Sopes platter, pollo and carne asada with rice and beans
Janet S.

Needed a quick bite for lunch before we reached our main destination of Bill Ray Tile next door. In addition to their primary business as a carniceria, they offer a variety of standard Mexican foods. We both had the sopes platter which came with 2 sopes of your choice, rice and beans. I ordered a pollo and pastor, but they gave me carne asada instead of pastor. It was tasty so I didn't complain. Small dining area in the market with about 6 tables. Good stop for a quick bite

I just moved to Bakersfield from LA and was looking for a good Mexican food spot (especially carnitas) came with my bro and we saw a big line so we said it must be good. As we were waiting in line, we noticed people sitting down enjoying menudo. So we got some carnitas and menudo to go. Let me tell you the food here is good. Like really good, one of the best menudos and carnitas I have had outside of being in actual Mexico. Will definitely be coming again and again.

9:51am on a Monday morning 6/9/2025. Went to the restaurant area located towards the back of the store. I wanted some carnitas for the family. I asked the girl at the counter how much the pound of carnitas was. She said $14 I asked for two pounds then I seen the sign on the side of the register for. 2 pounds plus beans and all the sides plus Tortillas for $31, which was a better deal. I asked her to give me the Deal instead. I was given a yellow receipt and went to pay. When I paid another girl at the registry she rang me up to $40.04 cents. I didn't think about right then and there but as I waited for my food to be ready. I remembered she did not give me a receipt for my purchase. I looked at the sign again and from $31 to $40 was sure a bit off of the original posted "Deal Price". I gave her the benefit of the doubt and asked her if there something extra added on accident. She stated the $31 deal was only on Wednesdays, and that normal price is $37. To which I replied that is not what the sign says. It doesn't say anything about a certain day. She said she would honor the price and she refunded me $5.42. Felt like I was being overcharged on purpose because of the simple fact the first time was not given a receipt... Overall it was a off interaction but I would definitely give them another shot. The carnitas were good and seemed and tastes fresh. The only thing was the cuero was a bit hard. It needed to be left a bit longer. Store was clean and Organized, Carnitas were also 4/5 stars

We stopped for chicharrón and it was excellent! We also ordered a small side of freshly made guacamole. Service was fast. The music playing was typical Mexican mariachi music, I wanted to crack open a beer and sing along!

One of the best Carnitas burritos I've had in town. The carnitas are cooked just right and seasoned perfectly. The rice and beans are flavorful and the salsa is delicious. Located inside the Carniceria its not very big inside but there is seating for a good size family depending on what time you get there. The meat they sell there is also pretty good I bought some marinated chicken, desmillo to grill and some chuletas de puerco adobadas that looked delicious. They have menudo on saturdays and sundays as well as birria on the menu. It's pretty much a one stop place you can get anything from simple groceries to beer to meat all in one spot it's pretty convenient.

do NOT RECOMMEND

0!!!! If possible but yelps wants me to click 1 star at least DO NOT RECOMMEND MENUDO HERE! The first time I came to have a good time eating breakfast and it was not worth it. Seen 2 plates fully served and i think they were not touched. The plate with the limes and onion was not even touched. I added so much lime and salt to my plate and it did not taste any better. Bad cook!!!! I wish I would've seen a comment like this to save $100 on this HORRIBLE breakfast and drinks. Save your money, eat breakfast at McDonald's or cook at home

Best burritos in town for sure! Brought the team in and they loved it, definitely returning

Do NOT go early in the morning because you will be getting their reheated leftovers! And they are not good. We purchased about 1.5lbs of carnitas and literally received oil soaked scraps! The worst part is that the majority of clients that go in the a.m. are usually farm workers. This, to me, is unacceptable. We did go back and the manager confirmed that it was the leftovers and tried to rectify the problem. My issue is why sell it in the first place and at the same price? I'm just disappointed because this isn't the first time they've done this and I keep going back because they are usually good but this is definitely my last time going there.

Usually come here before work to order a breakfast burrito. This is the second time they gave me a carnitas burrito instead of a breakfast burrito.

I literally go here every Tuesday for 99 cent tacos. The staff is super friendly, the prices are really low, and the food is exceptionally good! I highly recommend their carnitas tacos (They're not shy with the meat). If you enjoy spicy, get the red salsa. If you like it a little more mild, try the green salsa. Either way, you won't be disappointed! Also, if you get a chance, try their homemade chips and salsa.

One of the best tasting Carne Asada in Bakersfield, I loved the clean greaseless meat and great salsas. I drove eleven miles out of my way to try them. The size was a little smaller than I was expecting for a $12 burrito(added a touch of guacamole). Regular runs about $10(Including tax) so hit them on $6 Monday! Excellent burritos and nice people as well.

First off it was a steady flow of customers for a Wednesday evening. Many birthdays! We were sat immediately and waiter came to take our drink order. I had a mango chamoy margarita, while my husband got a roasted chili cucumber margarita on the rocks. His drink was SPICY! I ordered the shrimp fajitas and my husband ordered the chicken and steak molcajete. Our food was brought out super fast! The portions - humongous! But the food is so good! My husband is super picky when it comes to Mexican food, and he said this molcajete is his favorite so far compared to other Mexican restaurants we've been to. The bright colorful colors and great music selection really make it joyous and fun dining experiences. Highly recommend.

The server was patient and we tried to decide what we walked to drink and eat. The restaurant had a quiet atmosphere even though they are located at the Valley Plaza and it was the beginning of spring break. We both ordered the same drinks and food. Both drinks and entree (it was actually a shareable plate) tasted great but the salsa that came with the chips was a bit ordinary with no spice. I couldn't really taste the difference between the Paloma and the margarita ‍. The place is decorated really nice but what they should've focused on was making agood food. I'm so glad I only ordered appetizers because had I ordered food I would've wasted so much money. Birria tacos simply taste like red beef tacos, no real authentic flavor. Shrimp skewers I was told was okay but even that had more veggies than actual shrimps. The rice wasn't cooked all the way. The presentation on nachos was excellent but the nachos were gross. No flavor in guacamole. Beans were plain beans bland af. The chicken wasn't seasoned and had an awful charbroiled taste, just awful! The salsa weren't spicy or tasty. I can only recommend this place for a good happy hour spot because prices are outrageous for drinks. Once again they should've focused on the food than the decor.

The place is pretty easy to find on the corner of 18th & R. There isn't a lot of seating for more than parties of 4. We were a party of 6 and we all smooshed into a horseshoe booth inside. There are only 2 of these booths available and they indicated they are not able to place additional seating at the booths. I imagine you might be able to put tables together outside for a larger party. We were greeted warmly, and while I felt overwhelmed by the amazing choices, the gal taking our order put me at ease by walking me through the menu board. We got amazing carnitas quesadillas and tacos and another dish that came on top of a mound of delicious fries. It's the kind of place where you order, then sit down and they bring you the food. We were well taken care of. Our drinks were refilled and they brought us 'to go' boxes. Their portions are generous and just tasty. And the iced tea was perfect! We ordered a full order of chips and salsa. That is extra. It was $6 for a full order ($5 for half) and these chips were well worth the cost. We will be back!

Before my guest even arrived, I was told the kitchen was closing in 10 minutes, which made it impossible to plan or order properly for both of us. About 30 minutes after being seated, the waitress asked to close out my tab and mentioned they were closing an hour and a half early, something that should have been communicated when I walked in so I could have chosen to go elsewhere. To make things worse, about 10 minutes before closing, they turned the lights all the way up and shut the music off, which made it very clear we were being pushed out. No one came by to offer boxes for our food (I had more than half my meal left), and my guest didn't even get to finish her drink. We were essentially rushed out before the already early closing time, with no proper send-off. Overall, the experience felt very unprofessional and uncomfortable. The food was absolutely delicious, which is why I'm leaving this review, but unfortunately the service missed the mark during our most recent visit. We ordered our steak medium rare, but it came out well done. When our server took our order, our appetizers arrived quickly and then our entrees followed, but we had to remind him about the Starry soda that was ordered and never brought out initially. The biggest issue occurred when the Aguachile Ribeye was brought to our table. One of the plates was broken, causing food and sauce to spill all over me and the seat. While the server acknowledged something happened, there wasn't much concern shown about the spill on my shorts, and no replacement plate was offered. A simple apology and a little more attention to the situation would have gone a long way. Later, when we asked for a box for the leftover steak, it took quite a while and I ended up having to remind our server again. Overall, the food was fantastic and is the reason I continue to come back. The kitchen clearly knows what they're doing. However, the service could use some improvement, especially when it comes to attention to detail and handling issues when they arise.
