He asked me what I wanted. I asked for 2 carnitas tacos. He pop pulled out four dry and stale looking tortillas and reheated them in the grill.. just then another coworker walked by and dipped his hands in the caldo de res ... and pulled a piece of meat out and right into his mouth. I was floored. I should've walked out but I didnt. Instead I watched the other guy pour some bits of meat on the tortilla... while the guy that just stuck his hands in the caldo... grabbed my cash. I've been going to the Carnitas Michoacán on Broadway in Lincoln Heights for decades but this spot has become my favorite of the chain. The carnitas here seem juicier and more tender. I like them in burritos but even better is to have the carnitas in the nachos or papas fritas (french fries) with lots of nacho cheese and pickled jalapeños/carrots/onions. A bonus at this location are the trays of fantastic chicharrones that they sell by the pound. The pork rind is fried to a nice crunchy golden hue and there's usually a tasty chunk of pork meat still attached to the rind. A bag of chicharrones and some salsa or Tapatio makes for a great snack. read more

Hello Yelp, I am happy to review this fantastic neighborhood locale that serves traditional Hispanic comfort cuisine in LA. The food here is rustic, family and community oriented with traditional Mexican techniques and styles. They have a cooking line where dishes such as Chile relleno, burritos - including mojado style, tacos, enchiladas, etc. are cooked to order and some ready to eat items such as roasted chicken on the bone, carne asada, and claro chicharrones! The cuisine is very homestyle and traditional family kitchen cooking. For example, I am pretty sure the red sauce on the wet burrito is made with the juices/oil the selected meat is cooked in. Everything is served with beans and rice too. Great customer service, walk in and you get a large "Hola Primo", and a smile. Prices are low and the portions large. I give 4 stars instead of 5 because the store could use some upkeep and maintained. The decor is bland. The food is great, people are friendly and price is perfect. Thank you for your time. I wanted to give this place four stars but... there was false advertising in the menu above the cash register. We ordered food and the receipt was more than what we totaled from the prices. Turns out they didn't change the menu prices or even said anything about it. False advertising. Minus one star. Other than that, this place was cool. Came here after a day of drinking. Was hungry so we came here so we could also go to the market next door. This reminds me of classic inner-city LA. Ladies making fresh pupusas, meats, people coming in and out with their daily thing and traffic. It was a pain in the ass to park in the little parking lot. I ordered the carnitas burrito. It was damn good. Especially with the salsa. It had good chunks of carnitas with rice and some beans. It was very filling. These are by far some of THE BEST TACOS I've ever had. I grew up in the area and as a teenager went there many times, I recently went back to see if it was still open and to my surprise it was. The pastor tacos and carne asada tacos are some of the best I've ever had, I have friends that are willing to drive about an hour just for some of these tacos. read more

I'm a fan of their carnitas ($8 a pound). Not the best stuff in the world but it definitely hits the spot. Especially with some tortilla chips from Nuños Market next door. I'd definitely like to give their chicharron and tacos a try. As I mentioned in another review parking is awful, be prepared to wait, potentially fear the structural integrity of your car being compromised, or almost be run over. read more

Have yet to have a bad item here. Found this place by accident exploring LA one day. Great food at great prices. Menudo and Pozole were well seasoned and full of flavour. When I was a kid this was one of the best places ..the cheese burger and fries had that "Troca" feel..the Nachos with melted cheese, beans and carne asada .. the Burritos ..tacos..wow.. this place was great..then I grew up and saw that things weren't the way they seemed. I see the same cook from when I was a kid..the items are stacked the same..the decor of the dining place is obviously the same..bathrooms are still dirty ..prices obviously went up but they're still good..so what gives? Then I realized the food quality. Obviously when you're a kid everything is delicious but fast forward ..the meats are the cheapest quality .. the sides are old and not prepped on the same day..the bread are old..the cheese is recycled ..and it's TRUE, flies just bug the hell out of you if you dine In..so what happened? Customer Service is great..super super cool and down to earth ..parking is Hell! Ofcourse depends what time of day you go.. as much as I want to give it 2 stars I wont ..I'll give 3 only because I know its probably carelessness and they could shape up over night ..I bet if Godon Ramsey showed up..in 24 hours that place would be where it should be and even better. read more

I used to work downtown near this place about 16 years ago, and would always eat here. Their carnitas burritos are the BEST! And the sauce is to die for! I've went and just purchased the sauce before. Amazing! I work on the West side of town now, but every once in a while I'll still take the 45 minute drive from my house to go here. Weak compare to the one off Broadway in Lincoln heights. The tripas and bunche was soggy and lost all the chewy texture I hold to love. The cabeza was cold, and pastor has great flavor but no texture. My conclusion why the food tasted like s*** was I was one of the first few people that walked in as it opened. But still, as a restaurant u must serve our best to our customers or else they aren't going to come back. As for me. I will never come back. Broadway and Ave 19 for me. read more
