This place was very slow with service and I ordered birria tacos and got something completely different. Never coming here again.

Do you like carnitas? What about chicharron? Then you need to stop by here if you are in the area. Whenever my parents would visit my Aunt in Planada they would bring back these delicious carnitas. I finally had the opportunity to eat here, and I was not disappointed. I had carnitas tacos which were loaded with meat. The service is quick, and the carnitas beyond exceptional. Their chicharrones are also great, but sell out quickly. Closed on Mondays, bathroom onsite, plenty of parking in the back. read more

We still stop here at least a couple of times a year and it has been consistently very good. I don't know if I am hungrier on the way to the Sierra's or they have gotten even better, but I am going to say even better over the last few years. We really look forward to stopping in and getting our carne asada burritos that are made and toasted to perfection. The people that run the place are very nice as well. They had just fried up a huge batch of chicharon and asked about it (I had never seen that much, and it's made right there). The woman working there (owner?) broke off a huge hunk and gave it to me too try. I usually never eat chicharon but this stuff was amazing! Do yourself a favor and don't pass this by on your way to the mountains or wherever you are going. read more

Service is perfectly bilingual. I have only tried two things. The carne asada quesadilla and a lengua burrito. I love both. If I lived closer I might get heavier because of their food. If you are just passing through, you might not give it a second thought. But if you like Mexican food like I do, it is well worth the stop. Inside they have a variety of hot sauces lightly mild to habanero hot, lemon salt , flavored oregano shakers, reach in beer and soda coolers. The food is good and so is the service. Again , ... This place is a definite whole in the world. Blink and you might miss it and boy will you be sorry. We were cranky on a road trip to Yosemite and seeking out food close by. Thankfully for our bellies we found this GEM! We had 4 tacos (2 asada, 2 carnitas), a quesadilla (half asada/carnitas). Let me tell you that the quesadilla was dripping in juicyness with the salsa verde sauce mixed with the cheese. It was delectable! The food was soo good we took 1/2 pound of carnitas to go! Highly recommend the carnitas, not so much the asada if you make it by. Oh this place doesn't break the bank, everything we ordered ended up being $20! read more

We found this place on our way through town on a trip to Yosemite. The food was so good we stopped on the way to our trip AND on the way back! It's dicey to try a new Mexican place on your way to a anniversary trip, but we decided to throw caution to the winds (lame pun intended)... The only reason they didn't get 5 stars is because they screwed up my order on the way to the trip, but the screw up was bomb diggity anyway, so I couldn't be too mad. On the way back they got my order right and the food was great a second time! If you are passing through Planada, stop here and grab some tacos, burgers, or whatever you heart desires from this great little place, but be aware that both times we were there, they were packed with locals. read more

I stopped by on a Sunday about 3:15 and turned out the kitchen was closed, BUT they said they had carnitas with tortillas and salsa. I said, sure. Good lord: I think this was the best carnitas I've had in my life. And $8 for what I could make maybe 10 tacos with. All this with a salsa verde that was maybe also the best I've had in my life. Five stars for super cheap, super tasty little tacos full of carefully crafted carnitas. We ordered six tacos, two Jarritos sodas, and a side of beans and paid $14. I heard this place was pretty good but I tried the carne asada fries but it tasted like they just dumped the fries in there without straining the oil. On top of that it was mostly just lettuce. It didn't taste good at all and I wasn't able to finish it due to the bad taste. read more

One of the hidden gems of Planada. Quality Mexican food for a great price. Very generous portions. They are known for their carnitas -- well seasoned and very tender. Had Chicken Huaraches and they were good. They were more like a quesadilla because I was expecting them to be like the ones you get in Mexico, in a rectangular shape, like an open face sandwich or a tostada. Anyways, lots of gooey cheese and the food was hot and fresh. Good selection of beer and soft drinks. The employees were very friendly. Atmosphere is very casual. :) If you like Mexican food, this is a great place to stop coming back from Yosemite or other hikes in the area. read more
