The place as a whole is not so bad. The food is good. And the quality of meat okay. The service on the other hand is something that needs work. The main issue is the butcher counter. I understand they have meat already seasoned but everytime I ask for more seasoning on the already seasoned meat they make it a big issue. Every butcher clerk I ask have to go around telling nearly every employee in the whole store "this guy wants more salt on his meat" and all of them turn around and add just a pinch more like I wouldn't notice since their backs are turned to me I drop hundreds of dollars on their meat every other week you'd think they respect me enough to just have solid customer service. read more

For $12 bucks, I got a MASSIVE burrito here. The carnitas in my burrito was amazing and so amazing. Burrito had beans, rice, onions and cilantro in addition. The red sauce is a great compliment to this burrito however I must warn you, it is packed with some good heat. You must try this if your a fan of carnitas. Located inside the meat market you will find their resteraunt tucked away to the side. Here you will find authentic Mexican food. Prices are great, menu is great, what's not to like. Needed a quick bite for lunch before we reached our main destination of Bill Ray Tile next door. In addition to their primary business as a carniceria, they offer a variety of standard Mexican foods. We both had the sopes platter which came with 2 sopes of your choice, rice and beans. I ordered a pollo and pastor, but they gave me carne asada instead of pastor. It was tasty so I didn't complain. Menudo is alright, but maybe I tried the carnitas on a wrong day, because they were dry. Even if there were a possibility that they were good, the tortilla will mess it up. 9:51am on a Monday morning 6/9/2025. Went to the restaurant area located towards the back of the store. I wanted some carnitas for the family. I asked the girl at the counter how much the pound of carnitas was. She said $14 I asked for two pounds then I seen the sign on the side of the register for. 2 pounds plus beans and all the sides plus Tortillas for $31, which was a better deal. I asked her to give me the Deal instead. I was given a yellow receipt and went to pay. When I paid another girl at the registry she rang me up to $40.04 cents. I didn't think about right then and there but as I waited for my food to be ready. I remembered she did not give me a receipt for my purchase. I looked at the sign again and from $31 to $40 was sure a bit off of the original posted "Deal Price". I gave her the benefit of the doubt and asked her if there something extra added on accident. She stated the $31 deal was only on Wednesdays, and that normal price is $37. To which I replied that is not what the sign says. It doesn't say anything about a certain day. She said she would honor the price and she refunded me $5.42. Felt like I was being overcharged on purpose because of the simple fact the first time was not given a receipt... Overall it was a off interaction but I would definitely give them another shot. The carnitas were good and seemed and tastes fresh. The only thing was the cuero was a bit hard. One of the best Carnitas burritos I've had in town. The carnitas are cooked just right and seasoned perfectly. The rice and beans are flavorful and the salsa is delicious. Located inside the Carniceria its not very big inside but there is seating for a good size family depending on what time you get there. The meat they sell there is also pretty good I bought some marinated chicken, desmillo to grill and some chuletas de puerco adobadas that looked delicious. They have menudo on saturdays and sundays as well as birria on the menu. It's pretty much a one stop place you can get anything from simple groceries to beer to meat all in one spot it's pretty convenient. read more

Do NOT go early in the morning because you will be getting their reheated leftovers! And they are not good. We purchased about 1.5lbs of carnitas and literally received oil soaked scraps! The worst part is that the majority of clients that go in the a.m. are usually farm workers. This, to me, is unacceptable. We did go back and the manager confirmed that it was the leftovers and tried to rectify the problem. My issue is why sell it in the first place and at the same price? One of the best tasting Carne Asada in Bakersfield, I loved the clean greaseless meat and great salsas. I drove eleven miles out of my way to try them. I literally go here every Tuesday for 99 cent tacos. The staff is super friendly, the prices are really low, and the food is exceptionally good! I highly recommend their carnitas tacos (They're not shy with the meat). If you enjoy spicy, get the red salsa. If you like it a little more mild, try the green salsa. Just stopped here along our drive home- it's right off 58 so super convenient. They have a bathroom and outdoor tables to eat, so yes it's a grocery store but it's got outdoor seating so you don't have to eat in the car. Ordered burritos which were fantastic. This is our local carniceria and taco spot. Food is good, I really like the posole and my kids love the quesadillas. Wish I had pictures to show but it never lasts long before we're done eating all of it. We're here about 2-3 times a month. Always bring it home unless you like eating in the middle of a store. Came in today for a quick lunch, and turns out that's exactly what it was! I was greeted at the door by a couple that appeared to be the owners. I always like getting an enthusiastic "buenas tardes" when I walk into a place is a nice touch. I walked over to the kitchen to order something that sounded good, and since the sign outside read "El Rey de carnitas" (The king of carnitas), I had to get a carnitas burrito. I asked for no onions and cilantro, the guy taking my order asked if I would like salsa added to the burrito (yes!), and added lettuce, tomatoes and queso fresco at no extra cost. It. Was. AWESOME! I was a bit disappointed in the Tortillas, but that was my only complaint. And did I mention that the burrito only took 5 minutes to order and have in my hand? All around the place looks great and features a small produce section, tons of refreshments, as well as a great selection of meats in their butcher block.
