I was first introduced to Rocy's in Shafter about 2006 by a co-worker. It was in the old 5 points location at that time. I was impressed by the asada tacos and even more impressed with the price. After that first visit I would stop whenever I was in the Shafter area. Then they moved to the new location and I wasn't around much anymore. Now, my wife who is from Shafter, and I are eating at Rocy's again. The asada tacos with rice and beans is our favorite with good size portions. We can barely eat it all.! The guacamole is put on the tacos first before the meat and is the best we've ever had anywhere. We always call our order in and it's ready to go by the time we get there. It's not a flashy place but flashy doesn't mean good! We try to place an order at least once a week because they are friendly, consistent good food and convenient. Just remember, CASH ONLY. Friends and I have been making the driving trip down here for years! For a while. this was our go to spot for Mexican food if we didn't want to drive to the East side. I can't even remember the day we found this place, probably lunch after the DMV. It's honestly a tradition for us now to come down here whenever someone is visiting. We were staying in Willowbutton on July 4th on our way back to AZ. Nothing but fast food was open and we were hoping to try something local. Searched local and found Rocy's in the nearby town of Shafter and both my husband and daughter and I felt it was the best local Mexican we've had. And we live near Phoenix. Take the drive out to the country town. It's worth it. I had Carne Asada Quesadilla, my hubs had the Carnitas plate, and my daughter had asada tacos. The guacamole was light and fresh, the meat perfectly seasoned and the right amount of char. The refried beans... lovely. Huge portions and the only drawbacks are that they are cash only and they don't serve alcohol. But go of your way and eat here. Sooo gooood! read more

It's my favorite in Shafter, the guacamole is included in every order. It's a little hidden but it's worth looking for.

I can only speak about their tacos because I happened to stop by here to grab two on a whim. Their cabeza and lengua were really really good. They have two sizes of taco you can choose from: a small (1.69) or large (2.69) and I opted for the small since it's the usual size that come from taco trucks. This place put the guac, salsa and onions first on the warm tortilla, then piles on the meat- and trust me when I say that it's a good portion for your buck. You also get to decide from green and red sauce to put on top and then just squeeze the lemon that it comes with on your tacos and BAM you're set. The two tacos I ordered filled me up, but it was also early in the day so I didn't have much appetite. This place is one of the better ones in the area since there's not much selection to choose from, but it is a cash only joint so make sure you have that handy. read more

Hello Shafter, how have we not talked about Rocys!? The tacos are delicious! Tried the pastor, cabeza, carnitas, and lengua. They use guacamole in their tacos. Which is a great touch. Of the four different meats we tried, the lengua was by far my favorite, not knocking on the others though, they were all very good. The lengua was just cooked perfectly. Also ordered a pastor burrito, it was a hefty thing. Would definitely recommend it. We came in when the store was empty. The staff was super friendly. The cashier extremely helpful in explaining each type of meat to my friend. The only down side is, it is a *CASH ONLY* establishment. If you don't have cash, you'll have to go next door. CASH ONLY! That aside, this little hole in the wall is where it's at! Yummy tacos with filling meats. Ordered my usual taco trio of chicken, carnitas, and al pastor. The chicken taco came with shredded cheddar cheese on top, which was a little unexpected but still pretty good. The carnitas were crispy on the exterior and moist and flavorful on the interior; just the way good carnitas should be! The al pastor was decent, a little sweet and definitely juicy with overall great flavor. They give you two bottles of salsa: green and red. They pack a nice little kick, which accented the food perfectly. Definitely try the Pina! Way better than Huichos in that it's slightly sweet, a little tart, and not watered down. Prices are a bit higher than your standard taco truck, but that's ok since Shafter doesn't seem to have a lot of options anyways. Interior is definitely dated; seats tipped, carpet stained. What was a little off putting was the intense smell of Lavender Fabuloso. Not something I want with my tacos. read more

I am from out of town. Pa to be exact. I married a Mexican and fell in love with the Mexican culture and the food. This place represents that to the fullest. The tacos are incredible (I've tried every one), my wife loved the nachos as well and the quesadillas are something special. I highly recommend this place. Oh my goodness. I love this place. Not only is the service great and the food good, but they also have a really good veggie burrito. It's become a bit of a challenge to find veggie options to eat at. Meat seems to be pretty popular and vegetarian restaurants are just not as plentiful as in Los Angeles. Sure, I can always have a salad, but sometimes I want more. **Warning cash only** The best Mexican food in Shafter so far in my opinion. We came across this place on accident just driving down the street one day looking for something else. My wife ordered the shredded tacos with rice and beans plate while I chose the chili verde plate. We also got an order of guacamole with chips and 2 sodas, the price came out to around $24. The guacamole was fresh and I liked they didn't load red onions into it like a lot of places do. The one major thing I did not like about this place was that the menu has no prices, you order and find out the price after, they also accept only cash so come prepared, we drove to the gas station to use an ATM. Not my favorite Mexican restaurant by far but has at least made my list for a round 2. read more

Rocy's never disappoints. Carne asada is amazing, hands down among the best I've ever had. Seasoned perfectly, cooked when you order. Everything is fresh. Guacamole is perfect. The large tacos come on yellow corn tortillas, something I don't see too often. I've also tried the torta which was also great. You might look at this place and think it's kind of a dump... you're right the appearance isn't the best, but the food is amazing and totally worth the slightly higher prices than similar places.
