They say at 3, the kitchen closes and no orders can be taken and only drive thru is available. If you don't have a car, they discriminate against that and say they can't take your order because "it's too dangerous". Even when you arrive at the drive thru window on foot and wait through the whole drive through line. Absolutely idiotic and disgusting how corporate put that rule and the guys getting paid minimum wage go through it. My money is green and valid. Came in on December 5th after attending a concert, and honestly the drive through the streets getting here was a bit scary. Maybe it was the time or the fact that a lane in the street seemed to be closed, but there was a long stretch of road leading us here that just seemed so dark and a bit sketchy. Once we got to the intersection, we could see the bright building on the corner with a drive thru and a well-lit parking lot. My friend and I were thirsty and craving something sweet, so we only stopped to order aguas frescas and a flan to share. It was SUPER bright inside as well and they had TVs playing music videos and decent sounding speakers through the restaurant. I was very impressed with how bright and clean it was inside, also very modern with the tablets available to place your order in addition to the lady at the register. I just recently discovered this place. It is super convenient because it has a drive-through. It is also nice if you go inside. I have ate there twice now. They have many options on the menu and the prices are great. They have many sides to choose from and salsas. The line moves pretty quickly if you go through the drive-through. Best tacos in town! Food is always consistent in flavor and serving size. I don't think I've ever been skimped on meat in any of my many visits... The service is always fast, it's good for both when ur in a rush or if u feel like sitting down to eat and enjoy their salsa bar and unlimited drink refills.... They recently changed to music videos and music on their screens, makes the meal much more enjoyable. My usual order is an asada burrito with cheese and crunchy tortilla... but lately, I've been getting a Mulita de asada and splitting it into 2 cheesy tacos... so good... and the self serve beans make any snack into a full meal... While the food was appropriately priced for the quality I received, my gripe is with their business practices. The amount of waste this restaurant generates is egregious. I ordered 6 tacos and got 6 lemons individually sealed in plastic bags, enough plastic silverware to cater a party, individually wrapped picked jalapeños and sealed cilantro + onion, the sauces ....sealed in more plastic. I don't know how they can even operate profitably with so much going into plastic packaging. The amount of labor alone it would take to individually seal every single lemon slice is crazy... why? If someone orders their tacos with cilantro and onion, just put it on the damn taco...if they want a lemon put it on the side - no need to seal EVERYTHING separately in plastic. I'm an average American, my environmental impact is massive - I'm aware. But ordering from here genuinely upsets me and makes me feel like I'm damaging the environment and my body with plastics ...and for what? some regular LA tacos. Nothing special here, unless you're in a pinch late at night and really want to have some average tacos and fill your trash with plastic, just find somewhere else. The al pastor burrito slaps and is super flavorful, pair it with a hint of lemon and salsa, goooodness! They are reasonably priced and offer taco Tuesdays! Inside is always clean and service fast! Give them a try if you ever pass by one! Pre-covid they offered an amazing salsa bar, where one can get cilantro, onions, pickled jalapeno and carrots, radish and salsas. Wow did this restaurant exceed expectations! We were up in LA visiting the museums and wanted a quick drive through before heading back to Orange County and so I checked Yelp and Tacos Gavilan got great reviews and even with the great reviews it was even better than that! The building is fairly new and extremely clean. The parking lot is huge and very organized for both drive through, eat in and take out/DoorDash/Uber Eats dedicated parking. We got the carne Asada burrito, carne Asada quesadilla, carne Asada & Al pastor mini tacos (just called normal tacos here) and a bean and cheese burrito and all were delicious! 5 stars. The only slight negative is the other reviews are correct that the burritos aren't gigantic like other places they are more on the small side here but that was ok with me so I didn't feel like a beached whale after eating my lunch! I liked how they had salsa and all the accomplishments pre packaged and they even had these snap on plastic covers for the food. You can tell they're experts in take out! We also got the Horchata and Pina agua fresca Fresca that were both outstanding! Next time I'm in the area I'll eat here again for sure! Been coming to this Tacos Gavilan for almost 30 years when they use to make the food in a lunch truck. I've been to so many other Tacos Gavilan cuz they got big. I was get a Super Burrito because they are the only burritos that fill me up. Today at the original location I got a skinny burrito instead of the super burrito I get. I complain to one of the cooks and he said it was because people have complain about there being too much rice. okay I get it. lol. who the hell would want a rice burrito? but why does the burrito need to be shrunk to a small burrito when you paid for the super burrito? The "super" means that they add sour cream & guacamole onto your items which makes everything 10x better. Their meat is tender, juicy, flavorful. I love that they have their own salsa bar. Load up with some mild and spicy sauce and they also let you take scoops of beans with you.
