning space with incredible service, they really could improve their culinary preparations. read more

We were able to sit outside and take in the city lights and sounds while enjoying our delicious dinner! The inside of the restaurant was also very beautiful and breathtaking, I would highly recommend for any dinner parties or celebrations dinners! The food and drinks were very flavorful and fresh with vibrant colors and hearty portions! We also tried an alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink. After a 6 mile walk this was the perfect spot to grab brunch. The omelet was incredible . I didn't realize it came with a salad. The salad was perfect. The dressing was light and refreshing . What is not pictured (because we ate it too fast) is the Brussels sprouts which makes the list of top 5 best Brussels I've ever had. Also the chicken apple sausage which is made in house. It has a little unexpected kick to it that I like...not spicy but seasoned veryyyy well! The deserts ...you can't go wrong. I would say the bread pudding is a little on the dry side which I wasn't expecting . I usually like a softer center but the flavor is delicious and the caramel it comes with is nice . I recommend cutting it open and pouring the caramel inside as opposed to on top. We had a new waitress. We were her first table and minus a mishap with bill, she was very pleasant. We ended up sitting at the revolving booths, which was a unique experience as we caught glances of the entire restaurant and the waterfront, which kept our dining experience exciting. However, we kept count and 3+ passerby's almost tripped by us because of the arrangement - something needs to be done about this. Here's what we ordered: - Spicy Vodka Rigatoni (4/5) - well portioned, excellent cook on the pasta, luscious sauce and a generous drizzle of parm. Almost perfect, just not "spicy". - Paccheri Pasta (5/5) - perfection! The milk braised pork was tender, the cook on the pasta exquisitely al dente, the sauce was creamy, the balsamic drizzle complemented the dish so very well, and the garnish of the shallot crunch was a master stroke. Again, well portioned. - Apple Bread Pudding (4.5/5) - every mouthful was very cozy and comfortable. Almost a 5/5, but the bread pudding could've been served warmer. Others on the table ordered, which I tasted: - Margherita Flatbread (3/5) - could have been better. Maybe the other flatbread options had more to give. This was not the best representation. Meh. - Arancini (3/5) - not bad, but not very crispy on the outside and not much depth to it. The real problem, they advertised brunch being available so we took mine and my wife's family there when they liked the brunch menu for a 1 pm reservation. When we sat down our server plainly stated they were only serving the dinner menu... at 1 pm. It is way over priced for the quality of food to begin with so this seemed like a money grab. But it took more that 1.5hours for our entrees to come out. The roasted chicken were moist and paired nicely with polenta and wild mushroom s. Rigatoni in spicy vodka sauce was little under seasoned and needed more grated cheese which wasn't offered. After I complained about a long wait for our entrée, the waiter and the manager offered drinks on the house which was a nice gesture. I am not usually price sensitive, I know it's tough to operate a restaurant in these times, but the prices were truly insane. $40+ dollars for a mediocre overcooked piece of skirt steak and 3 little polenta fries. I recently visited Drift in Weehawken, a newly opened neighborhood spot, with my date for a casual yet indulgent night out. We opted for a mix of appetizers, cocktails, and an entrée, and while there were some standout dishes, a few fell short. First off, the atmosphere is striking. From the outside, the space appears unassuming, but once inside, it opens up into a moody, dark, and stylish dining area. There are private rooms available for celebrations, which were already booked during our visit. Though we had an 8 PM reservation, we decided to sit at the bar instead, where the staff was kind and attentive. Cocktails- My date, a bit of an old-fashioned connoisseur, was pleasantly surprised by how well-crafted his drink was. I had a lychee martini, which was absolutely delicious--smooth, balanced, and refreshing. The perfect girlie drink. Appetizers Pork Belly Baos ($24) - These were fantastic! Easily one of the best appetizers of the night. Charred Spanish Octopus ($27) - Another hit! The octopus was cooked perfectly, with butter beans and chorizo jam adding great texture and flavor. The beans were served warm, which was a nice touch. Unfortunately, we didn't snap a photo, but it was a memorable dish and a must have for sure. Jumbo Lump Crab "Louie" ($34) - This dish came highly recommended by the bartender, who amusingly admitted she doesn't even eat seafood but insisted customers rave about it. Sadly, we were not among them. After one bite each, we pushed that plate to the side. The flavors didn't mesh well, leaving us wondering why it's on the menu? Entrée Miso Glazed Black Bass ($46) - A winner. The bass was beautifully cooked, flaky, and flavorful, with the miso glaze adding the right amount of sweetness and crisp to the skin. The baby bok choy rounded out the dish nicely. Definitely worth ordering. Side White Stone Polenta ($13) - A major disappointment. It's the consistency of wet cement and lacked of flavor, despite the presence of butter and herbs. It left us wishing we had chosen something else. Final Thoughts Drift has a lot of potential, with some truly excellent dishes and a great atmosphere. While a couple of items missed the mark, I'd definitely return to explore more of their menu in the summer. The cocktails, ambiance, and standout plates (the baos, octopus, and black bass) make it worth a visit. Would I come back? Yes--but I'll be skipping the polenta and the crab next time. read more

The cocktails were so great and you could tell they used all high quality ingredients. For food, we ordered the tuna tartare and shrimp bao buns to start - incredible. The tuna was so fresh and the sauce was perfect. The shrimp bao were so crispy and tasted great. For main course, we ordered the filet mignon and white polenta and two different sushi rolls. Although the steak was a bit overcooked for medium rare, the taste was still there and the staff immediately rectified the issue. The polenta was probably the best thing I've ever eaten, very simple but so comforting. The sushi was also very fresh and tasty. I'd get that again for sure Happy ending roll was the first time I've had a shrimp tempura roll without my stomach feeling weighed down after. Chopped salad was decently balanced, I wish there was some goat cheese or something salty in there. We got the special which was I believe was a porterhouse with bone marrow torched on top, it was made well but the ingredients were not flavorful.. My first dinner with Drift was a positive experience. The atmosphere is beautiful with modern decor and spacious seating. You definitely get a cozy feel upon arriving. Lots of booth and intimate seating for the perfect night out. Drift has a lot of menu options and specials. My guest and I shared the grilled octopus appetizer. Great flavor and tender. I would have loved an additional serving on the plate since it was a shareable bite. When dining, we decided to share the miso glaze Black Sea bass and crab gnocchi. We were so pleased with both choices. Both entrees were delicious and packed with flavor. The gnocchi were small and soft like pillows (not too heavy). The lemon sauce with crab really made it a stand out dish. We ended our meal with the bread pudding and an after midnight espresso martini. This had a vanilla raspberry flavor. It was like eating a Ghirardelli chocolate. Although more on the high end price range, the service and quality of food made my visit quite enjoyable. I really like Drift! I think the place is absolutely beautiful. I do feel the food, however can use some improvement. My last couple times there have been subpar. I ordered a beet salad last time I was there and although it was very good, it was too small. The salad was $22 and there was nothing on the plate. My husband's side salad had more substance. Maybe combine the two to make a more fruitful offering. My husband had a hamburger and fries. We went home and were both starving. I had to make a pasta meal. I could have eaten more at Drift, but the dishes should offer more substance. The place could be unbelievable with a little more robust offerings. Two dinners at Drift recently; we liked the convenience to where we were staying and the space and food enough to return just a couple days after our first visit. Roomy sophisticated space, good amount of spread out seating, both inside and out. attractive bars both in and out as well. They were switching from winter to spring menu, so while they were out of the pork belly bao, we got to try the, not on the menu yet, tempura shrimp boa, and really liked it. Three buns, so perfect for a party of three to share. Great local draft beer selection. Caesar was great, fresh, topped with one "boquerones" (ie anchovy), would certainly ask for more next time. I was attracted to the SRF prime outside skirt steak as we're regular SRF (Snake River Farms) customers and love their steaks. Disappointingly, it was very chewy, much more like an inside skirt. Side of potato jinga (small pile of neatly stacked steak fries), was nicely crunchy and tasty. Just a few with the steak, more generous as an ordered side dish. Tried a couple sushi rolls. Well made and fresh. One was topped with a bit of meyer lemon, giving it an unusual flavor. Don't recall the name of either, but did leave the impression that their sushi is a good appetizer or light meal. Tried an unusual request - could I get the margherita flatbread with spicy pepperoni they featured on another flatbread added. The chef clearly dislikes substitutions, as they came back with ok, but at a silly markup. So, if you don't want to piss off the chef who's making your meal, avoid substitutions. Although, so be fair, the traditional marguerita as per the menu, without any adds or changes, was still a quite nice dinner with a salad. Staff training clearly going on both visits; one visit the wait person admitted it was their first day. Service was still good; though with both visits quiet and not busy, there were still long waits between starters and main. I expect we'll be regulars, as we're often in the neighborhood, and would not be at all surprised to update Drift to a 5 star dinner after exploring the menu further. read more
