Only been there for the carne asada and whilst the flavor was on point, the meat was extremely fatty. Piss poor job on trimming. There were gobs of fat that doesn't render and isn't edible, blobs that should be taken off before sale. So, alas, another non west valley carne fail. read more

As a So Cal transplant aching for the goods to create my favorite Mexican dishes, I found this little gem about 20 years ago and have been a loyal shopper since. Great, fresh tortillas, an amazing butcher case. They've got lots of cuts and organ meats not available in regular grocery stores and you can't go wrong with their "aranchera" cut of skirt steak for grilling carne asada at home (they offer a free pre-prepared house marinade for your carne asada - just ask for the meat "prepareda"), a small but good assortment of inexpensive fresh produce, fresh Mexican cheeses cut to order (butcher case) and their house made salsas and guac are exceptional (also in the butcher case). You can also grab fresh pan dulce and typical Mexican sweets if your sweet tooth is getting you. The staff is fully bilingual but they are also very kind and patient if you want to try out your rusty Spanish ;) read more

We decided to try another Mexican market that was a little closer to us. For being a smaller market it has a pretty good size meat Dept. We got some carne asada meat. Which turned out to be very tender and made delicious tacos. I also picked out some Mexican jelly filled pastry rolls sliced that were so soft and better than I imagined. Definitely need to try more of their pastries next time. The market is small and basic. No frills, but everyone was friendly and helpful. I LOVE this place, found it about 9 years ago when I first moved here. I'm almost afraid to tell you how good the food is. The carne asada is the best I've ever had! I cook it for everyone that comes to visit and everyone loves it and raves about it! I just tried the pollo asada with my parents recently and of course it was so delicious and flavorful! I stopped by yesterday and grabbed some carnitas to try, no doubt it'll be bomb! I also really love their salsa verde, prepared rice and tortilla chips made in house. Cool little spot that is a market and butcher but also sells tacos and Mexican pastries! Lots of great ingredients sold here as well. If you like your salsa HOT and authentic, they have a great variety. All fresh made and tasty! They are seriously so good albeit very spicy, so they are not for the faint of heart or those with a weak stomach. I love coming here for the fresh tortillas. They have fresh made corn tortillas that I have bought on more than one occasion while they were still warm. The flour tortillas are fantastic too. They are thin and a little translucent. You can literally warm them up and eat them with just butter. So. Darn.Good! They also sell tacos or cooked meat for tacos by the pound. I like the carnitas and chicharrones. I believe you can get a platter for 5.99 that has a few tacos. Ahhhhh before I forget, they also have Mexican doughnuts and some pastries. Reminded us our time in Chetumal. Having a little bit of Spanish will really help, but the staff is extremely friendly and patient. They'll help you out and you'll leave with a cart-full of goodies. Carneceria El Rancho is a great place to get ingredients for tacos. They sell fresh veggies and warm corn tortillas. We highly recommend their Chorizo, spicy pork sausage. Bake it in the oven (I bake it at 350 for 30mins to cut down on the grease and to help keep it solid in its natural casing), cut it up like Italian sausage, and saute it with some lime, onions, and peppers for out of this country (world) taco stuffing. Also, we picked up some some freshly cooked Carnitas, shoulder of pork, which I prepared similarly to the Chorizo a day later. All of their meats are sold at great prices. Other foods we highly recommend are their containers of Gaucamole, Salsa Frita (absolutely amazing, make sure to get some), and Pico de Gallo. Unfortunately, they don't sell fresh tortilla chips, but they do sell huge slabs of fried Chicharrón. Smother it with guac and salsa and you'll never know the difference (In fact, all the restaurants in Southern Mexico serve pork rind chips instead of corn ones. the store closes at 8 and it's been a couple of times that I go in to get carne asada (one time it was at 5pm and the other time was at 6). I try to order carne asada and have them cook it there but to my surprise they had already turned off the flat top 3 hours before closing which I find I little stupid to be honest. Carne asada in a marinaded bag, throw it on the grill and cut it into small pieces. Add it to tortillas with some salsa and guacamole that they also sell. BAM! Amazing meat quality, seasoning is great. My first time here, I was looking for a Carniceria since I just moved from SoCal.

This a small but convenient Mexican grocery store where you can find bakery, made on the site, groceries, and Mexican sweets, as well as chicken and beef, different cuts and styles of seasoning. They advertise to sell seafood as well, but they just had shrimps and frozen tilapia, not what I expected when someone else mentioned on their review "fresh" The employees are really nice and helpful, the place looks outdated and a little bit dark inside, there's not so many lights. They also sell tortillas, however they are not "warm" I have been in other stores like this and considering they don't make the tortillas on the place, they still keep them on a cooler to keep them warm for costumers, not on this place unfortunately, they also sell flour tortillas from Sonora, and they have many varieties. You can get tacos too! Be warned the chicharrón tacos are very spicy! While waiting for my tacos, I found the mixer for the bread batter was on the floor, still dirty (I Hope) they were done and not planning to use it again once it was sitting on the floor. I bought a cold syrup for my kids and it was expired, my bad for not checking while I was at the cashier, those products needs to be asked to cashier to be handled. The carne asada is the best I've ever had from any carniceria. We drive from Gilbert just to get the carne asada for cook outs. They also have some delicious carnitas in the hot foods. They make tacos with the meat if you request. Best breads for a pretty good price as well. Only down side is a certain worker is not so nice but everyone else is awesome. This is yet another reason why Yelp is rad. I was looking for a locally owned place to pick up some carne asada to throw on the grill. Yelp pointed me in the direction of Carneceria El Rancho, which is Spanish for "You can buy lots of cool shit here". The store is super fun, and has tons of cool specialty items that you can use to prepare a great Mexican meal. The butcher's corner is great and they have tons of fresh meat, at great prices. I was prepared to use my epic Spanish skills, but the man working there was sadly deprived of that little treat, as his English was perfect. Personally I am a fan of the "When in Rome" philosophy, so I think it's moronic for someone to go to a specialty Mexican food store and be uncomfortable with the native language to that region- but hey- that's just me. Moving on, I bought carne asada, and some pollo- and you can decide if you want the marinade poured into the bag of carne, I recommend it, and there is no extra charge. Keep in mind you don't want to have it marinading for longer than eight hours, unless you like bubble gum burritos. The place also has Mexican coke (think beverage, not Scarface) and tons of salsas, tortillas, treats, etc. Essentially- they have it all. The cashier was adorable and (rightly) proud of the store and all the cool stuff they have. I've been back three times since, and each time have received great service and merchandise. Thanks to Anthony's review, I was able to cook a halfway decent meal for my Mexican step-mommy. I would not have attempted such a feat had it not been she was just returning from New York, and I assumed that had not been on their menu the last two weeks. I could handle the enchiladas pretty well (and got excellent reviews BTW), but I didn't want to mess with the carne asada. I wished I had more time to peruse the shelves, but I was in a hurry. The guys at the meat counter didn't seem to speak English, but for all I knew, they spoke perfect English and were enjoying my feeble attempts to order in Spanish. I managed to get out "dos libras", but then he rattled a question off in Spanish. Of that, I thought I heard "preparada" and responded "si," praying he was asking if I wanted the meat in the marinade and not if I needed hemorrhoid medication. The meat was a little fatty, but I'm one of those people that thinks every butcher should trim to my standards, which are quite ridiculous. But their marinade is fantastic! I also picked up some flour tortillas. Okay, better than typical store brands. I would recommend heating those on the grill, too. Two pounds of meat and tortillas for under $20. Yay! read more

I haven't been able to find good carne asada in the valley until my friend recommended this place. Order the Arranchera Preparada (I always order five pounds minimum, which is cinco libres in Spanish). You better know Spanish because this is as authentic as it gets!
